5-0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased
I initially recieved 4 as a wedding gift. They worked so well, beyond other knives I have used that I had to buy 8 more for a 12 piece set. Highly Recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars great knives for a very good price
This is the only set of steak knives that I have ever owned. That being said I can tell you that these knives are sturdy and up to the task of cutting meat superbly. $30 is dirt cheap too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Shower Gift!
Purchased 2 sets (8-Piece Steak Knives) for a wedding shower for an awesome price.I found the same knives in a department store for a higher price and there were only six in the set!I have owned a set of these for 11 years and they are great. They dress up the dinner table nicely - the ones with the big bulky black handles are not as elegant on the table. Can't wait to purchase these again for the next bridal shower I attend! ... Editorial Review

Henckels International leverages the knowledge and expertise synonymous with its manufacturer's famous name to produce high value products at a lower cost. Many characteristics of the premium brand carry over to these more affordable blades. Forged from a single piece of stain-resistant steel, each knife offers a full tang and the classic triple-riveted handle. Measuring 8-1/4 inches in length, the cutting edges feature a serrated texture to easily slice steak, tuna, or pork into bite-sized morsels. Additionally, the blades can ably tackle any number of kitchen cutting and slicing tasks. Without the need for sharpening, the cutlery is virtually maintenance-free and even cleans safely in the dishwasher--although hand washing is preferred. Comprising eight knives, this set makes an excellent wedding or shower gift. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great set for the price ...
Knife set is made in Japan. Very sharp. Each knife weighs like any typical steak knife (1.5 oz).

5-0 out of 5 stars You're NOT Getting Stabbed In The Back With These Knives!!!
Well, gee whiz! All the negative press these under-rated knives are getting! I managed to slice my fingers (DEEP!) spewing blood...just trying to get them out of their packaging! They're plenty sharp alright!I didn't find them at all flimsy, wobbly or thin! On the contrary, I found them to be stable and sturdy with just the right amount of "heft". Makes me wonder WHAT people are trying to saw thru with these knives!

Many associate Ginsu knives with the product’s kitschy infomercial from the ‘70s that begins with a karate kick to a watermelon and proceeds with a demo of these knives cutting through just about anything in the house. From one of Henckels' moderately priced cutlery lines, theseeight steak knives divide any rib eye, chop, or roast into bite-sizepieces and then store in a handsome wood box. The thin, curved bladesare perfect for precise cutting, although their fine serrations tend totear meat fibers rather than slice neatly through them. Stamped fromhigh-carbon stainless steel, the knives are lighter in weight thanforged knives and don't have bolsters, which might not be essentialwhen confronting a thick prime rib. The synthetic handles featureclassic three-rivet styling with full tangs for strength. The storagebox is stained a rich auburn. It has brass hinges and snap closures andmeasures 15-1/4 inches long, 1-3/4 inches high, and 5-5/8 inches wide. The knives are dishwasher-safe and carry a lifetime warranty againstdefects. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
I got a set of four of these same steak knives for Christmas 2004, and they've been excellent. They've seen constant use and are still razor-sharp.
4-0 out of 5 stars Adequate Cutlery
I purchased these knives after having purchased and returned mundial steak knives that had great blades, but the black plastic handles faded after only one hand washing. These knives have serrated blades and are fine for cutting steak on a plate, and I don't think I would want steak knives to be any sharper than what these are, because if so, they would damage my dinner plates. You aren't supposed to wash them in the dishwasher, but I have several times now and they came through as good as new.The rose wood box is nothing special, but it's okay.Overall, for the price, I'm quite happy with these knives.

Editorial Review

The eight large, sturdy knives in this knife-and-block set easily slice a thick sirloin steak, a lamb chop, or a pork roast into bite-size pieces and provide the hefty feel suitable for diners with hearty appetites. The 4-1/2-inch blades have serrated edges, so they tend to tear meat fibers rather than slice precisely through them, although their microserrations are finer than most serrated steak knives. Fine serrations mean they stay sharper longer. The handles on these knives are classic three-rivet style with full tangs.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Chintzy, not worthy of Henckels brand name
We have nothing but Henckels in our kitchen, as we love to cook, and everyone who cooks knows the value of good knives.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
I was looking at another Henckels set for a couple of hundred bucks. I just could not justify spending that kind of money for steak knives. I saw these and figured I could return them if they were too cheap. For $50 they are a super value. They don't have the weight of more expensive knives, but they are well built. I like the serrated edge. Cuts through a steak with very little effort. Block is a quality piece of wood. I'm very pleased and glad I did not spend $150 more for steak knives.

