Professional pizza and traditional European bread ovens are often lined with stone or brick. This is so heat is stored up and redistributed evenly. The resulting blast of heat from the Old Stone Oven rectangular pizza stone gives bread and pizza a nice chewy crust. The rustic French tarts called galettes are also well suited to a baking stone. To use the stone, place it in a cold oven and preheat to 500 degrees for pizza, or according to the recipe for bread or galettes. The stone is made of the same material that lines blast furnaces and kilns, so it can handle ultra-high temperatures.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars At last! A home-made pizza worth eating!
I was helped in choosing this pizza stone by the hundreds of online reviews and suggestions posted by people from all over. Well, they were all right. Excellent item. I bought two stones and used them simultaneously for the first two homemade pizzas of my life... DELICIOUS! As others have suggested, I never remove the stone from the oven, and lately I just placed a pan containing the dough for an olive focaccia and it came out perfectly done. I am convinced that the stone works its magic also when not used to bake directly on it. I am extremely happy so far and I'd highly recommend this item. Buon Appetito!

I can't believe how fast I received my pizza stone and the way it was packaged was great.I've use pizza stones before and loved the way they even out the heat in the oven and the cripy crust that it gives.I'll very happy with my purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars it's a must for crisp crust!
One of two ordered stones arrived broken. It was quickly replaced and the broken one sent back.I'm not sure if I was charged and then credited or they just sent the replacement on faith. Might buy another one. It's a must for thin, crisp, crust. ... Read more

You'll feel like you deserve a chef's hat and an Italian accent when removing pizza from the oven with Sassafras's attractive wood pizza peel. Large enough for family-size pizzas, this peel easily slides under a freshly baked pizza to remove it from the oven with panache. Even if you're just reheating a ready-made pizza, the peel is an attractive, authentic way to serve it, giving a homemade feel to even frozen pizzas. Sturdily crafted with smoothly beveled edges and a beautiful finish, this peel should not go in the dishwasher. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pizza Peel
The pizza peel works great and we use it often. The quality of the product is top rate.My only concern is storing it as it is large (though that was obvious when we purchased it).

4-0 out of 5 stars Pizza Paddle
Nice product, but slightly thicker than expected. It is large and heavy, so you'll need two hands to carry it with a pizza on it (or maybe I'm just a woos.) Good product and otherwise serves the purpose perfectly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value; follow the instructions for care and you'll be happy.
When you purchase this item, make sure you either own or also purchase food-grade mineral oil, designed for conditioning butcher block and other wood kitchen implements.(I learned this by buying the wrong thing first: If the bottle says it's toxic or flammable, this is not the product you want! You can food-grade mineral oil online or possibly at your local grocery store.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product
I purchased this about 7 or 8 months ago and because I desired to make my own pasta.I began using the roller without experience. The first time I used it, I made ravioli, which was very delicious. The part I've never been good at is making the dough, and I finally found a good book called The Pasta Bible by Rizzi et al. That book helped me, but I'm still not perfect. The dough recipes always seem to require too much flour.
5-0 out of 5 stars Home made = Wonderful
These could not be easier to use, the instruction easier to understand or the pasta more fresh! I find I can actually make fresh pasta about as fast as I can make dry.Get the water on the stove at the same time you make the pasta dough.By the time the water boils you are rolling the pasta.Wonderful.

We've had this for a couple of years now: excellent, high quality product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Extruded pasta -- for rolled pasta, get a crank roller!
We make a lot of pasta at our house.Because of arthritus in my hands, hand kneeding is out of the question -- so to make up a batch of dough, I use either my Simac -- my bread machine -- or my food processor.Any of the three will make acceptable pasta dough. However you do need to know going in that the dough is going to be tougher, harder, and less pliable than any bread or cookie dough. It's basically a damp flour rock.
4-0 out of 5 stars EASY PASTA
I'm not sure what the other complaints are about. There are no new pasta makers on the market and this was previously considered the best. This is not a "pasta for dummies" machine. You need to use common sense and alrady feel comfortable cooking. But is is a million times easier than pasta from scratch.I love this machine and will use it for years to come. . .

