Editorial Review

West Bend has improved on the classic corn popper design by adding a motorized stirring rod which ensures that every single kernel pops, every time. In about five minutes, the Stir Crazy Popper produces up to 6 quarts of perfectly popped corn, using one tablespoon of oil per 1/4 cup corn. You can clean it with just a quick swipe of the sponge. For added flavor, place a bit of butter in the butter well to melt over the corn as it pops. The plastic cover doubles as a serving bowl, so when the cycle is done, just flip it over to enjoy popcorn that's guaranteed to be good to the last pop. Read more

Features

  • Popcorn popper with motorized stirring rod to ensure all kernels pop
  • Produces up to 6 quarts in about 5 minutes; built-in butter well
  • Nonstick coated popping surface
  • Heat-resistant handles and base; plastic cover doubles as serving bowl
  • Measures 12 by 8-1/2 by 10 inches; 1-year limited warranty

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
It is a kind of entertainment to watch how this relatively small machine pops popcorn. it is very funny and the final result is super delicious. I didn't have any problems so far and I am very glad that I found this popcorn popper. My wife and I like to use it very often. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW! This machine is amazing!!
If you have one of those hot air popcorn poppers, better get rid of it and buy this one! No more putting in popcorn and having it blow back out into the bowl, no more having to fight a warped lid! This machine works very well! I made 2 quarts of popcorn and had a total of three unpopped kernels in the bottom of the bowl when I was done, and two half popped kernels. Beat that you roaring-warped-lid-hot-air-popper! This machine is silent (aside from the popping corn) This popcorn popper DOES require you use a little oil to pop the corn. For 2 quarts of popcorn (1/3 cup of kernels) you need 1 TBSP of oil, which is almost next to nothing. It pops fast and does a thorough job of it. The popcorn I used was NOT gourmet popcorn or any fancy, expensive brand. It was ordinary no-name bulk popcorn from a large bulk food store around here. I recommend this popcorn popper!

4-0 out of 5 stars The kids loved it!
This is a fun and a bit of a nostalgic gift I received from a friend of mine for Christmas last year. She purchased it here on amazon.com and then sent me the link.

Editorial Review

Plug in Presto’s PopLite and the party begins. In less than 2-1/2 minutes you’ll have up to 18 cups--two large bowlfuls--of fluffy popcorn with virtually no unpopped kernels. And because the machine uses hot air instead of oil, the resulting snack is healthier and lower in calories. That’s not to say you can’t add butter; in fact, the 1/2-cup measuring cup on top of the popper doubles as a butter melter. Simply put in the desired amount of margarine or butter (room temperature is best), and it melts from the heat produced during the popping process. The clear plastic cover and cup, which must stay on during popping so the popped corn doesn’t fly all over the room, easily remove for hand cleaning with warm, soapy water. No other clean-up is required. While a few unpopped kernels spring out the chute as the machine begins to heats up, the chute does a good job of directing the popped corn into a bowl. The popper measures 14 by 9 by 6-1/2 inches, and is identical to Presto’s Orville Redenbacher Hot Air Corn Popper except for color and logo. Presto covers the PopLite with a two-year warranty. 1-0 out of 5 stars Burned Out After a Dozen Uses
For some reason, this unit burned itself out after six months and only about a dozen uses. It was great up until it almost caught fire, never to work again. It was always used according to the instructions: never more than half full of kernels; always popped dry without oil or butter. I would NOT buy this again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just a fun machine, nice light popcorn fast
I remeber a family friend had an air popper when I was a kid, one of the old originals, and the game was always to blow the top off of it. Well, the first thing that came to mind when I got my first appartment after college for warming gifts was an air popcorn popper, that was 7 years ago and 3 places later.I love this machine. I have a traditional popper as well, and their is always the microwave, but you never really realize how much oil is stuck to the kernal in traditional poppers. This machine makes popcorn fast and so light, it great to eat without anything. One thing is a caution at the end, if the last few kernals are not popping, when you stop the machine, take a second or two (using oven mits) to tilt the machine to drop the unpopped kernals out. Although usually their may be one or two only (does an excellent job) don't let the kernals burn on the hot grates, hard to clean up, and it smells. Also, at the end of the pop, it can get a bit crazy trying to catch the last few flying kernal the come shooting out the air flow, they even pop sometime outside the popper in the bowl. I find it fun, and kids would help by chaising them, so a few cheep seconds of entertainment for the family as well. So, if you like a light popcorn that is much healther, this is it.Presto has made this machine or a form of it for years, and they do it right. Enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Popcorn In Seconds.
Bought this because of the positive reviews and we needed something healthier than microwave. Also our dome shaped popper seemed to be steaming the popping kernels, turning out soggy popcorn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great; healthier and cheaper than microwave popcorn
It works great, it's healthier than microwave popcorn, and in the long run it's cheaper too. Pour in half a cup of kernels, plug it in, and within a couple minutes you've got a bowl full of fresh popcorn with only a few unpopped kernels and virtually no cleanup. It's not much louder than most microwave ovens and it's far less likely to burn the popcorn. Only one minor complaint: butter doesn't really melt completely in the cup on top (make sure you have melted butter ready to go if you want it). An on/off switch might've been nice but that's not a big deal unless you want to keep it on your countertop permanently. Oh and this product is identical to the Presto PopLite (ASIN: B00006IUWA) just with a different label (it even says so in the description above), but you get a coupon for 50 cents off Orville's with this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast, easy and perfect low cal snack
After reading about all the harmful chemicals that possibly end up in microwave bagged popcorn, I decided to look into a hot air popcorn popper.I use this machine at least 3 times a week.I really like it other than it is a little loud and blows popcorn dust on counters and floors and I wish it had an on/off switch other than unplugging it from the wall.I have a GFI protected outlet so I don't feel too uncomfortable with this issue. It makes great popcorn and pops most of the kernels. It makes the perfect low cal, low fat, high fiber snack with minimal effort and preparation and easy clean up.
4-0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing and easy to use
I recently bought this awesome popper and it works great, both for the price(got mine for $15 from amazon) and performance. It does pop within 2-3 minutes and leave very few unpopped kernels. I am a college student and I know what it takes to clean-up...but hey great news...this is very easy to clean...I just wipe it with a paper napkin and its as good as new.

