Editorial Review

With its ample dimensions and burly construction, this commercial 5-quart KitchenAid mixer is prepared to be a culinary beast of burden. Smartly engineered so that the beater moves clockwise while the shaft moves counterclockwise, the beater reaches every part of the bowl without requiring it to rotate. 5 mixing speeds plus a stir setting means the appliance can do everything from folding cranberries into biscotti to whipping up a fluffy meringue. The all-metal construction includes a heavy-duty motor to handle stiff batters and a hardwearing transmission that ensures continuous power. The mixer’s seamless, stainless-steel, 5-quart bowl stands flat on its indented base and features sealed handle and bracket connections that meet NSF standards. A professional-style bowl lift raises it easily and securely into position, even if it’s brimming with weighty dough.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Get this Model for Weekend/Holiday occasions!! Mixer Shoppersdon't be Stupid!!
Don't mind my bad spelling but........We rate it Four Stars becuase of the expectations of KitchenAide products are high. We believe that this model is great for holiday and weekend bakers/cooks. Not for the everyday, likes to make everything under the sun type( if you are thats great!). The value is awesome and recommend that you buy the pouring shield along with it ( around 20$). Power is at a 7 becuase there are stronger models available. Duribality is an 8. Versatility is a 9. Easy use is a 8.5. And cleaning is a 9. Value is a 10... So overall its an 8.6! So take some time to read other reviews and to helpb make your choice, but we recommend KithenAide brand of mixers overall.

3-0 out of 5 stars Want More Power and Metal Gears, Go With The RKG25H0X
I noticed the great price on this machine, but after checking the specs, I decided to go with an upgraded model. If I'm gonna finally get a KitchenAid, I want to get the best machine possible, and for only $30 more, you can get the RKG25H0XWH which features metal gears (the RRK5A has nylon) and a 450-watt motor (the RRK5A has only 300-watts).
5-0 out of 5 stars Bread kneading
You guys do know that you shouldnt fully knead the bread dough in the mixer. You start it partially and knead the rest by hand so you dont over work the dough. then you let it rise, then punch it down and then form it into the shape you need then bake away. Kneading the whole process in a mixer is a lazy mans way of making bread. we used this same mixer through my Le cordon bleu culinary program and it worked fine. ... Read more

KitchenAid's Artisan stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 325 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough. This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solidly constructed and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist. This model also includes a pouring shield for guiding ingredients to their proper destination, and the bowl itself locks tight to the base. Standing about 15 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off. Read more

  • 325-watt mixer with 10 speeds; 5-quart stainless steel bowl
  • Tilt-back head for easy access to mixture
  • 2-piece pouring shield with large chute for adding ingredients
  • Includes flat beater, dough hook, and wire whip
  • Measures 14 by 8-2/3 inches by 14 inches; 1-year warranty

