Creating up to 1-1/2 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home takes only about 20 minutes with thiselectric appliance, and salt and ice are not needed. After themachine's chilling chamber has been in the freezer for about eighthours the liquid between its walls is thoroughly frozen. The chamberthen goes atop the power base, the unit's paddle goes into the chamber, the transparent top is locked in place, and the machine is turned on.Ingredients go into the chamber through an opening in the top as thepaddle turns. The chamber chills the ingredients to whateverconsistency is desired--though dense treats are hard to make becausethe paddle churns in air. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very happy
I've had this ice cream maker for about a year and use it at least once a month. I have never had a problem with it and have been very pleased with the results. The output is not as creamy as Ben & Jerry's but I guess I can't expect miracles! My only complaint is I need a second bowl since my husband and I like different flavors--I don't like having to wait up to a full day to make a second batch. I do recommend the Ben & Jerry's recipt booklet. The raspberry sorbet and ice cream and the peach ice cream are phenomenal!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good for the Price
I agree with others that this machine is a little noisy. But, it isn't bad enough to not buy the machine. For a basic ice cream machine this works wonders.A few tips: be sure you freeze the canister for at least 8 hours and cool your ingredients in the refrigerator before you start the machine.Note that it is very important to cool your ice cream mixture for at least an hour (I recommend two if it was hot). One time I decided my mixture was "cool enough" at room temperature and the ice cream didn't freeze properly. Also, know that when you use an ice cream machine such as this one you will get softer ice cream as the final product. If you want hard ice cream- freeze the end product over night. Personally, I like the softer ice cream. Finally, if you want a truly easy to use machine, and can afford it, I would go for one of the machines that you don't have freeze the canister. Those will start out at at least $150.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed!
I recently bought this ice cream maker because of the great reviews!I thought I was receiving an exceptional product. However, the very first time I used it, the machine stopped after about 10 minutes as if the motor overheated.I used it a second and third time and the same thing happened, in fact the stopping became more frequent!Maybe I got a reject but I am hoping I can return the item as I am VERY disappointed in it. ... Editorial Review

Yogurt is a great, guilt-free snack for both adults and kids. With this yogurt maker, it's easy to add favorite flavors--including exotic and sweet fruits, rich crunchy nuts, and natural sweeteners--to basic yogurt. Just follow the recipes, supplied by the manufacturer, and a nutritious snack, with very little fat and no preservatives (like most commercial brands), is not too far away. Making yogurt takes from 4 to 10 hours to process, depending on desired tartness of the batch. If you're looking for frozen yogurt, you do have to chill it for 2 hours in the freezer before consumption after it's made. The yogurt can be stored up to one week. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it
I make about 5 - 6 quarts of yogurt with this machine every week. My kids love them. My favorite is to mix with honey and frozen mixed berries. My kids love yogurt with real mapple syrup and granola or crushed M&Ms. We have yogurt for breakfast almost every morning, that's why I have to keep making them.
5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful
I love yougurt and this is the ideal machine. A one quart nancys yougurt container fits in the base. Using one quart containers makes it soo easy. So I never even transfer the yougurt. I had a machine years ago with the little cups, whata waste of time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for those who buy yogurt regularly
I bought this model a few weeks ago and have made four batches.Works really well, easy to use and clean.Check the label on your favorite brand of commercially produced yogurt and see all of the ingredients your won't be eating when you make your own.Nice. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The best, but noisy
The only thing preventing a complete 5 star from me for this excellent freezer is the fact that it is incredibly noisy. It sounds like a cement mixer and since it is from Cuisinart, I figured it wouldn't make much more noise then sending up the window on a Mercedez Benz.Oh well.
5-0 out of 5 stars So much delight for so little investment
This ice cream maker is great! I brought it all the way to Taiwan on a plane. I used the recipe for strawberry ice cream from the Cuisinart Recipe Booklet, but instead of using strawberries, I used the combination of passion fruit and mangos. The resulting ice cream is so exotic and tasty that my friends could not get enough of it.
5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST!
The Cuisinart ICE-30BC Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet and Ice Cream Maker is the absolute BEST kitchen appliance you can purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars A healthier yogurt!
This yogurt maker is very easy to use. I personally like to add a little vanilla and honey to the finished product but you don't have to if you prefer the plain. The only negative thing about it is that if you use the recommended amount of milk and fill all 8 containers you are left with very small portions. Therefore, I fill only 7 of them for a reasonable size portion. I also like the fact that you know exactly what is in your yogurt and you can control the amount of sugar added as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yogurt Maker
Before buying this yogurt maker I looked at several different kinds and determined this one to be the best. For one thing, it has eight jars instead of six, and you can also buy an additional eight jars. The jars are not glass, so they're not as likely to break. The jars go into the yogurt maker in two rows of four each, rather than in a circular arrangement, so all the jars should get uniformly warm and the yogurt in each of them should come out the same consistency. All in all, a nicely-designed set.

