After I figured it out I think it is a very, very good idea
When I received this thermos, at first I thought there was something wrong with it.For some reason I had the idea that to pour you had to flip up the top.Finally I went to the Amazon.com website and read about it again, it said to twist and pour.So I put some water in it to try it, and voila it poured like a charm.Whoever thought of the idea to leave the cap on (thus retaining most of the heat, which would escape otherwise) had a very, very good idea.The only thing I would change is there would be more specific directions so dummies like me understand better how it works.After I figured it out there is no way this would not be a very good thermos, if not the best! :)

i love this thermos!i fill it up in the morning with hot coffee and it will keep it hot all day.one time i accidently left it at work overnight, so i wasn't able to fill it up the next morning.i knew there was a little left in the thermos, and since i'm pretty much addicted to the stuff i decided to suck it up and drink bad, cold coffee.to my amazement it was still very warm (though not hot) and entirely drinkable!

works well, by keeping my smoothies frozen when I taken it for lunch. I have opened it after 3 hours at room temp to 80 deg, with the smoothie still frozen. Yikes!
I read the reviews before buying this coffeemaker and disregarded the ones about it overflowing as fluks or that the users didn't follow the instructions. That was a mistake. I read the instructions. It overflowed everytime I used it. I returned it. Save yourself the trouble and pass on this machine.

Nearly perfect
Capresso's MT-500 is as close to a perfect coffemaker as I have tried. Coffee is brewed quickly and with much taste and aroma. The thermal pot holds heat for several hours reducing the need to make multiple pots during the day. Savings in coffee, filters and spring water should pay for the Capresso in time.
Not brainless ease of use... but superb coffee
I have owned the MT-500 for about two months and am completely happy with the coffee it is capable of brewing. The water brewing temperature is exactly right on my machine (195 degrees F) and the brew time is OK, if just slightly long (about 5.5 minutes for the full pot of"10" cups - 1.6 liters). I will admit that it took me a while to find the correct brewing proportion of coffee / water. In the end I use 75 grams of medium roast drip grind for the full pot. If I use any more coffee than this the brew basket will overflow and it makes a mess. SO... be warned that this machine takes a little patience and experimentation to master but the results are outstanding. ... Read more

It's HOT!!....
I don't like how hard it is to open it to pour liquid in/out. You have to press a button AND at the same time; get your finger-nail somehow into a crevice that looks like it's one piece and doesn't come apart. Once you open it, it looks like a bird beak opening up. Also, I wish that the top came all the way off so it could be washed easier since it looks like it would not be a good idea to get water into the top.
Nice size and features, except the lock is flimsy.
I was looking for an "all season" pump dispenser to take with my kids and I to the park.I liked the fact that it keeps cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot and holds a good amount of liquid.Another selling feature was the fact that it said "easy to lock top prevents accidental spills."They failed to mention that is also an "easy to open" top.My 1 1/2 year old would have no problem opening the lid with the flick of a finger.Needless to say, I returned this item. ... Zojirushi Thermal Carafe
I just recently received this carafe and am VERY pleased with it.So far, it has kept our coffee piping hot for over 15 hours.I love the design and the swivel base.We have used the glass-lined plastic carafes in the past, and they just don't keep the coffee very hot.The Zojirushi Thermal Carafe is well worth the price.Excellent product!

Great Carafe
We have had this carafe for about a month and so far, so good. So very good. The coffee stays hot for about five hours without prewarming but for about eight hours if I put hot water in it the night before. The hot water, by the way, is still warm when I dump it out in the morning. I have not encountered any leaks as others have mentioned. The SS finish is very attractive and quite easy to clean. It's very easy to pour, just one half turn, and doesn't drip at all. I am very satisfied. I had bought a plastic lined one first, different brand, and it definitely failed my hot test. Another good part about this Zojirushi is the price. And, I might add, you cannot find these carafes in stores anymore. I tried everywhere imaginable with no luck. Thank you Amazon.
A fine compliment to the Cuisinart!
I bought this carafe shortly after I got a Cuisinart self grinder. It worked at first, but then it leaked! :( However, as good to their word, Amazon was great for replacing it. Now the new one will keep coffee hot ALL DAY. (if I desire, and some days, I do.) I know some reviewers complained about it dripping from the spout when you pour it, but I have not experienced that at all. It works great and I highly recommend it! PEACE

