Editorial Review

An inexpensive alternative to a professional stainless-steelmandoline, this device makes it possible to quickly, uniformly, andsafely slice and julienne vegetables and fruits. It also shreds cabbageand neatly dices potatoes, tomatoes, and onions. For safety, a holderfirmly grips food with stainless-steel prongs so fingers are protectedfrom the German surgical-steel blades, and the three insertsaccompanying the device lock in position. The inserts act as a guidefor slicing against the V-frame's knife that reverses to create sliceseither 1/4-inch or 1/16-inch thick and two julienne inserts forcreating 1/8-inch or 3/8-inch strips. For storage, the V-frame, allthree inserts, and the safety holder fit into a caddy that can standupright on the counter, lie flat in a drawer, or hang on the wall. Madeof rugged plastic, the device measures 15 inches long and 6 inches widewhen assembled for storage. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply machines work best.
My old Borner slicer had seen it's day so I went back to the local store to buy another and found none. How fortunate I was to find it on Amazon. This nifty item is the simplest, fastest, most efficent way to handle slicing, dicing etc. of foods. A mandoline is far too elaborate for a good "old fashion" italian cook. Buy it you won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and cleans up well.
There are a lot of reviews here flattering this device better than I can. I don't cook well, so any device that easily cuts things up in interesting and useful shapes and is easy to clean earns my appreciation. This focuses on cleaning and use more than results since I didn't even know these things existed until a week ago. I had no idea that I could ever slice vegetables so well. I thought only restaurants and other people had the capability.
5-0 out of 5 stars Yep, works as advertised...
I bought this based on the recommendations of all of the reviews I read here on Amazon and I'm glad to say I'm glad I did.

Editorial Review

The SaladShooter makes a fabulous gift for those who like big, healthy salads loaded with veggies, homemade pizza with plenty of grated cheese, desserts topped with nuts or chocolate--find yourself in that portrait somewhere? Amazingly fast, the SaladShooter literally shoots out prepared food directly into a salad bowl or in neat piles for an assemble-your-own taco party. Featuring sharp stainless-steel cutting blades, the two interchangeable cones, one for shredding and one for slicing, each slip in and out of the main chute and are secured in place with a twist-lock ring. That’s all--no complicated parts to assemble. Food should be cut into blocks or lengths that fit into the food chamber, and a chart in the user guide specifies which cone to use for which foods. To operate, one hand grips the handle of the shooter and flips on the power switch, while the other hand presses down on the food guide to produce a steady output of shredded or sliced food. There’s no need to wash the parts in between processing different kinds of food, so shredded cheese, lettuce, carrots, and more are ready one after the other. All parts except the motor base can be washed in the dishwasher. The SaladShooter is not intended for grinding coffee or processing cranberries, tomatoes, or meats. Measuring 9-1/2 by 7 by 3-1/2 inches with a five-foot cord, the SaladShooter is covered by a two-year warranty against defects. Read more

Features

  • Quickly slices or shreds large amounts of vegetables, fruits and cheese
  • One ingredient after another can be added without cleaning in-between
  • Shoots food right into a salad bowl, onto a pizza, or into soup
  • Interchangeable slicing and shredding cones easily attach
  • Dishwasher-safe (excluding motor base); 9-1/2 by 7 by 3-1/2 inche

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Kitchen Gadget Ever
I'm so happy I accidentally stumbled across this when shopping here. It's really as good as everyone is saying here. It's small enough to tuck away nicely, and cleanup is a snap!
5-0 out of 5 stars replacement
The purchase of this salad shooter replaces our 7 year old shooter. The old one stopped working due to a worn out switch. I was informed by Presto that these items are not repairable. They do not carry parts to repair them. So now my wife has a new shooter that she uses daily and that saves her a lot of time. And now I don't mind helping her with grating the veges as the shooter takes all of the work out of it. It's also very easy to clean. Any one who cooks a lot should have one of these

5-0 out of 5 stars A great timesaver!
I have a Tea Room in TN and use a lot of grated cheese on a daily basis for quiche, soups, sandwiches, etc.The salad shooter saves a lot of time over grating the cheese by hand.My mom has a tea room also and I plan on ordering her one today! Thanks Presto! ... Read more

This lightweight cutter divides a potato into its french-fry essence in a jiffy. One blade creates up to 49 3/8-inch fries with a single lever-push. The other creates up to 25 half-inch fries. You'll get those numbers, however, only if you precisely shape a large potato to fit the bed. The bed's size is the cutter's only drawback. Even if you cut a large potato to fit the head, the fry length is at most 3-1/2 inches. That length, however, is ideal for carrot, cucumber, and zucchini batons to assemble a vegetable tray around a bagna cauda, an Italian dipping sauce of olive oil, butter, garlic, and anchovies. And such batons get you halfway to a pretty dice for a vegetable soup. Hand wash. Read more

