I haven't had the performance issues that others have mentioned, but there are some design flaws that would make me not recommend or rebuy this.

this thing cooks
If you are a serious cook this item does more than boil water, yes that is it's purpose and this does it well. Boiling a small amount of pasta? Start this up and heat a pan on the stove. This is MUCH faster.A great time saver. Making James Beard's recipe for apricot bread? Use the mesuring device and add the boiling water. This is not the same thing as a burner device.I use it often for coffee, but, often it has so many more uses.Think of the times you boil water and you may get the idea.

The best on the market
If all you want to do is heat water, this is the best.It is fast, quiet and reliable.It pours very well.This was purchased to replace an earlier version of the same model.Unfortunately, they shortened the cord a bit (pulled all the way out) and removed the red float, so it's harder to see when you have the right amout of water in it.However, it is still a really great product.

Looks nice but leaks
The Metropolis line of products has nice styling (we bought the toaster, blender, and kettle).The kettle, however, leaks from somewhere around the bottom.We will now need to figure out how to get it replaced

A beautiful lemon
One extra star for the looks - but it is not only the looks we are after, aren't we? It worked well for about a year and a few days. In other words, it stopped working at about the time its warranty expired.In the meantime, it also managed to destroy my cabinet since it forget to shut off properly.No more DeLonghi in my house, I am sorry.

Metropolis kettle: works great, looks great!
We've had this kettle about a month or more and are very, very pleased with it's performance.We are a family of tea and coffee drinkers who are saving on our energy bill by using this electric kettle verses the old stove-top model.The Delonghi is trouble free, looks great on the kitchen counter and heats enough water for our teapots or large french press.We use filtered water, so there is no issue with cleaning or maintenance.The safety features are very handy (I've melted a few old style kettles to the stovetop!?!) and it heats the water quickly.I highly recommend this particular item, and I will order DeLonghi products in the future. ... Disappointed
We were impressed with how it looked. We wanted something a little fancier for the office but we had a hard time, almost impossible, keeping the "On lever" pushed down in order for the water to even boil. Tasteless Tea
Tea does not taste very good with the Sunbeam Hot Tea Maker.This tea maker also uses too many tea bags.It requires two tea bags to make 12 to 16 ounces of tea.I was amazed by how quickly this item did make tea.The reason it makes tea so fast is because it simply pours hot water over your tea bags.Why not boil water in the microwave and pour it over your tea bags?You would get the same result.This tea maker doesn't brew tea.You really need to boil tea to get the flavor from the tea bags.Another interesting feature of this item is that you literally have to take it apart to clean it.There are five different components that you will have to clean after every use.A teapot is much easier to use than this.It takes a little longer to boil tea in a teapot, but a teapot produces better-tasting tea.You should try to get a good teapot instead of this.Modern whistling teapots are made of stainless steel and porcelain.They brew tea in about 15 minutes.

Makes great tasting tea
In my opinion, the TeaDrop tea maker makes great tasting tea. I've been using it for several months now and have been pretty much pleased with it. I'm trying to drink more tea than I do coffee.

BACK STORY: I bought the Tea Drop to replace a Mrs. Tea unit that was MANY years old (but still working). I like the shape, color, and weight of the Tea Drop much better. For tea purists, the fact that automatic tea brewers do not bring water to a boil is problematic. For me, it matters not. I am a pragmatist. I just want a good pot of tea with a minimum of attention to the process. I want to push the button, go take a shower, and know that my tea will be waiting when I return. Neat but not silver
Great kitchen item (see other reviews). Pretty design BUT... I gave 4 stars not 5 due to the hassle of having to exchange the 1st unit I got in "matte silver" -- which in person is really gray plastic (not at all the stainless steel look I expected). I sent it back and got the chrome, much classier.