An inexpensive carafe that will keep your coffee hot.
I purchased the black version of this carafe to keep coffee warm at work.The carafe is glass lined, but very durable.Someone at work dropped the carafe onto something hard, resulting in a dent in the carafe and scratches in the finish.I had expected the glass liner to have shattered, but the carafe is still working fine.

Handle broke
We keep the coffee pot next to the stove, so the handle melted a bit.That was my bad...But then it broke off.That's just annoying.
worth the price
My old carafe had broken, and I was looking for a replacement.This was the only one available and in stock.Although I thought it was a little expensive, I love my Krups coffee maker and really needed a new carafe, so I went ahead and ordered it.It certainly was worth the price.The coffee stays hot for hours!!This carafe is better than the one that came with the coffee maker and was worth every penny I paid for it.

Zojirushi 2.5 Airpot
Not made well enough for the price.Even the inner tube which pumps the coffee is made out of plastic and doesn't come clean. Our previous pot was so much better.The lid is also flimsy.

This item performs exactly as was described in any of the marketing information I read.That, in and of itself, is something to be happy about.Keeps coffee hot up to 36 hours, is easy to disassemble and clean, and the Stainless Steel is well worth the extra $$. The last one I had was aluminum, and it became dulled and dirty looking over time.This one looks new all the time.

I was a little hesitant to believe that this air pot could keep liquids hot for a long period of time.I did a test at home before taking the pot to the office.I used water that ws just barely boiling. 17 hours later, the water was still steaming!!!I was/am very impressed.This is a great must have for a small office.I am very glad I decided to make this purchase.

Don't sell your microwave
My old Thermos brand carafe had about seen it's day, so after reading all of the great reviews here I picked one up one of these Zojirushi's. I have to say it barely keeps a fresh, piping hot pot of coffee warm until lunch time. In fact, I think my old Thermos brand plastic carafe actually did a little better job. Sorry, I just don't see all the excitement over this item. I find it an average performer. This is the model made in Japan and I have to say I'm not excited about the quality of construction either. Now I wish I would have just spent a little extra money on an airpot.

Sticky button
This carafe keeps beverages warm enough.The problem I'm having is the push button on the lid sticking in the open position.The instructions that accompanied the carafe address this issue, although they were written for a different model that has the push button on the top of the lid.Despite following these instructions the push button still sticks.To get the lid to close now after I'm done pouring I have to release the button and smack the top of the carafe.Very poor design in my opinion.I wouldn't buy another Zojirushi product based on this experience.

Great carafe - keeps my tea nice and hot for hours
I use my carafe (which Santa brought me) to keep my tea hot for hours. It's attractive, stable, easy to use. The lid goes on easily, though it can be difficult to open after it's been sitting for a while. For making tea, by the way, I find that a chopstick makes a great stirrer. An excellent choice, and a great value.

Wonderful insulated carafe for the low Amazon price....
I purchased this to hold my Bodum french press coffee maker coffee so it would not continue to steep and get bitter.It works like a charm and holds the entire pot (about 1 litre) at a uniform temperature.Reasonable care must be taken when washing or handling due to the glass liner.All-in-all, an attractive, high quality carafe that insulates the way it is supposed to.

Good Deal - Not Perfect
This is my first Carafe of this kind so I cannot compare with any other one. This Carafe is good looking in pure white plastic - didn't look cheap. The lid is very well designed - easy to close/open and good system for liquid delivering. On bad side, they say that this pot can keep liquid hot for up to 13 hours but it's not true. Best on market despite drawbacks
It's more compact and lighter for its capacity than everything else. In fact, it's not much heavier or bulkier than a Nalgene! I've bought three of these for myself (I lose things) and five for friends over the years.
