5-0 out of 5 stars How did I live without it??
This gadget has got the be the coolest thing I have bought for my kitchen in years (and I buy A LOT of things for my kitchen)! We are getting ready to make apple butter for the first time (my husband misses his grandmother's homemade apple butter from PA) and I wasn't looking forward to peeling, coring, and cutting bushels of apples.I saw this and figured it was worth the money to save my sanity! We got it last night and grabbed a few apples to test out... it works PERFECTLY!Even the kids are able to use it with no problems. They were all sitting at the table with their own apple cut into a spiral in minutes.AMAZING!My husband is excited... now not only will he get his apple butter, but I will bake apple pies a lot more often!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great product, but don't buy it here
This is a great peeler.Cook's Illustrated rated it as the best mechanical peeler.I had a very similar looking one that I bought last year, but it wasn't as well made as the A505 and it didn't work as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best ever
Just purchased this item.I truely don't know what I did before I got it.It takes about 7 minutes to peel enough apples for an entire pie.It does absolutely great peeling potatoes... especially the ones you skin your knuckles on with a conventional peeler. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very, very sharp
The design of this peeler is excellent. It's easy to grip, and you can reverse or replace the blade. But what really counts is the blade is sharp! Razor sharp! It works so easily it doesn't feel as if you're actually cutting. It comes with a plastic shield for the blade. I suggest you keep it and use it when you store the peeler to preserve that marvelous edge.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a very good peeler
I used it to peel an apple, and it worked great!I didn't know that peelers could do that.It is very well made, and very sharp.I would expect it to last maybe 20 years based on my twice a week or so usage.

5-0 out of 5 stars oxo good grips peeler
I found this peeler to be of outstanding construction. It is easy to use and cleans easily.I am happy with my new purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just a GREAT peeler
I am a fan of this "style" peeler as they are typically easier to hold. I would have to say this is the best peeler I have owned. Over my 25 years of cooking I have had about a dozen different brands of this type of peeler. This one is super sharp, easy to hold, and best of all you can replace the blades when needed in the future. The only downside, if you can call it that, is that it takes a thicker peel than other similar peelers. I would recommend this to anyone who peels vegetables on a regular basis, it will save you time! It's also wonderful if you want thin strips of carrot or cucumber for salads, that is the positive side of a slightly thicker peel.

5-0 out of 5 stars great product
If you are shopping for a wonderful peeler that really does a great job this is the one. It is built in a sturdy way and has a replaceable blade. It does a great job on difficult peels. The one caution I would give is that since I get cuts all over whenever I use a peeler for this one, the cut will be stronger than another peeler. Therefore do what I did.

2-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating, dulls quickly
I have used this peeler only a few times and it is already quite dull. It is now practically impossible to peel an apple with it, although on straight peels, like carrots, it still works like any other mediocre peeler. Also, the "swivel" never really worked well. It was always difficult to peel a curved surface like an apple with this thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny
This peeler rocks. No more holding onto a tiny handle and cramping up.Peeling done easily, quickly and cleanly.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Peeler I've ever used
I bought one for my mother some years ago due to her arthritis. It worked for her. I bought one for myself and then for all my family members. I don't wish to spend much of my life peeling veggies, but when I do it has to be this product. The soft grip is very helpful in avoiding discomfort, fatigue, and pain. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This odd-looking contraption peels, cores, and slices a basket of apples for a tarte, a crisp, or fritters in less time and with less effort than can be done by hand. The old-fashioned apple peeler has a suction cup bottom to keep it steady on a work surface and a clamp to secure it to the edge of a counter or cutting board. To use, skewer an apple on the end of the apple peeler’s three-pronged fork with the tines positioned around the core of the apple. Next, swing the arm that holds the peeling blade toward the apple so it’s just grazing the skin. Start turning the apple corer’s hand crank and the machine simultaneously removes the apple’s skin and core while cutting it into narrow slices that are perfect for pie and desserts or dehydrating. A release button helps you to easily remove your finished apple from the fork. This apple peeler/corer is made of sturdy aluminum and weighs four pounds. Progressive provides an extra blade with the tool and covers it under a five-year warranty. Read more

Features

  • Cast iron
  • Mount to your counter or tabletop and peel, core and slice apples in seconds
  • Includes a comfortable hardwood handle and an extra peeling blade
  • Perfect for making pie fillings or a healthy snack

4-0 out of 5 stars Works ok BUT...
I'm not sorry that I purchased it. It works, but I think that it could work better. When beginning to turn it, I find myself having to push on the blade to get a good peel going. The blade does skip here and there. I don't think the arm is heavy enough and doesn't press against the apple like it could. I find that it skips here and there and that I have to go back and repeel some times. I'll keep this one! Not too bad. A heck of a lot better than peeling by hand. Much faster too. easy to clean up.