3-0 out of 5 stars MAKES A GREAT PROP
The main reason I bought this mixer was because I wanted the whole retro-appliance look for my kitchen.I was actually less concerned with how it works.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely no comparison this is the BEST
My original mixer is almost 12 years old and recently was given to my mom because we received a brand new mixer as a housewarming gift. This is by far the BEST stand mixer on the market.I love the ease with which this product works, it is invaluable in your kitchen. It whips cream in 2 minutes (chill the bowl first), but can also handle heavy dough or batter, like breads, without any strain on it's motor. My 12 year old mixer works exactly like my brand new mixer, and in the 12 years that I've owned the mixer, never ever had a problem with it.No maintenance! You will never regret purchasing this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Go Ahead and Buy it!
There are already many great reviews of this outstanding product, and all I can really add s : just go ahead and order it.Amazon has the best prices, and if you're debating between the Pro model vs Artisan, you can't go wrong either way. There both plenty powerful and big enough for any home uses. The tilt-head Artisan series is more compact and easier for most people to use, so it will likely be the best choice (the price difference doesn't hurt either). My girlfriend and I became a little too attached with the notion of the Pro model, and it almost made us delay the purchase (until we could afford it).I'm glad we wised up and ordered the Artisan.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good mixer for light use
The mixer is good for doing an occasional bread recipe, and for other light tasks like whipping cream, mixing mashed potatoes, etc, but if you use it to make heavy or dry breads on a regular basis it isn't suitable. When I first received the machine I loved it.I liked the high quality metal construction, the provided attachments, and the reputation of the KitchenAid name.
4-0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!!
I love my kitchenaid, I have made, bread, cakes, cookies you name it.I can't stop using it since I got it, so why the 4 stars instead of 5 you might ask, well the reason why I am giving it only 4 stars is because everytime I make bread the bowl gets stuck in the base of the machine and it is super tough to get it out for cleaning, since it does not have a handle you can't get a good grip.I'll end up buying a bowl with a handle for bread making purposes but I wish all of the bowls had handles on them.Other than that the machine is wonderful, strong and I am sure it will last a very long time.
5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE my kitchenaid
I LOVE my kitchenaid. It has made everything easier from shredded cheese to cutting veggies and grinding meat.It also makes the lightest and most fluffy chocolate chip cookies anyone could hope for.Powerful but not real loud, I was raised with this machine and then I bought my own.My Grandmother used it to make her bread and now I do too. There isn't much it can't do.Make sure to get the accessories, because you will use them.Durable in a variety of sizes and colors, this is a must have for any kitchen. I have had mine for several years without a problem and my Grandma has had hers for a long long time (almost since she was married) and the same, no problems. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mixer Looks Brand New
I have owned a factory-reconditioned KitchenAid Professional Mixer (6 qt.) for over two years and have had no trouble with it.It arrived in perfect shape, looking brand new.I bought this one for my daughter as a wedding gift.It was on her gift registry at a chain store.I saved $155 off the retail price (over 50%) using the OCTSAVER coupon and by applying for an Amazon Visa card, plus have six months to pay with no interest. The mixer arrived yesterday and has no scratches or blemishes. It, too, looks brand new.I took it out of the box to be sure it looked new, and only had to adjust the beater height using the screw in the neck of the mixer to get it in perfect shape.I know she will love it and it will look great in her kitchen.Maybe she'll even use it to cook something!
2-0 out of 5 stars Artisan refurbished
I bought it with augsaver and free shipping a deal!
4-0 out of 5 stars Great machine, great price
Although not a huge motor, this machine does great not only for home use; but this is the 3rd one I've bought in the past few years for restaurants I work in. If you're going to make a lot of bread doughs or do a lot of grinding you'll probably want the bigger motor; but otherwise this one should do everything you want.

Editorial Review

This electronic stand mixer beats cake or bread dough, leaving your hands free for other food preparation tasks. The powerful motor has 12 easy-to-set speeds that can handle any mixing task. You can knead dough or stir ingredients on the lower speeds, smooth batters or mash potatoes on the medium speeds, and whip cream or prepare frosting on the highest speeds. An electronic sensor detects how large your quantities are and adjusts the speed up or down automatically to accommodate larger or smaller loads. The mixer comes with 1-1/2-quart and 4-quart stainless-steel bowls that are dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning. Both bowls rotate on the mixer’s turntable during operation for more even blending. The mixer also has two beaters that are large in size, leaving little batter on the sides of the bowl to scrape down. Two heavy-duty dough hooks are included for making bread. A release button easily ejects the beaters or hooks for cleanup. Made of lightweight plastic and fairly compact in size, this mixer is easier to lift and store in a cabinet than some of the heavier cast-iron stand mixer models. This appliance is covered by West Bend under a 90-day warranty. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased!
I was glad I had purchased the West Bend 41027 12-Speed Electronic Stand Mixer. I was only familiar with the KitchenAid and others but this brand was new to me. I was pleased with the super packaging of he Mixer--it was well protected from damage. I have used it once so far and I believe I have gotten value for what I paid for it. I love the stainless steel bowl. A really good buy for me.
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect mixer
This mixer is just what I was looking for.I searched for several months to find a mixer that wasn't big, bulky and heavy. This one is lightweight for ease in moving and storage, but very sturdy, when in use. The weighted stainless steel bowls help keep it in place nicely.I'll never have to worry about the bowls breaking. The mixer is VERY quiet and does an excellent job mixing. With it's streamlined design, it is easy to clean. My daughter has has had this same mixer for a couple of years and has never had a problem with it.I was so happy to find it at Amazon, because it was no longer available locally.

