This product is not well designed for even light duty home use.The back plane is so flimsy that slices come out wedge shaped because the top flexes so much.There is a cavity below and in front of the blade that gets food particles in it and is very hard to clean.I used the slicer for Canadian bacon, baked ham and provolone cheese--then I went out and bought another brand product.Hope someone on Ebay will like the Deni "Classic"...Bud Caldwell ... Severely overpriced at $5.99
Let me be clear here:I did not have high expectations for a mandoline priced at about six bucks.Having said that, I did expect to be able to create reasonably simple cuts like french fries (if not superfine juliennes).But alas, it was not to happen:the blades and supports are so thin and flexible that getting even semi-even cuts is nearly impossible.Slices are noticably thicker on one end than the other, but the blade won't cut through a vegetable without a little pressure (which is what's warping the cuts).

Does not work
As the other reviewer mentioned, it is very difficult to move the slicer back and forth.Just get a garlic press and be done with it.

If you want to crush, it works
But for slicing, it definitely doesn't. I have tried it several times, and each time the garlic gets crushed instead of sliced. The problem is that the holder is so hard to move back and forth, so it ends up smashing the garlic. Read more

Not worth it
I bought this to simplify making fries, it was a disappointment. It takes a lot of effort to push through a potato, and when it does go through it most likely won't go straight. Either save your money and use a knife, or spend more and get a mandoline.

Just not a good item
I just don't like this item. Got it as a wedding gift and have hardly used it because it sucks, plain and simple. Don't buy. There are others out there that are better. NOT KitchenAid quality here!!!