Features

  • Easy to use
  • French Fry Cutter is plastic and stainless steel.
  • Comes with 2 blades: 25 hole for large fries and 49-hole for small fries
  • Simply place small or half potatoes into shute and squeeze through for thick or thin fries.
  • Hand wash in soapy water

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet potato fry heaven
If you nuke or boil the potatoes before running them through it works great. We use it for sweet potato fries once a week and it seems to be standing up to my husbands force when the potatoes are not quite soft enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
This fry cutter is good if you have a small potato and want some fries...otherwise you will need to cut your potato first. Also, it takes a bit of effort to use.

Fresh-cut pineapple is like a little taste of paradise--and if hacking up the whole spiky shebang weren’t such a royal pain, we’d probably all eat a lot more of it. The shell is preserved intact to use for a dessert or drink bowl, providing the perfect presentation for dessert or drinks at your next luau. 5-0 out of 5 stars vacu vin pineapple slicer!!! A narvel
I have not purchased a ripe pineapple due to the fact that it is so difficult to hand peel. So I have gone without this delicious fruit for too long. I happened on the slicer while browsing amazon and could not believe they had such a tool! I ordered it right then and it arrived in a few days. All that was said about it is really true! It cuts a pineapple in a matter of seconds leaving a very attractive bowel, the pinapple it self.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Easier than Pi...neapple"
This little gadget is great.I never used to buy pineapple because I hated preparing it to eat.Now it's simple and quick.I'm glad I bought several of these, because I'm going to give them to my sisters. I know they'll love them also.We are always looking for great gadgets to share with each other, and I've found a great one!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Love It!
I love this pineapple slicer. The only drawback is that, since I am short and my counter is somewhat high, I have a hard time applying enough pressure to the top of the slicer.I found it helps if I stand on a stool to get above it.Otherwise, it works great! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works - slowly - but works!
The Corn Zipper works great - really great - the only negative is the small amount of corn it removes at one time. (1-2 rows) I will still use it because for some reason I make a lot less mess than when I use a knife. I'd be really excited if they'd make a wider one and I'm sure they will - give 'em time.

Editorial Review

Fresh pineapple has a tropical, delicious taste … but many folks can’t figure out how to get past this fruit’s thorny exterior to the sweet inside and resort to buying those perfect little rings in a can. This pineapple slicer peels, cores, and slices a fresh specimen in less than 30 seconds so there is no excuse for ever buying canned pineapple again. To use this ingenious little tool, you must first cut the top off of your fresh pineapple. Next, place the slicer in the middle of the pineapple and push down while turning the handle in a clockwise motion. Pull the slicer straight out of the pineapple and--voila!--your perfect little rings come out with the tool while the rough shell stays behind. Finally, simply slide the handle off the slicer and the pineapple rings slide off with it. The pineapple shell remains intact so you can use it as a dessert bowl or as a glass for piña coladas. The slicer comes with three blades to tackle pineapples of any size. This tool has garnered several prestigious design awards from all over the world, including Germany’s Award for Good Industrial Design, Holland’s ION’s Good Industrial Design award, and Japan’s MITI Award for Excellent Foreign Product. 5-0 out of 5 stars Money well spent.......
I have used this twice since purchasing and am wondering why it took me so long to buy it. I am a pineappleholic and have been used to spending at least 10 to 15 minutes slicing my pineapple for the week. This amazing tool has cut that time in half and is actually fun to use. It's inspired me to make a smoothie after I'm done just so I can drink from the shell. Very glamorous!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Vacu Vin Pineapple Slicer
I really like this product.I bought the set of 3.All the pineapples that I have purchased have been sliced with the medium slicer. This product is fairly easy to use.You do need some upper arm strength.I am only 5' tall and it sometimes hard to get leverage to push it down thru the pineapple. All in all it works great except if the pineapple is to ripe it kinda makes a mush. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars it is what it is...
it took a bit of time to get the hang of this tool, but once i did the zuchinni 'pasta' turned out fairly well. sure, it's more work and not the same as normal pasta, but for those of us that can't eat normal pasta, it's been a nice tool to have. i think it works fine and for what it's intended for, but i do agree with having to waste a decent amount of your zuchinni to get it aligned correctly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing for exactly one thing...
I've had my Saladacco for a couple years and pull it out every summer when it's too hot to boil pasta and zuchini is in season. I use it for exactly one thing: making great angel-hair (or thinner) "pasta" from zuchini. I have to agree with all of the reviews here:
5-0 out of 5 stars I love it, too.
I almost didn't buy this slicer because of all the negative reviews. But I got it, pulled it out of the box, READ THE SHORT & SIMPLE DIRECTIONS, and was making gorgeous zuccini pasta in five minutes.I think it's well made, sturdy, easy to use, and quick.I had two huge plates of zuccini pasta within fifteen minutes (includes time to make the sauce). It's my new favorite toy. I don't know what's up with all the other bad reviews. Worked fine, immediately, for me. ... Read more

