Editorial Review

For fluffy, evenly sized cheese shreds, this is the perfect grater. Its design is based on that of a rasp, the small and efficient woodworking tool. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the completely flat grating surface makes it easy to move the cheese across the blades. Carrots, onions, and medium to firm cheeses all worked beautifully with this grater. It's also an excellent choice for larger strips of citrus zest or ginger. Read more

  • Designed to extract the best flavor from your food
  • High-quality stainless steel with grating edges that stay razor sharp
  • Excellent for hard cheeses, onions, citrus fruits, ginger and more

  • Hand wash and dry thoroughly

We love this item!
5-0 out of 5 stars EASY!
I have watched chefs on cooking shows use this microplane and thought I would give it a try. I am thrilled. The first time I used it to zest a lemon, it took the zest and left the pith behind. I plan on using this item for many, many things and I know it will work just fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential tool
You can't do without one these days. But its origins lie beyond the ultra-modern 21st Century kitchen.

Winner of the RedDot design award in 2005, this Zyliss rotary grater set makes traditional stand-up models look like relics. Two interchangeable rotary drums with large, clog-free barrels click in and out of the white plastic housing to transition easily between fine and coarse grating. The large handle flips open to store the uncut cheese and features a non-slip thumb rest for a safe, secure hold. Just turn the barrel lever with the other hand, and the tool works its magic. For serving directly onto salads or pasta dishes, the snap-in funnel directs the cheese to go right where it's intended. When not in use, the compact grater folds down to store neatly in a kitchen drawer. All parts go safely in the dishwasher--no more reaching into awkward, sharp places to clean up. A favorite among professional chefs, this modern tool is sure to become a kitchen favorite as it grates hard cheese, nuts, or chocolate. It measures approximately 7-1/4 by 3-1/2 by 10-1/4 inches and comes with a five-year limited warranty. Read more

  • Rotary grater with two drums for fine and coarse cheese grating
  • Drums easily snap in and out of white plastic housing
  • Comfortable non-slip thumb rest; funnel to direct grated foods

  • Dishwasher-safe; 5-year limited warranty

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Cheese Grater yet !
I have bought many cheese graters over the years trying to find the perfect one to grate Cheddar cheese, with it being a soft cheese that's a real test for a grater.....but this is the first grater I have ever bought that did a perfect job...It's easy to crank (because of the larger handle it has) and it's really easy to clean because the grater barrel is bigger around than other graters....I have gotten rid of all my other graters that I have now because this one is simply the best !!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Slippery Grater
This item grates cheese well and I love the funnel, it helps direct the cheese where you want it.What I didn't like about this grater is that it is hard to hold on to.It's made of a very smooth plastic and it is very narrow toward the back. The whole time I was trying to grate cheese my hand was sliding toward the back of the grater, making it hard to keep a firm grip and keep the cheese pressed against the wheel. It says that is has a non-slip grip, but there is only a small spot with rubber where your thumb sits. ... Its bottom rimmed with rubber for slip-resistant stability onthe counter, this stylish box grater is made of mirror-finish, 18/8stainless steel and provides a serious cook with three grating bladesand one slicing blade. 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful--though a bit hulky.
This is just a great piece of equipment. It works beautifully and is so thoughtfully designed with the storage container. It is, as others mention, a pretty large size. You need to make more space for it--but this feature also makes it easier to use (sturdier and with larger cutting surface). If I were ordering again I might instead go for the microplane one because of its somewhat more delicate appearance [I've used it and it's also superb}--but I have no complaints about this.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice, bu could be a few bucks less
the quality is there, it works very well at the tasks designed for. very solid and all that. it is a grater plain and simple. my only issue is price, i'd say it would/should only be in the 14buck arena.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some design flaws
As I do a lot of home cooking from scratch, I was attracted to this product because of the bottom container with measurements thereon. Unfortunately the container is a dark charcoal, making seeing anything inside almost impossible. And, although most of what you are grating falls into the container bottom, quite a bit still falls in front of the grater (even if tilted backward at an angle), creating somewhat of a mess. Guess I'm back to using my flat metal grater which either hooks over the edge of a bowl or sits inside the bowl. Try again Kitchen Aid. ... Read more

I like the depth of this container.I use it more for storage than as a marinator because of its depth. This is excellent for keeping berries fresh.I have no use for the grater; I prefer the food processor and standing graters. The canister is a clear plastic, which looks much better than the smoke-colored ones.

