4-0 out of 5 stars works good
I have had this for almost a year, and for the money I cannot recommend a better product. I would buy another.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Value
What a bargain, this is a great thermometer and the push button power switch is so easy to use; my other one had a tiny little switch that was so hard to work.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Accurate and Potentially Dangerous
From the start, it was apparent that the temperature displayed was 5 or 6 degrees higher than two other digital thermometers I had in the same room.So I followed the calibration instructions and was only able to get the display to read 34.1 degrees in a 32 degree solution... ok, so I can live with 2.1 degree inaccuracy. After calibrating, the room temperature was also only off by about 2 degrees. However, I decided to test it in boiling water and the display read 193 degrees (water boils at 212F).So, If you are counting on this thermometer to tell you anything important (such as if your meat is cooked suffiently or if your beer water is the right temperature for steeping), I would make sure it is accurate at the temperature of interest before using... or avoid it all together, which I wish I had done. ... Editorial Review

Great for the kitchen, workout room, or home shop, this small digital clock/timer is useful in counting down cooking time, timing circuit training exercises, or tracking paint or wood glue drying time. No bigger than the palm of a hand, the timer is magnetized to stick to a refrigerator or stovetop or, alternatively, hangs via a clip or mounts onto a table with its wire stand. The large 0.7-inch LCD screen is easy to read and displays the current time in hours and minutes. When set for timing, the instrument displays in minutes and seconds and times up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds, which is ideal for monitoring cook times on dishes that require slow cooking, such as braised meats. The timer counts either up or down and emits a beeping noise when time has elapsed, which is easily turned off by pressing the Start/Stop button. The timer runs on a single AAA battery (included), and Taylor ensures complete accuracy in its readings through a one-year limited warranty. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For the price, nothing beats it
Ok, I've owned this timer for about 2 years now. My daughter dropped it, actually, let me rephrase that, THREW it on the floor numerous times from her highchair.
1-0 out of 5 stars bad quality
It's bad quality because the the protective tape on the display cannot be removed and the battery cover at the back cannot be pushed in its proper place. It is also not easy to use. Resetting the timer is too much trouble, you have to go over all the way until you reach 99 minutes and start from 0 to set new minutes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good enough
It does its job, it was designed for. The only bad thing is , on the front of the package it said it had a clock feature, I can't figure out how to use this feature. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite gadgets
This is useful and fun, what more could you ask ? You can use one or two probes. The probes are connected to the transmitter, you then turn on the remote, then the transmitter. I use it for everything, steaks, chops, whatever. I go into the living room and watch the remote. When the temperature gets over about 100 I turn the meat over if necessary. The only thing I have noticed is the temperatures that trigger the audible alarm are set too high, likely thanks to lawyers. For example, when I set it to medium rare for beef, it was more like medium. Now I set it on rare ( 140 ) and get a perfect medium rare. For pork the number is 170. I take it off at 160. After all, it continues to cook after it is taken off. Before I bought this I used to guess but now I get perfect results every time. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE best wireless transmitter for the money
This transmitter works flawlessly. The dual-probes let you track two meats - or if you are like me and like to cook things at low (200-250 degree) temperatures it is invaluable to free you from having to sit next to the grill the whole time.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money.
This would be a fantastic item - if only it would work! I followed the instructions exactly and repeatedly for set up.It works great for about 20 minutes, then it loses the remote signal from the probes even when the receiver is located 15 feet away from my smoker. The signal won't come back until I go through set up, re-entering every setting only to lose the signal again in about 20 minutes. I made certain that I haven't exceeded operating temperatures or violted any other parameters for use. This product is a dog! ... Read more

