Love that didn't last
Breville has won many design awards of which it should be proud. Who wouldn't prefer the sleek beauties of the sort Breville makes to the clunky plastic vessels that proliferate like so many action figures gone to graveyards. But function matters, especially at the SK550XL pricetag. And that's where this relationship faltered. First the good points:

I wanted a metal electric kettle, and I was hoping for one that was attractive if possible.It's been very good.It boils quickly, has a nice little chime when it's done, and is quite stylish on the counter.The handle stays cool and it's easy to pour.The kettle itself gets hot but it is metal, after all, and stovetop kettles get hot too, so I don't view that as a drawback.I'm very pleased. ... DON'T GET BURNED!!!
This product is a law suit waiting to happen.I am constantly getting burned from the steam coming out the opening from the lid that does not fit on snuggly.Or the lid will fall off mid pour and hit the cup and water spills everywhere. For those of you thinking DUH hold the lid on with your finger - that finger gets burned from the steam coming from the pour hole.All in all its a really bad design - good idea - bad design.
Needs Improvement
I actually have the Toastmaster THMP2, which as far as I can tell is pretty much identical to this pot but with a now obsolete model number.

Falls Short of Expectation (flimsy)
Unfortunately the Zutton line of products bombed out in Japan so they sent them over here to try.Zojirushi is normally known for its quality products (and you can't beat the longevity on their "Made in Japan" potto dispensing pots) however, the entire Zutto line was tested by me and found to be less than promising (if you go to Japan and visit a department store, you will see the Zutto line in a quiet corner drawing no attention).The problem is that it tries to present itself as trendy and perhaps even metallic in nature.When you get the actual product you discover that it is in fact plastic and flimsy (just lift the lid on the Zutton Dispensing Water Pot and you can feel the quality or lack thereof).None of the Zutto products have any substance.To make matters worse, they must sell in this country for more than they sold in Japan.This reason is unknown other than the fact that they are trying to promote it as a high-end item when in fact it is plastic.Stick with the high-end rice cookers other than Zutton line (Made in Japan only)...For more information in Japanese see www.zojirushi.co.jp ... Useless product
We chose this product based on the online descriptions of:the small size, the picture of the beautiful floral design, and the simple operation methods. It would've been perfect for my mother to use at the nursing home. However, after about a week or so of use, problems started to emerge to the point of being unsafe, and rendering the pot useless.
defected product
The boiler worked ok at the beginning. But after a week, it stopped switching to keep warm after water was boiled, water kept just boiling unless I unplugged outlet. Amazon sent me a replacement, this time it is even worse. The boiler has the same defect from the first time I used it. I think something wrong with this model.

My best friend
For the longest time I would use the microwave oven to heat up water for tea, melt butter, boil an array of liquids.This tea kettle is wonderful.It has a wide opening for putting in things, like eggs for example for easy removal.Very reliable and fast.I dropped mine.The top broke, but it still works 2 years later without failing me once.

Worked very well... for a while
I bought this item just over a year ago... I guess that's why it doesn't work now... the warranty expired. But for the time it did work, it was simply "sufficient", I mean it did boil water. I used it nearly everyday in my office.
