There's not a lot to say about cake pans, especially since I have not yet put them to use.However, since this size is difficult, if not impossible, to find in stores, I was very happy to find them online, at a reasonable price, and from a retailer who shipped them expeditiously. One drawback is that unlike most other pans I own, these pans are not tapered at the base, rendering them unstackable and difficult to store. Great for a every cook!
I bought a set of 4 pieces (square pan, 2 round pans, loaf) and was hesitant about using them despite the comments that it was safe. The first cake I bake turned out wonderfully. The material is sturdy and maintains its form with whatever you put in it; everything cooks evenly, and when you take it out of the oven its cool to the touch plus it is extremely easy to remove whatever you're cooking from the cookware!!You can also use these to make cold desserts/foods!I absolutely love this!!!Its a plus that it comes in pretty colors-- so it looks good on the inside with your food and on the outside too!.

I think I saw silicone bakeware for the first time on Jacque Torres's PBS show "Dessert Circus" in the mid-90sI did some research and it was quite expensive back then.

Best Pan
The Hillware 9" Springform Pan is made of professional quality aluminum, diswasher safe.They last for years.You cannot just pour water in this or any other pan with a removable bottom. It will leak.It is not water tight. The only pans that would be considered water tight are the regular cake pans. I don't unerstand why people think they can use this type of pan to hold water.