5-0 out of 5 stars My First One!
I was a little nervous about making the yogurt, but my first time out it turned out fabulous! This is a very simple machine with very clear instructions.Used 1% cow's milk and can't wait to make the next batch. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ice Cream Maker
This ice cream Maker is "GREAT".The fact that I can use an industrial motor (my kitchen Aid mixer) is fantastic. It is my belief that the ice cream maker itself is as near perfect as you can get, contrary to other reviews. If you read the description and instructions, you will find that it is not the biggest maker on the market AND that it does EXACTLY what it says it will...IT MAKES "GREAT" ICE CREAM. ... Editorial Review

For a century and a half, since a woman in New York invented the hand-crank freezer, making ice cream has been an American family value. Mom blended the ice cream mixture; Dad filled the maker's wooden tub with ice and rock salt to achieve the below-freezing temperature needed to produce smooth confections; kids clamored to turn the crank; and everyone happily consumed big bowls of ice cream as a reward. This family-bonding activity remains as vibrant today as it was through a century-and-a-half of "progress." With various ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet recipes included, this old-fashioned White Mountain ice cream maker maintains the tradition. Only the use of modern stainless steel for the freezer can and dasher and the electric motor distinguish this rugged maker from the one earlier generations enjoyed. And years from now it will still be used, knitting together a family's history. Read more

The best home made ice cream ever.Easy to operate.Great recipes come with machine.Well worth the cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars White Mountain is the ONLY way to go!
We had a White Mountain Freezer for AGES and the motor broke when it was dropped.Since there was a cheap (and I DO mean CHEAP) little Rival machine on sale for a mere $13, we decided we would try it - what could it hurt?Well, so much for icky soft-serve.It was just useless. When you put the "finished product" (and I use the term loosely) in the freezer, it froze solidly and you couldn't scoop it out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and healthy too!
My very first batch of yogurt was sensational.I was immediately aware that grocery store yogurt is artificial tasting in comparison to this light, smooth, delicate stuff of the angels.I was afraid I wouldn't like it plain, and did add a little honey to the first cup I ate, but it didn't really need it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Works every time
I've had my yogurt maker since May06 and it works great.I follow the instructions that came with the maker and usually use the powdered yogurt starter although I've also used store bought yogurt too.I agree that the jars are a bit hard to clean even when you soak them, you still need to scrub to get the yogurt off. Also (since I take the jars to work for snack) they leak a bit, so if they have to be transported, I put the jar in a ziplock bag.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great yogurt, mine does have a timer
I've been using this yogurt maker for about six months now with great results. The steps are: heat milk, cool milk, mix with either yogurt starter OR just some store bought yogurt, set the timer and away you go. You can use whole, skim or low-fat milk. There are instructions included for adding fruit/flavorings; but I'm lazy about it and simply add that stuff after my yogurt is made and avoid the extra steps involved.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Money, Just for the Fun!
I purchased the Mix It In on 9/8/06 and used it the next day.I never got soft serve.I froze the bowl again, this time in my upright freezer, and made the mix the day before and refrigerated it for 15 hours.
1-0 out of 5 stars It's less trouble driving to carvels
The machine leaked after we poured in the liquid ingredients. The mix in dispenser did not operate properly, all we put in were sprinkles. The ice cream did not harden enough until about 25 minutes;kids cannot wait that long.We could of driven to the local ice cream store and back by this time. Save your money, buy a old fashion ice cream maker instead at least your kids will get a workout and be occupied at the same time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Verry disappointed
I was very disappointed with this machine. I tried it on several separate occasions.I could not get a soft serve texture. I even placed the ice cream mixture in the freezer for 20 minutes before attempting to make the ice cream. I let it mix for 30 minutes before calling it quits. It also takes a lot of room in the freezer and I found that the unit was too tall to fit between the counter and the cabinets. ... Read more

