These scissors are pathetic
OK -- I bought these because of the amazing reviews these were getting.Boy, am I disappointed.These didn't just break... they actually fell apart in my wife's hands.My wife wasn't doing anything particularly interesting with them when they fell apart.I don't think this would be so disappointing if they didn't fall apart within the first day of getting these.Get some Fiskars.

I bought this set of scissors about 6 years ago and they work just as perfectly now as the day I bought them!I reach for them CONSTANTLY!The variety of sizes is wonderful.Yes, the handles may be plastic but that does not mean they wear out or break - they are very durable. They've stayed sharp, they are easy to clean, they have not loosened at all where the joint is located and the larger scissors are very sturdy and strong! Beware cheap imitations
I have had these shears for 15 years and have put them through the dishwasher, never sharpened them, and they still work great.I have used them for in the kitchen, for crafts, to gardening (for extensive gardening get Felco pruners as these shears give me blisters if I cut thick stalks for too long...).

Who Knew??!
This is my third pair of kitchen shears.The first was $10 and lasted a week.I thought the second pair was just fine until my Shun shears arrived.These cut well and are also very smooth while cutting.They fit my hand nicely. I can really feel the difference in quality.These can perform different functions -- opening bottles, jar opener, nut cracker -- one blade has a curve in it to accomodate bone.I love that they are dishwasher safe.

I ordered this item because I know Wusthof has a reputation for quality. I find the kitchen shears sturdy and sharp; especially appreciated are the easy-separation feature of the blades for washing and the handy lid-gripper for opening jars and bottles.

Excellent Kitchen Shears
These W�sthof Grand Prix Kitchen Shears are an excellent addition to one's collection of quality knives and kitchen tools. I keep these kitchen scissors handy by storing them in a W�sthof oak wooden slant knife block that has a special slot for them. I use them almost every day for household tasks - from opening plastic bags and cardboard boxes to cutting cheesecloth for making bouquet garni or waxed-paper rounds for lining cake tins. The handles are ergonomic, so that your hand doesn't get cramped when using them, and hygenic, so that they can be kept sanitized, since they're made from one piece of specially-molded plastic, which is the same plastic as the handles of W�sthof Grand Prix knives. I wash my kitchen shears by hand, dry them immediately, and place them back in the knife block, so they stay relatively sharp in between professional sharpenings. They are made in Germany from the same high-carbon, no-stain steel as the W�sthof Classic and Grand Prix lines of knives. The only drawback that I've found with these kitchen shears is that they are slightly bulky to use, as compared to Joyce Chen kitchen scissors, which I use for snipping herbs from the garden. The Joyce Chen scissors never seem to need sharpening, and they hold a keener edge than these shears. Also, I don't use these W�sthof kitchen shears for cutting up poultry; I prefer using my J. A. Henckels chrome-plated poultry shears for that task. All in all, these kitchen shears are a good kitchen tool that will last a long time, and they are safe for use by older children, too. ... Cuts Great, but Poor Handling
Pro: The shears do a great job cutting through everything I've needed (plastic & paper bags, cardboard, etc.). They're definitely razor sharp, and come with a nice blade guard which I think is important.
Cannot use
I wanted to add a second pair of kitchen shears to my life as I use them for so much (my first pair is a Henckel's).What a disappointment!This is actually the first item I have returned to Amazon (and I've been ordering from them for years).The place to put your fingers in handle is so big that is was very uncomfortable to use and the blades seemed 'to go too far' (hope you know what I mean).Anyway, totally unusable to me.

Surprisingly good kitchen shears
I used to sell cutlery and own a range of knives myself, so I have tried many cutlery products from many different brands. In 2003, I bought these Calphalon Contemporary shears since I did not own a pair of shears. Before I purchased these, I tried a pair of Henckels Twinshear kitchen shears, and felt that they were not as strong and sharp as I would have liked. I was a little worried about the quality of these shears since they were made in China rather than in Germany or Japan, even though newer brands such as Calphalon and Furi are now making far better cutlery than has ever before been made in China. After over a year of using these, I am quite impressed with them. The handles are very comfortable, and the blades are stronger and sharper than the aforementioned Henckels shears. Most impressively, the blades show very little wear, despite the fact I have certainly used them quite often. Also, the handles on these are far better compared to those on the Calphalon Traditional and Stainless shears. Great for Trimming Artichokes, Cutting Wrapping Paper, or Clipping Coupons
These scissors are just like most other utility scissors, except for two features that I find very valuable.
Don't waste your money.
I purchased these kitchen scissors based on the Oxo brand name. They worked great the first couple of times, but dulled very quickly. Also, I experienced the same problem as other reviewers, where the red latch will try to close during use. With a toddler into everything at home, I like the safety feature of the latch, but it's very awkward during use. Finally, cleaning these scissors leaves much to be desired. The blades don't come apart, so the only way to really get them clean is in the dishwasher. After about three washes, I noticed some rust spots on the blades! I'm going to follow the advice of other reviewers, and spend a little extra money for a better product.

Faulty design
After a month of trying to use these for poultry I tossed them. The first time I used them the nut holding the blades together loosened. If you know scissors, once this starts you might as well forget it. After one cut I would have to try to tighten the thing, usually with hands greasy from handling the bird.
