I have watched chefs on cooking shows use this microplane and thought I would give it a try. I am thrilled. The first time I used it to zest a lemon, it took the zest and left the pith behind. I plan on using this item for many, many things and I know it will work just fine.

Great Zesting
This Zester works fantastic! It gives zest you can see, smell and taste much better than other zesters I have used.

A useful tool, just not necessarily for zesting
This is a nice little tool, as far as making strips of citrus zest; BUT there are a lot of recipes that call for a finer zest, which is hard to get out of this zester.I've found that a microplane grater works a lot better at getting a fine zest, and lets you get at LOT more of the zest off the lemon.With the OXO Zester, you only get a few strips at a time, and it gets tricky to go back between the strips to get all the zest off.I gave the OXO three stars because I don't think it's the optimal tool for what its main function is supposed to be.
A very useul tool!
I used this zester for the first time today and was pleased with how it works.It takes little effort to use and works quickly.I noticed that I could use long heavy strokes to produce long thick strands of zest, and short light strokes to make thinner shorter strands.It's nice to be able to control the size of the zest this way.

Very nice peeler and zester.
I bought this about a year ago, even though I already own two other peelers. I've just never been happy with our other peelers though. They were both grocery store bought and they're just too skinny and wobbly. My hands would always ache after a short time. Peeling carrots for juice was basically torture. Well, not anymore! This thing is like the Cadillac of peelers. I can zip through a bag of carrots in no time at all. I even use it for peeling potatoes, which I'd always used a knife before. My mom fell in-love with it too, and I wound up buying the set for her for Christmas. The zester is also very nice. I've become very fond of Kitchen Aid's gadgets. They cost a little more, but I have found them to be rugged plus they feel good in your hands.

This KitchenAid peeler is the BEST one that I have ever used!!I have used several peelers, recently electric ones which had been better than the cheap ones in the past.I happened to find a set like this one on sale, so I thought I would try it.Let's say that I now have two, and will always use it as long as KitchenAid makes it.I haven't used the zester that much, but I got good results with it also.One more thing: anyone who has arthritis in his or her hands like I do, this duo is perfect!

Shreds the competition!
With sharp teeth you will find this tool indispensable for grating hard cheese, chocolate, shallots, garlic, ginger, onion, radishes, horseradish as well as zesting limes, lemons and oranges. I have not noticed any dulling, and I do use it for nutmeg which can dull the blade.You may want to own a separate grater if you grate a lot of whole spices.

No problems with lack of a handle. Never come close to grating knuckles.Stores in a protective hard plastic case to prevent damage in the drawer.Much more versatile than originally planned; use it for lemongrass, ginger and cheese for a VERY fine grate.Zesting is so simple and has been mentioned elsewhere produces very fine pith free zest.Could not recomend this product more!

Wonderful gadget
I love my microplane. I use it to grate citrus peel, chocolate, hard cheeses (note: it yields a very fine grate. If you like a coarser grate, use a traditional grater. The micro plane coarse and extra coarse graters still grate way more finely than a normal grater). Unlike other reviewers, I like the fact that it doesn't have a handle. It gives you more surface area to do your grating and it doesn't feel uncomfortable in the least in my hands. I honestly don't know what they are talking about! I've never came even close to shaving my knuckles. I love the fact that it's dishwasher safe, too. Very convenient. This particular grater is not sharp enough to grate things like ginger and nutmeg, however, so I have a different microplane for that. If it weren't for that, this would be a perfect gadget. ... Most used tool in my kitchen!
I received this w/in ten days of placing order. Best value for the money of anything I've ordered in a long time. Use it every day. It's easy to grip and gets all juice and pulp out in a matter of seconds. Easy clean up, too.

Quick, efficient...low effort!! LOVE IT!
I have had a plastice one with the built in strainer for years...and must admit I hated it, but didn't know why...IT was to smooth and slippery to really grab the flesh. Especially for the produce we get in Alaska, you really have to work for your juice, be from limes, lemons or any other citrus. Things are just not quite as fresh as they are in the states. This reamer rips right through these tough limes and lemons with hardly any effort. WHAT A RELIEF this tool is! I even did my own product test between the old and new with the same batch of limes...I was able to get nearly twice as much juice in less than half the time. Not For The Dishwasher
This juicer has two juicer attachments to juice large fruits, (grapefruits) or small fruits, (lemons and limes).Very easy to use, but not ready for the dishwasher. Very easy to take it apart and hand-wash. The first juicer became warped when we put it in the dishwasher.This purchase was simply a replacement.

Wooden Version is Better
I second what other cooks have stated here. OXO's wooden version of this citrus reamer is much better and three dollars cheaper to boot. The grooves on the wooden reamer are deeper and sharper and "catch" the sides of the fruit better, getting more juice out.

Looks Nice - Doesn't Work
This reamer looks nice and is easy to clean, that's where my good comments end. This tool is too smooth to properly ream citrus. It just spins around with very little juice coming out of the lemon.Best reamer is a plain wood one. The wood has enough texture to properly ream and makes for a good grip. I prefer the wooden lemon reamer