Editorial Review

Face it, sometimes the best thing about going out to a movie is the popcorn, those big plump kernels that always seem so much better than what you pop at home. But this simple stovetop popper changes all that. It really does make awesome, fresh-popped corn that might make you start renting videos instead. The sturdy aluminum pan has a clip-on lid with a stay-cool wooden handle. A turn crank on the handle spins the key element: the stainless steel stirring system that keeps the corn moving across the bottom of the pan, for even heat and oil distribution, ensuring the best popping results. The lid has steam vents, to help keep the popcorn dry and crisp. The enclosed booklet is a wonderful resource, with not only clear and detailed instructions, but also dozens of recipes and popcorn history and lore. These are folks who really do know their popcorn, and the results are outstanding. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Far and away the best and easiest popcorn!
For years, I used an air popper -- but would have never bought it had I known about the wonderful Whirley Pop. It is light and easy to lift, and pops the world's best popcorn, WITHOUT ANY UNPOPPED KERNELS!Although best with coconut or peanut oil, plain old canola oil does just fine. Also, if I add salted butter to the pan with the oil and popcorn, I don't even need any salt -- and need A LOT less butter than I did with the air popper. Also, with the air popper I always had many unpopped kernels, and, no matter how careful I was, had popcorn all over the kitchen. No such problems with this ... It is WONDERFUL in all respects.HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION.

