Editorial Review

Shaving off thin, even pieces of cheese with a knife can be a tricky. Hand-held cheese slicers designed to be drawn across a piece of cheese, make the task much easier. Trudeau's adjustable cheese slicer makes the job easier still, with a steel roller that creates a smooth slicing motion. The soft, rubber handle of this slicer also has a ridged thumb spot for a no-slip grip, and is slightly curved for extra leverage. Read more

  • 7-1/2- by 4-3/4-inch, hand-held, adjustable, stainless steel cheese slicer
  • Steel harp, roller, and cutting wire; 2-tone gray rubberized handle with thumb grip

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Handheld Cheese Slicer
The Trudeau Adjustable Cheese Slicer is simply the best handheld cheese slicer I've ever used. It's ergonomic, sturdy, smoothly operating, easy to adjust and easy to clean.

3-0 out of 5 stars Had high hopes for this one....
I really liked it. It's a sturdy product with a great feel.Best one I've ever had until the wire broke. No problem!!It came with an extra wire. However,no one in my family can get the new wire in place! It appears to be a smidgen (very precise term of measurement....) too short.I get one little "cube" in place, but the other doesn't stretch far enough to get into its hole.My husband & I fiddled with it for a week.I wrote to the company, asking for help.I asked if there was a trick to using the replacement wire. I also expressed an interest in purchasing extra wires (to have on hand in case it breaks again). The instructions I received was a scan of the back of the packaging, telling me how to adjust the wire for different widths. *sigh*That wasn't the problem.I also found out that they do not sell replacement wires! You only get the one that comes with it.However I commend the company for their quick reply, and for their warranty. There is a 5 year warranty, and they will replace the entire slicer if both wires break. You do have to send in the "damaged" one.It really would be a whole lot simpler if they explained how to replace the wire, and offered additional wires (free or for a nominal fee) to their customers.

1-0 out of 5 stars OVER HYPED.
ACTUALLY I WOULD NOT RATE THIS ITEM WITH ANY STARS.

Editorial Review

For fluffy, evenly sized cheese shreds, this is the perfect grater. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. For ease in resting the grater on the counter while in use, there's a hard acrylic frame around the metal. The frame also prevents scratches to your countertop. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the slightly curved grating surface makes it easy to use with oddly shaped chunks of chocolate. Carrots, onions, and medium to firm cheeses all worked beautifully with this grater. It's also an excellent choice for larger strips of citrus zest or ginger. Read more

Features

  • Patented cutting edges originally designed for shaving wood
  • Surgical-grade stainless-steel blade efficiently grates carrots, onions, and similar foods
  • Slightly curved blade makes it easy to grate oddly shaped foods
  • Ergonomic, large handle allows a firm grip
  • Dishwasher-safe

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy Microplane products if you live in Europe!
Fantastic product, but way overpriced in Europe. The company website lets you order online, but has separate websites for both USA and Europe. You can only order from USA website if you live in USA.We europeans are forced to pay highly inflated prices of more than 120% markup (i.e. more than double) that of the prices on US website, and if you search around to shop in Europe you will find prices much the same.
3-0 out of 5 stars NOT up to par
Yes, this is still an improvement over box graters. However, it is not fabulous.
5-0 out of 5 stars Go to for quick jobs
I use this for grating brick cheese whenever I need a relatively small amount -- like cheese as a garnish, not cheese as an ingredient. For big jobs, I head for the food processor.Sometimes in a moment of insanity, I whip out a box grater.I think this is a lot safer than a box grater, but maybe not as fast.

5-0 out of 5 stars GRATE-IFIC
Ginger, Garlic and Nutmeg are now my favorite additions to any of my dishes.I put fresh spices and herbs on more dishes than ever thanks to the ease of the micro fine grater! If you have never tried fresh Nutmeg, buy this tool and try it, it's 100 times tastier than that pre-pakaged stuff that sits in your pantry for years! Plus the "whole" Nutmeg lasts along time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well built - Effortless
I was looking for an electric grater, because my hands get tired very easily and grating had become a real chore. After reading reviews, I decided to give a manual grater one more try. Well, it is a pleasure to use a well-designed tool that delivers what it promises. Grating is effortless, you can produce mounds of grated cheese in no time and without hand fatigue. I bought the attachment for it, and while I have used without it for larger chunks of cheese, I recommand it for smaller pieces. The grater is very sharp(that is what makes so easy to use), and you would not want to grate the tips of your fingers with it! Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!
I wonder if the viewer who had the grater handle crack in the dishwasher didn't buy a cheap imitation grater. There are many look-alikes that are not the Microplane brand, and I would trust nothing but Microplane.I have washed mine in the dishwasher (although I prefer to quickly clean in the sink right after I use it before stuff gets dry and stuck) and I have never had any of my Microplanes break.I own every type of Microplane and they are amazing.Don't buy a discounted imitation product, when the Microplane will give you years of great use (thus saving you money in the end!) ... This easy-to-use single-panel grater transforms hard foods into finely grated textures. Because of the sharp stainless-steel blades, cheeses, chocolate, and citrus zests yield easily, and the soft, rubber handle absorbs pressure away from hands and avoids strain. The handle is also nonslip and won't budge, wet or dry. It's perfect for smaller jobs that don't require the use of a large grater, and cleanup is easy because the stainless-steel surface and rubber handle are dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. Read more

I wanted something different than a grating tower, and I got something that fits in your hand and makes it comfortable to grate!