It's great and it comes apart for easy cleaning. It can even blend up peanut butter dough with ease. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Product Info regarding gear housing upgrade from KitchenAid
Due to the very high number of complaints about the problems people were having with heavy duty tasks (which is what the mixer should have been made for!) due to cheap plastic housing holding the heavy duty metal gears, I contact KitchenAid to find out if this design flaw has been fixed. It has been and here is their response (note that they are saying that if you receive one of the models with the plastic housing they will replace it under warranty with the new metal housing. It is also important to note that the people who've had the problem have almost all stated that KitchenAid had great customer service and replaced their mixers with no ones with no problems.

Wow.The beater and dough hook are "burnished aluminum" and you CAN'T PUT EITHER ONE IN THE DISHWASHER!I have read that you can get coated ones, but people then complain that the coating comes off in the food.

It comes with a wide bowl not narrow.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent mixer and an amazing price.
I like too bake, particularly cookies and cakes.I bought this mixer because our old Sunbeam was showing its age and Vacation Bible School was coming up.Kids require lots of cckies, you know.I was not at all disappointed in this mixer. It does its job very well.I did buy the pour shield from an Amazon vendor however.I would advise anyone buying this mixer to get the pour shield. It makes the mixer so much more versatile.Just make sure to get the right one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not a Scratch
Ordered for girlfriend, the mixer came without any sign of use at all.Included the three mixer attachments, which appeared brand new, and book. Before you use the mixer be sure the bowl is pushed down and locked in the back of the stand (in addition to the two arm anchors) other the mixer will scrape and you will blemish your mixing attachments.

4-0 out of 5 stars Seems a bit flimsier than original whip
We just bought this as a replacement for one that came with the mixer almost 7 years ago. This is the right size for my model. I'm sure it will work fine (I only tried it in a dry bowl), but I'm having trouble with the seemingly lesser quality of this replacement whip. My original whip was 100% stainless steel and weighs 4.5oz. This new version has a connector socket that feels hollow, perhaps? It weighs only 3.3oz.
5-0 out of 5 stars TIME SAVER
This item is absolutely wonderful and no kitchen should be without it.For delicate meringues, this appliance takes all the work out of an otherwise laborious task.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wire Wisk Attachment
The wire whisk is a perfect example of how kitchen aid should make all their attachments. It is made of stainless steel and works perfectly for making the fluffiest meringue. It does not have that nasty white paint coating like other attahments, therefore it does not chip off into your food. This is a must have attachment to your kitchen aid! ... Editorial Review

This attachment performs the cutting and shredding duties your food processor might: select the proper cone, slip it into the plastic housing, and attach all to your stand mixer's hub with a metal shaft. You can shred potatoes, onions, nuts, and chocolate, or slice vegetables for cooking or munching. While it adds versatility to your mixer, the unit is cumbersome to disassemble--more so than KitchenAid's other nifty attachments--and its several parts make it difficult to store. Still, it's easier on your arms than manual slicing and shredding, especially for large quantities, and all parts are dishwasher-safe. Read more

Features

  • Includes two shredding cones, fine and coarse
  • Includes two slicing cones, thin and thick
  • Each works in conjunction with plastic housing and metal shaft
  • Works with all KitchenAid household stand mixers
  • Instruction book includes uses for cones and recipes

2-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money
An avid amateur chef (and gadget freak), deeply in love with my stand-mixer for baking, I thought this seemed like a good idea for our favorite quick salads like grated carrotts and apples etc. Unfortunately I am not impressed. Unless you make copious amounts of shredded veggies I think you are better off using a regular grating iron.Any time you save cranking stuff through the shredder is quickly lost on clean-up.Get a good grating iron instead, replace it when it gets dull. Be happy. My set is sitting in the back of a cabinet after only a few uses.

