Don't waste your $$$$ - like grinding a duck!
When I ordered this product, it had a 4 star average rating- how that happened is beyond me. Were a zero star rating available, this product wouldn't even deserve the string of uncolored stars!
Poor and Inconsistent Grinding
Unless you love the look of this pepper grinder, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. When compared to a generic grinder, this product produces inferior and very inconsistent grinds. I've gone so far as to grind peppercorns onto a white sheet of paper to look at them. With this grinder you'll always get a huge variation in the grind. Some of the pieces of the peppercorns will be large enough that it would give anyone pause to wonder whether foreign matter had somehow entered the dish. The oval top is quite slippery and when you tighten down the top nut to reduce the grind to something that will prove acceptable, you'll have trouble turning it. Not recommended.

Beatiful and Functional
I am a huge fan of innovation-meets-function and this product is top notch in that regard. I have yet to have a guest miss this interesting piece in my kitchen! It's a bit smaller than I immagined, but just as stunning in design as pictured. The craftsmanship is of very good quality and well worth the price. Don't expect mountains to pour our though. The shakers only dispense a small amount - inconveninet for cooking, but perfect for individual seasoning additions once the meal is set.

I hate coming up with a title
The brushed metal design is very handsome and classy to set on the dining table. These were much smaller than I had expected -- only wished they were bigger as they could also be shown as a more prominent work of functional art. Haven't had problems shaking salt or pepper out of them.

A fantastic product
The pepper ans salt grinders are fabulous. Don't understand why it gets so many bad reviews! It works great, gives out as much crushed pepper as a regular small pepper mill does. And the pepper and salt coarseness are perfect too. Plus it is very handy unlike traditional mills where you have to rotate with both hands. Great product!

Cannot adjust for coarseness
The description says you can adjust for coarseness of the salt/pepper, but there is no such knob on the mini grinders. We replaced the store bought salt with sea salt and now the grinder doesn't work. Disappointing.

Complete Junk
Two reasons not to buy these. First you have to examine the tops to see if they read "P" or "S". Secondly - you can't remove the tops. On my first fill the tops removed easily but that was the first and last time. Even with a strap wrench I have not gotten the top off the salt shaker again. Who could imagine that any company existed that could not make a salt shaker?

2 sets were both defective!
The first set I received looked great, but I could only remove the lid from one of the shakers. I returned that set and received a replacement set, and I couldn't get the lids off of either shaker!

Great grinding options
This pepper mill/salt shaker gives you three grinding options and we use them all.It has lasted well for the 2 - 3 fills we have gone through and we use it often.Could have had some slightly larger compartments but that would have made it a little big for the kids.

Flawless, as far as I can tell
If you are into stainless, you really can't go wrong with this one.The three settings work great, it cranks out a lot of pepper with each twist, it is attractive, sturdy, and easy to fill and operate.There really isn't anything else I could ask for.

Pretty good pepper mill
This mill offers an easy and consistant grind.It has three settings of courseness, and the fine setting actually "fine", unlike some other W&B pepper mills.It's a little hard to fill because a non-removable cross section in the body, but that really my only complaint.I've only had it for a few weeks, so hopefully it continues to give a consistant grind in the future.

First I bought the Wm. Suprisingly bad
I've now had experience with two of these pepper mills - I bought one based on the good reviews (which have now changed to poor reviews since my purchase) and had to return it and get another one after it fell apart. I am now having problems with the second one. With the first one,the ball on the top that keeps the top in place becomes loose as I grind pepper and actually pops off making my mill fall apart. The only way this doesn't happen is if I screw the ball back in every three or four turns of the crank handle. After a few times of it falling apart and me putting it back together, it stopped grinding pepper all together. I am having similar problems with the second one, although it still grinds pepper with much difficulty.
Excellent pepper mill as long as you fix the flaw
I bought 2 of these mills over a year ago. One was for salt and this one has worked flawlessly. The other was for pepper and like other people have said, it seemed to have gotten stuck in coarse mode. Being the fix-it guy I am, I decided to figure out what the problem was so I took it apart. If you look at the bottom of the mill, you'll see the ceramic grinder bit and its surrounding base. The bit is attached to the shaft which goes all the way to the crank handle. The base is also attached to this shaft and is only held in place by a spring tensioner. But it seems the spring is not strong enough so that when you start to grind with pepper, the little pepper seeds are so hard that they start to push the base away from the grinder bit and they eventually get stuck between the base and the container. This effectively causes the grinder to get stuck in coarse mode.

Worked for a while
This mill was ok (not great) for a couple of months but did not age well.The grind became inconsistent and it was always a lot of work for the amount of pepper it produced. Eventually, it just wasnt worth the effort. Have also used the pepper ball style of one-handed grinder, which lasted 2 or 3 times longer than this one. Anyway, i am back, looking for a better one-handed grinder.

Buy this if you want Carpel Tunnel
I bought this pepper grinder thinking it was a great idea to be able to grind pepper onto meats while I spread the seasonings with my other hand (thus not having to keep washing my hands after mixing in each ingredient... Boy was I wrong.I tried setting the grinder to different thicknesses but on any setting, the grinder hardly lets fall any pepper.I wind up every time getting a sore hand and hardly any pepper.This product sucks.Stick to the two handed method.Don't waste your money.

If you buy crushed black pepper, stop immediately. There is a world of difference between store bought pre-ground pepper and freshly cracked pepper, which is MUCH more aromatic and very tasty.Read more
