5-0 out of 5 stars Knife Expert Approved; Multi-Functional and Durable
I am a stage performer as well as a chef. I specialize in contortion and throwing knives (often with my feet). I use the Wusthof so much in the kitchen, that I thought I would incorporate it into my act. I throw the knives at flying fruit and vegis and perform flips with knives between my toes and fling them at my assistants. Throwing knives are usually smaller, perfectly balanced, and forged from one solid piece. They require perfect tang as well and incredible strength. Wusthof is the ONLY high-end kitchen knife that meets these requirements.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
I gave this knife to my dad for fathers' day, and he seems very happy with it.In the few times I have used this knife, I have been very impressed. The blade is so sharp that it actually cut into one of our cutting boards!Overall, a very multi-functional, suberbly made knife.

Editorial Review

For peeling a Granny Smith apple or a fruit with a tougher skin, the swivel peeler by Oxo is an essential tool. Its rotating, flexible stainless steel blades contour to almost any surface. It's got an oversize handle opening for hanging storage, and its built-in potato eye remover lets you carve out blemishes without digging. The blade size and excellent handle make the paring knife equally essential. With a sharp, tapered stainless-steel blade, it's designed for smaller jobs, slicing through fruits and paring vegetables with ease. The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands, while providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material as dishwasher gaskets are constructed of, the handles are slip-proof, wet or dry, as well as dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Peeler/Parer Set
I love the peeler, which is why I bought it to begin with, but the parer rusted the first time I put it in the dishwasher. The peeler did not. Although if you know anything about knives then you know that you aren't supposed wash them in the dishwasher. But I have done it for years, and it's almost like a test to see how great they actually are. They are both very sharp.

5-0 out of 5 stars comfortably functional
The handles on both the items make them very comfortable to use; but one does have to get used to them. Initially, they seem a little bulky in the hand, but after some time, that is what makes them so comfortable. The peeler, especially, is way better than the other (routine) peelers I've had and it has a niftly tip that works well on potato-eyes. I use them almost everyday, and both have stayed sharp and without problems in the few weeks I've had them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for smaller hands
After getting the paring knife as a wedding present, I fell in love with oxo's handles. For mother's day last year, I purchased this set for my mother and my mother-in-law.Both have small hands and greatly appreciated their ease of use. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I won't stretch your credulity....This is not a Henckels 4-Star...
but it is a quality brand, hefty, sharp and best of all, forged.Chicago Cutlery is producing these in China, so at 1/5 the price of the Henckels, there is still a pretty nice profit.I have found other knives in this set need a good honing after each use and may need sharpening more often. That being said, this is still a great value.I would rate it a notch above the highly rated Farberware forged knives. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best knife I have ever owned
This is the best and most useful knife I have ever owned. My hands are small and I delight at a nice well balanced untensil such as this one. Excellent, everyone needs one of these if they spend any time in the kitchen !!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very sharp in terms of blade edge and looks.
I just recently purchased this knife and I was blown away. I am used to crappy knives - you know, those hand-me-downs that always get chucked into the back of the drawer... well not anymore! This knife is very sharp and easy to maintain.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm cookin' for a livin'...
This is the perfect size for a versatile paring knife and the 4 Star line is the most underrated line on this sight. When a rookie comes to work in my kitchen and asks me what line of knives to invest in I send 'em here for 4 Starz. These are the knives I started with in 1979 and I still use an 8 inch chef's.Read more

This handy little three-inch knife is a true kitchen essential. Ideal for trimming, peeling, and removing blemishes on fruits and vegetables, its small size and nimble profile excel at any task that prizes delicacy, dexterity, and control. As a part of Chicago Cutlery’s Walnut Tradition line of cutlery, this knife combines high performance with excellent value. Stamped rather than forged for lighter weight and a more reasonable price, the blade is made from high-carbon, 420 stainless steel with carbon to keep edges sharper longer and chromium to resist rust and stains, while Chicago’s exclusive Taper Grind edge produces impressively precise slices and retains its sharpness well over time. A full tang extends from the tip of the knife to the end of the handle for improved balance and strength. A comfortable walnut handle offers the rich warmth of wood and a classic look; it’s securely held to the blade with triple-compression brass rivets for added safety and stability. Chicago Cutlery covers their knives with a lifetime guarantee; they recommend hand-washing and drying for best results. Read more

