Editorial Review

When set on low for all-day simmering, this cooker from the makers of the original Crock Pot slowly tenderizes meat, turning even budget cuts into juicy meals. A modest 3-1/2-quart size, the oval-shaped crock holds enough chicken, beef, stew or soup for two to three people. The temperature knob has three settings: off, low, and high. The crock, which lifts from the base for cleaning, features a rinse-clean, lifetime stick-resistant coating. As long as extreme changes in temperature are avoided, such as placing in cold water when hot, the crock should give years of service. Both the crock and lid are dishwasher-safe. A one-year warranty covers this slow cooker from defects. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great slow cooker
I bought this smaller crock pot as I also have a 6 quart Crock Pot and sometimes the 6 quart is too big for some of my recipes. It works great and cleans up very easily. I think the removable stoneware was one of the best things they have done to improve the Crock Pot. I am a loyal Rival customer and have always been pleased with their products.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for lentils and Indian dhal cooking
This is very good for Indian dhals and lentil cooking. With pressure cookers, there are spilling and foaming problems when you cook Indian dhals, and the kitchen needs to be cleaned constantly. The slow cooker does not have that probelm.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful kitchen appliance
I bought a large slow cooker from amazon and ordered this smallermodel about a week later -- it's a handy size for smaller dishes. It's an ideal design. And it turns out incredible oatmeal! Among many other dishes. It's the perfect size for a three- or four-pound chicken.

Versatile and convenient, this 6-quart pot can be used on thestovetop for cooking soup or stew, go into the oven for roasting achicken or baking a casserole, and placed on its 210-watt heating basefor slow-cooking a pot roast or keeping food warm while serving. A lift-out rackis included for keeping food off the bottom so it can be thoroughlybrowned during roasting. The pot's glass lid permits cooking to bemonitored without releasing heat, and the lid's knob stays cool on thestovetop. For easy cleanup, the pot, lid, and rack are dishwasher-safe.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Brown and slow cook in the same pan?
This slow cooker is a step above the rest. You can sauté meat in the pan to brown it on your stove, then add the "slow cook" ingredients and liquid and let it go on the slow cooker base. They claim that you can use the base as a grill, but I've never tried that part.
2-0 out of 5 stars Watch out for that non-stick coating!
I purchased this slow cooker because it has such a good review from flylady.com.
1-0 out of 5 stars temperature settings don't work
Had high hopes for this slow cooker based on Amazon reviews, but based on my first attempt (buffalo stew) this device should be renamed "fast cooker".All four temperature settings resulted in overcooking.Even at the "keep warm" setting the stew continued to boil, so the stew turned into mush.Don't buy it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY A TRUE "SLOW" COOKER
After trying (and returning) several slow cookers which both overcooked the food on low heat, I purchased this West Bend 84765 model.Put together some potatoes, chicken thighs, broccoli, carrots, etc.Left on LOW for 10 hours....vegetables were juicy and flavorsome...chicken was fall-off-the-bone moist. This is the way a slow cooker should cook....everything should turn out tender and juicy. Thanks for all of your opinions on this site, which convinced me to purchase this wonderful slow cooker!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cooking
I just love my new pot.I can cook, braise, saute and slow cook all in the same pot.I love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product!
Purchased this slow cooker after my other one bit the dust. This is an EXCELLENT slow cooker--it looks small in the package, but holds more than you think. The teflon coating is perfect for easy cleanup--aluminum container is light to pick up and move (with oven mits). I've not used the bottom as a griddle, but purchased this as a true slow cooker. I've done chili, soups, meats and am very pleased. Watch the temperature controls until you get used to them. The tote is a bonus-easy to store that way and keep it unscratched, but I've not transported anything. I've tried several slow cookers and this is simply the best design and performance. Light, easy to clean, fairly large (mid-size roasts) capacity. You shouldn't be disappointed if you buy one. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars What is the world coming to...???
Why do manufacturers always have to change a good thing?
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for New Users
I have never owned a crock pot before, so I was a little apprehensive.I did a lot of research and finally settled on this item because of size, price and shape of the unit.I am extremely happy with the product. It is perferct for a first time user - not too complicated, but has eveything you need to make the most basic or more complicated recepies. It did not smell at all on first use (many pots have that reputation). It is very attractive and fits nicely on my countertop. The inner ceremic part is very sturdy and cleans up very easily.I do recommend for first-time users that you purchase one good cookbook (many are carried on Amazon).I purchased several, and my favorite so far is "The Gormet Slow Cooker"I have tried several recepies and they were all perfect.I am converted to crock-pot cooking!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Money
Very nice unit.Looks and cooks great.Nice size. Can handle just about anything you wish to cook.Thought I would miss having three cooking temps to choose from...only has Low and High, but two are more than enough to do anything required. And do them very well.Have made many different bean soups, rice, stews and a soup with TWO chickens and so on, all cooked to perfection.Happy cooking.... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Loved it, for a while
I bought this cooker seven months ago, and really liked it.It's quite handsome, and I have no complaints about how it works.I've made many fine meals in it.Sadly, the knob broke a few weeks or a month ago.I glued it back together, but today it broke apart again.I don't think it will take a second gluing any better than the first, so now if I want to use it I have to use pliers or something, and I have to count clicks--which are not as distinct as I'd like--to know quite which setting it's on.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent slow cooker
I'm a big slow cooker fan, and had a huge GE unit, which worked well until the lid broke. I quickly got this Hamilton Beach one from Amazon, and I'm very satisfied. No fancy stuff, just a basic cooker, but it serves that purpose very well. The quantity is just right for a dish for four. And it looks good too, with the exposed steel exterior and black crock. For this price, this is the best I can find.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice size for single person or small roasts
I am happy with the small size. Most slow cookers are 6 quart. This 4 quart one satisfies my needs while taking up less space.I have only tried it once, and my roast turned out dry, mainly because I need to learn how to make a pot roast!