Nota Bene:
5-0 out of 5 stars Will it make crumbs?
I'm considering buying this item and have a question for those of you that use it. How well does the shredder make crumbs? I'm a pie maker and make a lot of graham cracker, Oreo, and vanilla wafer crumb crusts and need to replace my food processor. By the way, I use my Kitchenaid stand mixer every day and my only other accessory is the juicer. Michele at geo@yhti.net ... Read more

Editorial Review

KitchenAid's stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 300 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough; the 4-1/2-quart bowl can hold up to 8 cups of flour, which translates into as many as 192 sweet treats. This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solid in construction and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist; untwisting them is a bit trickier because the attachment stems are short and can be hard to grasp, especially if they get the least bit greasy. Standing 14 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for baking
I have been in U.S. for two years but I always struggled for finding some "good" bread living in a non-urbane location.Bread sold at the normal supermarket is surprisingly bad that I can hardly eat.So, I started baking some bread, cookies, and scones by myself and this Kitchenaid stand mixer made my life so easy.
5-0 out of 5 stars dream machine!
I had wanted a KitchenAid mixer for years,my aunt had one she had received as a wedding present in the forties,it still looked and worked great throughout the many years she used it.Apparently its still working great today.I am so happy to have received my own mixer! DO not pass up this deal! You won't regret it.My mixer came 3 days earlier than Amazon predicted. It works like brand new and looks like brand new.I made a cake and a loaf of honey-wholewheat bread,my machine ran perfectly;no problems or hitches, perfectly normal.I cannot wait for the Holiday's, I will be giving it a big workout then...My expectations were far exceeded.Thankyou Amazon and KitchenAid.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't ask for better
I waited a year before putting this review in seeing as it was refurbished. Maybe it is the luck of the draw but mine looked absolutely brand new when I recieved it and has not given me a bit of trouble at all. Heavy, solid, finely made ... this one will be with me a long time . I don't know what kind of heavy glue -like dough it would take to slow this thing down but I haven't been able to even come close .I figure if something were to go wrong it would have already so I guess I totally lucked out on this great deal. I would say to definitely give it a chance . ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Did not have a chance....
I did not have a chance to see whether it performed well or not, because it worked only for about 15 minutes.... While the turn-table is still working, the mixer is dead....

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it!
This is the best mixer ever!It works beautifully and looks great, too.If you are in the market for a mixer and don't want to deal with a heavy metal one, this is the mixer for you. I seriously love it and it looks really nice on the counter as well. The two bowls are very heavy and they are big, I'd say 4 quarts...but the unit isn't huge. This is a great mixer for the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome intro to a stand mixer!
I've been lusting after a stand mixer with dough hooks, etc. for years.I have pointed them out to my husband and told him that was what I wanted for holidays, b'days, anniversary.......etc.NEVER GOT ONE!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the mixer
Got my mixer for an x-mas gift!I love it!I've purchased several attachments to go with it.It's the best addition to my kitchen!

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than Artisan Model - Two Precautions
I was a bit reprehensive about purchasing a reconditioned unit, but it arrived like new.I've had my mixer for a few days and it has performed well. This model is a step up from the often advertised Artisan; it has ALL-metal gears and is more powerful, but unlike the professional models, maintains the tilt (hinge) feature rather than the bowl lift (see the Kitchen Aid website).I like the tilt because the lift requires you to detach the attachments before removing the bowl. The attachments and bowl can all be placed in the dishwasher except for the whisk, which is easily cleaned by hand.
4-0 out of 5 stars accolade mixer
The mixer is outstanding. When I opened the package it was in like new condition and had no Blemishes. I would buy refurbised again.

