Defective merchandise
I tried to set up this air conditioner in my home last night. The unit does not have the on/off, temperature or time control buttons in the control panel, so the only way I have to turn the unit on or off is to disconnect it. The alarm light comes on about 10 minutes after the air conditioner starts, the A/C shuts off and the unit becomes a very expensive fan. I have called customer support but have received no response as yet.

Cools well and efficiently; I've used one for three years and never had any of the scary problems other reviewers have reported.BUT, it it is loud, big, and refilling the water container is a pain (though you can operate (less well) without it.)I would recommend a window mounted device instead, unless you need either portability (no complicated window installation necessary,) or use in a room that only has windows that open outwards (the type you can't install a window AC in.)

More Heat, Less Cool
I bought one of these a few years ago and couldn't wait to return it.When you have an AC unit in a room, it generates heat -- there's a reason that a window unit hangs *outside* the room.There is heat dissipation along the exhaust hose also, and at the window: if your window has 2 sections, the heat can rise just outside the lower section, and re-enter at the window dividers.At least, understand that a 10000 BTU unit in the room does not equal the same outside the room, because the room is not insulated from the machine.I had this unit in a small bedroom -- maybe it was windy in there, but it really wasn't any cooler.The unit did act as a dehumidifier, and required a fair amount of emptying.Anyways, don't, don'tbuy this thing -- it does nothing, and it's expensive. ... How can I review it if it doesn't work?
I had been a satisfied owner of a DeLonghi dehumidifier that ran for years.When it finally went quit working, I wanted another DeLonghi and ordered this one.It arrived with a broken-off humidstat knob and a bent case, so I had to return it for a replacement.The replacement's water condensation unit didn't work at all (i.e., it didn't extract any water from the air).It also a small, strange ding that looked as if a heavy interior part of the machine had been thrown against the inside of the case so hard it made a reverse dent.I returned this DOA machine too, and asked for yet another replacement, but Amazon said no.Can't blame them.
An Unqualified Disaster
Avoid this product at all costs.It failed to work within the first few minutes that I received it and turned it on.For starters, the motor decided to turn off after only a few minutes of (extremmely noisy) running, even though I set the dehumidifier control knob to "continuous," and the room had a relative humidity reading of 60%.To add insult to injury, the product would not turn back on after several more attempts. When it finally decided to come back to life again, the dehumidifier lasted only for a few more cacophonous minutes and then turned off for good.And not a drop of water was extracted after all that noise and effort. Whatever happened to basic quality control?

I purchased it because it had a good name and my apartment had too much moisture.Once I set it up, the dehumidifier did not collect any moisture and runs very loud.We tried it for a few more days, but no moisture was collected.Had to return it.It was somewhat a hassle trying to use the same box to repack it. ... Good to Excellent
Everything about this A/C is first class. I love the remote control. The only exception is the limited spread of air. It has a circulating vent but the range is only about 45�. So it must be located where that is less of a problem.

Works great
Very good A/C for the money.My room is about 250 sq/ft, and it not only cooled off my room, but if I opened my door, everywhere else downstairs too.

We have owned and operated two of these units for one summer season, one in our bedroom and one in our kitchen.They replaced 15 year old A/C's. This review does not reflect performance of the unit but design only, which is to say that whoever designed it went out of his way to make the worst unit he could.1st, The fan, for instance, does not oscillate.You can move the grill to point right, left, or in the center, but it will not oscillate.2nd, the grill through which the air blows only points upward.You can vary the angle so it points less upward or more upward, but it will not point straight forward or down.3rd, although the water collector holds a lot of water, in order to drain the unit, you are given a very shallow pan, meaning that when the internal collector is full, it would take several trips to empty it.4th, the drainage point is at nearly floor level.This means that it is lower that even the very shallow drain pan they supply!Are we supposed to pick the unit up and tilt it to drain it?It does weight 81 lbs.5th, because of the 4th problem, the best solution is to raise the unit and use the hose for continuous drainage, which brings us to the 2nd problem: the air only blows upward, and since the unit is raised, you cannot get direct air if you are lying down or sitting comfortably.There are other portable units on the market which have none of these problems.They oscillate, the grill can point up, down, or level, and water drains into a container that can be easily removed and emptied.I wish someone had written this before I blew the money on this model!

Good for the buck, but not perfect
*edit* I must say that my view of this unit is cooling pretty quickly... I blew a fuse tonight and in my three years living here, I have NEVER blown a fuse.It must be using a lot of electricity.Also, yesterday was hotter.... about 85 degrees, and I have to say that even when I turned the temp down to 62/63 (lowest temp it goes), the room still felt a bit warm.I was very disappointed to see that.I am worried about when it turns 100+ or even in the 90s.My room isn't THAT big.It's probably 10 x 20".I am really worried about when I get my utility bill....If I could change the # of stars, I would give it three stars...

Don't expect to get this in one piece
Like others have said before me, the Engineer that designed the packaging for this unit needs to go back and get his degree again. This unit arrived with the box falling apart and was delivered upside down because the bottom was falling open. Parts were missing and the unit was broken.

This big item does not cool a big room very well.Reminder: the BTU is only 8500 so it is recommended that you buy this item for a large bedroom or a small living room; otherwise your room will take forever to cool down.
Well.... I like it.
After considering cutting holes in walls for wall mount units or trying to fit those ugly window jobs that always look jerry-rigged from both the inside and out I decided on a portable unit.I purchased the KW85 and had it installed within an hour after getting it home on a rather hot day.