Unlike food processors, MIU’s mandoline allows precise control over the texture and size of every cut, producing attractive, uniform vegetable and fruit slices. Constructed from durable, heavy-gauge, 18/10 stainless steel, this French-made tool creates attractive pommes Anna or paper-thin slices of cuke in record time thanks to five, versatile blade attachments. Three julienne blades cut in 3-, 5-, and 10-millimeter widths for French fries or slender carrot strips. The smooth blade creates straight, even slices of potatoes or radishes, while a serrated blade makes attractive crinkle or waffle cuts. Each attachment slides into a side opening, and locks into place for secure slicing and easy blade changes. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm!
I am skeptical of fancy kitchen tools because I tend to be a kitchen purist who believes that with a good set of knives and some skills a wanna-be-chef can slice paper-thin potatoes, onions, or anything that comes along the way. So, when this mandoline was brought home, I was ready to find faults.

2-0 out of 5 stars deli slicer
Not very happy with this product. I am still debating on weather or not to return it. I found it very difficult trying to remove the blade and almost broke the the plastic trying to loosen it. I finally got a butter knife and ended up scratching the plastic trying to get it off to clean. Anything I have tried to slice always seems to bunch up near the bottom of the blade. I don't feel that it slices very even either. On a positive note once the blade is removed it is easy clean up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great deal for the price
I bought 2 of these items, one for myself and one for my brother. He makes a lot of jerky and said it works great. You just need to partially freeze the meat to get good control.I have sliced homemade bread (very thin and very neat), cheese and meat.Everything came out great.Clean-up takes a little time, but that will happen with any machine.I looked at a lot of deli slicers and compared features and prices. This was by far the best deal.I think you will find it useful in your kitchen too.

This versatile cheese slicer glides through hard or semi-soft cheeses with ease and makes light work of creating cheese trays or hors d’oeuvres for a party. The slicer measures 7-3/4 inches from head to handle’s end and has a thick plastic handle with stainless-steel accents for more controlled movements. The head of the slicer has a 4-inch-wide wire and roller made of heavy-duty stainless steel, which is less likely to snap under pressure when cutting through heavier cheeses. For additional durability, the wire and roller are mounted to a sturdy fiberglass-reinforced nylon frame with cast bolsters. This professional-level slicer is dishwasher-safe for easier cleanup. KitchenAid offers a hassle-free replacement warranty on this slicer during the first year of ownership and a lifetime limited warranty on it thereafter. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not good
The wire broke off as I was slicing my first slice of chedder cheese.Needless to say, I do NOT recommend this cheese slicer.Last I checked, they're supposed to last longer than one slice.Maybe mine was faulty...but regardless, I expect better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well
Cuts very easily. However, it's not easy to get that last half centimeter due to the shape of the part holding the wire. Not really a big deal, and a common problem to this style cheese slicer (only style I've never had this problem with is the paper-cutter-style cheese slicer...the one with the board and the hinged slicer).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
A very multiuse tool. It cuts different kinds of cheese ina very smooth way. If you have a party, it's wonderful to prepare hors d'oeuvres. It cleans easily.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pliers not included
This thing works great out of the box but the problem comes when you want to make adjustments (say a thicker peel or slice and peel). Notice those wingnuts in the picture? I'm not a weak guy but I had to use pliers to turn them. They have to be so tight because otherwise they'll slip and you'll lose your setting. No kitchen utensil should require hardware. A grain of salt: This appears to be identical (right down to the wing nuts and slice and peel attachment) to the peeler I got at Bed, Bath and Beyond but it might be a different manufacturer. Just a word of caution.

