Professional pizza and traditional European bread ovens are often lined with stone or brick. This is so heat is stored up and redistributed evenly. The resulting blast of heat from the Old Stone Oven rectangular pizza stone gives bread and pizza a nice chewy crust. The rustic French tarts called galettes are also well suited to a baking stone. To use the stone, place it in a cold oven and preheat to 500 degrees for pizza, or according to the recipe for bread or galettes. The stone is made of the same material that lines blast furnaces and kilns, so it can handle ultra-high temperatures.Read more

Features

  • Pizza stone duplicates crispy pizzeria-style crust
  • Firebrick construction offers superior heat retention and distribution
  • Flat surface releases pizza or bread quickly and easily
  • Durable texture resists cracking caused by high temperatures

5-0 out of 5 stars At last! A home-made pizza worth eating!
I was helped in choosing this pizza stone by the hundreds of online reviews and suggestions posted by people from all over. Well, they were all right. Excellent item. I bought two stones and used them simultaneously for the first two homemade pizzas of my life... DELICIOUS! As others have suggested, I never remove the stone from the oven, and lately I just placed a pan containing the dough for an olive focaccia and it came out perfectly done. I am convinced that the stone works its magic also when not used to bake directly on it. I am extremely happy so far and I'd highly recommend this item. Buon Appetito!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pizza Stone
I can't believe how fast I received my pizza stone and the way it was packaged was great.I've use pizza stones before and loved the way they even out the heat in the oven and the cripy crust that it gives.I'll very happy with my purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars it's a must for crisp crust!
One of two ordered stones arrived broken. It was quickly replaced and the broken one sent back.I'm not sure if I was charged and then credited or they just sent the replacement on faith. Might buy another one. It's a must for thin, crisp, crust. ... Read more

You'll feel like you deserve a chef's hat and an Italian accent when removing pizza from the oven with Sassafras's attractive wood pizza peel. Large enough for family-size pizzas, this peel easily slides under a freshly baked pizza to remove it from the oven with panache. Even if you're just reheating a ready-made pizza, the peel is an attractive, authentic way to serve it, giving a homemade feel to even frozen pizzas. Sturdily crafted with smoothly beveled edges and a beautiful finish, this peel should not go in the dishwasher. Read more

  • NATURAL WOOD
  • TAPERED EDGES
  • GREAT FOR SLIDING PIZZA IN AND OUT OF OVEN
  • SERVE AT TABLE
  • WON'T BURN YOURSELF TRYING TO GET OUT OF OVEN

5-0 out of 5 stars Pizza Peel
The pizza peel works great and we use it often. The quality of the product is top rate.My only concern is storing it as it is large (though that was obvious when we purchased it).

4-0 out of 5 stars Pizza Paddle
Nice product, but slightly thicker than expected. It is large and heavy, so you'll need two hands to carry it with a pizza on it (or maybe I'm just a woos.) Good product and otherwise serves the purpose perfectly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value; follow the instructions for care and you'll be happy.
When you purchase this item, make sure you either own or also purchase food-grade mineral oil, designed for conditioning butcher block and other wood kitchen implements.(I learned this by buying the wrong thing first: If the bottle says it's toxic or flammable, this is not the product you want! You can food-grade mineral oil online or possibly at your local grocery store.)

Editorial Review

Often homemade pizza never tastes the same as a pie from your local pizzeria. However, this baking stone is made of the same firebrick material that lines kilns and blast furnaces and duplicates the results of old stone ovens to produce superior-quality and crispy pizza crust at home with all of your favorite fixings on top. The stone heats evenly and retains heat well so pizzas stay warm for a while after they come out of the oven. The material also withstands thermal shock so uncooked pizzas prepared earlier in the day move from the refrigerator to the oven without producing cracks in the stone. The baking stone has a 16-inch diameter, which is large enough to make a family-sized pie or can also bake rolls, biscuits, or circular-shaped breads. A flat surface area makes it easy to cut and remove slices right from the baking stone. Eight circular stone feet keep the pizza stone uniformly balanced on an oven rack so cheese or toppings won’t slide off. Read more

Features

  • Bakes family-sized pizza, breads, rolls, biscuits
  • Firebrick stone duplicates results of old stone ovens
  • Heats evenly for crisp crusts; high heat retention
  • Withstands thermal shock; won¿t crack when changing temperature
  • Absorbs moisture

5-0 out of 5 stars Pizza stone
The best way to bake a pizza is with a stone. They are great at distributing heat and make a nice evenly crispy crust. This stone is also easy to clean.

4-0 out of 5 stars Expensive but well worth it
I made plenty of pizzas on several types of thin metal baking pans, and the results were consistenly mediocre.
4-0 out of 5 stars This bargain beauty works great!
I had never used a pizza stone but, thought they might be fun so, I put one on my registry. I made pizza on the stone using store bought dough and got rave reviews from friends. Would definately reccomend this to a friend! Just remember to let the stone heat thoroughly before using. ... Read more

Very nice product to use for pizza, but I'm going to use mine to transfer wedding size cake pans from the oven to the cooling racks on my kitchen's island! The large handle makes lifting the heavy pans much easier and safer than reaching way into the interior of a hot oven with your arms.