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
I bought the Simac MX700 PastaMatic Pasta Maker to replace my Cuisinart pasta maker. My Cuisinart was a bull at making pasta. It made 1-1/2 pounds at a time and was never a problem.I do not feel the same way about the Simac.Mine would overheat during extruding. Also, it barely made enough pasta to feed my family of 4.It finally died after 1-1/2 years of use. When I say died I mean it started smoking and making very strange noises. Also, there is no way I was going to send it back to Italy for service. I have resigned myself to purchasing homemade pasta at the store. I wish I could find a better pasta machine. What I really wish is that Cuisinart still made a pasta machine. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Often homemade pizza never tastes the same as a pie from your local pizzeria. However, this baking stone is made of the same firebrick material that lines kilns and blast furnaces and duplicates the results of old stone ovens to produce superior-quality and crispy pizza crust at home with all of your favorite fixings on top. The stone heats evenly and retains heat well so pizzas stay warm for a while after they come out of the oven. The material also withstands thermal shock so uncooked pizzas prepared earlier in the day move from the refrigerator to the oven without producing cracks in the stone. The baking stone has a 16-inch diameter, which is large enough to make a family-sized pie or can also bake rolls, biscuits, or circular-shaped breads. A flat surface area makes it easy to cut and remove slices right from the baking stone. Eight circular stone feet keep the pizza stone uniformly balanced on an oven rack so cheese or toppings won’t slide off. Read more

The best way to bake a pizza is with a stone. They are great at distributing heat and make a nice evenly crispy crust. This stone is also easy to clean.

I bought this pasta machine 6 months ago, and I've used it at least once or twice a month ever since. I also bought one for my mother and taught her how to use it. This machine really just replaces a rolling pin and a big knife for cutting noodles (how my mom has been making hers).

With a thick stainless-steel blade beveled to a sharp edge, this sturdy wheel-type cutter rolls through pizza, fudge, lasagna, and other foods, dividing them into neat serving portions. The cutter has a finger guard and a stylish, black enamel-like handle. It's made of 18/8 stainless steel polished to a mirror finish and is dishwasher-safe. The wheel is 4 inches in diameter for quick work; overall, the cutter is 9 inches long. (KitchenAid also makes a smaller version of the cutter, with a 3-inch-diameter wheel. This larger wheel cuts a bit quicker, but the smaller wheel is easier for small-handed cooks and children.) KitchenAid says the first year of the cutter's lifetime warranty against defects is "hassle-free," with a replacement shipped at no cost and without question if a defect is detected. Read more

We've had a Pampered Chef pizza wheel for years and thought it the best on the market. It's getting dull and I thought a new wheel would be a good idea for my pizza making husband.I checked online and found several reviews for the KitchenAid Large Pizza Wheel, some even stating that it was better than the Pampered Chef one.So, I decided to give it a try.Our pizza chef thinks it's great. It cuts well and feels substantial in the hand. The reviews are right, it is the best.

I add lots of cheese to my pizzas and it tends to get all over the pan. With other pans, the cheese sticks and I have to pry the pizza off with a spatula. BUT NOT THIS ONE!!It just slides right off with one shake. My party pizzas come out crisp and heated evenly. Also, I have cut my pizzas on this pan and there was barely a scratch on it.Very heavyweight with no warping. What a buy!

This is my second pizza cutter in my entire life. It is everything I thought it would be and more. I love the grippy handle and the huge wheel. I use it on my home made pizza. Yes, I make the dough from scratch along with everything else. It cuts my dough to perfectlion. I don't buy pizza from the store or from chains, so I don't know how it would work on other pizzas. I think that if it was used on store-bought pizza it might be comparable to cutting through a cardboard box. That is not what this item is designed to do. Use a box cutter for that. Overall it is highly recommended by me. Keep in mind that I also make whole wheat dough and like it extra crispy. It does beautiful job.

