Although it may look like an attractive modern sculpture, the Hoffritz wine bottle topper set actually has an important purpose: it keeps your open bottles of wine fresh while adding flair to any bar or entertaining area. The base is half-moon-shaped and won't rot or stain if placed on a wet bar. Three wine stoppers, each sporting a differently shaped decorative top (a sphere, a cube, and a cone), poke out of the base like spokes. The cone-shaped stoppers sink comfortably into any wine bottle. A rubber ring around the middle of each stopper fits snugly against the neck of your wine bottle, forming a tight seal. These don't expand to fit all wine bottles
I previously had a chrome wine stopper purchased from another store, but it was damaged by falling into an active garbage disposal, so I bought these as replacements.The previous stopper had a thick rubber part that created the seal.The rubber sections on these are so thin that they didn't even seal the wine bottle I first tried them on.All three stoppers in the set had the same problem.
Hip Modern Functionalism?
Obvious words such as hip, trendy, and stylish can be thrown around to describe the set's sexy aesthetic.Easier to resuse and reseal than the plain old cork that came with the bottle of wine - if you find yourself sometimes accidentally pushing the cork into the inside of your wine bottle or struggle seemingly forever to get a new helping of zinfandel, your clumsiness may merit this item a necessity.True, while not a complete, must have necessity for all; it serves its purpose and protects already opened bottles of wine from absorbing the weird, funky odors of whatever else is gracing your frig.However, I've moreover found the Bottle Topper Set and Stand to be more of a fun gift item for friends turning the legal drinking age or as an apartment warming gift for kids who are living on their own for the first time and attempting it in an urbane, swinger style.Perfect present for someone who doesn't really drink or doesn't drink too much, but likes to be thought of as a sophisticated, savant-ish consignor of all things novel and capriciously fun.Withstands dishwasher wear favorably and likes to be polished a couple times a year. ... A true cocktail party needs a few indisputable elements: top-shelf liquor, witty conversation, salty mixed nuts, a beautiful stranger with a secret, and this art-deco-inspired stainless-steel cocktail shaker from WMF. Looks pretty but...
Looks pretty but the shaker is actually quite a pain to use. Why? When you put ice and drink ingredients in the shaker and seal it with the well fitting lid, the cold creates a vacuum inside the shaker. Thus, separating the lid from the tin becomes INSANELY difficult, slowing down your drink making. Also, there's no built in strainer; if you're going to buy a shaker you might as well get one that has the strainer built in. This shaker only looks good on the shelf, where it will happily gather dust for you. Professionals use a pint glass, mixing tin, and strainer which have a steeper learning curve. However, once you learn the technique those three items are WAY easier to mix with.

Hasn't worked for me once
I recieved this as a Christmas present and so far it's 0 for 4 in removing the wax seals from wine bottles. This has happened on 4 separate bottles, each a different brand, so the problem lies with the device itself and not a particular brand's bottle. The Wonderful Screwpull Wax Remover!

Great Corkscrew!
I purchased one of these Arcosteel corkscrews several years ago after reading a corkscrew review in Consumers Reports.It was a little difficult to figure out at first, but after opening more bottles it became a breeze.Just clamp it to the bottle top, gently bring the lever over the top and pull it back and, the cork is removed!Remove the unit from the bottle and bring the lever back over the top, clamping it onto the cork, and bring the lever back, and the cork is removed from the corkscrew.What could be easier?And it comes with a foil cutter and extra screw too!

Slipped a gear
The corkscrew slipped a gear on the third bottle and it is now in the waste basket. It seized up while opening a bottle and enough pressure was applied to the handle to cause it to slip the gear. This unit operates with a smooth effort. If it seems to require additional force it is probably better to back off on the handle rather than pushing on it. ... Read more

Nice Jigger
Most jiggers are of poor quality....not this one.Predictable German quality. A very nice jigger that could be better
This jigger is very simple to use and nice to see. This is a quick operating jigger, best used with a simple Boston shaker and a strainer to fit. If you are starting your basement bar for the summer season, I recommend this one for modern setting, and Hoffritz one (another Amazon item) for all traditional setting. You could also buy a small glass graduated cylinder from lab supply companies for a funky bar!Read more