Formed of the same impact-resistant material used in the floors of commercial pizza ovens, the 13-inch ceramic pizza stone in this set absorbs moisture so pizza crusts bake crisp and brown. Bread, pretzels, and dry cookies such as biscotti also benefit from being baked on a hot, absorbent surface, so you can use the stone even when pizza isn't on the menu. The stone comes with a chrome rack to hold a pizza or focaccia bread off the table or counter when it is being served hot from the stone. Completing the three-piece set is a round pizza cutter with a stainless-steel blade and a wood handle. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Baker's Secret 3-Piece Pizza Stone Set
The surface is too small.Only enough surface area to make a pizza for 2 people. You also must cook on the bottom self of the oven to prevent the crust from burning. You can get a pizza stone at WalMart for $6.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a little small.
The stone works beautifully but is not really large enough for anything other than a personal size pizza. The pizza cutter doesn't cut well at all, just not sharp enough.
2-0 out of 5 stars it's great but you need to buy new one soon
love it and once you used the stone you never want to use other one when you bake a pizza. However it doesn't last long. I bake a pizza at least once per month maybe twice per month.after using the stone for 3-4month it will break...I had to buy three time.No matter how careful, it doesn't work. If you want to bake a perfect pizza, buy this!but if you don't want to spend $20 for buy new one every 5-6 month, don't buy this ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Mini-Pizza Stones
Need a smaller stone for use in convention oven? This one is almost too small.Frozen "individual" pizza just barely fits; if anything bubbles over, it literally bubbles over onto the oven floor.Otherwise, does as nice a job of cooking the pizza as the larger, standard size stone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Super size for toaster ovens
I wanted to use my Pampered Chef stones in my toaster oven since I don't like to heat up the big oven in the summer. These stones fit the toaster oven perfectly! You have to sand them down when they arrive as the edges are rough, but it's not too much trouble and they now work perfectly!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pizza Stones
Have had no problem with these pizza stones.Have used them on a big green egg charcoal cooker for several years now for all kinds of things. Not as fragile as pampered chef. Yes they stain.Yes, after one use they will not look new.But they cook evenly and do exactly what they are supposed to.Have no chips, breaks, or fractures.Good stuff. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Updating the historic tradition of stone baking for today's household kitchen, Sassafras offers a baking brick boasting even heat distribution and moisture absorption. Dry heat generated from stone produces crispier crust, making this ideal for preparing pizza, breads, and cookies. Although microwave- and convection-safe, the stone's 13-by-15-inch size makes it best suited to the traditional oven. Lifting and transporting are simplified with the included metal rack designed to fit snugly without slipping and provide two handles. Stoneware care consists primarily of avoiding thermal shock--extreme changes in temperature--and hand washing with hot water. It is best to avoid using cleaning agents as the stone may retain and pass on a soapy flavor. The disk can double as a serving piece and won't scratch with the use of knives and other cutting tools. Reinforcing this point, the set comes complete with a 2-1/2 inch circular pizza cutter. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disposable at best
I'm on my second Sassafras pizza stone. The first broke in half after maybe a dozen uses. The second now has distinct cracking after about a half dozen uses. I treat my kitchen tools well, following all care instructions. These are just plain dogs; don't waste your money. The only saving graces are that they're cheap and hence easy to replace, and that they really do help make good pizza.

3-0 out of 5 stars So Sad - Not The Same Sassafras
Purchased new stone to replace orignal (4 yrs. old) which cracked.Old stone had a smooth surface identical to the expensive ones carried by a well known home demonstration company.Wiped clean and never smoked when heating.Tremendously disappointed with new one - same nasty rough surface as the cheapies available anytime, anywhere. The original had the Sassafras company name and Evanston, Illinois stamped on the back...the new one says Made in Taiwan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
This stone is very functional -- works well and goes from oven to table because of its beauty. If you've never cooked on stone before, prepare to be amazed. It's a must for bread baking to develop a nice bottom crust.I also use the stone for baking French fries and other stuff.Just put the pan directly on the stone and your food will be done faster.
5-0 out of 5 stars PerfectGourmet Pizza
I have made pizza at home for years, tried regular old aluminum cookie sheets, clay pizza stones and now finally this All Clad soapstone. It is far and away superior to any other way ofcooking pizza at home. The stainless steel holder provides for easy transport in and out of the oven as everyone clamors to make the next pizza. This is a huge asset as these pizza stones are heavy and unwieldy. The hot stone gives you a crisp bottom and thoroughly cooked crust (ever get a raw in the middle job? Yuck!). Highly recommended. ... Read more

This pizza crisper by Chicago Metallic features lots of evenly spaced holes, which means--you guessed it--that your pizza will be evenly crisped. It's a smart, simple design, with a 1/2-inch sloped lip to hold the pizza in place, while the slick, nonstick surface lets the pie slide right off after crisping. It's also sturdy without being a monster to lift or store, so it won't sag under a load of toppings. And don't limit this crisper to pizza--use it for quesadillas or any secret recipes you might have that lend themselves to a circular shape. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Crispy Crust
This does a great job at evenly cooking your pizza. Also the crust comes out totally crispy, I call it my "cardboard pizza".

1-0 out of 5 stars What the heck?
I got this as a gift from Crate & Barrel and when I went to use it, I realized the holes on this tray are completely exposed. This might work ok if you're baking a *whole* pizza that has no chance of spilling/oozing over. It's definitely terrible for reheating pizza slices, as there is nothing to prevent the melted cheese from going through the pan and onto your oven. YUCK!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this pan and have bought three more
I've just bought one more for myself and two for my daughter. Read more
