Editorial Review

Combining long-lasting brushed stainless steel with an elegant design, this 10-cup coffee maker features a double-wall vacuum-insulated thermal carafe and a flavor-sealing brew-through lid that keeps freshly brewed coffee hot for hours. The carafe's pour-and-lock system, as well as its open, soft touch, non-slip handle, allows for simple pouring with the push of a button. With the coffee maker's pause-and-serve feature, a cup can be poured mid-brew, and for convenience and safety, the unit is designed with an automatic shut-off feature. Its exclusive, filter basket-release button makes it simple to remove the basket and conveniently place it on the countertop for easy filling or cleaning. The coffee maker comes with a permanent gold-tone filter and an exclusive Brita water filter, which helps prevent scale build-up and reduces chlorine and other impurities for an improved coffee flavor. The unit is designed for household use only and features dishwasher-safe removable parts for easy clean up. The coffee maker measures 13 by 7-1/2 by 14-1/8 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Let down for a Braun believer!
First, a little history... My coffeemakers have been as follows:
2-0 out of 5 stars Shut-off time confusion in many reviews
First, there really is no problem at all with the 17 minute shutoff when it comes to keeping coffee hot. This model has no heater whatsoever in its base as some people apparently expect--the carafe is supposed to keep the coffee hot without an external heater. The 17 minute shutoff is strictly for added safety. Should the brewing thermostat be stuck in the "on" position after all the water had passed up into the basket, the shutoff would prevent that heater from melting down and causing a fire. Our unit brews completely within 5 minutes tops, so 17 minutes is more than adequate.
3-0 out of 5 stars An okay coffee maker, less than expected
The on button does not stay "on" for long. The coffee ends up getting cold in the thermal carafe, which really isn't that thermal.Looks nice, but doesn't function great. The taste of the coffee is okay though, when it is hot.The Brita filters that come with the coffee maker are, in my experience, hard to find.In ordering them on Amazon, there was a three week wait for them.Keep this in mind as the filters only have a two month lifespan. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Cheap Hot Water
This is a phenomenal price for an electric kettle. The lid doesn't seat so tightly, and it doesn't feel terribly robust, but for the cost, this will make tea and instant coffee in your office, dorm or home. We even heat up spagetti boiling water in it to speed it along the way (pouring it into the spaghetti pot to get a head start.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Electric Kettle
I can't believe that amazon put this on a one day sale for $10.I should have bought more.

Featuring an ergonomic handle and smooth lines, Braun's1,500-watt electric water kettle handily sits on a separate heatingelement. When water boils--one cup takes only 70 seconds--it's a reliefto pick up the kettle and pour without worrying about the plug draggingbehind. Once the kettle is removed from the base, it automaticallyturns off for safety. This good-sized kettle heats up to six cups ofwater, making it ideal for small meetings at the office or to quicklyheat up water (and water only, please) at home. 4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but overpriced
I've owned this kettle for about a month now.It does what's advertised, but it's far from perfect (that's why it gets a B- from me).In fact, it's no better than Black&Decker I bought at Target some 4 years ago for around $20.The "Open the Lid" button only gets the lid ajar without fully opening it (the lid is not spring loaded), so you do need both hands in order to open the lid (which is an incovinience if you have a pitcher of water in the other hand). You can fill it through the nose, but you gotta be careful not to spill the water around. Both the power button and the "Open the Lid" button have extremely cheap feel to them, there are huge gaps around them ... if I were to rate it on fit and finish alone it would get 2 stars ... but since my wife likes it, I'll give it 4 stars

5-0 out of 5 stars Works like it's s'posed to
I purchased this kettle about a month and a half ago, and from the time I unpacked it it's seen heavy, daily use by both me and my roommate. We are both caffeine junkies, so the fact that it boils water fast is cool.We are also both pretty spacy, so the fact that it turns itself off is also cool.I'm trying to think of gripes I have with the thing, but it actually works really well.If you need an electric doodad to heat up water, this will do it for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Leaked after a year
This would be a great kettle- pretty fast, decent design, but one year after purchase I am finding growing puddles under it- a leak has developed at the point where the bottom meets the side of the container. I have yet to find a kettle that is durable. This should have lasted at least 5 years. I hate disposable appliances. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good concept - Unreliable
Worked great on first usuage.By the 4th time I used the unit, it would boil for a minute past boiling, spewing steam and water out of the pot. Yes the metal pot does get hot, but I like the stainless steel. I am reordering a replacement unit due to the strong recommendations of other owners.I was very disappointed that Target was unable to handle my return.