Five mixing speeds plus a stir setting means the appliance can do everything from folding cranberries into biscotti to whipping up a fluffy meringue. A professional-style bowl lift raises it easily and securely into position, even if it’s brimming with weighty dough. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Spend the extra money and get a better KitchenAid
According to KitchenAid, when you adjust the mixer it should come in contact with a dime at the bottom of the bowl. No chance with this one. When I went into my local kitchen store and asked them about adjusting the mixer for this they showed me how to do it. I went home excited, finally!
5-0 out of 5 stars 12 years and still going strong
This is the absolute best standing mixer. I bake cakes, cookies, etc... a lot and 12 years ago, my husband bought this for me for Valentines' Day. Then it was over $300, and well worth every penny. I have actually never adjusted it, it works perfectly the way it is. When we were evacuated from our home last year due to a fire, 5 days later I went back and rescued my Kitchen Aid, and guess what? Good as new! I use mine several times a week and have never had a problem with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm so disappointed
For fifteen years I've talked about getting a good stand mixer and my sweet husband went out and bought me this one. He bought it on sale at Cosco last Spring, then stored it until we moved back to the States from Europe and gave it to me as a housewarming gift in Nov.I've used it a few times but the paddle and whisk don't reach the bottom of the bowl and the screw meant for adjustment will NOT tighten any further.I can't get into the bowl at all while it is in the upward position... to scape or to add ingredients. I like to make crepes, which calls for adding sifted flour gradually over eggs while beating. It's impossible with this machine. I get a gluey mass at the bottom of the bowl, unmixed... and the batter is full of lumps. If I want to scape the bowl, (which is frequently necessary since the paddle or whisk doesn't reach all the way to the sides of the bowl) I have to stop the machine and lower the bowl each time, and even then, with the paddle or whisk attached, it's not easy to reach the sides of the bowl towards the back. You can't turn the bowl without removing it from the stand completely. You have to yank on the bowl and lift at the same time to remove it from the stand. This takes a fair amount of force to maneuver. It's impossible to remove the paddle or whisk without first letting it drop completely into the batter. The speeds are not variable enough. It seems to be either ploddingly slow or so fast that any liquid or flour flies out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Head wobbles on mixer
I bought this KitchenAid to replace one that I had only had for about 5 years and it was my second one.The first one I got was 27 years ago and it's still running great. When I first got the 2nd one, I noticed that the main head of the machine wobbled back and forth everytime I used it.I had my husband tighten it a few times, but that only helped for a short time. When it finally quit working, he took it apart and the oil had leaked inside it and formed as a big mass of jel - thick coagulated oil & grease.Anyway, the head on my new mixer wobbles just like on the other one and that worries me.Will I have the same problem in another 4 or 5 years?I know things don't last forever, but one reason I have loved KitchenAid is because I have known them to last a long, long time... certainly more than 5 years.Do the heads wobble on ALL the new models?
5-0 out of 5 stars Kitchen Aid Ultra Power Mixer-300Watt KSM90
This is the third mixed I have purchasedfrom Amazon. All have been Kitchen Aid KSM90 Mixers.I have purchased two white and one red. There is no way that you can purchased a better mixer for the money. Why buy 3?I bought the first for my wife approx. 2 years ago then several months later I purchased one for my oldest daughter as a gift, then in Jan 2006 I purchased another one for my youngest daughter as a gift. The last one is used in baking cakes, etc. for resale. All machines preform very well with no trouble. Thanks for a splendid machine.I highly recommend the KSM90 300Watt mixer over all the rest.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
Why didn't I get this before?I do not know.