Second only to the chef’s knife for versatility, this petite three-inch knife will be the second most used blade in your kitchen. Ideal for trimming, peeling, cleaning, and removing blemishes on fruits and vegetables, its small size and nimble profile excel at any task that prizes delicacy, dexterity, and control. Chicago Cutlery’s Metropolitan line of knives makes an affordable introduction to high-quality kitchen cutlery. Stamped rather than forged for lighter weight and a more reasonable price, the blades are made from high-carbon stainless steel for rust and stain resistance and longer-lasting sharpness. Chicago’s exclusive Taper Grind edge produces impressively precise slices and retains its sharpness well over time; these knives will need to be re-sharpened regularly, but they take an edge beautifully and with regular maintenance can stay out-of-the-box sharp for years. A full tang extends from the tip of the knife to the end of the handle for improved balance and strength. Contoured, ergonomically designed polymer handles feature contemporary styling and are durable and non-porous, so they’re impervious to water and bacteria for increased food safety. Triple brass rivets secure the handle to the blade for extra stability. Chicago Cutlery covers their knives with a lifetime guarantee; they recommend hand-washing and drying for best results. High tech from tip to handle, Global knives from Japan created a sensation when they burst onto the world's culinary stage as an alternative to traditional European-style cutlery. Blades are made of hard molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel and "face-ground" with a long taper rather than a short bevel so edges remain sharp longer than even the best high-carbon stainless-steel knives. Edges also are ground at a more acute angle than traditional European-style knives and arrive from the factory razor-sharp. Although Global's original knives have thinner blades and are lighter than traditional European-style knives, Global also makes a European-style "heavyweight" line for cooks who prefer hefty cutlery--like this 3-inch paring knife for cleaning and peeling vegetables and fruits. Global also dispensed with bolsters on most of its knives, including this one. Most Global knives have hollow handles, but the handle on this knife is solid.Read more

  • Lifetime warranty against defects and breakage

3-0 out of 5 stars Global quality but some problems
I bought this on a whim to finish my global collection.Quality is the same as all global knives but I agree with previous reviewer that the handle is too flat which make it awkward to use.
3-0 out of 5 stars global parig knife
Top quality steel, right length & heft. The problem is with the handle wich is way too slender. When working with wet hands is downright dangerous.Practically you have to hold the knife with your fingertips(& I have small hands),even so the handle corrugation is not suffficient to give a firm hold.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent paring knife
I have the 8" Chef's knife from this collection and I'm quite enamored of it: good heft and balance, exquisitely sharp, easily honed, etc. I purchased this paring knife to go with it and I am quite satisfied. Originally, I gave four stars because I found the balance off; working with the knife has convinced me that it has a perfect balance and hand feel. I would change the rating to five stars if I could figure out how. If you want a good paring knife that will last you for the rest of your life, look no farther. The steel is the same top-quality German stainless used in Solingen knives, but the knife is manufactured in China. Best of both worlds! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Sharp, but dangerous
I cook regularly, usually using an assortment of good stamped Henckels knives and a terrific Farberware forged chef's knife, and rarely cut myself --- not more than once a year, if that.In three weeks of using these knives, I've cut myself three times; it's definitely possible that I would not have cut myself if I were paying better attention, but the knives do feel different in my hand from other knives and the association between these knives and cutting myself seems too strong for me to dismiss completely.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nice little knifes
These knifes are small and razor sharp. Extreemly good at peeling & chopping.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good blades, poor handles
Based on the user reviews, I ordered these knives. The blades are, as advertised, sharp and well designed. The handles, however, are very thin and poorly shaped. After a few minutes of slicing strawberries, my hand began to cramp. The knives are very lightweight, which can be a problem because you have to provide all the cutting power yourself. This is one of the very few items I have ever returned to Amazon.

I bought this thinking I'd be happier with it than a shorter paring knife, but I think that may have been an error. The blade itself is sharp and cuts nearly anything, but I find I use it minimally. Its too big for any high detail work, where I find myself fumbling and too small for any rougher work, where I endlessly reach for my santoku knife.