5-0 out of 5 stars don't buy a rival type-low, med., high setting cooker
Having used and worn out a West Bend slow cooker that I received 30 years ago, I shopped locally for a new one, and, being unable to find one, bought a Rival 3 heat setting crock. Is is a crock, as you cannot slow cook at normal low heat levels, it cooks to hot and fast. Finally, located the cooker I want here, with the variable heat setting, and I'm back in business. Local stores are loaded with worthless cookers. If you really want to "slow cook", buy one of these West Bend cookers, there is nothing else like it that I've been able to find.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a slow cooker that actually cooks slowly!
I read many reviews before I purchased this, as we have a Rival crockpot that cooks way too fast even on low. I discovered that many of the Rivals simply control the temperature by cooking on the high setting and turning off occasionally to let it cool for the "low" setting. The problem is that they don't always turn off long enough to slow the cooking.
5-0 out of 5 stars West Bend 84755 5-Quart Oblong Slow Cooker, White
Superb product. This is an newer model of a West Bend slow cooker that I had used for years to slow cook roasts. It is slightly larger than the older modeland is greatly improved by having a glass lid. It is my favorite cooking utensil.

Editorial Review

If you've ever had a slow-cooked chicken, you'll no doubt remember the savory juices dribbling down your chin. Similar to a crockpot, a slow cooker uses a low-watt heating system to gradually bring your meal to excellence, and you don't have to hover over it as the food cooks. This stainless-steel version from Faberware features a tempered-glass lid and an oval-shaped pot that can accommodate larger cuts of meat--even a whole chicken--easily. Measuring 11 by 15 by 13-1/2 inches, this cooker doesn't take up much counter space and frees up burners, a must when preparing holiday dinners and buffets. Although not a requirement, you can add to the overall succulence of your slow-cooked dishes by stirring them a few times as they cook. Nothing is better than juices drizzled over the top of a chicken while it lazes in the pot. Read more

  • Oval shape accommodates larger cuts of meat--even a whole chicken
  • Frees up burner space--perfect for preparing holiday dinners
  • Stainless-steel construction allows for easy cleanup

5-0 out of 5 stars What's not to love?
This thing works great. It cooks slowly what else? I put roasts, ribs, pork shoulder, anything that needs a long time to cook, and 6-7 hours later its done. I work nights and I start the dinners in the morning and by dinnertime my family has a great hot meal. They are shocked at how tender and delicious tough cuts of meat become. They just have a hard time not lifting the lid to dig in before its done! I don't require any fancy attachments for it yet, so I am totally satisfied. Recommended by Cook's Illustrated and rightly so.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent slow cooker!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Slow Cooker I've Owned!