This set of high-carbon, no-stain, 4-inch steak knives is made from high-grade, rolled stainless steel and produced using Henckels's Sintermetal Component Technology. This process allows different grades of steel to be combined to form a single integral piece capable of withstanding extreme stress. This process, plus the serrated edge, ensures prolonged sharpness without resharpening. Each knife is one long piece of steel with no additional plastic or wood handle and is designed to balance comfortably in your hand. The set is dishwasher-safe. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for use and good for gifts.
Originally I ordered a set of these knives for the use of my wife and I. My daughter was so impressed with them that we orderded her a set. Since then we've ordered sets to be used as gifts for members of our family.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lighter and smaller than expected but perform quite well
I selected these knives because I wanted high quality steak knives that are also dishwasher safe. I read somewhere in the description or reviews that they are dishwasher safe. This is important because other people in my household (teenagers and husband) have absolutely no regard for what can, and can not, go into the dishwasher (I've replaced at least two Tupperware ice cream scoops for that very reason - they pit terribly in the dishwasher). I wanted to make sure the knives would live through a few cycles knowing someone in my house would most certainly put them in despite any lecture I may give about them being hand wash only. However, the care instructions in the box say hand washing recommended - no where does it say dishwasher safe. Aside from that, the knives are stylish and sleek but are smaller and lighter than I expected. Doesn't appear to be a problem because they do cut wonderfully and that's what important. Time will tell if they stay sharp and useful but I am quite satisfied with them at this point.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best steak knives
These knives are not only the greatest, but they are also very good looking, you can put them together with your silverware on the table instead of using the wooden handle ones. And no one can't tell they are not part of the set. Plus they actually cut oh so easy. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great overall knives made of good steel.
I have this set and for the money it is a great price.Great knives of course have that delicate balance of chromium and carbon. This means rust will occur and therefore you have to wipe the knife from time to time. That's just the way it is unless your willing to pay three to four times the amount of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Wusthof
After reading everyone else's reviews, I waited until after we used them to comment. We had steaks on Father's Day to test them out and they cut our steaks perfectly. They are pretty light and aren't as heavy as I thought I would want, but they are just fine now that we've used them.Becuase of the silver color and simple design, they will go with any cutlery you have.I thought the box was going to be cheap by the other reviews and complaints, but the dark wood was just beautiful and a great gift presentation box. This was a real deal that couldn't be beat for comparable sets on Amazon and other sites!I'm glad I did my homework.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very sharp and well made
These knives are great.Unlike some stainless steel knives, these do not rust and are dish washer safe. They also have a very sharp edge. The blades are a little thinner than most steak knives but that actually allows them to cut better. They are worth every penny.

3-0 out of 5 stars SHARP!!
As someone who never actually bought steak knives before I have to say I was a bit shocked at how sharp these knives are.I am, of course, a long-time steak knife user and I have never encountered a steak knife as sharp as these are.The smooth portion of the blade, in fact, can slice a sheet of paper smoothly and nearly as easily as a razor blade.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Second Set of these Knives
I ordered a set of these knives more than a year ago when they were offered for less than $30.We use them daily, they remain extremely sharp, look and feel wonderful, and are a pleasure to use. I have been washing them regularly in the dishwasher and have not noticed any damage or discoloration to them. I wanted to buy a second set but they were always approx. $50-$60.Finally, they were recently on sale for less than $25 so I did buy that second set. They would have been worth the full price, but I sure love a bargain.I will be watching for the next sale so I can give some as presents. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wüsthof Classic 6-Piece Steak Knife Set
Many people might scoff at a set of steak knives at this price, My only retort is to relate the story of sneaking around (because of my wife's non belief that there was a difference) and buying a set of the Wusthof Classic Steak Knives and using them for the first time. No matter what knife you have laying around and how sharp it is, the Wusthof is superior. It is the most obvious in steak knives because you use them everyday. Read more

Editorial Review

High tech from tip to handle, Global knives from Japan created a sensation when they burst onto the world's culinary stage as an alternative to traditional European-style cutlery. Blades are made of hard molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel and "face-ground" with a long taper rather than a short bevel so edges remain sharp longer than even the best high-carbon stainless-steel knives. Edges also are ground at a more acute angle than traditional European-style knives and arrive from the factory razor-sharp. Thinner blades result in lighter knives. (Global also makes a "heavyweight" line for cooks who prefer hefty knives.) Though most Global knives have hollow handles, the handles on the four steak knives in this set are solid. Their 3-1/2-inch blades are finely serrated on one side. They also are among the few Global knives with bolsters.Read more