This high-temperature thermometer takes the guesswork out of deep-frying chicken, doughnuts, and french fries or making jelly, fudge, or butterscotch. 5-0 out of 5 stars Well-crafted thermometer
This thermometer is perfectly designed, with the bulb sitting far enough away from the bottom to give a proper reading. The metal backing makes it very sturdy. The clip can be used to affix it vertically to a pot, or just to prop it up slanted in a smaller pot.
5-0 out of 5 stars good
I had been making fudge and doing the water method to determine if it was in the soft stage and let me tell you. This thermometer is the way to go. No guessing. When it reaches 240 degrees which it is also mark 'soft stage', I know it's time to remove from the heat. It has all kinds of markings on it next to the degree markings. Extremely helpful.I like the idea that it has an adjustable clamp on it to fit any depth size pan. The glass tip of the thermometer is about 1/2" higher than the metal framing to prevent the tip from touching the bottom of the pan. This is a pretty big thermometer. Approx. 8" high. Very sturdy and good quality made. You can see why some people have had these for years and years. Highly recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelllent thermometer
I purchased this thermometer to replace the one my mother (who has always loved to make candy) has used for the last 40 years. It was the same thermometer. She broke it, or it would still be going another 40. Most companies don't even last that long, much less their products. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for in the kitchen
I use this alarm in the kitchen and not for other things, so I can't comment on it in other capacities. As a kitchen timer, it's been absolutely perfect. It's easy to use and comes in two modes: an hour/minute mode, and also a minute/second mode. It's loud enough so that I can hear it anywhere in my apartment, though my apartment is pretty small. The best part, though, is that it has a magnetic backing so that you can stick it to your fridge (and it really sticks well) and press the buttons with it still on the fridge. If you prefer to not have it on the fridge, there's a little metal thing in the back that pops up so that you can stand the timer up.

2-0 out of 5 stars not loud enough
It won't wake you up. It has a very soft beep, and the vibration is easy to sleep through.

Opening the oven to check on a food's temperature means wasting the cook's time and losing oven temperature and moisture--not to mention a face full of steam. This thermometer prevents those problems. Insert the instrument's 6-inch stainless-steel probe into a roast beef or turkey and monitor the time and temperature (from 32 to 392 degrees F) on the thermometer's large digital display, which connects to the probe with a 4-foot cord. The control panel sets cooking time and temperature, and an alarm sounds when either is reached. Fully opened, the thermometer/timer is 5 inches high, but it folds flat for compact storage. Magnets on the back permit it to be temporarily mounted on a metal surface. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Raw foodist perspective: works great for my purposes
I bought this thermometer to use it with my dehydrator. If you want a living raw food, you need to make sure that the food temperature doesn't go too high, else the enzymes start to die. However, initially is okay to use a higher temperature - you just need to lower it after you get there, and this technique reduces the drying time to half or so. The dehydrator I have doesn't have a thermometer (of course it has a thermostat), so the Taylor comes handy to measure the air temperature to know when it's time to do that. Also, it's very precise.
2-0 out of 5 stars 3 month Review
This thermometer worked flawlessly for the first 3 months, then the probe broke. Don't ask me how it broke because I cannot see inside the metal do-hicky. A replacement probe is $10-15 provided you can find one.
2-0 out of 5 stars Some annoying features
First, when you use the temperature probe, the meat temperature shows on the display. Also, it is very easy to set the temperature alarm. However, there is a small switch that must be turned on to activate the alarm. Good for one burned roast. Granted, a mistake you will only make once.

No more burned cakes from a timer that couldn't be heard in the next room. This model not only has an extra-loud alarm but extra-big digits, so you can read it from afar. Easy to use, the timer simply has a start/stop button and two buttons for minutes and seconds. The timer counts either up or down, so it can be used as a stopwatch, with 100 minutes as the max. From a countdown mode, once the timer hits zero it begins counting up, so you know how much time has elapsed just in case you do miss the ring. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great timer!!!
I've been using mine almost daily for cooking and/or laundry, and it is still running off the original battery after more than 6 months. The one small criticism that I have is that the buttons are too easily pushed, and I can't stick it in my pocket without stopping it or changing the setting somehow.Other than that, it's ALL good...