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware, outer shell, may melt!!!!
I recently purchased this product. The first time I used it, I thought it worked great.I made a pot of chili and let it cook until we were ready to eat it that night. The second time I used it, things were not as good. The outer shell where the controls are were literally melting.I had programmed this to cook for 10 hours while I went to work.I came home that night and the hours had not changed. I realized I didn't click the on/off button to start heating the cooker. This may have saved a house fire.I went ahead and changed the time from 10 to 4 hours. This set the unit to high instead of the original low setting. Not 15 minutes after turning on, the outer covering was melting.I immediately shut it off.I see the 4 quart units were recalled back in 2004 for similar issues.Whatever their problem, it has not been fixed.Be aware of this serious problem when using your slow cooker.I am returning mine and will exchange for a different brand.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's attractive and very cool to the touch. But don't break the liner!!!!!
I use a crock pot 3 to 5 days a week and this pot has been great. I travel with it usually 3 days a week so the bag has been very useful.(Always use two hands and do not swing!) I discovered that you must criss-cross the straps inside or the lid may fall into the pot and spill. You should know that the pot cooks on high for 1-6 hours or high for 7-10 hours. The level and time are not independent of each other. It has cooked well with no surprises.I recently broke the liner and was able to replace it for a reasonable price through Select Brands. The pot is not associated with Corningware and they are completely unable to assist with any questions or further customer service.I would give it a five, if I could select time and temperature independently. It is also a large pot which is great but it means that I keep a 3 quart pot for just meat dishes because a slow cooker must always be at least half full.
4-0 out of 5 stars corningware slow cooker does a good job
I found that the cooker has a slightly higher temperature than most, so things cooked faster than I had planned. The special feature of being able to set the # of hours for slow cooking is more of a nusiance than a benefit.I wish , instead, that there was a feature that would start off a dish for a few hours at high and then switch to low automatically.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breville SLC70XL Gourmet Slow Cooker
After reviewing every slow cooker advertised on the internet I felt Gourmet Slow Cooker (5.3-qt.) by Breville was definitely the best. It was more expensive but well worth it. It turned out to be even better than I expected. A beautiful appliance to look at and top quality construction. The glass lid does not leak at all when cooking . I keep it on my kitchen counter at all times. I use my Breville at least five times a week. There are no hot spots.Everything cooks very evenly. The first day it came I cooked a whole chicken in it. It turned out wonderful. From that point on I knew this was the best choice. I was so impressed with the cord plug having a hole for fingers to easily plug in and remove. Wish more appliances would learn from Breville! Thank you for selling this superior product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Slow Cooker

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pot!!
I love this slow cooker. I read all the reviews and wasn't sure I wanted this pot but when I read other reviews they had just as many complaints.
2-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful item but not functional
I researched a lot before buying this slow cooker. I have a Nesco roaster that I love and use often. I needed a large slow cooker. I started researching. Started out with the all clad but everyone said it got really hot. I wanted a good one. The Cuisinart had good ratings elsewhere and I thought well even it cooks faster that is fine. I will just watch it until I get used to it and go from there. Every dish I have watched..they all cooked in LESS than half the allotted time. Today I made a crock pot mac and cheese casserole and it burned within ONE HOUR. Way too hot. I called Cuisinart several times and they said I may have a defective unit. Well I doubt it. I just think it runs hot. I really was dismayed because I love the size and the design of this cooker. Really was not up to par with Cuisinart products that I know and love.
4-0 out of 5 stars not so slow
Bought this after looking at quite a lot of other options, and after reading all these reviews (thanks guys!) - $99 isn't necessarily cheap for a slow cooker.