Editorial Review

Cheese, nuts, and chocolate can be grated ahead of time with this rotary grater, and stored conveniently right inside the silicone-sealed chamber until ready to use. Or, cut the exact size chunk you want to grate, insert it, seal it, and just before serving you can churn out a fresh sprinkle of parmesan on a casserole or flourish that whipped cream topping with a dusting of dark chocolate shavings. To use, squeeze the soft-grip handles with one hand, which causes the silicone-edged feeder to push the food against the sharp stainless-steel grating cylinder, and turn the soft rotating knob with the other hand. A plastic cap on the barrel keeps grated pieces contained, or removes to let the food grate directly into a bowl, on a pie, etc. The stainless-steel grating cylinder measures 3 by 1-1/2 inches, while overall the grater measures 6 by 5 by 3-1/4 inches. Easily disassembled for cleaning, the entire grater is dishwasher-safe. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk.
I wish I would have read the reviews on this product before I purchased it.It is a piece of junk.I used it twice. The second time I used it it wouldn't grate the cheese and it made a clicking sound when I turned the handle and then the handle broke off. What a waste of money.Makes me think very differently about Good Grips products. One more thing - it wasn't very comfortable to use which I thought the Good Grips products were supposed to be.

3-0 out of 5 stars works great, but.......
it didn't last us very long.If you are grating hard cheeses, the plastic construction of the handle makes it very unlikely that it will hold up for a long time.It really should be stronger. Our handle broke off in the middle of grating some parmesan.Other than that I loved how you could seal the cheese inside the grater after you were done using it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect! Works great on all cheeses!
I have used this to grate dried peppers, parmesean, romano, cheddar, pepperjack, and goat cheese. I have to completely disagree with previous negative reviews. I bought this for the gripiness. Little did I know that it does do it all. It works on hard cheeses and soft cheeses. If you don't manhandle it, it will not break...just like most THINGS on this planet. Don't force it. Grind it backwards a couple of times once in a while. That loosens things up a little. Let the grinder do the work. Forcing will break it and is not necessary. It disassembles and washes up great on the top shelf of the dishwasher. The best feature is the ability to keep your cheese fresh while in the refrig. Smart item, easy to use, a great buy and highly recommended. ... Read more

Shaving off thin, even pieces of cheese with a knife can be a tricky. Hand-held cheese slicers designed to be drawn across a piece of cheese, make the task much easier. Trudeau's adjustable cheese slicer makes the job easier still, with a steel roller that creates a smooth slicing motion. The soft, rubber handle of this slicer also has a ridged thumb spot for a no-slip grip, and is slightly curved for extra leverage. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Handheld Cheese Slicer
The Trudeau Adjustable Cheese Slicer is simply the best handheld cheese slicer I've ever used. It's ergonomic, sturdy, smoothly operating, easy to adjust and easy to clean.

3-0 out of 5 stars Had high hopes for this one....
I really liked it. It's a sturdy product with a great feel.Best one I've ever had until the wire broke. No problem!!It came with an extra wire. However,no one in my family can get the new wire in place! It appears to be a smidgen (very precise term of measurement....) too short.I get one little "cube" in place, but the other doesn't stretch far enough to get into its hole.My husband & I fiddled with it for a week.I wrote to the company, asking for help.I asked if there was a trick to using the replacement wire. I also expressed an interest in purchasing extra wires (to have on hand in case it breaks again). The instructions I received was a scan of the back of the packaging, telling me how to adjust the wire for different widths. *sigh*That wasn't the problem.I also found out that they do not sell replacement wires! You only get the one that comes with it.However I commend the company for their quick reply, and for their warranty. There is a 5 year warranty, and they will replace the entire slicer if both wires break. You do have to send in the "damaged" one.It really would be a whole lot simpler if they explained how to replace the wire, and offered additional wires (free or for a nominal fee) to their customers.

1-0 out of 5 stars OVER HYPED.
ACTUALLY I WOULD NOT RATE THIS ITEM WITH ANY STARS.