Works great for making a thermos of green tea
We have had this thing for most of a year now, and have used it every day to make a big pot of green tea.Here are some tips on doing that.
only lasted nine months
After nine months the flip-style plastic lid no longer sealed properly, leading to the risk of overboiling.I didn't bother to send it in for repair because the design is clearly flawed and it would have simply needed repair another nine months later.
Great - for a few months
I really liked ours, however, the heating element contacts do not seem to be heat resistant.This can be a problem when you want to use the kettle for heating water.

love it
i love my kettle--i bought it my first year of college, used it daily, and packed it away when i went home for the summer. i was afraid as my second year started that my kettle wouldn't work after such a long period of inactivity, but it was still in perfect working condition. i've had it at least 3 years now, and it's endured quite a lot of abuse, yet still works as well as the day i first used it. the only complaint would be the noise as the water approaches boiling--it's a very loud roar which can be very unsettling, especially with sleeping roommates around. overall, this kettle has never failed me, and i can't imagine it doing so any time soon.

Potential hazard confirmed
Some reviews here say that the auto-shutoff may be unreliable.I boiled a liter of water to test this. It shut off after 10 seconds of vigorous boiling. I repeated the experiment with the spout filter removed. It failed to shut down automatically - I switched it off after 30 seconds of rolling boil.Same with the lid open.

I owned this Tea Kettle brand before had it about 10-15 years but must now replace, some rust and some other foreign powdered material is coming out of the bottom of the kettle but did not hurt the workings of the kettle still works perfect but just was tired of the mess it would make from time to time, but all in all this is a fantastic kettle for the price which I might add was a better price from Amazon than the manufacture price with the old one 10-15 years ago which back then I paid 50 dollars for. This kettle boils super fast like in a minutes time, I don't boil other liquids in it as it states you can, just plain water for my Tea; diehard Tea drinker here!! so you can imagine this kettle is going all the time and gets plenty of use and stands up to all this for this many years my only hope this new one does the same which I believe it will as it is the very same exact kettle I had before which I just replaced. So if you want a great long lasting kettle for a great low price buy this one and you will be glad you did. I have also had the canadian version of this same make and model with the same results lasted many years, I always return to this same brand and model with great service everytime. This kettle also looks good. Well here's hoping you get the best long lasting service I did with mine. And I don't really know why others have rated this kettle much lower, as I say it has been a great Kettle to me. I rate this Kettle a big emphatic! 5 Stars!

I have had this gadget for serveral months and it works great.It has a stupid lid, but does everything it needs too.Like boil water for a coupious tea drinking fool.It hasnt burned me, my coworkers or broke.I use it often and take good care of it.I would not: thorw it across the room, let it sit too long while boiling, walk away from it while it is on for more than two minutes or man/woman handle it.After it is made of plastic.If you sit by it is worth it.The auto shut off does not work well.Other than that it should be purchased.

I'm an old hand with kettles, I thought I'd give this one to my spouse for our anniversary, but it was a bit of a dud. When the kettle was ready to boil the lid would fall down, steam would go everywhere. And it would often take ages to turn itself off. Looked great but...Think I'm going to get the braun instead.

Instant hot water
Iam loving the convience this product has brought me.I make french press coffee with it, so I now get a better cup and fast.My wife after a month has also said she is glad I bought it, she makes coffee and brews her tee for ice tee. I found other brands for more moeny and one for less but the less did not give you three tempature choices that this one has and 208 is the perfect temp for great coffee.

Great Product!No Problems! Avoid the Zoji!
I would avoid the Zojirushi for the prolems listed below. I've had this Panasonic Thermo Pot a couple of years and use it all the time.It never has had a problem with the lid rusting.The pump is very quiet and Everything on it works great.Would buy again.

Startling!!!
Just what I wanted in looks, size, performance, with one dramatic exception.That whistle.The first time I used it I was looking out the window to see what could be causing such a loud alarm only to find to my shock that it was coming from the kettle.If you're a bit hard of hearing, this may be the tea kettle for you.If you want something softer, definitely not for you.It sounds just like the citywide alarm that goes off every Tuesday at Noon here, though the sound of the kettle whistle will probably only carry as far as your puzzled neighbors.But other than the whistle, this is a beautiful kettle, thoughtfully and ingeniously designed. ...
