Editorial Review Bodums Santos coffeemaker evolved from founder Peter Bodums relentless attempts to replicate and improve upon a French vacuum coffeemaker he had acquired in the 1950s. The resulting Santos converted many followers to the vacuum brewing method and this coffeemaker became highly popular in most Scandinavian households through the 70s. This kit looks like a chemistry set when first unpacked and is just as fascinating to watch as an experiment on the Bunsen burner. To start brewing coffee, fill the Santoss bottom heat-resistant glass jug with up to 8 cups of water and set it on either a gas, electric, or methylated spirits stove. While the water heats, secure the filter within the glass funnel, fill the funnel with coffee grounds, and set the funnel over the jug. When the water boils, the excitement really starts. The water rises from the jug up through the funnel and mixes with the ground coffee. Once you remove the jug from the stove, the brewed coffee drains back down into the lower jug for serving, leaving all grounds and sediment behind. This coffeemaker is rated one of the best by PBSs Read more Features Reviews (3)

Editorial Review This coffeemaker is a must-have for people who throw more than their share of dinner parties. The Twin Therm Entertainment Center comes with two stainless-steel carafes, each with a 10-cup capacity, so hosts can brew a pot of regular coffee for guests who prefer caffeine and and prepare a second pot of decaf or hot water for guests who desire an alternative. The AromaControl brews for just one carafe at a time and uses a unique brewing method called the Flavor Release System to produce delicious coffee. This method steeps coffee grounds in hot water for about two minutes before brewing to draw the bitterness out of the coffee and enrich both the aroma and flavor. The AromaControl doesnt have a warming plate for its carafes like many electric coffeemakers, as the double-insulated thermal stainless-steel carafes do a better job at keeping beverages hot for hours and preserving flavor. The carafes plastic screw-top lids provide further heat retention and allow coffee to brew right through the tops to seal in flavor. In addition, the carafes spouts are designed to pour at any angle without dripping. For convenience, the coffeemaker has a digital clock/timer on its front that can be programmed up to 24 hours in advance to start brewing at a certain time--an ideal feature that gives you more time with your dinner party guests. The AromaControl has a Stopn Serve feature, which allows you to sneak a cup during brewing, and, once coffee has brewed, the machine automatically shuts off for safety. As a bonus, this coffemaker comes with two charms that slip around the necks of the carafes, one denoting "Decaf" and the other "Hot Water." The AromaControl uses paper filters and is covered by a limited one-year warranty. Read more Features | |