4-0 out of 5 stars No frills but does the job
It's cheap, it's huge, and it counts down and up. This is exactly what I needed. I use it for music practice - it has a magnet on the back and sticks right to my music stand. Nice, big buttons so it's easy to pause or add time. Big display so it doesn't have to be right in front of you. And decently loud alarm so you can hear it when you're playing. I even dropped it onto a wood floor and, although I spent some time finding the scattered parts, it still works. 4 stars instead of 5 because it has NO OTHER FEATURES whatsoever - not even a normal clock - but definitely a good purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly as Described
Large numbers, easy to see, simplicity of use, counts up or down, portable, good value - what more do you need. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Taylor’s innovative remote thermometer lets the home chef monitor cooking without being tied to the kitchen. A durable transmitter and accompanying pager work in tandem to ensure meat is never overdone. To operate, insert the transmitter’s 6-inch steel probe into the main course and place it in the oven. The probe’s heat resistant chord travels from inside the oven, past a closed oven door, and connects to the transmitter sitting on a nearby countertop. Control settings can be set by type of meat or user-selected temperature. When ready, the transmitter sends a signal--reaching up to 120 feet--to trigger an audible alarm. If temperature monitoring is not needed, the versatile base unit can also function as a simple timer. Both transmitter and pager feature sturdy plastic construction and offer a clear digital number display. The transmitter requires one 9-volt battery while the pager runs with two AAAs--batteries not included with purchase. This product can be used when oven cooking or grilling and comes with a 1-year warranty. Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars Expensive - Yes.Worth the Cost - YES
I finally broke down and bought this after being disappointed with a few "cheapies" I had purchased.I learned that the probe on those cheapies had to be inserted almost 2 inches to take an accurate temperature, and they were slow to give you the temp. This registers the temp within a few seconds, only has to be barely inserted to take a temp, and has a huge display. It is wonderful for use in the kitchen or at the grill. Now my expensive steaks come out perfect every time.
5-0 out of 5 stars A pleasure to use.
I have a friend who often says, "Over the long run the cheapest items are often the most expensive." By this he means that it's often more economical to get a long-lasting, top quality product at the beginning, rather than an annoying series of inexpensive, short-lived "also-rans." This axiom certainly holds true with the Thermapen. What a joy and pleasure to own. While undeniably expensive, its quality and covenience of use makes it one purchase for which I have no regrets. ... Read more

The thermometer gives an instant easy to read temperature.Well worth the money spent for a great frothy latte.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good quality but poor functionality
I own several other Taylor thermometers and they are all very good quality items for their price range. However, this thermometer, though its quality is fine, lacks the temperature markings (i.e., it does not even go down to 100 F!) needed to perfect the steamed milk or frothed milk needed for lattes, cappucinos, or macchiatos. As one of the previous reviewers mentioned, once the temperature reaches 100 F, you should move the steam wand from the surface to the bottom. This is an essential step to get the perfect "microfoam" (not the big soap bubbles that you get from the Mermaid) that makes for a fantastic latte or cappucino.Bottom line: find a thermometer that has easy to read numbers, a clip, and temperature that goes down to at least 100, but preferably lower. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great for slow barbeque
The Polder is an excellent device, especially for a slow barbeque when opening the grill dissipates heat.Only fault is that whe I accidently left it out , later rain destroyed it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great easy to use timer
This is a great timer.Very easy to use. It's the second time we've purchased this timer. The first one finally stopped working after about 2 years heavy use.We kept the probe, which is fine, as a spare.I give it 4 stars rather than 5 because it would be nice if the alarm was a little louder. It is hard to hear over the sound of frothing milk.Still a great timer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Juicy every time ....
This is a great product. As long as you insert the probe into the meat and not too close to the bone it works perfectly. Chicken turns out perfect every time. You will not be disappointed. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

From the "What will they think of next?" department, this 21st-century egg timer takes the guesswork out of cooking eggs. Placed in a pan with eggs, its internal sensor reacts to heat just as the eggs do. It's like being able to peer inside a cooking egg to see what's happening. The timer's red face is calibrated to indicate soft, medium, and hard--and stages in between. As the timer heats up, in precise synchronization with the eggs, its face darkens from the outer edge inward, displaying the eggs' current status on the calibrated gauge. Because the timer heats in step with the eggs, it automatically adjusts for the amount of water and number of eggs in the pan--even the altitude at which the eggs are being cooked. What a concept! Features

    • Placed in pan with eggs, timer darkens as eggs cook
    • Calculates cooking stages precisely by temperature, not loosely by time
    • Reacts to heat just as an egg does
    • Adjusts for number of eggs, amount of water, altitude
    • Calibrated to indicate soft, medium, hard, and stages in-between

3-0 out of 5 stars Weird plastic smell
It does work and you dont have to worry about green eggs anymore. But as the plastic egg is boiling there is a strong chemical/ plastic smell in the kitchen that's kind of scary. I hope Im not eating any strange chemicals.