2-0 out of 5 stars great while it lasted
great kettle, until it broke, after about 6 months of use. This seems to be a design flaw.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot Shot water in less than a minute!
We Purchased the black model Hotshot to compliment our kitchen appliances. We paid a little more for the black model but it has a nice up-graded design. We are very satisfied and I would recommend the unit as it has a nice appeal and works like a champ.

A real time-saver, this 32-ounce Hot Pot boils water 60 percent faster than a microwave. The plain white exterior makes it equally at home in an office or dorm room, and the nonstick interior can be wiped out easily with a soapy sponge (the pot should never be immersed in water). Seven settings, from low to high, allow milk to gently warm or noodle soups to come to a full boil. A one-year warranty covers the pot against defects. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars It's good....for a while
We use the Hot Pot in the office and it does indeed heat water really fast. The problem is that after only a few months (less than a year) of ownership, it started leaking like crazy. I guess we'll have to get another one. I'm glad it's cheap.

1-0 out of 5 stars Works for a while but then leaks
I've had two of these Rival hot pots. Both worked for a couple of months and then started leaking on my counters.
5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT for college students!
I recieved this hot pot as a graduation gift and it was one of the 3 things that I always used.It heats quickly, pours nicely, and cleans easily.4 years, no problems, and I'm bringing it to my new apartment.Very useful for boiling water for tea or cocoa, eggs, and pasta, and making soup.In my opinion, it is a great substitute for an electric kettle because it's shape allows for more versatility in the kitchen. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Worked great till it died....
We used the thing to death...literally. Used it daily. Loved it when it worked, but 6 months later the water tasted funny and the heating element started putting off this wretched smell that wouldn't leave the air. So we tossed it, and now we're on the search for another one. But finding one this size and as pretty isn't easy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Water Tastes Like Plastic & Filter is of Poor Design
On the plus side, the kettle boils water quickly, it's inexpensive, and the overall design is clever. Unfortunately, a couple of problems with this item may force me to abandon it.

This is my second electric tea kettle. My first, a Russell-Hobbs, was a great workhorse but it broke down after about 10 years of regular use--not bad.I wonder if this new kettle will meet that. The handle seems only lightly attached to the body--but I've had no problems yet. 5-0 out of 5 stars tea pot from heaven

For tea, instant coffee, or hot chocolate, this cordless, 1,500-watt electric kettle brings 1-1/3 quarts of water to a boil faster than a microwave. The kettle is made of stainless steel polished to a mirror finish. To provide 360-degree access, the kettle fits onto the power base in any position and swivels for easy liftoff. The heating element in the base never touches water, so there will be no mineral buildup on it. The roomy handle stays cool, the cord wraps on the base's underside, and rubber feet on the base resist slipping. For safety, the kettle shuts off automatically when water boils or if the kettle runs dry. The kettle stands 8 inches high on its power base and carries a one-year warranty against defects. 5-0 out of 5 stars A nice upgrade
After 20 years with 2 Russell Hobbs pots, this avid tea drinker was looking for a replacement, finally. I had hoped for another Russell Hobbs, but didn't see a good candidate -- but they do have this Chef's Choice on their site. I've had it two weeks now, and I agree with others that the switch is flimsy, but its performance is first-rate. It boils a full pot of water in about 4-1/2 minutes. For me, the steam only rises for about 10 seconds before it shuts off. There are several improvements over the Hobbs: The lid fits snugly, meaning no hand scalding even when pouring the last of the water; the side handle makes it very easy to fill; you can put the pot on at any angle without having line up a plug; and the hidden heating element is nice. However, the capacity is a bit smaller than the Hobbs -- not a huge problem, and it doesn't have the water gauge. But the lack of a gauge could be a good thing -- that was where my last Hobbs finally gave in to corrosion. It's about the same level of noise as the Hobbs. I do notice a little calcium on the bottom already, which was not a problem with the Hobbs. I live in a tropical climate that is pretty punishing to most metal appliances, so it will be interesting to see how this one holds up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this teapot
After reading the Amazon reviews I decided to order this electric kettle. I had read where somone stated that the kettle boiled too long before the auto shut-off kicked in. Maybe they have fixed that problem because, my tea kettle shuts off very soon after boiling, so I never have to worry about forgetting the boiling water. This pot looks very stylish, boils water fast, holds plenty of water and seems very safe due to shutting off quickly after water reaches boiling. I like the on-off switch, and the lack of cord.Worth the extra money over the cheaper one. I love mine!