Ideal for a large family or a dinner party, this round CrockPot from Rival is cleanly designed and simple to operate. One dial turns to three heat settings, low, high, and keep warm for serving, and a red light indicates the power is on. The heavy stoneware crock lifts out of the heating base for easy cleaning thanks to a stick-resistant coating, and is attractive enough to serve from right at the table. While the crock is safe for use in the microwave and dishwasher, it is not intended for use on a stovetop or under a broiler.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars priced to performance
Very good crock pot indeed! Wish it had a timer though, and also the crock tends to cook food at the bottom better than the top, so my advice is place the meat in the bottom layers and the veggies on top. Works great!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Gift I Ever Received
My roomie gave this to me when my old crockpot died over a year ago.I absolutely love this one.I use it at least once a week, if not more often. As a busy student who works full-time, this is perfect for me.No muss, no fuss. The removeable crock makes cleanup easy.I couldn't have asked for a better gift for making cooking on a very busy schedule easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Product
I've had it for about a year now and it has worked very well. I've used it for rice, chicken, pork, meatballs and vegetables and everything tasted great. 5-0 out of 5 stars perfect for small whole-grain meals ready when you need them

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Indian cooking for dhals, biriyani & more
A friend gave this as a gift to me, and I did not use it for over 6 months. Once I did, I was pleasantly surprised at how well this slow cooker cooks lentils. I put the lentils with the water into the pot in the morning, and have cooked lentils for dinner.
5-0 out of 5 stars Uniquely Useful Little Crockpot -- consider its possibilities!
This is a lovely little crockpot whose small size makes it uniquely useful for a number of purposes. I've owned larger crockpots for a couple decades (currently a 6 quart Rival Smartcooker is my mainstay for preparing family-size meals), but the larger pots take up a significant amount of counter space & aren't at all useful for heating or re-heating small quantities. This little crockpot, however, is perfect for heating or re-heating 2-4 servings of soup or stew. I originally bought it, however, because it is *absolutely perfect* for making hot cereal on cold mornings, especially those hot cereals that require more than a few minutes of cooking in the microwave or on the stovetop, such as steel-cut oatmeal (try the nutty goodness of traditional steel-cut oatmeal once (also available here at Amazon) & you're unlikely ever to return to instant or "quick cook" oatmeal again). There is nothing nicer on a cold winter morning than walking into the kitchen & knowing that a healthy, delicious hot breakfast is awaiting you. From mid-October to late-March, virtually every night I prepare my entire family's hot breakfast cereal for the next morning in this little crockpot, with no more effort than is required to make single serving of instant oatmeal or cream of wheat in the microwave.

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS SLOW COOKER IS AWFUL!COOKS TOO HOT
Slow Cookers should do just that....slowly cook over a long period of time without the meat/chicken/etc. drying out. Both times I used it resulted in overly cooked chicken and beef on the LOW setting. The juices were boiling, which shouldn't be the case on LOW heat.It will be returned...I'm planning on replacing it with the West Bent 84765.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cooker for the $ and travel
I have owned many slow cookers; all which were given to me, also they were typically hand me downs. This is the first cooker that I have actually bought. For me, this cooker does a great job, it does not cook any better or worse than the other cookers I have had, but it is larger and has a few nice features. 1, it has a sealed lid than can be tightly connected for travel (the other night we moved 5 quarts of hot pasta sauce to my sister-in-law's house. There was sauce all over the inside of the lid, but none of the sauce made it out). 2, It comes with a plastic spoon; nothing special about the spoon, but it attaches to the lid for travel. 3, there is a lid rest that allows you to set the lid to the side without setting it on your counter. 4, the side handles have a rubber coating , are securely attached and extend quite a way from the side of the cooker (which is good because it gets hot). This cooker did not come with the carry case, but there are versions that do. Those versions cost more than the $28.00 that this one cost me.

5-0 out of 5 stars crockpot love
Umm I think this is the same one I have! When it comes to quart sizes it's all the same to me, haha. Anyway, I love my lil crockpot. It's one of those nifty items that has so many uses, you can have it for a long time and still discover something new it can do. I've cooked all kinds of things in this. Beans are a dream to make now; I don't even soak them anymore, just toss them in with some water and they're good to go.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolute Wonder!
I had one of these for over 10 years and it never gave me a day's trouble. The only reason I purchased a new one was that the old model did not have a removable crock.Fantastic addition to the small family's kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars TASTY FOOD GREAT CROCKPOT
Just bought this crockpot this weekend or actually on Black Friday 2003, it was inexpensive and it is a great way for me to learn how to cook for one instead of making large meals and having to freeze a ton of food.Read more

