5-0 out of 5 stars Love, Love, Love It!!
Fabulous machine!Super quick learning curve -- easy to thread (color coded) and so easy to sew with.Everything I make now looks so professional! How did I ever get by without it!I must admit, I was a little scared to buy a serger with all the comments about how hard they are to thread, let alone use, but it's not true with this machine.I would recommend it highly. My friend looks at her Singer "Baby Lock" machine with total disdain now...She wants a Brother like mine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great overlock serger - but there are some things it won't do
I think if you're looking at this machine, you're either a) new to serging or b) impressed by the price and interested in the quality.I'm completely new to sergers, but I did my homework before buying this one, and for the price and the performance, this serger has a perfect balance.
5-0 out of 5 stars a satisfied cusomer
I AM ALMOST 79 YEARS OLD SO I FELT I WOULD NOT NEED AN EXPENSIVE SERGER SINCE I HAVE TIMES I AM NOT ABLE TO SEW.BUT I WANTED ANOTHER SERGER THAT WAS EASIER TO THREAD. I HAD A WHITE 523 -I THINK. SO AGGRAVATING TO TRY TO THREAD. AND IT KEPT MESSING UP AND THE LOCAL SEWING MACHINE SHOP CHARGES $40 PER HOUR--AND EVEN IF THEY COULD FIX IT IN ONE HOUR WITH NO PARTS NEEDED I JUST HATED TO RISK EVEN THAT MUCH ON IT. SO AFTER WEEKS OF RESEARCHING PRICES AND THE REST - ON THE NET I SAW THAT AMAZON HAD THE BROTHERS SERGER FOR $200 AND LITTLE IF ANY COST FOR SHIPPING.IT IS A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH IT ON MY SMALL PROJECTS. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good gift
I bought this as a gift for my wife. It has excellent, easy-to-use functions, and is a great starter sewing machine. I did not, however, get it from Amazon - I'll come back in a year and tell you whether it's broken, because that's all you get for a warranty on the parts from Singer, so I went with Sears for service.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful machine!
I am very pleased with my new machine. It sews wonderfully and has so many different settings- I have not tried them all yet!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic sewing machine, great service!!
Despite the review above, I ordered this machine because it has all the features I wanted, AND there was a $25.00 dollar off special.I had seen the exact machine for sale at a very reputable store and decided to take advantage of the deal at Amazon.Firstly, the service was impeccable, I received it in 2 days, free shipping (amazon prime member) and got the exact machine I ordered.

5-0 out of 5 stars delightful machine, super easy to use
This machine is very similar to the popular CS 6000 that's sold both here in Amazon and in Walmart. In fact they both use the same manual. The difference between the 2 are: CS6000 has an start/stop button so you can operate the machine w/o foot pedal, quilting accessories such as walking foot and larger table extension, needle up/down button, faster bobbin winding, 2 speeds, a hard cover and some extra fancy stitches. I don't care about these missing features. I sewed my own cloth cover using left over fabric. To me this little machine has all the functionality that I ever wanted from a sewing machine. All the utility stitches are there - sewing buttons and button holes (1-step), zippers, elastic, overlock, zig zag, satin, blah blah blah - everything you need to sew a dress or a pillow case, plus more. If you quilt a lot buy the CS6000 one. Threading is super easy because the direction is printed right on the machine. The automatic needle threader is very helpful. I use it every time. My only complaint is that the thread tends to slip out of the needle hole unless I leave a very long "tail". This happened w/ CS6000 too when I tried it at a friend's house. With both models you can specify if the needle is left up or down when sewing stops. Both needs no oiling (probably mostly plastic parts?) I haven't sewed very heavy fabric yet. The LED light is very dim but cool. You definitely need a real lamp nearby. You can leave the machine on for a long time because the light uses very little energy. If you do turn it off, all the custom stitch settings will be lost (no memory). So far I am very happy with this machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't worry, I've done all the looking for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yay!

This machine is a good price, and is lightweight. I find that it is very quiet, and does not have the problems such as thread binding up or becoming tangled.
2-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality
Right out of the box, the machine was missing the zigzag presser foot. I called Brother and they said I had to contact the retailer. When I finally got the foot, the machine was inoperable. I never even got to sew anything! I purchased a Singer 1507 and I am very pleased.

This is a great case for the money. It is perfect for storing. Worth the money as many of the cases are a bit more expensive. Made of heavy flexible plastic similar to Tupperware. Great for keeping dust off.