5-0 out of 5 stars I always reach for these
I can't say enough about these knifes. The color coded handles really help to grap the correct knike for the job. They are really sharp and keep their edge. I've had mine for about three years and I use these everyday. My husband always wants to know why I reach for these instead of my more expensive name brand set, but I really like these better. I wish they made a set of larger knifes in the same design ( color coded handles ), I'd be first in line to buy them. Fantastic value for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars bd
Great value. The knives are very sharp and easy to care for.The various colored handles make it so easy to reach for the tool you need quickly.Since the knives are stored in their own block on the counter, I find I reach for these tools rather than opening the untensil drawer and grabbing the tools I had previously used for years.I generally like a clear, functional counterspace, however, these knives use such a small amount of space and are used several times daily. The block is a neat and safe way to store them and keep them handy. The overall design actually adds a little something to the space. This was an easy fit.We didn't have to get used to the new tools. ... we already owned the 7-inch santoku knife, purchased locally from a kitchen retailer, and loved it.we were a little hesitant at first since we've only ever had cheaper knives, but as soon as we felt it in our hands and tried the knife we were sold.still, the 7-inch is a little big for small jobs, so we decided to get this 4-inch paring knife.i coupled a gift certificate with an amazon.com kitchen coupon promotion and was able to get the 4-inch paring knife and the 8-inch bread knife for a very good price.this should pretty much complete our knife set-- from my experience these three knives are versatile enough for almost any job.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very nice but ! - > Just Very Good !
Very nice knife. It is sharp, really sharp. Handle feels good.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great knife!
I bought this knife after it was recommended in the book Kitchen Confidential. The knife is razor sharp, well balanced and it's very comfortable in the hand. Also, I accidently nicked myself with it -- I was shocked both by my own stupidity and how flawlessly the cut healed because the knife was so sharp! ... Read more

Fine craftsmanship and premium materials make Calphalon cutlery as outstanding as Calphalon pots and pans. This beautifully balanced, full-tang 4-1/2-inch paring knife is constructed of a single forged piece of high carbon, no-stain, rust-resistant steel. The hand-ground blade holds a perfect edge that sharpens more readily than regular stainless steel. Contoured for comfort, the seamless handle will not absorb moisture, crack, or chip. Each Contemporary knife is etched on the end with its name and/or size, allowing quick identification when stored in a block. With its short, utilitarian blade, this parer is perfect for coring strawberries, mincing garlic, and creating radish rosettes and other garnishes. All Calphalon knives come with a lifetime warranty. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Knife - Watch your fingers!
We bought this knife as a replacement to some Henckel paring knives that have mysteriously disappeared from our house.Tried it out the same day it arrived & it appears to be great so far.Nice weight, handles well & is super sharp - so sharp my husband & I both cut ourselves by barely touching the blade! (Cut was so fine that it healed by the next day.)So far so good - we'll report back after the first sharpening!

5-0 out of 5 stars A real favorite...
After using this knife daily for several weeks, I have nothing but good things to say about its performance. The handle is the most comfortable of any brand I've tried and it seems to hold an edge better than my 3.5" Wusthof parer. But, without a doubt, the best feature is the 4.5" blade. The extra inch seems to make a huge difference in versatility and feel, especially when cutting fruit such as grapefruit, trimming meats and county ham, or slicing and dicing garlic. The blade also slopes downward slightly which really increases its value when making delicate cuts. It truly is a pleasure to use and the one I reach for most often. Now the bad news...it's made in China and the lack of quality control sometimes shows in this line of knives (and others such as Farberware's ProForged).I had to return a boning knife because the blade was significantly bent and I've rejected several others in stores due to the same problem. You can check for this problem by holding it out at arm's length with the blade pointing away from you and sighting down top of the handle and blade.Needless to say, any serious attempt to straighten a high carbon blade will cause it to break, so just return it or reject it.All that being said, this truly is a great knife and one that I highly recommend. ... Editorial Review

Second only to the chef’s knife for versatility, this 3-1/2-inch knife will be the second most used blade in your kitchen. The brightly colored handles on the four knives in this setstrike cheerful notes in the kitchen, while the blades, stamped fromhigh-carbon stainless steel, have all the shapes required forsmall-knife tasks. 4-0 out of 5 stars perfectly serviceable
Well, what do you expect for such a reasonable price? Sure, there are Henckels out there which are probably sharper and better constructed, but these little cute and colorful knives do a great job of cutting up food, and seem perfectly sharp enough for fruit or the odd piece of chicken.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not expected Henckels quality
If you are looking for the legendary Henckels quality, spend more money on a different set. These knives work as well as what you can buy at the grocey store or target, but are not close to the sharpness as more expensive Henckels. The quality knives are forged, while these are stamped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Utility knives!
At first I was turned off by the bright (gaudy) colors. However, I have learned to appreciate that these knives are color-coded! They stand out in the knife drawer, and you can always find the one you are looking for.Consequently, the right knife is used to get the job done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Henckels 4 star gets 5 stars
About 5 years ago I got into cooking stir fry a little bit and found that cutting carrots, onions and many other vegitables was quite a chore with the cheap selection of knives that my kitchen was stocked with.I had to get sometimes near paper thin slices of various ingredients and there was no way even the best knife sold by Target could stack up to the task.I went to a real cookware store and purchased this knife and the 14" chefs knife for starters.5-0 out of 5 stars A CUT ABOVE THE REST
It seems that everyone's kitchen drawer holds more than one paring knife - ours certainly does, and this small knife by Henckels is a favorite.Read more