If you're looking for a small slow cooker for dips, appetizers, whatever, this is it. It's got 2 of the most important features to look for in a slow cooker, a removable crock and a keep warm setting. I don't know why, but these features are kind of hard to find on smaller crock pots.I have another one this size that only has an on and off setting with no removable crock. It will never be used again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Slow Cooker for Two
This is just great for 2 person family, you can cook just the amount you need without a lot of left overs. It will also handle food for 3-4. Any more than that you best drag out the big one.
4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for dips
This crock is great, just the right size to keep dips warm. The 3 settings keep whatever your keeping warm from scorching. The removable crock is a breeze to clean. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Hats off to the designers of appliances that perform multiple functions! After all, what kitchen couldn't benefit from more efficient use of limited space? The Krups FDH212 10-cup automatic rice cooker is also a slow cooker and a food steamer; select among those three modes and then, if necessary, set the time using the touch buttons on the control panel. The time counter shows remaining cooking time on a two-digit display. After cooking in any mode, the Krups rice cooker will shift to a keep-warm mode; the switch-over is noted by an orange indicator light on the control panel. In its most basic function, this rice cooker yields up to 20 cups of cooked rice. But it's also useful for all the typical slow-cooker dishes; soups, stews, chili, etc. An enclosed booklet includes recipes that range from the home-style Yankee Pot Roast to the fancier Casablanca lamb and apricot stew, as well as including simple cooking instructions for rice. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great machine
I've had this gadget for about a month and it's been great.I really appreciate how easy it is to make rice. This is my first rice-maker and I didn't realize a few things about them, which I offer for other newbies.First, they're pretty tough to clean.Cooking juices get into the lid areas, the rim around the bowl, the hinge between the body and the lid, and around the steam vent.It takes me too long to clean the whole apparatus each time, so it can get to look a little crusty after a couple uses.Second, I've had to experiment with using the automatic rice-cooker for brown rice and other grains since the cooking instructions included haven't yielded great results.Last, cooking small amounts is tricky in terms of measuring the water correctly and preventing overcooking on the bottom of the rice.Krups' gadget is no exception on the last issue -- the bottom layer consistently gets a bit brown on the "keep warm" setting. But, all that being said, I still award five stars to the Krups machine!I eat rice much more frequently now that I have the machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great rice cooker/ steamer
I've had this item since June 2005. I primarily use it as a rice cooker and a steamer, and it always performs very well. Definitely makes my life easier as the cook!

5-0 out of 5 stars This has become a favored item in my kitchen
I am very, very happy with this item.I have had it since last June, and it has become a cherrished "kitchen companion".I get fast, great tasting rice every time. The slow cooker function is a wonderful time saver.I just put my ingredients in the pot in the morning, set the timer, and by dinner time I have a delicious, hot meal.I'm glad I made this purchase. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Kitchen Staple
I have had this Multi-Cooker for years, and I still love it. I started out using it to steam clams and crab legs. Then I went on to use it as a stock pot - it's great for quickly reducing to freezable size.I recently have found a great hot wings sauce (Ken's) and have been using my true-blue multi-cooker as a fryer, and it is working out great. I just love this thing. It is easy to clean up.It's light and easy to handle. It heats up quickly and has had no technical problems. I love being able to tell what temperature I am cooking on (can set degrees - not just high medium or low temps) and be able to see through the glass lid at how the contents are doing. This is definitely a kitchen must-have.

4-0 out of 5 stars presto 6003 cooker
wonderful, versatile product. have some problems with the magnetic electrical connection(easily disconects)

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice in many ways
I bought this for my wife and I to use a few months ago.We were looking for something to cook in that was between the 4qt. and 8qt. size.At first I just wanted a new pot, then when I saw this I took a chance - and I'm glad I did!We use this almost every day.I have slow-cooked meats in it, cooked pasta, casseroles and soups along with dozens of other items.I don't often deep fry, but the few times that I have I have enjoyed this cooker.I especially like the extra room it offers over most "dedicated fryers".