  • Four 3-1/2-inch, finely serrated knives for slicing steaks, chops, roasts

  • Lifetime warranty against defects and breakage

3-0 out of 5 stars Stamped, not forged!!!
I've noticed in the reviews on this they they mention that these are forged knives. All of the Calphalon Contemporary knife set are forged EXCEPT for the steak knives. They are stamped.I don't quite understand why they staped them, especially for the price.Unlike the rest of the calphalon line, pots and pans included, this product is being sold for it's name, not it's quality.I gave it three stars because they do cut, but so will ones 1/4 the price. If you are looking for amazing, FORGED steak knives, henckels 4 star (99.95 set of 4), 5 star (159.95 set of 4), Pro S (same as 5 star), Twinstar Plus (?), or if you have the money, Kyocera Ceramic knife's (159.95 for one)are your best bet for super sharp knifes that will stay that way.Wusthof is terrific, but they don't have the hardening process that Henckels uses, so they need to be sharpened more frequently.I don't think these are worth the money by themselves, but when included in the 15 piece block set, they're not as much of a dissapointment.

First, I will admit to being a Calphalon snob - I have over 20 pieces of their cookware, both from Toledo (Go Mudhens!)and from China, and am aware of their value and quality.3-0 out of 5 stars Ginsu knives - unfortunately 10 times as expensive
Unlike all the other Chinese produced Calphalon products which carry very attractive prices, this is not the case with these knives, and do not compare favorably to Calpholon's other knives. Though forged, the knife blanks are considerably thinner in thickness, producing a very flexable blade more akin to a fillet knife than a meat cutter / slicer and are hollow ground on only one side of the cutting surface due to a serrated tip, making the blade impossible to sharpen. The balance point for the knives is approx an inch behind the bolster, making the knife a bit handle heavy, rather than balanced. The wood knife tray, though nicely machined, is made out of soft pine or aspen with no finish - it has a distinct pitch odor and is already serverely dinged and gouged from having to remove four rather large pieces of tape which afixed the plastic cover to the tray. Not very attractive - I suspect a short life for the tray. Had it not been for the fact that these knives were purchased as a package with a bunch more Calphalon, and received a fifty dollar off a future purchase certificate, thereby, in effect rendering these knives as "free", I would return these sub par Calpalon offerings. The form of the knives is good in concept, but the function / execution of the form leaves alot to be desired. If I had seen these during a late nite infomercial, I would understand, but these are supposed to be top shelf items. My first dissapointment from Calphalon. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Stamped from high-carbon stainless steel, the four knives inthis set are designed to cut steaks, chops, and roasts at the tableinto bite-size pieces. Because their 4-inch blades are serrated, theytend to rip meat fibers rather than slice neatly through them. On theother hand, the serrations' points make it easy to for the blades togrip a piece of meat that has a tasty, seared crust. Handles are madeof stainless steel with a contemporary satin-finish, and the knives arenicely balanced so they feel comfortable in the hand. They carry alifetime warranty against defects. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great knives!
I've been using them for six months and I haven't had any problems with the handles rusting (like another review on here says). They are great so far.

5-0 out of 5 stars calphalon fan
I received these knives free from a coupon off of another calphalon pan and they are the best steak knives I've ever owned.I'm going to buy another set and at $19.99 they are a wonderful bargain.I've put them in the dishwasher for six months now and they are still like new. These are one solid piece, cut like a dream, and look elegant. There are six people at our house but only four knives and everyone fights for these knives.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this set !
I bought this set a month ago and was amazed to discover that the handles rust very easily ! I usually really like Calphalon stuff but these knives suck. Do not buy. ... Read more

Editorial Review

With their slim, thin blades curving up to a sharp point, these knives slice a steak into precise bites. "International Classic" is a moderately priced cutlery line made in countries other than Henckels's home of Germany. Henckels's "International Traditional" line is identical except it has hardwood handles. Steel is of lesser quality than Henckels' premier lines. The knives are dishwasher-safe, but not recommended. 5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised
I consider the HenkleSteak Knives I puchased a complete success. The price I paid was very resonable the product sturdy and I am looking forward to having a life time of use out of them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Same as the entire Classic series
Great knives. I've owned a set for about 6 months and they are still the sharpest set I've used. The handle rivets do lose their shine after a while, the same as the rest on the knives in the Classic series. Are they worth the money? At a stretch, yes, especially if you are buying them to compliment a full Henckels set.

1-0 out of 5 stars Henckels....
I am really disappointed in this product - I feel Henckels tries to trick their customers by providing lower quality products under the same label.I understand that the logos are different, but many people buy this set believing they are getting quality German knives for a discount, when in reality they are getting a cheap set of knives that should cost maybe $20, but because of the name are paying $80.As a sales rep and manager for the number 1 selling cutlery brand in the United States, I can say that the reason we outsell Henckels 4 to 1 is because we are completely honest with our customers. ...
