A true multitasker
This thing is great! It's up for scraping the seeds out of a cuke, coring apples, and even (!) making pretty little melon balls. It's easy to clean, it's grippy, and it comes with two different sizes on the ends - just one scoop didn't cut it for OXO. They went above and beyond the call of duty. If only the people who set the price on this thing would do the same... Though it's somewhat pricey for the small gadget it is, I think it's worth the money just in the amount of time it saves me scooping the seeds out of the middle of apples. And plums and other small stone fruit as well.

Absolutely the best melon baller you're going to find short of the electro/mechanical Tobina Deluxe...Save yourself the money, this one is a winner!

Sturdy & Comfortable
I previously had a "Brand X" melon baller which, with occasional use, developed a cracked handle which I had to tape to keep together and later, the scoop end broke off! I broke down and got the best... the OXO is really sturdy and, as with all their products, comfortable to use. I can tell I'll get years of use out of it without it falling to pieces like my previous one. It just goes to show, even with a product that only gets occasional use, it doesn't pay to get a cheap one! ... Read more

Good Slicer + So-so Handgaurd = 4.5 Stars
I have to agree with most of the reviewers here.The handgaurd was good for slicing softer veggies (no problem with potatoes).For harder veggies (like carrots), it's a totally different story.I would reccomend you use either a cut resistant glove for chopping.As for lenghwise julienne slices, the hand gaurd from my Borner V-slicer is wonderful.
Works great, very sharp, use carefully
I have had this mandolin for over two years now.I use it regularly for cucumber, apple, carrot, potato, cabbage...The blade is sharp, and I agree with other reviews, the safty guard is not very effective.However, I have never cut myself using the mandolin.I wash and dry it after each use, and have no problem with rusting.In fact, I just bought one for my parents because they were impressed with it.My Japanese friend also has one.It's practically in every home in Japan.Don't think you can find another good mandolin at this price.Giving it 4-star review because the safty guard can be improved.

Great slicer while it lasts
This is an excellent slicer.I've used everything in it from carrots (when making my carrot version of thai papaya salad) julienned into matchstick thickness to wide thin slices of Korean radish.Never failed me.

You can make tiny little balls of ice cream to put into a float with these, or use your melon baller to scoop out gourds and squashes for interesting appetizers. Makes it easy to get a nice round segment of just about any fruit.

The best grater I ever owned
This is truely a professional grater.Does a great job with hard cheeses and chocolate, etc..Looks and feels great in the hand, and is impressive to have on the table for your dinner guests to grate their own Parmesan.

The 'Professional' is worth it!
This is the second Microplane grater that I have purchased, but theonly 1 of the 2 that I would give a 5* rating to.The other grater was from the standard line not the professional line.With many kitchen items there are no significant differences between the two, but in this case it definitely matters!

A great tool, only one tiny detail
I feel the scoop is just a tad too big. I had another mellon baller, just as good as the KitchenAid, but the balls were smaller and just so cute. Still, it's a great tool and can help in so many ways, not just cantaloupe, but cheeses, cucumbers, and other fruits!