I used this grater last night for the first time with some pasta and was amazed at the quantity of cheese it produced in just a couple of strokes. 1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy Microplane products if you live in Europe!
Fantastic product, but way overpriced in Europe. The company website lets you order online, but has separate websites for both USA and Europe. You can only order from USA website if you live in USA.We europeans are forced to pay highly inflated prices of more than 120% markup (i.e. more than double) that of the prices on US website, and if you search around to shop in Europe you will find prices much the same.
3-0 out of 5 stars NOT up to par
Yes, this is still an improvement over box graters. However, it is not fabulous.
5-0 out of 5 stars Go to for quick jobs
I use this for grating brick cheese whenever I need a relatively small amount -- like cheese as a garnish, not cheese as an ingredient. For big jobs, I head for the food processor.Sometimes in a moment of insanity, I whip out a box grater.I think this is a lot safer than a box grater, but maybe not as fast.

This versatile cheese slicer glides through hard or semi-soft cheeses with ease and makes light work of creating cheese trays or hors d’oeuvres for a party. The slicer measures 7-3/4 inches from head to handle’s end and has a thick plastic handle with stainless-steel accents for more controlled movements. The head of the slicer has a 4-inch-wide wire and roller made of heavy-duty stainless steel, which is less likely to snap under pressure when cutting through heavier cheeses. For additional durability, the wire and roller are mounted to a sturdy fiberglass-reinforced nylon frame with cast bolsters. This professional-level slicer is dishwasher-safe for easier cleanup. 3-0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, But Not Adjustable...
This cheese slicer is great - if you like thick slices of cheese. If you want anything less than 1/8", good luck!Your hand will have to be more steady than mine, otherwise, you're stuck with thick slices of cheese. On the positive side, this item like Kitchenaid's other utensils is sturdy and easy to keep clean.Check the big box discounters, I saw this for $4.99 after buying it for $7.99.

4-0 out of 5 stars VERY SOLID CHEESE SLICER
To be honest, when i slice cheese I just prefer to use a good, old fashioned abd sharp Chef's knife.I've always hated the way cheese slicers leave that tiny bit of unsliced cheese at the bottom where the slicer does not go down all the way. That said i got this as a Christmas gift and it does a great job. It's good sized, feels comfortable in your hand and grips well.Best of all it's the favorite of the rest of the family who is not as comfortable around a chef's knife as I am.Nice item.Does it's job. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GRATE-IFIC
Ginger, Garlic and Nutmeg are now my favorite additions to any of my dishes.I put fresh spices and herbs on more dishes than ever thanks to the ease of the micro fine grater! If you have never tried fresh Nutmeg, buy this tool and try it, it's 100 times tastier than that pre-pakaged stuff that sits in your pantry for years! Plus the "whole" Nutmeg lasts along time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well built - Effortless
I was looking for an electric grater, because my hands get tired very easily and grating had become a real chore. After reading reviews, I decided to give a manual grater one more try. Well, it is a pleasure to use a well-designed tool that delivers what it promises. Grating is effortless, you can produce mounds of grated cheese in no time and without hand fatigue. I bought the attachment for it, and while I have used without it for larger chunks of cheese, I recommand it for smaller pieces. The grater is very sharp(that is what makes so easy to use), and you would not want to grate the tips of your fingers with it! Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!
I wonder if the viewer who had the grater handle crack in the dishwasher didn't buy a cheap imitation grater. There are many look-alikes that are not the Microplane brand, and I would trust nothing but Microplane.I have washed mine in the dishwasher (although I prefer to quickly clean in the sink right after I use it before stuff gets dry and stuck) and I have never had any of my Microplanes break.I own every type of Microplane and they are amazing.Don't buy a discounted imitation product, when the Microplane will give you years of great use (thus saving you money in the end!) ... Made of 18/10 stainless steel, this long, 14-inch grater has a fine grating surface on one end for citrus zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, or garlic and a coarser end for grating hard cheese, chocolate, or vegetables. Its Accutec blade is photo-etched rather than stamped like most grating blades. As such, the blade is extremely sharp and holds its edge over time. This blade also glides through food without tearing or shredding, retaining the food’s fresh flavor. Plastic handles at either end of the grater are useful for holding in one hand and grating. You can also rest the grater over the top of a bowl to grate directly into the dish you’re preparing. This dual grater has eyes for hanging at each end and is dishwasher-safe. This kitchen tool is covered by a lifetime warranty. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars grating cheese has never been easier
It's not like all cheese graters are quite different from each other. The Pedrini Black & Satin Stainless Steel Pyramid Grater is basically like all the others except this one is made out of stainless steel which means, once you buy it, you will probably never have to buy another cheese grater again. That's a sign of a really good grater.