1-0 out of 5 stars Looks can be deceiving
I ordered this kettle specifically to avoid heating up water in plastic. However, thiskettle emitted a foul chemical odor that also transferred to the water. I boiled it a few times plus tried the water/vinegar suggestion in the brochure but nothing seemed to help. I decided that I didn't want to take the risk of drinking these unknown chemicals so I'm returning it - it's not worth the risk. I can't figure out if it's coming from the "stainless steel" bulb(that feels like plastic to me if you tap on it) that covers the heating element or the plastic seal between the glass & the bulb. Plus the lid has a stong odor too & that is plastic covered in "stainless steel".

5-0 out of 5 stars very happy
I'm a college student who loves a cup of tea in the morning. Instead of wasting my meal plan on the nasty stuff on campus, I can now use this amazing device. It's also perfect for making the instant foods that college kids live off of. I couldn't be happier. The water boils very fast and it's silent and beautiful. Editorial Review

Americans are just beginning to catch on to what Europeans have known for ages: Electric kettles boil water faster than stove-top kettles. This compact tea kettle holds a quart of water and boils it even faster than a microwave, with the added advantage of a built-in whistle to let you know when the water is ready. The more water in the kettle, the louder the whistle. A stainless-steel lid on the no-drip spout flips up for easy filling and pouring, and keeps steam away from hands. Two additional safety features: a maximum fill line on the spout prevents boil-overs, and a thermostat automatically turns off the heating element in case the kettle boils dry or gets plugged in while empty. The exterior of the kettle is stay-cool plastic, and the interior base is anodized to resist mineral build-up. Compact and lightweight with a 2-foot cord, the kettle measures 7 by 6-1/2 inches and comes with a one-year warranty against defects. Read more

Features

  • Built-in whistle signals when water is boiling
  • Boils a quart of water even faster than a microwave
  • Large no-drip spout makes filling and pouring easy
  • Flip-up stainless steel lid directs steam away from hands while pouring
  • Shuts off for safety if boils dry; 7 by 6-1/2 inches

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent small kettle for a bargain price
I actually own two of these kettles for several years now. One at home, and one to make a quick tea/coffee at work. They make a quick job of boiling water, have a very loud whistle and just excellent overal. One thing to notice though - it will only hold three to four cups of water. Perfect for a small family, but not enough if you have more than 2 tea drinkers at home. I have not seen rust on either pot I own, so it's possible that the other reviewer had a bad unit.

3-0 out of 5 stars not quite what I wanted
In my old whistling electric tea kettle, I could put in 1 cup of water and it would whistle when the water boiled. Not this pot.The water will boil, but, no whistle. You need, at least 1 1/2 cups of water for the whistle to work.I wanted the same type of pot I had before, to only need to 1 cup of water in it, and it would whisle.Something like this, should be in the product description.I'll keep the pot now, but, don't know that I would have bought it had I known before about needing more than a cup of water to whistle.
5-0 out of 5 stars Electric Tea Kettle
Nice compact size and holds enough water for a pot of tea.Heats quickly and has a fill line so it doesn't boil over when done.Very practical and extremely well priced based on other models. It is a "basic" kettle but I would buy it again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just like a typical British kettle - excellent!
As a Brit living in America I spent years boiling the water for my tea on the stove top, as none of the (very few) electric kettles available in the shops looked any good - certainly not up to the standard of a typical British kettle that could be purchased for a fraction of the price back home. Finally I decided to look online and see if I could find a decent kettle there and, after doing extensive research, I settled on this Krups kettle as being the best model available in the US for a decent price. The best thing about it is that it has 1750 watts of power (more than any other kettle I found available in the US), which means that it compensates somewhat for the lower voltage in the US and actually boils almost as quickly as a British kettle. The minimum amount of water you're supposed to boil at one time is 2 cups, and this boils in just under two minutes. However, since I am usually just making just one cup of tea at a time, I often boil just one cup of water and this takes 1 min 8 secs and doesn't seem to harm the kettle, as the base is fully covered by the water. I also save loads of time when cooking pasta now by boiling the water in the kettle first before pouring it into the pot and adding the pasta. This is also much more energy efficient. I have owned the kettle for about three months and have used it daily, and it has not caused me any problems at all. I would highly recommend this item - especially for all you tea drinkers out there fed up with more antiquated methods of boiling water!