4-0 out of 5 stars no more guesswork
I highly recomend it, perfect hard, soft, or medium eggs every time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every fridge owner should buy this for their peace of mind.
Somehow we endured a terrible GE fridge that the repair department insisted was working fine from 1998 until last week!Well, our new fridge works because I now get to experience chilled MILK again in my home.I bought this thermometer just the same and my years of privation have left such a mark on me that I will probably always want one of these for whatever fridge I call my own.

    5-0 out of 5 stars multi-use thermometer
Taylor is known for its thermometers.I have used many of them through the years. This professional freezer-refrigerator thermometer is great. We had problems with our refrigerator/freezer and after my husband fixed it, we needed to have an accurate reading on both compartments. We like this one because it is large. You don't even need your glasses to check it to see if your fridge or freezer is in the correct temp. zone because the areas are clearly marked in color. It also responded rapidly when moved between the two compartments. The angle of the dial makes reading very easy.

This barbecue fork takes all the guesswork out of grilling meats. With its built-in digital thermometer, the fork supplies accurate temperature readings in either Fahrenheit or Celsius when its tines are inserted into a cut of meat. A chart on the back of the handle provides a quick reference to the minimum temperature requirements recommended by the USDA for food safety. Because the thermometer reads all temperatures between 0 and 220 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 to 104 degrees Celsius), it can also be used to determine how thawed or cool meats removed from the freezer or refrigerator are at the start of cooking.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars don't buy it
i received this product in the mail 5 minutes ago, opened the box and pulled it out for testing. the pos doesn't work. the power won't come on. i replaced the battery with a new one and it still won't light up. I guess I got the 1 in a million that made it through quality assurance defective. great workmanship, guys.

5-0 out of 5 stars WHAT a great idea!
You have to turn the meat. You have to take the internal temperature. Why do you need one pointy thing to turn and one other pointy thing to take the temperature? You don't! This fork does it all. GREAT IDEA.

5-0 out of 5 stars works like a champ
I've always had difficulty knowing when BBQ'd or smoked chicken was done, especially the thigh pieces. With this easy to use therometer, it is very simple to use and takes the guess work out.Now all my chicken pieces are cooked to the proper temperature and I am no longer worried about serving under cooked meat to my family and guests. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Works For Me
Great for cooking and short period aquifer pump tests. I only wish it had a little cloth bag for protection in the field, but I'll find one somewhere. Note: When setting the clock you have to enter the seconds amount or the time setting won't stick. The price is great as I bought two on a "Pre-Order" for a dollar-off and will give-up one towards a raffle here at work. As a pre-order it did take a month to get it, but worth the wait.

Most ovens, especially old ones, run hotter or colder than their set temperatures indicate. Rather than guessing how much to raise or lower the heat for a particular recipe, bake and roast with precision using a highly accurate oven thermometer like the Taylor Oven Guide. Made from durable, heavy-duty stainless steel, it measures temperatures from 100 to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. The large, easy-to-read face provides Celsius markings and a heating zone guide as well. Dishwasher-safe, this thermometer can hang in the oven or stand alone. It's NSF listed for food hygiene and safety.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars highly recommended
The temperature readings were spot on.
2-0 out of 5 stars Life span
The temperature markings on this thermometer are not protected!Over time the markings get occluded by grease and if you try to wash the grease off the markings come with it. This means the thermometer has a short life span for people who rely on the markings for anything (which granted is not everyone).Last time I buy an oven thermometer in which the markings don't sit behind a glass face!.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some problems but a good basic thermometer
My thermometer came with half the liquid at the upper end of the tube; I was able to 'shake it down' like an old medical thermometer and it seems to work fine now. My impression is that it may be reading a little low (about 20 degrees). Good because the liquid is not mercury! ... Read more