2-0 out of 5 stars it works...just not so well
The holes in this grater are set too far apart and make it very difficult to grate something as simple as a carrot. It gets the job done...eventually but it's definately not easy.No real complaints for the cheese grating quality though...it seems to work ok for that area.

4-0 out of 5 stars easy to use and less of a mess
I prefer a box grater to the flat or hand-held models. They are so much easier to use and create less of a mess if you have limited counter space to work with or are trying to get semi-exact measurments. Plus they are great with kids - my two girls love to help out with the cooking and take their job of cheese grating VERY seriously. Keeping fingers at a safe distance, hold shaver at an angle and run food in a downward motion over the grating plane. 35 razor-sharp blades, staggered on the arched cutting surface, cut effortlessly and resist clogging for continuous grating. A band of rubber encircling the bottom edge prevents slipping and provides stability. The stainless-steel handle features rounded edges for a comfortable hold, and finishes with a small metal loop to simplify storage. Measuring 13-1/2 by 3 by 1 inches, this tool carries a polished shine and is dishwasher-safe. To protect against dulling, cover cutting surface with accompanying plastic blade guard when not in use. 5-0 out of 5 stars The best grater I ever owned
This is truely a professional grater.Does a great job with hard cheeses and chocolate, etc..Looks and feels great in the hand, and is impressive to have on the table for your dinner guests to grate their own Parmesan.

5-0 out of 5 stars The 'Professional' is worth it!
This is the second Microplane grater that I have purchased, but theonly 1 of the 2 that I would give a 5* rating to.The other grater was from the standard line not the professional line. With many kitchen items there are no significant differences between the two, but in this case it definitely matters!

The fine grater disc makes easy work of grating Parmesan or Romano cheese for topping pasta dishes, nuts or coconut for topping cookies and cakes, ginger for adding to spice pastes and for seasoning a variety of Asian dishes, or horseradish to make your own horseradish sauce. Best of all, this disc lets you forget about scraping any more knuckles on that hand-held grater. The disc slots easily onto the detachable disc stem, but be sure to handle it carefully, as these blades are very sharp. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine grater disc works fine
Grating very hard Italian cheese by hand was difficult and slow, so this disc makes a huge difference. The disc itself, while bearing the Cuisinart name, was made in China, but seems manufactured to high standards. My only complaint is that some of the cheese remains ungrated and gets wedged under the disc. However, overall the disc does a great job of producing very fine cheese. I have not tried it on anything other than cheese.

5-0 out of 5 stars Old School perfection
I've owned this for years and am ordering one for my kid for Christmas this year because I'm tired of him borrowing it all the time. The best feature here is simplicity. The machine will run continuously without the food pusher in place. The newer "safety" version stops when the pusher is removed. You can pour oil in the machine while it's running to make mayonaise or grate cheese or carrots without stopping. This makes great dough for pies, pasta and noodles too. I've often wished for a larger workbowl or more accesories but in reality that happens rarely. It took me a while online to find a plastic blade to make mayo but it can be done with the metal one. This machine is indispensible in my kitchen. ... Read more

Microplane kitchen graters came into being through a happy accident; a Canadian housewife used her husband's wood rasp to zest some oranges for a cake, and she that its sharp steel edges worked better than any of the standard graters she'd been using.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good, with all the expected strengths and weaknesses
I got this Microplane rotary grater to replace a tired old Mouli rotary grater of a very similar design. I picked it for the famous 'Microplane' name which works so well in the form of a straight rasp shaped grater. I was also drawn to how neatly the three leaves of the holder fit so snugly together, holding the cylinder so firmly in place, unlike my wire / metal device which seemed to be in danger of falling apart with a slip of the hand.
5-0 out of 5 stars Faboo!
I just got the rotary grater and I am delighted. It is super-sharp and grates both hard and soft cheeses effortlessly. So far, I have tried it with parmesan and mozzarella. I have used both drums for the parmesan and both produce pleasing results.I like the fact that it can be used with the right or left hand. (I'm a lefty; my husband is a righty.) It also cleans well in the dishwasher.
