This simple unit provides safe, convenient, and attractive countertop storage for three Cuisinart blades and three cutting disks. It's designed to be used as stand-alone storage or side by side with Cuisinart's supplemental disk holder. The effective tamper-resistant locking device must be pulled out and twisted 90 degrees to access the cutting tools, and it automatically relocks when the lid is closed. Blades cannot be accessed via the open bottom, and disks can only be removed through the locking top. Worthlessto the Nth!
Any serious Cuisinart owner/dailer user with their fine array of multiple blades needs a serious storage/accessible medium for those blades. NOT a counter-top "display" item! Cuisinart offered and I have two, pricey stands/racks, with no lids or protection yet they calculated the number of discs per rack wrong. Cuisinart should come up with a secure disc-holder to smartly accomodate ALL discs/blades for a given model and which - if it becomes dirty, wouldn't mind a trip through the dishwasher!

Lock problem
Had to return the first one because of a lock malfunction (it locked but would not unlock).Amazon was great about responding immediately and replacing it promptly.However, the lock on the second one does not work properly, either (it doesn't lock), though I will keep it, since keeping little hands safe is not an issue in my home. This item is a good way of storing blades and disks, but unless Cuisinart comes up with a more reliable locking mechanism, don't count on it to protect small hands from getting into it.

Shoulda Bought it a long time ago
This is a super convenient item. I don't lock it so messing with the lock is not an issue. The lock could probably be a little more user friendly. It stores everything just great. Adds interest to soups & stews...
I opted to use this blade for carrots and other veggies to pique interest in soups and stews where one expects the usual rounds. I also used it on raw potaoes intended for traditional corned beef hash and found that after a good rinse, they cooked up and incorporated well in this recipé. I liked the results as well for 'au gratins' and other casseroles where one expects boring slices, for which I have neither the time nor patience. I like "chunky" dishes which have textures and varying discerable tastes.

Not made for sweet potatoes.
We've been eating more sweet potatoes and yams as healthy alternative to white potatoes. Usually I slice them and drizzle with olive oil and bake, so I thought slicing them as fries would be more appealing to kids (and less expensive than the frozen ones at the health food co-op). I used this disc in my Cuisinart Prep 11 plus.It turns out that yams and sweet potatoes are alot more firm than white potatoes. The light gold colored ones sliced up a little better than the dark red ones, but both colors were a bit of a hassle, getting stuck in the blade and jamming it up.

The julienne dischas limited value
I bought this hoping to use it to prepare Matchstick-size vegetables. The julienne disc included in this set does nothing different than the shredding disc which comes standard with the machine.It works fine on harder foods like potatoes and carrots(rendering a "julienne" very similar to a shred.)It absolutely pulverizes any water-based vegetables like peppers & squash.I experimented extensively with different foods and I only got the perfect julienne on very hard foods. Works Great on my 11-cup DLC 8
My Cuisinart processor came with a 4mm slicing disc. I aim to collect all of the DLC 8 discs/blades. This 6 mm blade works great, but I noticed it really isn't much bigger than the 4 mm. It makes a great backup blade in case the other one is dirty. Love this stuff. Great price too at $19.95.

Can't use with DLC5 unless ordering adt'l part
Amazon recommended this accessory when I bought the DLC5.After receiving it I found that the spindles are permanently attached to the shredder and slicer blades that came with the unit.(I'm not sure how you store those very efficiently!)Now I have the adt'l slicer blade with no spindle.I have to do some research to find a spindle see if it will fit the DLC5 food processor.I'm in limbo!

The best way to store your blades
This holder is an excellent way to keep your sharps in a safe child proof container. It also keeps the edges from touching other items and causing damage to the blades. I am only giving it 4 stars because my dough blade won't seat correctly, but it is fine. I wish you could get this in matching colors. This is a holder ONLY. If you think you are getting all of those blades for only $30, you need a reality check.

Fine grater disc works fine
Grating very hard Italian cheese by hand was difficult and slow, so this disc makes a huge difference. The disc itself, while bearing the Cuisinart name, was made in China, but seems manufactured to high standards. My only complaint is that some of the cheese remains ungrated and gets wedged under the disc. However, overall the disc does a great job of producing very fine cheese. I have not tried it on anything other than cheese.

Old School perfection
I've owned this for years and am ordering one for my kid for Christmas this year because I'm tired of him borrowing it all the time. The best feature here is simplicity. The machine will run continuously without the food pusher in place. The newer "safety" version stops when the pusher is removed. You can pour oil in the machine while it's running to make mayonaise or grate cheese or carrots without stopping. This makes great dough for pies, pasta and noodles too. I've often wished for a larger workbowl or more accesories but in reality that happens rarely. It took me a while online to find a plastic blade to make mayo but it can be done with the metal one.