4-0 out of 5 stars This makes great popcorn
I purchased the Whirley-Pop a few weeks ago and it makes very good popcorn, but you have to be careful not to keep the heat on high during the entire popping time.I put the heat on high to start the popping and then turn it down to medium. If you leave it on high the popcorn burns and sticks to the bottom of the popper. I think it would be very good if the popper was made in a heavy stainless steel, it wouldn't be so apt to burn. However, this being said, it makes great popcorn and the wire stirrer keeps the popcorn moving. Every bit of popcorn popped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really glad I bought this
I don't like popcorn, but my family does, and I started to dread the smell of burnt kernels stinking up the microwave from popcorn popped in those paper bags.Nor did I want to sacrifice my All-Clad saucepan to pop plain popcorn on the stovetop.I bought the Whirley Pop on a whim. It looked quaint, like something in an old Sears catalog. Turns out, it makes superior popcorn--fluffier than the other methods produce, faster, and with few, if any, stray kernels. Not that I eat any, well, just a few to sample. With a little butter, thank you. ... A good size for parties, families, and popcorn junkies, the 8-quart Stir Crazy popper from West Bend uses a motorized stirring rod to maximize popcorn yield and minimize cooking time. The rod sweeps the kernels over the popper surface so that the kernels are evenly distributed over the oil and heat. This design yields up to 25 percent more than other models, while popping takes just seven minutes, and unpopped kernels are rare. The popper also includes a dual steam vent and butter well in the lid for minimizing condensation and buttering the corn while it pops. When popping is finished, the lid doubles as a serving bowl. Safe for countertop use, the Stir Crazy has a nonstick interior for easy wipedown, and the base nestles into the cover for tidy storage. It measures 14 by 12 by 9-1/4 inches and comes with a 90-day warranty. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Might damage some microwave ovens
We've been running our Presto popcorn popper several times a week in a variety of microwave ovens for the past two or three years and have been happy with the results. However just two batches cooked in a relatively new Panasonic Model NN-S634WF microwave oven burned out the magnetron. I notice that other PowerPop reviewers with Panasonic microwave ovens had the same experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ordering Accessory Concentrators a bad idea?
We bought this as a replacement for a well used, formerly reliable, hot air popper.
4-0 out of 5 stars VERY EASY TO USE----FOR EVERYONE
I recently purchased "White Rice" popcorn for my Dad who has diverticulitious. It is small and very tender and an airpopper blew it all over the place.I spent some time on the web researching alternate poppers and saw this. My parents are elderly and have no trouble using it at all.I reccomend it as a healthy alternative to standard microwave popcorn. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I like this thing
I wanted to eliminate salt from my diet and there is no such thing as no-salt, low or no-fat pre-bagged and boxed microwave popcorn. This contraption answers the need.It is more eco-friendly,too, having no bag to dispose of, and uses less electricity to nuke than the prepared kind. Eating from its bowl is more pleasant than digging into a paper bag. It took a couple times to establish the right amount of time, and I'm now looking to the sixth use of the little liner. It does require about 42 seconds of labor to measure out the kernels and assemble the popper. I cannot yet testify to its longevity.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've had mine for years!
My mom gave me this popper several years back (I'm talking, SEVERAL, when microwaves were still a novelty) and I still use it.I normally don't leave reviews, but I'm in grad school now, without a microwave oven, and looking for an air popper and saw that some folks had not given this popper the love it deserves, so I must point out it's beauty.
5-0 out of 5 stars best popcorn popper microwave or normal
