Not the best but good for apartments above the first floor
It does not cool as well as it says it should - 850 sq. feet. and a small plastic piece (cord winder) broke immediately and I've asked for a replacement which they did not send.

Bad shipping
The product is a great item, the problem is getting one shipped to you in whole. After two trys and both times the casement or parts of the A/C was broken when it arrived.

Very Good Room A/C
I purchased this item for my parents.They have told me it is a very good product and it is cooling off their rooms in their house.However, this item was delivered to them with a busted up shipping box which was re-taped on the bottom and 2 broken a/c parts.These parts are a square adapter and the cable winder. As of today, August 18, 2006 no one has been able to help them get replacement parts.This was a new product that was purchased.I need an answer as to why no one will get them replacement parts.They have contacted J&R Music World twice.The first time the customer service person was very helpful.The second time they called the customer service person had no idea what they were talking about so they gave up.Since I am the purchaser of this item I will now have to contact J&R Music World to resolve this issue. ... Did the trick!
I tested this air conditioner to cut down on the cost of my central air expenses for days when the temperature is more mild.It has worked perfectly.It is an attractive unit that is easy to move from room to room.I would highly recommend it.

Like it..
Ordered a DeLonghi unit and like it. After reading some reviews it seems that some units might get damaged in shipping if poorly pacakged/shipped - so I bought from a company with a good shipping and return policy. Unit seems to cool very well and I don't have to deal with emptying water which is a huge plus compared to different brand unit I tried.

Did not live up to expectations
I owned the PAC290 for 8 years.It cooled my 10x10 room in under 30 minutes, and gave me 25-35% humidity releif.I was told since I never used the water in the PAC290, this machine would actually perform better, not.Seven machines later I get 10 degrees cooling relief and 5% Humidty releif, also the air cleaner filterdoes not filter out the allergens or dust.Not the same machine that the PAC290 was.make sure if get one ship via a motor freight truck not UPS as they damage easily.I would love to share experices with this machine with the other reviewers.I am currious what kind of temperature and humidity result you got, as well as how well the air cleaner filter worked for you.Bottom line. think hard before buying this machine. ... 13,000 btu
i bought one delonghi's ( 13,000 btu) portable a/c two yrs ago, it is fine, never had any problem ( knock on wood!)although when the temperature reaches 95 degree (ca area), it doesn't feel as cool anymore.
For those of us who can't have window air conditioners........
Of all windowless air conditioners, you cannot do better than Pinguino by Delonghi.Yes they are more expensive than other brands, but you get what you pay for.I live in a high rise building which is centrally air conditioned, however the southern sun and floor to ceiling windows makes it impossible to keep my condo cool enough for me.Thank goodness for the PAC 400.It is definately top of the line.I have 2 in my 3600 square foot condo and they are perfect to supplement our less than perfect central air conditioning system.They are very quiet and reliableDelonghi's customer service is also excellent.I have used these air conditioners since 1997 and am very pleased.The one problem is that here in Georgia, there are no places to get these units serviced.When I have had to have mine serviced it goes back to Delonghi in New Jersey which is a hassle but their customer service is excellent.I recommend the PAC 400 over some of the other units which I have had.These require you to fill them with water and the calcium buildup from the water tends to cause problems, so still with the PAC 400.Please note this is a split unit so it is excellent for those of us with balconies.The compressor (and the noise) stay outside your home. ... Delivered on time but the shippment box was badly damaged
I have to rate the delivery time for this to be a 5. The product arrived on time.
Gets the job done. Slightly quirky vent hose system.
During Calif.'s late July, 2006 record-breaking heat wave, I searched in vain for a local appliance store who had portable a/cs in stock. They were selling them as fast as they got them in and I was sweltering day and night with nothing but a box fan blowing 80f+ air on me. In this part of town, NO ONE rents apartments with air conditoning. "Oh, you get cool ocean breezes here" the building managers say. Yeah, sure, except during the Summer or heat waves.
Happily surprised
I got this item at BJ's Wholesale for $279.I bought it because of the dehumidifier function and the self evaporation process advertised.At this price, despite high hopes, I was relatively skeptical on its efficiency and was ready to returned the unit if I was disappointed.I never buy an appliance without checking Consumers Reports but the most recent article, published in June, covered only Windows AC units.If you need to place the unit in its side during transportation to your house, it is advised to wait 24 hours before turning it on to allow the coolant to get back in place.The unit is heavy and you might need help to move upstairs or downstairs.Once on the level you like, the build-in wheels will make moving to the room you choose easy. The flexible hose is relatively frustrating to work with if the space you have is restraint.My bedroom is small and I have a chest of drawers by the window I connected the exhaust system to.It took some time adjusting but with transparent duct tape, it worked well and stayed in place.On AC setting, the machine is adequate and the cooling is thorough.However, what I am most impressed with is the dehumidifier function.This option runs only on medium fan and, despite the heat wave we are experiencing right now in Massachusetts, I haven't had to switch to the AC option!I was sure I would have to do so, eventually.It was close to 100 today and the temperature in the bedroom was at 70.Now, it is nightime, in the low 80's and very humid but the unit, still on dehumidifier function, is reading between 70 and 73. The unit can stop if it needs to be drained but has worked non stop for 5 days, 3 on AC and yesterday and today on dehumidier, so far, without problem.I couldn't get any info but plan to contact the maker to know how much energy, if any, is saved in this function vs. A/C.I am happy with this machine and, so far, don't regret the price I spend on it.If my satisfaction with this product changes, I shall make an update. ... NOT WORTHIT
This product did not live up to my expectations in so many ways. As mentioned, the GFI plug is ultra sensitive, you'll give up on setting the time after it trips for the 10th time in three hours, you cannot get it to shut off at desired temp, and the design of the unit is terrible. I was told by several online retailers that this unit was "drip free," although I should expect to empty it "occasionally" if I live in an especially humid environment. Well, living in Southern California (and having lived on the East Coast for a brief stint) I presumed I'd be ok with an "occasional" emptying. I was even told by one retailer that their firm was located in Southern Cal and they ran their unit for a month without needing to empty it. Well, maybe I just generate more humidity inside my home than they do. Anyway, I empty it twice a day now. Moreover, it makes a lovely beeping noise and flashing indicator to let me know it needs to be emptied, which is great to have when you're sleeping. I like waking up at 3 am to my AC flashing and beeping like a fire alarm. But I digress. Back to the design flaws of this unit- the drain plug is conveniently located so low on the unit (MAYBE an entire inch off the floor) that it takes several trips to drain it into their convenient drip pan (provided for your emptying pleasure). The exhaust hose on the unit gets very hot; I mean, hot to the touch.
DON'T BUY THIS
I am having the same problems as others. The unit is tripping each 2, 3 hours. I called electrician about this issue as AMCOR suggests, but he said it must be AC's problems, not circuits.

