5-0 out of 5 stars Love, Love, Love It!!
Fabulous machine!Super quick learning curve -- easy to thread (color coded) and so easy to sew with.Everything I make now looks so professional! How did I ever get by without it!I must admit, I was a little scared to buy a serger with all the comments about how hard they are to thread, let alone use, but it's not true with this machine.I would recommend it highly. My friend looks at her Singer "Baby Lock" machine with total disdain now...She wants a Brother like mine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great overlock serger - but there are some things it won't do
I think if you're looking at this machine, you're either a) new to serging or b) impressed by the price and interested in the quality.I'm completely new to sergers, but I did my homework before buying this one, and for the price and the performance, this serger has a perfect balance.
5-0 out of 5 stars a satisfied cusomer
I AM ALMOST 79 YEARS OLD SO I FELT I WOULD NOT NEED AN EXPENSIVE SERGER SINCE I HAVE TIMES I AM NOT ABLE TO SEW.BUT I WANTED ANOTHER SERGER THAT WAS EASIER TO THREAD. I HAD A WHITE 523 -I THINK. SO AGGRAVATING TO TRY TO THREAD. AND IT KEPT MESSING UP AND THE LOCAL SEWING MACHINE SHOP CHARGES $40 PER HOUR--AND EVEN IF THEY COULD FIX IT IN ONE HOUR WITH NO PARTS NEEDED I JUST HATED TO RISK EVEN THAT MUCH ON IT. SO AFTER WEEKS OF RESEARCHING PRICES AND THE REST - ON THE NET I SAW THAT AMAZON HAD THE BROTHERS SERGER FOR $200 AND LITTLE IF ANY COST FOR SHIPPING.IT IS A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH IT ON MY SMALL PROJECTS. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars because......
Not only is this machine great, it is easy to thread and use but above all I learned that Simplicity has wonderful customer support for any questions or problems that you may encounter, (which I could not get thru Brother, viking or Janome when I bought their machines)They answered my emails the next day and once within 24 hours and I was up and running with my serger from a total beginner to a confident serging maniac! You do not have to spend $1000's for a machine as sales people would have you beleive this does all that a most expensive machine does for a fifth of the price and I am happy I got it and saved myself a bundle.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great serger for a great price
As someone who sews, I'd considered a serger to help quicken the pace. After some product research, this seemed one of the better machines for the price. I'd looked at more expensive sergers but truly needed something decent at a low price. I also have a friend that does professional sewing try it out and she seemed to like it as well. She said that the included additional blade was worthwhile, as they alone can be as high as $60 to $100 for some machines.
4-0 out of 5 stars serger
I bought this serger for my wife. She was able to start using her machine faster than she thought possible with the help of the video.

2-0 out of 5 stars FRUSTRATED!!!!!
I have to admit right off that I am not an experienced serger, but I do have good sewing experience. This machine has been such a nightmare for me!!!!I was so excited to get my first serger, but I am having nothing but problems and have not been able to finish one single thing.ARG!It threaded pretty easily with clear color-coded instructions but nothing else has worked.Three needles have broken, one bent (I'm only sewing flannel here!).Now I am out of needles and as others have mentioned, they aren't easy to find.I will have to order new neddles online which is fine with me at the moment as I could use the week long break from this frustating machine!I'll give it one more go when the new needles arrive, and perhaps a trip to the 'local' singer dealer 35 miles miles away, but I may be returning this machiine.