Editorial Review

With a minimum freezing temperature of –4 degrees F, the Simac Gelato Junior takes only about 30 minutes to satisfy your craving for a frozen confection. Plus, the built-in compressor freezer operates continuously, so you can turn out multiple flavors of ice cream while your guests finish their dinner. A 60-minute electronic timer frees you up for other activities, and an automatic safety mechanism sounds a warning beep if the integrated spatula blade gets stuck. A removable 1-quart bowl, transparent lid, and slim ingredient window all simplify operation, and the unit is also useful for crafting frozen drinks and chilled soups. Though not lightweight at 31 pounds, the Gelato Junior is fairly sleek for its class, measuring 11 by 14 by 12-1/4 inches. Simac includes a booklet of tasty ice cream, sorbet, and dessert sauce recipes, as well as an ice cream scoop. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Went from dissapointed to satisfied
I was very dissapointed with the first batch since it turned out very slushy. I took nearly 45 minutes to churn when I was only expecting it to take 25-30 minutes. I figured perhaps it was a defective machine but turns it was a problem on my end. The first mistake I made was overfilling the bucket. The top of the bucket is not equal to one quart. I thought I was playing it safe by filling it about 5/6 of the way, but even that is greater than a quart so be sure to measure prior to placing the batch in the bucket. The second mistake I made was not letting the batch chill long enough. I was quite anxious and only let it sit in the fridge for a few hours.
4-0 out of 5 stars excellent!
got my machine and made my first batch of strawberry ice cream and my my my it was delicious!!!! Then i tried slushies by just poring coca cola into the container and let it go just for 15 minutes and you have the perfect slushie! Then I tried the sorbets in the receipe book, you won't have to fly to Italy, you make it right at home! Then a week later company came over and i chilled a bottle of our favorite wine in it within 15 minutes!!!!!This machine is just grand! It is heavy and takes up counter space, but believe me it is worth it.I rate it 4 stars because it doesn't shut off automatically, but that should not sway you from making this purchase. Well worth the purchase, and the money you will be saving, and not only that, your ice cream is healthier!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't worry, eat Ice Cream
Having read almost all the reviews, let me break it down this way...yes, it's a great machine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Extra bowl a must have
I've had a great time with the ice cream maker I've got (actually, I've got two--different makes and three bowls). One does not make enough product for even a small family gathering, especially with the recipes I use.Like other reviewers I would like to have lids that would fit snuggly and keep the ice cream or ?? covered.I've had to make a circular lid out of thick cardboard covered with tinfoil, but something that would fit over the entire top of the bowl would be better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Get out the earplugs
This machine was so loud that there must be something wrong. As the ice cream was being frozen it got louder and louder until I thought it might explode. I sent it right back and ordered the Lello Pro. Its a shame because this unit made a nice batch of ice cream. The Lello is supposed to be quieter though. Maybe the Cuisinart was broken though...

4-0 out of 5 stars yummy ice cream
I had tried a different ice cream maker that you had to freeze the bowl and returned it. It was too annoying to keep freezing the bowl and it took up too much space in my freezer. I love the cuisinaret Ice-50bc it makes great ice cream. The only negative is the noise and that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It is extremely noisy so I pretty much have to leave the room when it's on. I do recommend the Ben and Jerry's ice cream book but wish they would revise it or do another one. See my review on it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken out of the box and "Out of Warranty" on first Day?
I received my unit as a present. The electric conection of the motor arm was damaged when I opend the box.The connection is held in place with three bent metal tabs and one of them had broken off and the connector had slid into the motor arm and could no longer be attached. When I called Cuisinart, they said that the unit was "Out of Warranty". I asked if that meant the unit was more than three years old (bear in mind I thought I was buying a "new" unit), and they said yes it was more than three years old based on the serial number.