4-0 out of 5 stars initial not staying on issue fixed
I had the same issue as the person who bought it for their grandmother. I called Krups, and they gave me the number of a local repair place. I called them and the repair guy told me to turn the on off button on and off like 6 times and try again.
1-0 out of 5 stars Premature switch off
This was purchased for my 85 year old mother-in-law and it doesn't work. The button that you push to turn it on always switches off before the water is boiling. If you want hot water one must stand and hold the button down till the boiling occurs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Every Day
This thing is a workhorse... I use it every day. Mine's been going strong for over five years now. I just wish they'd bring back the translucent colors. I love being able to see at a glance whether the kettle has water in it or not. With the current opaque black or white models that's not possible. ... Read more

Pros:
1-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous kettle.
Metal casing gets burning hot.Changed for the white plastic version which gets 5 stars from us.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fair Product
Was disappointed in the quality of this Krups Electric Kettle. The base is made from cheap plastic and the top portion of the kettle contains much plastic as well.I purchased a Breville electric kettle a few months prior to this purchase and will be sending this Krups back and getting another Breville. Some company needs to come up with a totally stainless steel model (lid and all).Breville model is more elegant, better design, and has less plastic exposed to boiling water and steam. ... Editorial Review

With its air pump dispenser and touchpad controls, the Micom electric air pot from Zojirushi keeps hot water conveniently at the ready in your home or workspace. The pot’s micro-computerized temperature system regulates heat precisely, first boiling water then keeping it at a steady 208 degrees F for future use. To get water back up to maximum temperature, you just hit the convenient re-boil button. A dechlorinating feature reduces chlorine and musty odors in tap water, and a descaling feature cleans the nonstick interior. A simple lock on the lid helps protect hands, and automatic shut-off prevents boiling dry or overheating. With its 3-liter capacity, the pot takes 29 minutes to boil if you fill it all the way. That’s no speed record, but the all-day convenience does redeem the initial wait. Helpful details include a water-level gauge, a swivel base, a basket-style handle, a removable power cord, and function indicator lights. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous little hot water pot!
We love this pot, and keep hot water available 24 hours--nice to grab that lunchtime soup or late-night cup of camomile tea. It is easy to use (pour in water & plug in) and pour (push down on circle which depresses on top of lid). Great value! This was a surprise appliance in the best possible way--never expeccted to like it so much or use it so constantly on the kitchen counter--good looking too! Jill ... Read more

Editorial Review

Made of heavy cast aluminum with a nonstick surface inside and out, this multipurpose cooker with lift-and-drain basket simmers soups and stews, browns and roasts meats, boils corn on the cob and other vegetables, steams fish and rice, and deep fries shrimp and other foods. And in addition to its everyday versatility, the cooker can be washed in the dishwasher after simply removing the heat control. The glass lid is also dishwasher-safe. For safety, the cooker comes with a short 30-inch cord with a magnetic coupler that attaches to the heat control; if jostled, the cord detaches at the magnetized point to help prevent the kettle from being overturned. An easy-turn knob on the heat control adjusts the cooking temperature from warm to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Two large handles make the cooker easy to lift, and four sturdy legs keep the heat off the countertop. The cooker measures 9 inches in diameter and stands 7-1/2 inches tall. For best results, wash the pot before first use and season with cooking oil. Presto covers the cooker with a two-year warranty. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Top Quality Product-Does what is Claimed
In addition to being attractive looking, it is a rapid boiler, so I make my much needed first "cuppa" in a flash.Product performs as advertised!Winnie P.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great buy
This hot pot is great in the dorm. It boils fast, cleans easy, and is small enough to not be a problem. I haven't had any problems with a "placticy" taste, and really no problems overall.

2-0 out of 5 stars Missing a basic function
While researching inexpensive electric kettles for the occasional in-office cup of tea, I checked for capacity, ease of cleaning, etc., but I never thought to check if it would actually TURN OFF. After ordering this 45802 Hot Pot I failed to note that the temperature dial goes from Warm to Boil but has no actual Off position. After boiling my first cup of water on Friday (which did work nicely) I left, only to come back on Monday to discover that the pot was warm! Luckily there was still some water in it and no damage done. In addition, I have also found that the way that the lid seals near the handle is prone to leave a small gap through which boiling steam will escape as you tip it forward, thus exposing your hand to an unpleasant surprise. I think that someone let the junior engineer work on this one and would choose another model next time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rapid Water Boiling
I recently purchased the Toastess Kettle and have been extremely pleased.I use it to make tea in my office and it heats water faster than anything other than a microwave (without the danger microwave boiling can present).I highly recommend this kettle.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT KITCHEN HELPER!
I absolutely love my toastess kettle. The water boils fast, there's an automatic shut-off, and being cordless, I can heat up water and then set it on the table for dinner. We use ours to help boil water faster for pasta, for soups, for tea, and for hot cocoa. I'm planning on getting one for my mother for Mother's Day because it has really taken the stress out of putting the tea water on in the morning and forgetting about it (we're both famous for this).I probably would have burned the house down by now with a regular kettle. This is definitely a keeper! ...