makes the best popcorn I found.Use peanut oil and any junk popcorn and it pops up light and fluffy.Clean-up is not bad cause it's just a removeable bowl that gets messy.I get about 6 bowls out of a concentrator before it needs to be replaced. So a pack of 8 gets you about 50 bowls of popcorn. The pack sell on amazon "Presto 09964 PowerCup Concentrators" for $0.99, so not a big deal.I'm using a pretty small unpowerful microwave and have no problems.I'm not sure why the previous negative reviews cause I think it works great. It says dishwasher safe but I would not recommend it.Like all plastic it will become brittle over time in the dishwasher.I would love to have a glass version of this. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine for the Money
Bought this and put it together in about 1/2 an hour.It is really nice.Took me about 4 times to get the popcorn cooking right.First time, did not hook up the kettle to the top and it wasn't turning, so we had a burning problem.(Boy nothing worse than that burnt popcorn smell), 2nd time, the plug to the kettle was not in all the way, so we waited and waited and waited, and no popcorn.3rd Time, I was not watching and the popcorn was popping so fast that it got clogged and started burning.4th try...PERFECT...I bought the nap paks, but am going to try using Canola oil and a different popcorn. The Nap Paks are nice, but when the popcorn is cold, it tastes AWFUL. Only drawback is that it takes a little longer to clean than the microwave popcorn bag that you just throw away. Will be great for parties here at my house, as well as for carnivals that we have for the kids for our Sunday school.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Popper for the price.
I searched all over for a large Popcorn Popper. This was the lowest price. It took a little over 30 minutes to unpack it and assemble it.I moved it into the house and started making popcorn shortly after. It looks nice sitting in our living room. That's the location of where we watch movies. If you want to make as much popcorn as the show in the pictures you would need to make 3-4 batches.Like some of the other reviews I notice if you put to much oil or to many popcorn seeds then it will jam up and burn your popcorn.Yes, the little pre-measured packets are good and the taste is excellent but..... They are expensive and I am cheap. I bought a big 50 pound bag of popcorn seeds for 18 dollars and our favorite so far is a product called POP-ALL this is the best popping oil. It's around 22 dollars and I think 2.5 gallons. It turns the popcorn a nice yellow color like movie theater popcorn. The kids love watching it pop and I like the smell that it fills the house with.Any popcorn that we don't eat we put outside for our chickens that love it also.Cleaning takes a few minuets.I wipe it down with a dishcloth with warm soapy water to break up the oil on the plastic windows. Then a few more times with just warm water. The pot unplugs and you can rinse it out.The inside of my pot is now dark brown from the oil and I can't get it cleaned. It does not affect anything I guess it's like having an iron skillet gives it flavor? The manual tells you to fill it with 2 cups of water and run it for 15 minutes doing that will steam the inside of the unit and you can wipe it down.It also made the very top of the front door that is made of plastic warp from the heat.I don't recommend closing the door while doing that to clean it.The holes in the bottom make it even better. After you cook the popcorn you stir it around and the kernels fall thru the holes into a tray so when you fill your bowl up you don't break your teeth on the hard kernels.Bottom line is I love this machine and would buy it again if I had to.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice popper, but you lose a lot of the kernels
Had this popper a month now and use it several times a week.Great tasting popcorn and easy to make.I recommend purchasing premeasured packages from Mega-Pop.Only issue that I have with the popper is that when the kernels are popping and the topside doors are open to expel the popped kernels, you get a lot of unpopped kernels flying out of the pot.We rented a similar popper, but with the 8oz pot and virtually every kernel popped. This popper has a 4oz pot and you lose about 20% of the kernels.