No salt or ice are needed to create 1 quart of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home with this ice-cream maker. Just turning thecrank occasionally for 15 or 20 minutes is all it takes. The unit's freezer bowlgoes into a refrigerator's freezer for about 7 hours to freeze the liquidbetween its walls. The bowl then goes into the outer case, the paddle goes intothe bowl, ingredients go into the bowl, the transparent top is locked in place, and the crank is turned. The aluminum bowl cleans easily, the outer case and topare plastic so they wipe clean. The unit measures 9-1/2 inches high and 8 inchesin diameter (not including handle). 5-0 out of 5 stars I love the Donvier!
Well, I do.It is simple to use and requires only the ingredients for the ice cream (no rock salt, etc.).Chill the ice cream base mix first and put the cylinder in a cold freezer.I just leave the cylinder in the chest freezer for storage.I have had mine for 10 years. No problems.Stir upon adding the first set of ingredients, and then get a feel for how frequently thereafter.I find that you cannot overstir.I can give this the necessary stirring whilst preparing other food or doing dishes.I am not at all bothered by the time commitment. The ice cream yield is about 6 good size servings.I will do a half recipe next time. After the initial 20 minutes, the ice cream is soft, so just freeze the whole cylinder, per the instructions, for about 30 minutes. Then, using a wooden utensil, get the ice cream out.I was able to get relatively hard ice cream. Frozen leftovers will indeed be hard.Let them warm on the counter. They are pretty good as well, although nothing beats the fresh ice cream. In addition to interesting ingredients, including quality dark chocolate, I can control the amount of sugar (sometimes using Splenda) and the fat (milk, skim, half and half, cream). It tastes better than any store bought.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for us
I received a 1 pint Donvier for Mother's Day. It's fabulous! Just the right amount for myself and my husband, but I now want the 1 quart size as well.

While not as easy as it appears, and more time consuming than expected, the quality of the end product is very good, so I give it 4 stars. ... Read more

On hot summer days nothing beats a scoop of snow--to eat! This delightful Snowman churns out bowlfuls of shaved ice in just seconds. Kids can slurp flavored sno-cones for a birthday party and adults can sip frozen daiquiris for evenings on the deck. Two 4-inch round plastic molds with lids are included for freezing water, syrup-flavored water, or fruit juices. Simply place the frozen round (regular ice cubes will work, too, but not as well) in the blade unit, cover with the motorized top, and press down on the palm-size operating button. A bowl placed underneath (not included) catches the instant snow. For safety the sharp blade is completely internal and not accessible to fingers when the Snowman is operating. The machine measures 13 inches high when assembled, with an 8-inch-square base. A one-year warranty covers the Snowman against defects. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Affordable Shave Ice Fun
My family has been using the Hamilton Beach Snowman Ice Shaver for a couple weeks now and we love it. I think it's one of the best things to get kids for the summer. When kids are hot, it's a great way to cool them off with something fun and healthy. Just freeze some grape juice or other yummy, healthy drink, and turn it into a shave ice!
4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Ice Shaver
I have bought this item and it works excellent. I used the mold to freeze orange juice, then i put the mold in and pressed the button. Out came perfectly shaved ice, just like snow.

Nicely built.Unlike the original makers in that ice is not completely surrounding the inner metal container. The recipes that come with book seem to take much longer to freeze than stated however.Think this may be related to bucket design.Overall a good ice cream maker, just takes a long time, 2.5 - 4 hours. The motor is supposed to slow down and stop when the ice cream is ready and we haven't gotten this to happen yet.We stop it after a time and freeze completely in freezer. But, we'll keep tryin'.......

