I'M GLAD I WENT BACK TO A PERCOLATOR. IT TAKES UP SUCH LITTLE COUNTERSPACE. IT MAKES AS GOOD A CUP OF COFFEE AS ANY DRIPMAKER I'VE HAD OVER THE YEARS. I FIND THE RECENT ADDITION OF AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF TO COFFEE MAKERS ANNOYING. THIS PEROLATOR DOES NOT HAVE THAT FEATURE. THE ONLY THING I WOULD CHANGE ABOUT THIS POT IS, ADD AN ON/OFF SWITCH SOMEWHERE ON THE POT BASE OR IN THE CORD ITSELF, SO IT WOULDN'T NEED TO BE UNPLUGGED EVERYTIME TO SHUT IT OFF. BREWING TIME IS FAST, IT'S EASY TO CLEAN. LOVE THIS COFFEEMAKER!!

Still not sure if it's worth the $$$
Makes a decent cup of coffee. A couple of problems, though. There is usually a lot of grounds left in the coffee after perking, even after using the most coarse-ground coffee I could. The other downfall is that the top knob was reveiwed as being glass--it's not, it's plastic. This was a major decision in my buying this particular pot, since I know that the plastic ones break very easily. The coffee does come out piping hot, and more richer tasting than the drip style I've always used. Because of this, I gave it an extra star. Still not so sure it was worth the $85 I shelled out...

Great urn...and new top!
I just wanted people to know that it looks like Melitta has replaced the glass knob with a plastic knob.Obviously from the reviews the glass knob was a problem.There isn't a problem with the plastic one..but it is ugly.It does not fit with the overall good look of the coffee urn.If I was buying this to sit on my table - I would think twice.But, it sits on a counter and I'm not concerned.But, at least I know it won't break.Besides that ...the urn works great!

Great Product!
Our church purchased this coffee urn a few years ago and it is used weekly for coffee at church. We have been pleased with it's overall performance; however the glass knob recently cracked and I have emailed Melitta.com regarding where we can obtain a replacement. I hope we are as fortunate as Mr. Barlett from Norfolk, VA who wrote that Melitta provided them one free of charge! I should have read the reviews.The time span for life of this product is about a month.I gave one to my mother for Christmas and it is already dead.Will not heat.I would give it less than one star.

Purchased two pots, the first broke after one use.The second stop working after the third pot of coffee.Quality control lacking.

I am very disappointed with this product. I wanted a small, handy hot pot to heat water for coffee/tea/soup at home or traveling. I used it almost everyday, once or twice a day. Too hot lid knob, too cool thermostat setting.
I purchased this item to replace my 25-year old Farberware electric skillet.The stainless steel cooking surface is much better than the non-stick coating found in other skillets because I can use metal utensils and it cleans up wonderfully.However, the legs are in a one piece "x" and seem more fragile than the old four separate legs on the old models.I also must set the thermostat quite a bit higher than a recipe (and my experience) calls for in order to reach the correct cooking temperature.It seems to be around 25 to 40 degrees off.The most serious and potentially dangerous feature is the metal knob/handle on top of the lid.It gets very hot, unlike the old melmac-like handles.I have burned my hand several times on this knob.It takes awhile to re-program my thinking to pick up a hot pad before lifting the lid.I recommend this product with reservations because of the hot lid knob.Perhaps you can find an old knob that will fit this skillet. ...