5-0 out of 5 stars stainless popcorn popper works good
When ordering this popper I was somewhat hesitant to do so due to some other reviews;I knew I had to have stainless though so I went for it.I'm glad I did it works flawlessly.I turn it up high till I hear the first pop;then I turn it down to medium and start cranking. The popper pops almost every cernal, even when using cheapo generic popcorn.I use olive oil and it works great yielding a healthy snack.I'm converted, glad to give up microwave popcorn with its trans fat and hydrogenated artery cloging oil and poisons in the paper wrapping.

3-0 out of 5 stars More popper; poor performer
I had an aluminum Whirley Pop that had performed wonderfully for years. For reasons beyond my understanding, my wife bought this popper as a replacement. Despite its added solidity and bulk, the steel pan and lid fail to heat up enough to keep steam from condensing heavily onto the popped corn. This creates tough, chewey, popcorn. If you heated the popper without oil for a time you might be able to avoid this. The aluminum popper does a better job for less money and without excessive preheating time.

A plastic replica of the familiar, old-fashioned, street-cornerpopcorn stand, this delightful tabletop-size electric popper not onlypops corn but also props up the spirits of everyone in sight--or withinaroma range. Because it employs hot air instead of oil, the popperproduces a healthful, low-fat snack. With a capacity of 3-1/2 ounces ofkernels, the popper pops enough corn in its chamber to please a family, several dorm roommates, or an office crowd--and sends it cascadingthrough a chute into a waiting bowl. A measuring cap ensures the properamount of kernels is poured into the top before the unit is turned on.After one batch is made, the popper must cool for 15 minutes beforeanother is begun. The popper measures 16-3/4 inches high, 7-1/4 incheswide, and 9-1/2 inches deep and carries a 90-day warranty againstdefects. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars waste of money
I have used my Movietime Popcorn Popper and well, I wish I could send it back. First the instruction manul claims that it pops more kernels that other popcorn makers if this is true I'm going back to microwave popcorn. I found nearly half the kernels went unpopped.
1-0 out of 5 stars A Horrible Popper
This popper is horrible. Even though it uses no oil or anything, just hot air, it is big and bulky. It can become a storage problem. Also, once some of the popcorn is popped and hot kernels are in the bowl, they will pop, sending prpcorn everywhere!!! If I could, i would give this produst 0 stars. It is a horrible product that is a waste of money. You should buy a different popper, even if it uses oil. I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Where's the popcorn???
Looks cute sitting on the counter! Unfortunately, there are more unpopped kernals than there is popcorn.Watch out for flying HOT unpopped kernals.Would not recommend this product unless you are looking for a decorative piece for your collection of junk! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Pop your movie in the VCR and your corn on the stove. This old-fashioned-style stovetop popper makes up to 6 quarts of delicious theater-quality popcorn to feed the whole family while watching home movies. The aluminum popper heats popcorn kernels at a high temperature of 475 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas most poppers can only heat to 350 degrees. The result is lighter, fluffier popcorn that tastes like it was popped right at the movie theater. A wooden crank stirs the paddle inside the popper so kernels heat evenly and don’t stick to the bottom. The popper also has a drip-cup for adding oil or melting butter into your popcorn. The lid is hinged for easy loading of popcorn kernels and dispensing of the finished snack and has a window for viewing the popping in action. This stovetop popper is covered by a one-year warranty. 1-0 out of 5 stars good pop corn but lid broke
The pop corn is very good, but the lid broke. I am going to look for one that has a solid metal top. But the pop corn is great, and you can put sugarin there with the oil and salt to form glaze, and cinamon, pepper, chinese five spice, and so on

5-0 out of 5 stars love it
I have had this popper for a little over a year now and I love it. It just requires a about a teaspoon of oil. After it is finished popper, I add the salt to it in a bowl and it is ready to go. I have not had any problems with the lid fitting. It is a tight fit, but you are working with hot oil, so shouldn't it fit tight? Overall, this is the best for making a lot of popcorn all the time. It is cheap and it has totally paid itself off for the amount I would have spent eating the some amount from microwave popcorn. Plus, it is so much healthier than the microwave junk. 5 stars all the way!

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Alright
First I want to say that this popper makes excellent tasting popcorn.I had no problem with grease splatters or a loose fitting lid.Which leads me to my explanation of giving this popper 3 stars.I have owned this popper for less than a year. Before I even used the popper, I took it apart to see how easily it fit back together. It didn't easily fit back together.I had to have my husband manipulate it back together.I thought what the hey and used it anyway. As I mentioned the popcorn is 5 star quality. But then after about 3 months use (once a week), the aluminum clasp that holds the lid on snapped off.The popper is still usable without the clip, I just have to hold that side of the lid, while pouring the popcorn into the bowl.If I don't hold the lid, popcorn is everywhere.I shouldn't have to make due with a 3 month old product.Regardless the thing still works even though that part broke and I can not take it apart and reassemble. ... Using hot air, this popcorn popper makes a healthful, low-calsnack, converting 1/2 cup of kernels into about 3 quarts of popped cornin about 3 minutes. The removable lid on the popper's cover serves asmeasuring cup for kernels and, when it's in place on the cover, canalso be used for melting butter with the hot air rising from thepopping chamber. The 1,200-watt popper can make two batches before itneeds to cool down for 10 minutes before popping more batches. Thecover and lid require hand washing. The popper measures 5-3/4 incheswide, 12 inches high, and 7-3/4 inches deep and carries a one-yearwarranty against defects. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE Popcorn Popper
If you want to pop 1/2 the kernels you put into the machine, then this unit is for you! The kernels that actually pop are good, but don't break a tooth on those 'old maids'...

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst item for my money!
The chute is too short and does not point downward.I ended up sweeping the kitchen floor and cleaning the dinning table (even though, I placed a large bowl directly in front of the popper).I was highly annoyed with the amount of unpopped popcorn that came out compared to the total amount I measured (about one-third was unpopped). In addition, I had to reuse the popper because the amount that did pop was simply not enough not even for one serving.
1-0 out of 5 stars There's $15 down the drain
Most of the kernels fly out unpoped and scalding hot (do not touch!!).Alot of the kerrenels pop unce in the bowl and fly all over the kitchen. The unit gets extremely hot to the touch and the popcorn has a chewy, stale taste once popped.Very dissappointed. ... Read more