5-0 out of 5 stars great grater
First, the grater in the above picture is not the one that showed up at my doorstep. The grater I received has a black handle, a fine grate, and does not have anything to catch food when it falls. However, it still works great!I like it most for hard cheeses and it is very sharp- watch your fingers- not a good tool for a kid to use helping out his/her mom in the kitchen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Grater!
This little grater was given to me as a wishing well gift at my bridal shower 5 years ago.I still love it!It has never failed to perform on hard cheeses or spices.Quick and easy! It's a sharp little sucker, so with some elbow grease, you're done in no time. The only thing it doesn't do well is zest, but hey...that's what zesters are for! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lots better than the cheapo off the discount store shelf
Purchased this in September after finally throwing out my old cheapo metal box grater that had rusted through. So far, no rust & I don't expect any because it is stainless steel.
4-0 out of 5 stars easy to use and less of a mess
I prefer a box grater to the flat or hand-held models. They are so much easier to use and create less of a mess if you have limited counter space to work with or are trying to get semi-exact measurments. Plus they are great with kids - my two girls love to help out with the cooking and take their job of cheese grating VERY seriously. It's so much easier to clean up after their 'help' if their work can be isolated to various containers. ... Read more

Top a steaming cup of apple cider with fresh-ground nutmeg from NorPro’s nutmeg/ginger grater. The handy tool is ideal for use with fresh nutmeg and garlic. Grate ginger for a zesty salsa, cardamom seeds for garam masala, lemon rind for pound cake, or dark chocolate to garnish a decadent torte. This nutmeg/ginger grater is just the right size to grate small amounts of hard, grateable ingredients into a bowl, saute pan, or sauce pan.It fits into the palm of my hand and is easily grabbable from the kitchen cupboard right above my mixing area. This long, slender tool makes fast work of grinding up those rock-hard chunks of fresh nutmeg. The sturdy plastic handle makes it easy to grip, while the razor-sharp stainless-steel blades do the hard work. As always with a sharp grater, be careful to keep your fingers clear--safety can be especially challenging when you're working with those slippery little spices. The Microplane spice grater also works well on nuts, dried hot peppers, ginger, and anything particularly tough or fibrous. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wondeful
I love this grater. It really shows nutmeg who's the boss. However, don't get over-confident and think you can use this for cinnamon.Cinnamon has to be ground professionally.I would also recommend using a larger model for ginger, if you have one.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great little gadget
This is a fantastic tool. It grates nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon and other hard spices with ease, and without the risk of scraping your knuckles either. It's dishwasher safe and small enough to not take up valuable kitchen space. The drawback to this gadget for me is the fact that its usefulness is limited. In my opinion, it's much too small to grate cheeses, citrus zests, chocolate etc, so I have a separate microplane to tackle those jobs. Nonetheless, it's a welcome addition to my kitchen and I'm sure it would be to yours.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best kitchen gadget you will ever buy
I hesitated for a long time before I bought one of these. I mean, really - a grater is just a grater, right?Wrong! This thing is worlds better than the standard graters I'd been using all my life. It makes grating hard cheeses (i.e., parmesan) and spices (i.e., nutmeg) so much easier it's truly amazing. I love this thing and find more uses for it all the time. A quick rinse under running water is all it needs for most cleanup. And, it's much harder to grate your own fingers with this than the old box-grater. Highly recommended! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good, with all the expected strengths and weaknesses
I got this Microplane rotary grater to replace a tired old Mouli rotary grater of a very similar design. I picked it for the famous 'Microplane' name which works so well in the form of a straight rasp shaped grater. I was also drawn to how neatly the three leaves of the holder fit so snugly together, holding the cylinder so firmly in place, unlike my wire / metal device which seemed to be in danger of falling apart with a slip of the hand.
5-0 out of 5 stars Faboo!
I just got the rotary grater and I am delighted. It is super-sharp and grates both hard and soft cheeses effortlessly. So far, I have tried it with parmesan and mozzarella. I have used both drums for the parmesan and both produce pleasing results.I like the fact that it can be used with the right or left hand. (I'm a lefty; my husband is a righty.) It also cleans well in the dishwasher.