As a low-cost alternative to a metal professional-grade mandoline, this versatile tool will appeal to novice cooks bent on creating uniform fruit and vegetable slices for salads, pies, tarts, and garnishes. Snap four different plates in and out of the tool to quickly produce thin (but not paper-thin), medium, and thick slices; grate coarsely or finely; julienne; and make shoestring-size french fries. A round guard grips foods while protecting your fingers as you push foods over cutting or grating edges. A handle on one end and nonskid "feet" on the other provide countertop stability. Hand wash. 3-0 out of 5 stars For soft veggie only
I had this mandoline for 1/2 yr now.It was working fine at the beginning.Made the mistake of running a couple of sweet potatos on this. Now, it's a goner. Only made for softer veggies, but then again for the price, you can't expect much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the money
There are better ones out there but heh, this one does what you need. I did have to take the blade off and sharpen it but that was no problem. Just use one of the kitchen steels or one of the new sharpeners that you pull over the blade with the protective finger gaurds on it. I only use it occasionally but i have had it for 6 years now and bought it here for the same price i think. If you are going to use it more than just here and there u might look at a better unit but... you will have to get the hang of it and it takes some practice. For 6.00 dollars it is a good investment.

My wife just loves the new mandoline that we got from your co.

1-0 out of 5 stars I like OXY but hate this product
I'm usually pretty satisfied with the design and quality of this company's products. I used a $9 martha stewart one for years that finally warped and dulled but it did slice tomatoes. this one was so dull it couldn't slice anything. I returned it immediately. Its soured me on the straight blade design but I don't see higher end units with the angled/diagonal blade and they don't have as many cutting choices so I'm quite stuck!

1-0 out of 5 stars Did not work well at all!
We were so excited to have this tidy gadget in our kitchen--and after removing the plastic tape over the blade, were seriously disappointed. We tried sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, carrots...and made a mash of veggies all over the counter with a few julienned carrots and a couple potato slices on top.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, very easy and safe to use
An avid home cook that is a collector of both cookbooks and cooking gadgets writes this review.I am a fairly accomplished home cook and own more than my share of kitchen gadgets.I received this product as a birthday present a few years ago and have been more than satisfied with its performance.I have summarized my observations of this product below:

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the money...
We bought this little slicer because so many meat departments no longer have a real butcher to cut meat the way we want it.

4-0 out of 5 stars It takes practice, and you have to read the directions.
The problems described by the other reviewers are avoidable if you read the instructions and make the adjustments necessary.
5-0 out of 5 stars mandolin
have not used it as much as I thought I would. But it is easy to use... and I just throw it in my dishwasher when done.Love it!

1-0 out of 5 stars It does not achieve intent
I bought this mandolin as a suggested resource for the quick and efficient cutting of julienned vegetables. A health food recipe book talked about cutting the carrots julienne style, cutting the cucumber julienne style, etc. julienne style. Well, the Oneida Polished Black Mandolin with Interchangeables blades does not cut the carrots. Rather, the carrots get stock in the blades that are meant to cut the piece into matchstick strips, and worst of all, it smashes the beautiful piece of vegetable!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Slicer + So-so Handgaurd = 4.5 Stars
I have to agree with most of the reviewers here. The handgaurd was good for slicing softer veggies (no problem with potatoes). For harder veggies (like carrots), it's a totally different story.I would reccomend you use either a cut resistant glove for chopping. As for lenghwise julienne slices, the hand gaurd from my Borner V-slicer is wonderful.
4-0 out of 5 stars Works great, very sharp, use carefully
I have had this mandolin for over two years now.I use it regularly for cucumber, apple, carrot, potato, cabbage...The blade is sharp, and I agree with other reviews, the safty guard is not very effective. However, I have never cut myself using the mandolin.I wash and dry it after each use, and have no problem with rusting. In fact, I just bought one for my parents because they were impressed with it.My Japanese friend also has one. It's practically in every home in Japan.Don't think you can find another good mandolin at this price.Giving it 4-star review because the safty guard can be improved.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great slicer while it lasts
This is an excellent slicer.I've used everything in it from carrots (when making my carrot version of thai papaya salad) julienned into matchstick thickness to wide thin slices of Korean radish.Never failed me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good then poor
This was an excellent item...for about 3 uses...then the mandoline would not hold to one thickness...it keeps opening up to maximum cut depth. MIU France says this is not their problem..."just buy a new one".With an attitude like that...and product failure so quickly.....yes, I will buy a different brand...and avoid MIU France products

5-0 out of 5 stars Good product for all cooks!
This mandoline slicer has been great.I am no longer able to stand for long periods of time and the slicer allows me to speed through a large portion of my preparation of foods. The size of the mandoline is perfect and I appreciate the blades being safely stored in a box.I use the mandoline daily and it stays on my counter.Over the years I have tried several and this is by far, top notch.

1-0 out of 5 stars useless
this mandoline isn't sharp enough to cut much of anything.it makes mush out of most things (tomatoes, etc).don't waste your money on this one, spend the extra money to get something better. ... Read more
