4-0 out of 5 stars Works well...
Helps tenderize meat and allow the flavor of your marinade to penetrate deep inside. Running it under some hot water cleaned it right off. Even though the products with more blades would probably work better, this is a great buy for someone on a budget. ... Read more

42. Chantal Kitchen Tools Stainless Set/4 Replacement Wires for KG-CHS11 Wire Cheese Slicer
by Chantal
Kitchen
list price: $4.00 -- our price: $4.00
(price subject to change: see help)
Asin: B0000DDCIS
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Editorial Review

This set of four replacement wires are for use with Chantal’s 10-1/2-inch wire cheese slicer. These wires are handy to keep in storage for backup. When the previous wire becomes dull, you can string a new one through the cheese slicer and tighten it until taut to continue to produce smooth, even slices of soft to medium-soft cheeses. The thin wire keeps soft cheeses from sticking as they would on a thicker knife. Like the kitchen tool they are intended for, these wires are dishwasher-safe. Read more

  • For use with Chantal KG-CHS11 wire cheese slicer
  • Rustproof 18/10 stainless-steel construction

1-0 out of 5 stars Dull and useless blades
I bought this exact item for about $20 at a Tuesday Morning store that mostly carries items that were returned from stock at other stores.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not sharp enough
Although this mandoline is sturdy and fits together well (as far as changing the blades), the blades were not sharp enough when I received them to easily slice or julienne pototoes or carrots.I would think they should go through the slicer much easier than they did.I had to really bear down hard, and the slices were really choppy, rather than smooth.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good value, poor design

Editorial Review

Great for hard and even semihard cheeses, this wire cheese slicer by Oxo cuts cheese thinner than knives can and without the added pressure on your hands. The stainless-steel wire ensures a thin slice, and the solid zinc construction is quite durable. The soft rubber nonslip handle absorbs the pressure slicing puts on your hands. It's perfect for placing next to the cheese board at your next party. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. Read more

  • Produces thinner slices of cheese than knives can

  • Stainless-steel wire for easy slicing
  • Cushioned, nonslip handle

1-0 out of 5 stars Only lasted a few times...
I was very disappointed with this cheese slicer--the wire broke after about the fourth use.I have always had good experiences with Oxo and was very surprised.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly made
After a few uses the wire stretches and then breaks. It is not repairable.Too bad, since they make other good products.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke after about ten uses
The first couple of times I used this cheese slicer, the wire stretched out, making the slices thicker than they're supposed to be.Today I finally cut through a hard hunk of sharp cheddar and POP - the wire broke. For $20, I expect more.Next time I'll buy a non-wire cheese slicer.VERY disappointed as I expect more of OXO. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Neat little chopper
Easy to wash, nice sharp blades. The blades are a little hard to clean safely when bits get caught, but mostly it just washes out in water. Chopping isn't that even but it does a good job if you keep shaking between the chopping. Does a great job with nuts and hard things, not quite so good with softer things (like bell pepper). Overall, well worth the cost.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does the job, not great
This food chopper would be good if it works as it is supposed to do. Without any food in it, the chopper will turn 1/8 rotation at evey chop as featured. But once any food is placed, it becomes difficult to push it down, as the blades are not very sharp. Moreover, it does not turn most of the times. I had to carefully half press it sometimes, in order to make it turn. Hence, if I am not careful, the food (I use it to mince garlic most of the times) remains as very big pieces, as the blades have cut it in only one or two places.

5-0 out of 5 stars I have 3
The Beriner is not the perfect mandoline but it is more useful, for more tasks than the large french mandoline I also have.It is light, easily transportable and used in more professional kitchen stations than the larger metal version.
5-0 out of 5 stars excellent tool for careful cooks
I use this tool every day.I have never cut myself with it, nor have I had any trouble with food catching on the blades.Like any cutting tool, it requires careful use.Used properly, however, it is a wonderful, simple tool.I use it to cut cabbage, fennel and carrots for salads, ginger for stir fries, apples for garnish, etc.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed
I wanted to love this, as I bought this on the recommendation of other professional cooks for its zippiness, simplicity, and sharp blades. I am pretty adept in the kitchen, but this tool is unsafe if you decide to use the flimsy finger guard. Also, the blades were not sharp enough to handle hard veggies, such as carrots, gracefully, so I was left struggling trying to jam them across the blade, the finger guard trying its best to go off track each time. The finger guard should be higher and somehow secure better to the track. Worker's comp not worth the risk--I'll stick w/ Bron! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent alternative to expensiveEuropean slicers
The angled blade makes all of the difference. Our family's restaurant uses these mandolines emndlessly, amnd have tried models from Bron and Matfer the trouble is that the blades from Europe are at 90 degrees and require more force to cut, especially with very hard vegetables. The Japanese mandoline has a blade that is set at 45 degrees. Be careful though to use steel butcher glove or you will get cut. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice Unit But....
The Rival Slicer (Model 1060C) is a generally well designed unit. I say generally because there appears, in my unqualified opinion, to be one major design and/or manufacturing flaw associated with the product.

by Prodyne
Kitchen
list price: $27.99
Asin: B00004S1DM
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Editorial Review

The lovely appearance of this cheese slicer and serving tray makes up for a minor design flaw: the wire is shorter than those on other models, making it difficult to cut larger blocks of cheese. But it looks marvelous--its beech wood base with gorgeous green marble inlay invites compliments. Also, the marble inlay keeps cheese cool, while the built-in stainless-steel cutting wire sinks easily into both hard and soft cheeses. The wire is replaceable and covered by a lifetime warranty against breakage. Read more

Editorial Review

This slicing gadget is a supplement to a food processor, performing slicing jobs that most food processors can’t do well with disc inserts. The tool comes with three different square stainless-steel inserts that snap into the two-handed slicer. Aligning the slicer over food and then pushing down by hand cuts the food into the desired shape. The pie-shaped insert is ideal for coring apples or pears, while the two grid-shaped inserts cut potatoes for French fries or dice other cooked vegetables in either thick or thin widths. The ergonomic handles have comfortable Santoprene grips that keep the slicer from slipping out of your hands. Inserts are all dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't toss your knife & cutting board
This slicer seems easy enough and is easy to clean.Hard part is you have to press the blade over the food to be sliced.Potatoes and most foods used with this tool are oval shaped and do not stand up on end without slicing them.Once you have gotten the slicer over the food, you have to press it through the slicer sections manually. It is a better idea to get the box style cutter for about the same cost which is easier to use, has a shaped press to push the food through the blades and dishwasher safe too!I wish I had not found this item first.

1-0 out of 5 stars It CAN slice cheese, if it is Brie.
This is junk. The blades tore through the plastic with the first potato I tried to slice. The apple slicer broke on the 4th apple. The blades are not sharp, and takes considerable force to get it to slice anything. The Julianne attachment would not slice a block of chedder, though I do think any attachment would be able to slice Brie, and if not that, then perhaps jello.Worst purchase I ever made with the name Kitchenaid on it. ...