4-0 out of 5 stars needs #2022 serger chromium needles
i purchased this machine from walmart in store in november 2005 as it had a free arm that is small enough to trim and hem ladies slacks.this is important to my type of sewing as i always seem to be doing circular stitching on ready to wear as well as fashion sewing.i am very pleased with the speed of stitching and the ease of threading. the manual is excellant. also the singer company website has a full color threading guide to print out if you need a large sized picture. the #2022 needles are hard to find in stores however singer website has them in 5 packs for 5 dollars each i have ordered 5 packs as they are combo of size 11 and 14. they are special because of the longer grooves front and back to reduce friction in high speed sewing. however my manual says #2020 may be used but you have to tinker with the tensions. in regard to the creeping or machine walking i have the machine on a sturdy surface, an old typewriter table from a second hand office supply store that is on wheels and has side extensions. i placedthe machine on a vinyl placematand this cured the creeping and quieted the sound as well. for 193 dollars i got a good deal.however i would suggest this for a person who has sewn with sergers or someone who can go to an experienced sewer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheaply made and not recommended for the serious sewer
I bought this item at Walmart for $229 and was excited to begin sewing my first project. That was a huge mistake. The thread kept popping out of the tension on #3 no matter what I did.I tried tightening it several times, went back to directions repeatedly looking for what I could have done wrong, though everything appeared to have been done correctly. To finish the initial project I was sewing I ended up having to hold thread #3 by hand to create the right tension to finish sewing.Thank goodness for dexterity! The other major problem I had was the machine jumped around a lot on my sewing table as it sewed. It didn't weigh enough to hold it in place, nor were there any suction cups on the bottom to keep it stable.I ended up having to chase the machine down while I was holding thread #3!I'm sure it all looked quite comical, but it was WAY too much of a hassle for me.I returned the item to Walmart, got my money back and went to a local sewing shop and found a Janome serger that didn't cost too much more. The Janome threads beautifully with perfect tension and has little suction feet to hold the machine in place while sewing.Going from the Singer to the Janome in the same day made it very clear to me what a cheap piece of junk the Singer is.As a side note, I asked the repairman at the sewing shop about the Singer and he says he won't carry them anymore because they break too often.3 Months later and I haven't had a single problem with my Janome! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Machine is strong but complex - not recommended for beginner sewers
I think the machine itself is solid and works well when threaded properly. With 5 threads, you get all the stitches that can possibly be had on a serger.Additionally, I liked the one button tension setting. As with all 5-thread mechanical sergers, setup and threading can be challenging. If you have not used a serger before, there is a definite learning curve.Practice on scraps to start.Patience and close attention to the instruction details will be well rewarded with new skills and fine results with the least amount of frustration..
2-0 out of 5 stars BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD, SINGER!
I recieved this serger as a gift. There was no demo tape included. For $599, I would expect some type of colorful presentation to get you started. It had a boring tedious manual with it.I found the machine impossible to thread with the instructions given in the booklet. The only way I can make this serger work is to put the front needle threads down through the pressure foot hole (while back needle treads are pulled under the bridge toward the back)... AND the brown looper thread has to be feed up through the pressure foot plate where the front needles insert. This is exteremely awkward, time consuming, requires tweezers, magnifying glasses and a lamp...and seems wrong! But, it works. I feel I am circumventing something, but I dont' know what.I have purchased three books from Amazon(one by Singer which unknown to me did not include this lastest model serger) as well as gone on line to Singer web site only to end up in frustration. Finally I had to consult with the husband (engineer) who spent hours figuring out the treading with a mine lamp on his head as well as a magnifying visor.GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD SINGER.There is no light inside the looper case. All threads, but especially black threads are hard to see.You have to be a contorsionist to thread this machine. They left no room for your hands either. The tweezers are cheap and you use them all the time. They are point noose tweezers so that your grasp must be exact on a thread. There needs to be a longer gripping surface to the tweezers in the tool kit.I rated this machine a two because once (40 hours later) you figure out the threading (if you ever do)the machine runs smoothly and quietly and does a nice hemmed edge. I still have not figured out how to hem a circle (ie hem of a pant leg) as the cutting knife, being in front of the stiches, starts clipping off the threads you just put it.You could spiral forever. I don't like how a serger leaves a chain of thread behind which you have to glue or tuck in behind edging threads with another needle (not in the kit). I did learn never to lift the pressure foot unil you chain off about 8 inches of thread at the end of a seam or the thread will break, but ....I could go on and on.DEMO VIDEO PLEASE! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Ugh
For one reason. Horrible customer service. I sewed over my needle the first week and dented the blades. The number from HSN shot me to India where they gave me another number that was always busy. Finally I got thier number in Canada. After being on hold for an HOUR, I ordered two sets of blades for $75. They were the wrong blades. I called again, wrong blades came, again. And this time they only sent me one set. HSN is getting this machine back and Euro Pro will not get any more of my money. ... Read more