4-0 out of 5 stars 6 quarts!
comes with a recipe book to make either 6 quarts, 5 quarts or 4 quarts and within about an hour, you've got homemade ice cream. the ice cream container has a lid to store the remaining (if there is any) in your freezer, but if all you have is the freezer above your refrigerator, you'll need another container because this one is too big. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Impressed!!
This was a temporary buy because I ordered a 6 QT electric White Mountain but had to wait 10 days for delivery and I wanted ice cream now. So I had little expectations.Boy, was I surprised. It worked better than the cuisinart electric. I must say the texture and consistency was perfect. The ice cream was ready in 35 minutes.I'll keep this one and look forward to many more batches of homemade ice cream.

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality
Makes great ice cream, but after about 6 uses, the plastic lid cracked. If you are planning on using your ice cream maker often (i.e. every couple of weeks), spend the $ and get a better quality one.

Editorial Review

Whether you crave an indulgence of rich chocolate ice cream, a light and frosty raspberry freeze, or a batch of frozen margaritas, this frozen dessert maker is ready to mix and freeze 1-1/2 quarts of your favorite treat at a moment's notice. The canister requires a minimum of 8 hours to freeze but dessert fans can store it in the freezer at all times for making spur-of-the-moment frozen treats. The patented canister has walls that are liquid-filled for even freezing and double insulated to keep the bowl colder for a longer period of time. When ingredients are ready, the stir paddle goes inside the canister and the plastic lid locks onto the canister. The lid is clear for checking that desserts reach the proper custard-like thickness and has an opening for easily adding chunky ingredients, such as chocolate chips or cookie dough, toward the end of processing. The powerful 38-watt motor fits onto the lid and the power switch starts the action. With the ice cream maker running, cooks pour their mixed recipes through the top of the lid and wait anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes for the ingredients to reach the proper consistency. The compact unit doesn't take up much counter space and, unlike more complicated ice cream makers, doesn't require hand cranking and needs no salt or ice in its recipes. This appliance comes with a book of 40 recipes and is covered by a one-year limited warranty. Read more

This is my first ice cream maker I keep the bowl in the freezer so that it is always ready to use. This machine is real easy to use I just mix up my ice cream mix (I use the mixes that can be bought in a store any of these can be used as long as it doesn't make more than 1 1/2 quarts) then I pour the mix into the machine and in about 20 minutes I have a perfect soft serve ice cream my 4 year old son likes to drink it as a milk shake. ... Fully automatic and precisely controlled by a timer, thismachine takes the trouble and guesswork out of making ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, gelato, and frozen drinks at home. Ingredientsgo into the bowl, the timer is set, two buttons are pressed and about30 minutes later 1-1/2 quarts of a frozen confection are ready forconsumption. Because the machine doesn't require its bowl to be frozenfor hours in a refrigerator's freezer (like less expensive machinesthat only churn), it can immediately begin making another batch. If abatch becomes too hard the machine shuts off automatically. Not onlydoes it work professionally it looks the part, as the housing, bowl, and paddle are made of stainless steel for sanitation and easycleaning. The 100-watt machine measures 12 inches wide, 11 inches high, and 18 inches deep, and it weighs 38 pounds. Made it Italy, it carriesa one-year warranty against defects. 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Machine
We're going to be making and eating ice cream and sorbet all the time.VERY easy to work, and simple to clean. It's not small and light, but looks pretty cool, so it'll be on our kitchen counter.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not The Best At All
I have been making ice cream in a Cuisinart machine for years but I wanted to regain my freezer space from the 2 canisters I had to keep ready.. I also wanted to make good gelato since I can't go to Italy all the time. I had first bought the Lussino 4080 by Musso. It was terrible. Too soft right out of the machine and full of ice crystals when put in the freezer for any amount of time. It didn't get firm, it became a rock. I returned it and got the Lello Gelato Pro instead. It is quieter, has a washable bowl, costs about half the money, weighs much less and makes 2 quarts rather than 1&1/2 quarts. There is no contest. The Lello is the superior machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Wait!
Took me a while to save for this machine, but it was well worth the time & money! (I still do not admit to friends and family how much I paid!)