Making your own pasta is enough of an adventure without having to find places to hang it out to dry. That's what all those clotheslines in Italy are used for when they're not drying clothes. This wooden rack takes about 10 minutes to put together (really) with a Phillips screwdriver. It stands 15 inches high, and has 12 wooden dowels upon which you can hang your fettuccine, spaghetti, capellini, and the like. Go for it. Making fresh pasta is fun and worth it--and if it doesn't work out, you can always use it to hang your socks out to dry. Ciao! Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive, convenient
I've had one of these for about 10 years now, and it works fine.I have to admit when I first bought it, I was a little taken aback at how flimsy it was. However, as another reviewer pointed out, you're holding a few ounces of pasta, not a 10 pound roast. As for those who say the dowels are too close together, you need to use your noodle (pun intended) and learn how to think a little.I actually like how this one works.Unlike other dryers, the dowels are easily removed from the rack.I start with all the dowels out of the rack.I pick up a dowel, and when the pasta from my extruder or roller is the right length, I just drape it over the dowel, cut it off the pasta machine, and repeat until the dowel is full. Then I place it in the rack, pick up another dowel and repeat. When the pasta is dry, I just hold the dowel over a pot of boiling water or a freezer bag, and slide the pasta off.No big deal.
3-0 out of 5 stars pasta dryer
I feel this product is poorly constructed. I would like it better if I was able to fold it for storage.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pay twelve dollars for two dollars worth of wood
Oh boy. Did I ever get taken with this. I opened the box and out came tumbling an assorted quantity of wooden dowels, frame sticks and cheap screws. Well, I bought it so I might as well put it together. The result is a cheap "pasta dryer" made of cheap wood. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, as they say and you can't make a good product out of wood that looks like it is made from scrap wood. This pasta dryer is flimsy and cheap. Hanging pasta on it is a pain and the wood screws start to rust. I'll be using this stupid thing as firewood for the winter. This product should be taken off Amazon. It is a sham. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Even the longest fresh fettuccine or linguine won't touch the counter when draped on the arms of this sturdy pasta drying rack. The rack stands 16-1/2 inches high, including a heavy, stable, 7/8-inch-thick base. Assembly (and disassembly for storage) is simple. The 3/4-inch center post screws into the base. Four 18-inch dowels then slide through holes in the post, providing eight arms--cunningly angled so they don't interfere with one another--on which to hang fresh pasta to dry before going into the pot, refrigerator, or freezer. As is traditional, the rack is made of unfinished wood so pasta strands don't slide off. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple design, but very effective
I love this pasta rack! Before I bought this pasta rack, I was forced to dry my pasta on the counter.I would sprinkle the counter with flour and then begin the layering of the pasta, the towels and the flour. In other words, it was a big mess. But now, since I bought the Norpro Pasta Drying Rack, pasta drying is a cinch and very easy to clean up.As soon as I roll out and cut the pasta dough, I simply drape it over the wooden dowels to dry.No flour, no towels, no mess.I usually make two lbs of pasta and have never run out of room on the rack.I know that the design is very simple and the wood is not the strongest on the market, but it really serves its purpose and serves it well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Convenient
This pasta drier is very convenient, but be warned that it is only big enough to hold about 4-6 servings of spaghetti. One thing I love about this drier is that it comes apart very easily with no tools and can be stored in a drawer.
5-0 out of 5 stars Norpro Pasta Drying Rack is a lifesaver
This is a great pasta drying rack!I have limited counter space, so I got one of these to help and it works SO nice! It's easy to set up, easy to use, easy to store - I don't have a bad thing to say about it.Highly recommend! ... Read more

These sturdy plastic plates work in place of the metal cutters of your food grinder to produce thin and thick spaghetti noodles, thin flat noodles, wider lasagna noodles, and macaroni. Turn the mixer speed to 10, drop walnut-size pieces of dough into the food tray, and catch the noodles as they're extruded through the plates. When you're through, put them in the dishwasher. Then store them neatly and easily in the included case, which doubles as a food stomper. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pasta plates
We received our pasta plates in a timely manner.Although there was one plate missing from the package, a telephone call to a representative of the company brought the plate to us immediately. The whole process of ordering was quite pleasant.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Product, So-So Usability
This attachment is easy to use and, more importantly for homemade pasta lovers, it is easy to clean. It's made of durable plastic resin and and comes with a space-saving storage design. The biggest drawback is that it comes with pretty boring plates: Two types of spaghetti, macaroni, lasagna, and egg noodle.Would have been far cooler if they had included plates for a large gauge rigatoni and a fusilli.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
Even if you already own the food grinder don't waste your money on the pasta attachment.Since this is more of an extrusion pasta maker, the pasta does not get the nice thin texture that is necessary in fresh pasta.I made lasagna noodles from this attachment and had to roll out every noodle by hand after it had been extruded because it wasn't thin enough.

Just call it "Ravioli-Making for Dummies." I certainly qualify, having admired but never attempted this tricky-looking Italian entrée. Yet within half an hour, I had made and rolled out a sheet of pasta dough (the recipe is in the kit); laid it over the metal ravioli mold; used the plastic mold to indent the dough; filled the indentations with a three-cheese mixture (recipe also in the kit); laid a second pasta sheet on top; and rolled over it with the rolling pin to seal the dough casings. I turned the metal mold over, and out plopped 10 perfect, plump ravioli, which tasted delicious after several minutes of boiling. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I would NOT recommend this product
I had a hard time with this product. The item does not cut the dough well and the ravioli kept opening as a result of this. In my opinion, I like the size of a 12 count ravioli maker better. This 10 count makes ravioli thats too large.

4-0 out of 5 stars A couple tips...
I have used this a few times, and found I needed to lightly brush the metal mold with oil before laying down the first sheet of pasta, or else the dough stuck and was difficult to remove. Also, I think brushing the edges around the filling with egg or water will help give a better seal.I make 40 raviolis at a time and they have all kept their contents from spilling out into the boiling water. It takes me about 2 hours to get the job done from making the pasta to cooking the raviolis (I use the KA pasta attachment which is wonderful). It's actually a bit of work, but the taste is otherworldly and definately worth it when you can spare the time.