With its 3-by-4-1/2-inch convex face, this 10-inch grater is ideal for Parmesan or other hard cheeses. It also grates potatoes for crusty potato pancakes, carrots for a classic Bolognese sauce, and onions for fresh salsa. Oxo's Steel line is an all-stainless-steel variant of the company's familiar fat-handled Good Grips line. Rather than being straight-sided, this tool's handle is tapered from heel to finger grip and has satin-finish, stainless-steel panels top and bottom. The handle's sides feature the same design as those in the Good Grips line--they're made of soft processed rubber for comfort, with"fins," or grooves, that flex under pressure, conforming to individual finger grips and providing control when handles are wet or slippery. Like all Oxo tools, this grater is dishwasher-safe; a hole in its handle facilitates hanging on a hook or peg. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great (No Pun Intended) Product From Oxo!
I got tired of dragging out my trusty box grater to do small jobs like grating nutmeg, ginger or Parmagiana Reggiano so I picked this little gem up. It feels good in your hand (no surprise there...it's what Oxo is known for)is well-made and cleans up beautifully...every time. It is so easy now just to grab this guy and grate what needs to be grated that I find I am using whole spices more and more. Grab yourself one of these...you'll love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid and dependable...
I've owned this for about a year after having literally tossed out the Black & Decker Gizmo Grater I had purchased and owned for barely 2 weeks. It's a simple "microplane" style grater, pretty much, which shreds cheese more than it grates (Not too fine) quickly and easily. The grip is perfect for no slip grating. It works well on hard cheese, carrots, and plenty of other things. I've even used it to grate cheddar (refrigerate it first!) and it worked great. To clean it, I just knock it one time against the sink to get the excess out (It never sticks) and put it in the dishwasher. The knocking hasn't hurt it a bit. Unlike the Gizmo, this does exactly what it's supposed to! Epecially at the new Clearance price of less than $9, I certainly recommend it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for lefties
The right-handed folks in my family like this little gadget and manage to get nice, fluffy Parmesan out of it, but my daughter and I are left-handed and find it very awkward to turn the crank.I wish you could screw it together both ways for lefties and righties. Also, I think it would be much more durable and work better when the cheese block gets small if it was made of metal parts instead of plastic.

2-0 out of 5 stars A big dissapointment
If you're of Italian heritage and you grate a lot of cheese, don't waste your time with this one. When the quantity of cheese in the grater gets low, it tends to be very difficult to turn.It also didn't last as long as I expected.Try a different one instead.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sorry I bought it
This grater is fine when you can get it to work, but most often the handle doesn't screw in correctly and you can't get it to. It's mostly a waste of time, though the concept is a great one. I'd recommend trying maybe a stainless steel one instead of this plastic one. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Tossed mine
I only used mine once, then tossed it. Wish I would have read these reviews first!Thought it looked good at Kohls.I liked that the grates can be seperated to wash... they do, but it takes a lot of force.Feels like you're going to break them. I should have returned it but I was mad at it and trashed it.. at least it was marked 15% off (still higher than here though).
1-0 out of 5 stars Way too flimsy!
Most of the OXO products hold up but this grater broke grating cheddar cheese. After writing this review, I'm going to order an all metal grater.

A good idea, but after only a few uses, the plastic started cracking and finally just broke completely. ... Read more

It is definitely good to have whole nutmeg in food--it's spicy and delicious and adds a twist to pepper in soups. However, you can use a microplane grater to do a better job than this thing. It's cheap plastic and when the nutmeg gets ground up halfway, it's hard to grind it down further because the spring mechanism is pretty unsophisticated and weak. The microplane is cheaper, more useful, and works great. However, if you want another gadget, get this.Hey--I did !

5-0 out of 5 stars You didn't know you needed this
I adore the one I have. The oils in nutmeg get lost very soon after grating so the diff between fresh ground and pre ground is huge. Now I am a klutz and allways scraped my knuckles and finger tips using the old box grater kind. With this a few twists and you have lovely little shavings of fresh nutmeg that can scent the whole room, no muss no fuss no blood. If you cook or bake you will wonder how you got by with out it. (just a twist in coco or spinich will make a wonderful taste treat) and if you have a "Foodie" on your gift list and want a cool gift under $25 this is it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

With 27, sharp, 1/3-inch-diameter blades, this coarse kitchen grater from Cuisipro is ideal for softer cheeses such as mozzarella and cheddar--making it the perfect pizza or quesadilla tool. Its flat, functional surface measures 3 by 5 inches, and elevates slightly to create room for the accumulation of shreds below. A rubber-coated base keeps the device from slipping during use, while an accompanying plastic guard covers blades during storage. Constructed of durable stainless steel, the dishwasher-safe gadget includes an ergonomic handle and convenient hanging hook. The tool comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Read more