Structured to fit any free-arm sewing machine and most sergers, this Brother universal carrying case offers protection and easy transport for home sewing appliances. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great case; it fits everything
This case is really good, it fits my 1034D Brothe serger very nicely. The only thing I wish it has, is a compartment below the sewing machine, like with a little trap door or something. but other than that, its great, and it does its job well

1-0 out of 5 stars Brother 5300 Universal Sewing Machine Carrying Case
Do not bother to buy this sewing machine case.It is crappy!Don't be fooled by the "Universal" phrase of this product.I have a Brother sewing machine so i bought this item. When i got it, i placed my sewing machine and i rattles around inside the case.I don't see what is so "Universal" about this. There is too much room inside and my machine tips over to its sides when i lift to carry the case. It's terrible!!!I'd give NO star but i don't have that choice on the selection.I wanted to return it but it's not worth the shipping charge that will incure on my refund due to Amazon's policies.By then i would probably only get at most $12.00 back in refunds.

1-0 out of 5 stars not too disappointed
The machine is less than $40 so my expectations were in line with that (cheap), however it never really seemed to stitch, at least, I thought it would stitch even the simplest items, and I only used it about 5 time sin a year, but it didn't, and it would stick on every job, it was frustrating. It eventually broke, and I was sorry to say it still looked brand new, and that was the shame of it - it was too cheap to fix, and I was forced to throw it away.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke
We bought three of these machines for a classroom quilt project. They were so poorly made that I am returning all three to buy ONE machine that costs a little more. You are much better off going with a more expensive machine- this one is very cheap in every sense of the word.

2-0 out of 5 stars A LOT smaller than picture
I was disappointed with the size of the actual product because it was like a toy for my younger granddaughters. Kayla and Tarra are 13, and they love my sewing machine so I thought I would buy them one for their birthdays. I wish I had paid more attention to the actual measurements because I would not have made this purchase! They both had problems getting it to sew because the thing would not make a real stitch! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Can't Do The Job
We were full-time RVers, and had need for a sewing machine at times, but no room. We thought a little hand held like this would be able to mend or hem the occasional garment. We were wrong. My husband could get it to work a few times, but I never had any luck with it. The stitches were too loose, or the thread would break. It wasn't the tension, since it was left alone once my husband got it to work. It proved to be a better source of frustration than just mending or hemming by hand.

1-0 out of 5 stars Frustrated
I have to admit that I have never used a hand machine before, however I am familiar with sewing machines.I am a very patient person and spent hours on end trying to use it to do some basic hemming on the go.After days and days trying to adjust the tension, I have finally given up.This thing frustrated me to no end and has effectively scared me enough that I am extremely tentative about buying a new (non-portable) machine. The price clearly reflects its quality.I would rather buy a new shirt with my $30 than waste it on this useless piece of plastic. ... All I've done so far is make alterations on a shirt (basically sewing seams and hems) but it seems to work fine. I haven't used a sewing machine in at least 10 years but this machine was pretty easy to use and I set it up pretty quickly. If I had never touched a machine before I don't think the instructions would have made sense to me, though.

Arrived quickly after ordered. Easy to use. Many options for stitching available. Great beginner machine for someone who wants to learn to sew, do projects or make repairs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this product
I purchased this machine last year on a thanksgiving sale. I hardly used it for couple of times. After four months my machine is not working when I tried to sew. I can hear only the humming sound when I press the pedal. I got this machine because of its Name.I know my mother and my aunt had this for years. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Machine!!
This machine was recommended to me by a close relative that is very experienced in embroidering.I was interested in doing some things but didn't want to spend a lot of money on a machine as I didn't know if I would really like embroidering. As a novice, I didn't want to deal with anything too complicated.WOW, what a surprise.I love this machine!!I have never embroidered anything in my life! Opened the machine and within an hour had embroidered my first design. It was only my initials but I couldn't believe how easy it was with this machine. I'm hooked! No doubt I have much to learn about embroidering..but for me, I couldn't have found a better machine! It's GREAT!!! Very happy I chose this machine.

4-0 out of 5 stars great buy!
I love this machine!I've not sewn for years and this was just the ticket to get me excited about it all over again. It's been so much fun playing with all the embroidery designs and trying out different approaches. It's probably not a "beginner" machine but with a little practice, you can sew like a pro.It does everything but walk the dog!