4-0 out of 5 stars VillaWare Ravioli Maker
I bought this to use with the KA pasta roller attachment. My ravioli have been perfect. My only complaint is that it doesn't seem sharp enough to easily cut the ravioli. I go over and over with my rolling pin and still have to do final cutting with my pizza wheel. If not for this, it would be 5 stars plus. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Updating the historic tradition of stone baking for today's household kitchen, Sassafras offers a deep dish baker boasting even heat distribution and moisture absorption. Dry heat generated from stone produces crispier dough, making it ideal for preparing pizza, pies, and quiches. Although microwave- and convection-safe, leveraging the stone's qualities is best accomplished with use in a traditional oven. Stoneware care consists primarily of avoiding thermal shock--extreme changes in temperature--and hand washing with hot water. It is best to avoid using cleaning agents as the stone may retain and pass on a soapy flavor. The scratch-resistant dish measures 11 by 11 by 2 inches and can double as a serving piece to keep food warm longer. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME DEEP DISH PIZZA
I've prided myself on my homemade pizza for years. It's something I take very seriously no matter if I am making my dough from scratch, or if time doesn't permit, using pre-made refridgerated dough. Now I've used all sorts of pizza pans to bake my pies from the round aluminum sheets, to the large round sheets with the holes in them, to the rectangular pans that pizzerias use for deep dish pizza. Bottom line is that none of them gave as true a pizzeria taste as when I used a baking stone. But if there's one drawback I had from using my stone is was my love of deep dish pizza. You could make some thick doughs on the stone, but ultimately you usually ended up with a very thick crust at the edges while the cheese, sauce, and other items all slid to the center of the pie.

Formed of the same impact-resistant material used in the floors of commercial pizza ovens, the 13-inch ceramic pizza stone in this set absorbs moisture so pizza crusts bake crisp and brown. Bread, pretzels, and dry cookies such as biscotti also benefit from being baked on a hot, absorbent surface, so you can use the stone even when pizza isn't on the menu. The stone comes with a chrome rack to hold a pizza or focaccia bread off the table or counter when it is being served hot from the stone. Completing the three-piece set is a round pizza cutter with a stainless-steel blade and a wood handle. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Baker's Secret 3-Piece Pizza Stone Set
The surface is too small.Only enough surface area to make a pizza for 2 people. You also must cook on the bottom self of the oven to prevent the crust from burning. You can get a pizza stone at WalMart for $6.

    4-0 out of 5 stars It's a little small.
The stone works beautifully but is not really large enough for anything other than a personal size pizza. The pizza cutter doesn't cut well at all, just not sharp enough.
2-0 out of 5 stars it's great but you need to buy new one soon
love it and once you used the stone you never want to use other one when you bake a pizza. However it doesn't last long. I bake a pizza at least once per month maybe twice per month.after using the stone for 3-4month it will break...I had to buy three time.No matter how careful, it doesn't work. If you want to bake a perfect pizza, buy this!but if you don't want to spend $20 for buy new one every 5-6 month, don't buy this ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as scary as other reviewers say
I received this as a wedding gift, along with my Kitchenaid mixer, around 11 months ago. After reading all the reviews I decided I had better try it before my warranty is up if it was in fact going to destroy my mixer. I was extremely nervous about it sticking, about it burning up the motor, about making a complete mess of my kitchen, and about wasting time. Granted I did have my husband helping me, but nevertheless I think it was way easier than others described it, and in the future I think I could do it myself (just turn off the mixer when you need to separate the noodles). You have to follow the instructions exactly-sift the flour, lay the noodles down to separate, etc. But otherwise after a couple of tries we got the hang of it right away. I've never used any other type of pasta maker, and I haven't used the meat grinder, but found this attachment to be much better than others have stated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good machine but missing parts
The item in itself is quite wonderful with the exception that the wooden food pusher was missing from the food grinder attachment. A replacement was requested but the wrong set was sent, the pasta maker only and not the food grinder which contained the missing part. I gave up as going back and forth to the post office to mail returns is not straight forward. This is not Kitchen Aid's fault of course but the suppliers - Amazon.
4-0 out of 5 stars SOME GOOD, SOME NOT SO GOOD
I bought this product because of its dual function of grinding food and extruding pasta. The thought of having the ability to grind my own meat (always better tasting!)had great appeal to me as well as being able to make fresh pasta.I have used this item for both several times and I am completely satisfied with the grinders ability to grind meat.I have read reviews from some that this function of the grinder was not worth the money or the effort.I disagree.I have had NO PROBLEMS grinding meat. The key is not to overstuff the grinder itself.Cut the meat in strips (not cubes) and, one at a time, place them in the feeder chute and the grinder will feed itself. There is not even any need to "stuff" the meat down into the auger. In other words, follow directions and the grinder plastic housing will not break (no need to even put weight on it!), nothing will back up into the mixerr housing itself, and the meat will not become clogged in the feeder.A little patience will go a long way to adding life to this product.