3-0 out of 5 stars apple peeler, slicer & corer
I have had other kinds of peelers before but this one works wonderfully.I peeled a bushel of apples in just a couple of hours.Works GREAT!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great design but a pain to clean
The apple peeler and corer does what it says it does pretty well. However it has a couple of serious flaws, it is difficult to remove apple cores from the prongs, I cut my thumb badly trying to do this.More generally the design makes it very difficult to get clean and dry and, because it is made of steel, drying it well is essential. Despite my best efforts the central shaft on mine has rusted.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine Product
I received my pealer about 4 months ago as a replacement for an old electric pealer that just "gave out".I have had rheumatoid arthritis for over 40 years and my hands cannot hold a potato secure enough to be able to peal without pain. This product isa good update to my old one.It seems a little light in weight and the blade gets dull quickly, however, it does a good job. I sure am happy to have it.Worth the cost.
2-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BUT CHEAP!!!!!!!

Soft-skinned fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, pears, and kiwi might be mangled by a conventional peeler. The serrated double-edged blade on this model slices away rather than saws at delicate produce. The steel blade easily follows the contours of smaller items, meaning it’s also great for removing tough skins from ginger. Double edges allow a back-and-forth peeling motion as well as left- or right-handed use. The extra-sharp steel tip is ideal for removing produce blemishes before cooking. This peeler is dishwasher-safe and features a comfortable, precise grip. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the invention to slice bread!
To my surprise, this peeler works fantastically on ripe tomatoes!Have given one to everyone in the family. Initially, only one member of the family greatly preferred tomatoes peeled; now everyone does! It's actually easier to peel than to slice unpeeled tomatoes. It takes off only a thin section of skin.Recommend very highly.

2-0 out of 5 stars Zyliss Soft Skin Peeler
I am disappointed in the product.Maybe I don't know exactly how to use the peeler.I will continue to try.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kitchen Essential
The Zyliss Soft Skin Peeler is definitely an essential tool for the kitchen.I have used it to peel tomatoes, pears, mangoes, and ginger with excellent results. The swivel head makes it easy to follow the shape of the item, even the ginger, the sharp serrated teeth on the blade easily grips the skin, and the tip does a great job of removing bad spots from produce.I recently peeled really soft mangoes with it, expecting that it would be a mess, but the peeler took away the skin with no problem, and the mangoes were left intact. It's refreshing to have tools that aid in food preparation and that deliver consistent results.Anyone that uses soft skinned produce will appreciate this peeler. The impeccable performance and the easy grip handle make the process of peeling soft skinned fruits and vegetables much easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice peeler and zester.
I bought this about a year ago, even though I already own two other peelers. I've just never been happy with our other peelers though. They were both grocery store bought and they're just too skinny and wobbly. My hands would always ache after a short time. Peeling carrots for juice was basically torture. Well, not anymore! This thing is like the Cadillac of peelers. I can zip through a bag of carrots in no time at all. I even use it for peeling potatoes, which I'd always used a knife before. My mom fell in-love with it too, and I wound up buying the set for her for Christmas. The zester is also very nice. I've become very fond of Kitchen Aid's gadgets. They cost a little more, but I have found them to be rugged plus they feel good in your hands.

This KitchenAid peeler is the BEST one that I have ever used!!I have used several peelers, recently electric ones which had been better than the cheap ones in the past.I happened to find a set like this one on sale, so I thought I would try it.Let's say that I now have two, and will always use it as long as KitchenAid makes it.I haven't used the zester that much, but I got good results with it also. One more thing: anyone who has arthritis in his or her hands like I do, this duo is perfect!

I love to julienne a lot of my vegetables but it can be a pain. This makes it a LOT easier and my fingers don't hurt after I'm done (when I used the knife). It's a nifty little tool and it's affordable.