I have just purchased this SE-270D.I had a very tough time finding one in stock - NEW.I had an older machine Euro-Pro that I just loved but it quit sewing stitches.I am thrilled that after researching this Brother uses the exact same bobbins (I have 60+ of SA156). It also uses Low Shank Quick attaching feet that all my specialty rufflers, etc. will easily adapt to. It has an extra thread holder that mounts on top of the thread cartridge so you can use twin needles or your favorite thread. It is very versatile. The *.pes format for embroidery is very popular and many companies offer FREE downloads of graphics. You must check it out, and Amazon is the best place I know of.Thank You, Jeanne from Western Montana It has opened up a whole new world of sewing fun and adventures.PERFECT & Flawless, they have included ease of use for everything. It has never been so much fun to sew. Thank You Amazon ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Known primarily for their well-crafted knives, Henckels also makes scissors and employs the same high-quality standards in their construction. This set includes five different pairs of scissors that cover a variety of household uses: standard 8-1/2-inch bent scissors for cutting paper or fabric, 8-inch kitchen shears for poultry or herbs (this pair also features a screw-cap opener between the handles), a6-inch straight trimmer for cutting hair or trimming beards, 6-inch flower shears for clipping rose stems or trimming house plants, and a pair of extra-sharp, pointed 4-inch embroidery scissors for sewing. Henckels uses the same high-carbon stainless steel for its scissor blades as for its knife blades to ensure durability and alonger-lasting sharp edge. The blades (except the flower shears) are held together with a screw that provides the perfect amount of tension and is removable so blades can be individually resharpened. Handles on all scissors are made of comfortable, nonslip, black polypropylene to reduce strain on hands. This set is fully guaranteed against defects in material and workmanship. Read more

Yes, I admit that I am very picky about scissors.Over the years, we have bought quite a few scissors, from the expensive ones to those you can buy from 99cent stores.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Scissor Assortment
These scissors are comfortable to use, solid, attractive. The sizes bundled in this set were just what I was looking for. Excellent product - great value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to the negative reviews- these are handy!
I bought this set of scissors about 6 years ago and they work just as perfectly now as the day I bought them!I reach for them CONSTANTLY!The variety of sizes is wonderful.Yes, the handles may be plastic but that does not mean they wear out or break - they are very durable. They've stayed sharp, they are easy to clean, they have not loosened at all where the joint is located and the larger scissors are very sturdy and strong! I've cut small wire with them and they stay super sharp and undented! Awesome gift!In fact I'm going to purchase another set for a Christmas gift. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

A good starter machine for garment construction and mending, this sewing machine from Brother includes 25 built-in stitches. These range from zigzag to shell tuck to blind hem settings, and there's also an automatic four-step buttonhole function. In addition, a twin needle setting lets you sew a double line with two colors of thread for a smart decorative touch. The machine's design and features are straightforward and user-friendly, with some settings--stitch length and width--automatically set for simplified operation. It also sews in reverse and has dial-adjusted tension for tidy work. Sophisticated home tailors will find this machine too basic, but occasional and beginning sewers should get plenty of use from it and not much frustration.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great machine!
This is my very first sewing machine of my own. It sews like a dream! I have made quite a few quilts with it, and never had a problem. But if you want a machine with some beautiful quilting stitches, skip this one. This is a very basic machine. I highly recommend this for anyone getting into sewing for the first time.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A great child's machine
This is a great machine for a child.I bought this for my 8-year-old daughter and she loves it.She is able to thread the machine and the bobbin without assistance.I intend to send one to my niece for her 10th birthday.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Hooks Ever
I learned to crochet on the Boye hooks and I couldn't understand why I was having trouble, then I realized it was the hooks. As soon as I tried these hooks, I immediately noticed the difference. In my opinion, you can crochet much better than with the other brands.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best BY FAR!!!
I have used these types of crochet hooks for years, and absolutely love them. They are designed to be really smooth so the yarn moves across the hook quickly and easily making it possible for you to crochet faster. Plus the design of the hook grabs the yarn and holds it for you without splitting the yarn and creating a mess. Better hide these hooks as others will want to steal them!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great price, good quality
I am new to sewing machines, I bought the Dressmaker because of it's awesome price. I was suprised to find that it can go through pretty thick fabric (It does have it's limits though). For my needs it is perfect. Some drawbacks are that it is pretty darn loud and it moves across the table making it a little hard to sew in a straight line. But if your needs are small (no heavy duty thick fabric) and money is an issue, than I recommend this product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for me!
This sewing machine is the perfect size for my little apartment! I don't sew everyday- so I keep it in the box in the linen closet when I don't use it.
1-0 out of 5 stars Dressmaker II .... Waste of time and money
Horrible little machine. Skips stitches, can't controll tension, repeatedly broke thread (no matter what quality used), makes strange noises. To make matters worse, no availability of customer service. No response to emails or phone calls. I got it to just do some straight edge sewing and hemming. Couldn't even do that. ... Read more