THE TIME CAN BE SET USING REMOTE BUT TO SET TIME ON THE ACUTAL UNIT ONLY THE HOURS WILL WORK THE MINUTE FUNCTION WON'T BLINK TO SET. ALSO THE ROOM TEMPERATURE IS SUPPOSED TO SHOW ON THE FRONT OF UNIT BUT IT ONLY WILL DISPLAY THE SELECTED OPERATING TEMPERATURE. I WISH I WOULD HAVE HAD A REVIEW TO READ PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE. I WAS ALSO TO RECEIVE A FREE AIR PURIFIER WITH MY ORDER. THIS HAS NOT ARRIVED YET AND THE STORE (AIR-N-WATER) HAS DUMPED THE WHOLE PROBLEM IN MY LAP TO TAKE CARE W/AMCOR DIRECTLY. I wish I had read these other reviews before I bought...
As the many previous reviewers have warned, this unit will leak water onto to your floor. It ran for a week without any apparent problem, but now I can't run it for even a half an hour without it leaking. I have drained the water tank but that didn't help. It seems to be a defective design. I would advise anyone thinking of purchasing this product to consider something else.

VERY BAD PRODUCT & HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
I paid $437.00 for this air conditioner. It worked very well for 30 days and then it began to leak severely.It drenched my carpet!I've been dealing with Soleusair since about mid July and it's been an awful experience.Phone tag...e-mail tag... lots of excuses about their phones being inoperative, and first they asked for copies of receipts (OK that's reasonable) and now I am being asked to provide a tracking number from the shipper (give me a break!).It's obvious that the company's tactic is to harass their disgruntled customers until they give up and go away.I will most likely have to pay about $70.00 to ship this junk back.I will never buy another soleusair product especially over the internet!

3 in one--who would have thought it would work so well
To have an AC, dehumidifier and heater all in one, and have them all work very well for only 450 dollars is excellent!