I bought the Good Grips julienne peeler because it was a few dollars cheaper than Kuhn Rikon's.I tried it on potatoes, cheese, and cucumbers.By the time I was done, it had twisted some of its teeth. Also, it's really easy to nick your skin with this.I'm wondering if the Kuhn Rikon julienne peeler would be better -- if there's some added quality that comes with the higher price. ... Editorial Review

This durable stainless-steel tool peels carrots, waxy cucumbers, potatoes, and peaches deftly and quickly. The peeler's oval handle is channeled to provide a sure grip even when wet, and the hanging loop at the handle's end is cleverly angled so that the 8-inch peeler lies flat against the wall when hung on a peg or a hook. It's also dishwasher-safe. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's worth the money
A few years ago I was at an upscale department store, desperately5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Peeler!
Take it from a "Kitchen Gadget Queen", this peeler is fantastic!!The Pedrini Acciaio Stainless Steel Peeler is the best peeler that I have ever used. When I took it out of the box, I had little faith that it would work, because of the protector that covers the peeler end. Most peelers that have protector's back up with food while you peel, and they end up being useless, but not The Pedrini Acciaio Stainless Steel Peeler. The only thing the protector did was what the engineering design planned on - it protected my digits and knuckles!! Now, I know that [this] is pricey for a peeler, but it is worth every penny. ... Read more

One of Rösle's superb kitchen tools, this 7-1/2-inchfruit and vegetable peeler has two slots in its head to suit bothright- and left-handers and a point sharpened on both sides forremoving potato eyes and other blemishes. 5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money
We eat a lot of fruits and vegetables so much peeling is done at home. We have Oxo and Wusthof peelers, both of which seemed just fine until I was cooking at a friend's house and was able to try Rosle's. There really is no comparison: the balance is absolutely perfect, which makes a swivel-head unecessary. And yes, the pointed tip and razor-sharp cutting edges are fantastic: My friend's peeler is 10 years old and the cutting edges are still much sharper and precise than mine, which are only 1 and 3 years old. And she keeps it in an unorganized drawer knocking around with ladles and other metal objects; it doesn't have any nicks or scratches on it despite the abuse.
5-0 out of 5 stars The BMW of vegetable peelers.
Sleek, strong, finely crafted, stylish and fast. This lowly kitchen instrument aspires to higher things. It's beautiful to look at, with its shiny brushed stainless handle. The heft of it is a hint at how firm and sturdy it feels when it's being used. The peeling blades are razor sharp and glide over surfaces with a smooth, swift feel.A very nice extra is that the point of the peeler, for potato eye removal, is very sharp and actually works, unlike most so-called potato eyers. The fixed blade gives firm control over the direction of the cut; swivel peelers tend to wander around.I couldn't help the BMW comparison, because of its sleek design, speed and control as you change direction -- quick handling in the curves, so to speak.I find it a pleasure to use.I've had it for about two months, and I'm still having fun with it, looking for recipes that call for peeling vegetables. The price isn't cheap for a veggie peeler, but it's about forty thousand dollars less than the car, and you'll have the fastest, sportiest, most luxurious vegetable peeler out there.I've already ordered another, for when one is in the dishwasher.Luxury on a budget, real bang for your buck.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars I think it's worth it
A great peeler; I don't know how the other reviewer doesn't like it.Note that it has a fixed head so you have to hold it at the right angle to peel, but when you do, it works perfectly.I used to use a knife to peel everything except carrots, but now use this as it's quick and easy. Can peel an apple in one piece, as with a knife, which I could never do with a swivel peeler.Very sharp blade.I use this all the time & love it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Kuhn Y peeler
I have used my peeler for over 10 years and have found it to be the best, the sharpest, and the easiest to get into tight spaces (such as around baby carrot tops). I have searched local stores purchasing at least 6 potential replacements over the years and the closest match is a Japanese ceramic Y which is 4X the cost. The others have been passed on to friends and relatives (and a few enemies). A great value. Having read the other review, I concur with the weight observation; but find that I prefer the light weight.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good, Inexpensive Y type peelers.
Before getting these slingshot shaped peelers, I was totally committed to my straight design, specifically the excellent Oxo Good Grips model with which I can whittle off the skin of an apple or spud with a single uninterrupted stroke, giving a single ribbon easy to chuck into the trash.

5-0 out of 5 stars This peeler is AMAZING!!!
I first used this peeler at a Viking Culinary cooking class and it knocked my socks off! I've always hated to peel veggies and am the lazy type who leaves the skin on for mashed potatoes.
