There's nothing as luscious as a ripe mango. Growing in popularity, mangoes are now available in many stores year-round and can be eaten fresh, cubed into salads, or sliced and baked on top of chicken breasts. Helping prepare the fruit for eating is this ingenious mango splitter from OXO. The splitter is a circular white plastic device with sharp stainless-steel blades in the center and OXO's signature black comfort handles on two sides. Holding both handles, the user pushes the blades down through the mango from the top, separating the seed from two halves of mango. Might work if the size and ripeness is just right.
I saw all the good reviews for the mango splitter so I got one. I eat mango's frequently and usually use a knife to to cut off each side. I used the splitter on a large mango that was on the ripe side. I found it was hard to push, never did get all the way through and made a mushy mess. Seems to me that it would work only if the mango was the proper size and ripeness.
One gadget you should buy!
I am not a cook or foodie.I hate touching food & I was raised to fear knives so I'm not very good with them.But this is a MUST HAVE.I could not cut a mango to save my life until this.I read a positive review in my partner's Cook's Illustrated and bought it for her/us immediately.It doesn't waste a drop of delicious mango flesh!Yum!!

A true multitasker
This thing is great! It's up for scraping the seeds out of a cuke, coring apples, and even (!) making pretty little melon balls. It's easy to clean, it's grippy, and it comes with two different sizes on the ends - just one scoop didn't cut it for OXO. They went above and beyond the call of duty. If only the people who set the price on this thing would do the same... Though it's somewhat pricey for the small gadget it is, I think it's worth the money just in the amount of time it saves me scooping the seeds out of the middle of apples. And plums and other small stone fruit as well.

Absolutely the best melon baller you're going to find short of the electro/mechanical Tobina Deluxe...Save yourself the money, this one is a winner!

Sturdy & Comfortable
I previously had a "Brand X" melon baller which, with occasional use, developed a cracked handle which I had to tape to keep together and later, the scoop end broke off! I broke down and got the best... the OXO is really sturdy and, as with all their products, comfortable to use. I can tell I'll get years of use out of it without it falling to pieces like my previous one. It just goes to show, even with a product that only gets occasional use, it doesn't pay to get a cheap one! ... Read more

more than just for melons
You can make tiny little balls of ice cream to put into a float with these, or use your melon baller to scoop out gourds and squashes for interesting appetizers. Makes it easy to get a nice round segment of just about any fruit.

A great tool, only one tiny detail
I feel the scoop is just a tad too big. I had another mellon baller, just as good as the KitchenAid, but the balls were smaller and just so cute. Still, it's a great tool and can help in so many ways, not just cantaloupe, but cheeses, cucumbers, and other fruits!
