The French press is considered by many coffee aficionados to be the best way to make a perfect cup of coffee because no paper filter absorbs the essence of the flavor. Bodum’s Kenya line features the same elegant glass carafe as its original Chambord press, but handsomely employs heat-resistant, lightweight polypropylene for the lid and one-piece handle and cradle. To make coffee with a French press, remove the plunger/top ensemble, add coarse ground coffee to the glass carafe, add hot (but not boiling) water, stir with a non-metal spoon, and position the top and plunger in place. Allow the coffee to brew for about four minutes before slowing pushing down on the plunger. Pushing too hard or too quickly may cause hot liquid to squirt out. The flat lid features two spout covers: one slotted for pouring, and one solid for heat and aroma retention. When holding the handle, hands are thoughtfully protected from the hot glass by a vertical bar of the heat-resistant cradle. To clean, simply scoop out the used grounds and pop the entire unit into the dishwasher. A plastic coffee measuring spoon is included. This 48-ounce model makes twelve four-ounce cups of coffee. I can't tell the difference
I saw this BonJour model at a national discount retail chain this weekend and decided to put it to the test against my Bodum.The price was only $19.99 which is half of what I paid for my Bodum.They looked identical when placed next to eachother.So, what's the difference?
LOVE it - been using this for 3 years now!
The Bonjour coffee press was mentioned in a magazine (maybe Esquire?) as a top pick and after a little more research, we purchased an 8-cup version.We (and our dinner guests) loved it so much, we decided to get the 12-cup version.

only one part is unbreakable, the others snap like twigs
I got this for my wife for Xmas 2005, as we have a nasty habit of breaking the glass carafes of french presses.The company is right about one thing:the polycarbonate carafe is much stronger than glass carafes and I can't imagine it breaking under normal use.BUT in less than 6 months the inner press piece to which the filter attaches has broken THREE times.This was under absolutely normal use.The piece is clearly made of insufficiently sturdy plastic.So much for "unbreakable."Once the filter piece goes the whole thing is no more usuable than a french press with a broken carafe.SO.... the whole thing is hardly "unbreakable"!

I was so tired of that plastic taste you get from most coffee makers. This coffee press makes about 3 cups of fresh, great tasting coffee. Don't Buy! You will get Burned! (Literally & Figuratively)
DANGER!!!This is the most dangerous tea kettle ever!Both my son and I got burned using it.The handle is not completely covered and the metal gets red hot.In addition, the steam comes up and hits your hand when you hold the covered part of the handle.If that wasn't bad enough,you must remove the cap to pour water and the cap only has a metal ( which gets red hot) handle attached with which you can remove it!This product needs to be taken off from the market!

Simply insert the plastic coffee catcher in the glass carafe, measure one rounded tablespoon of coarsely ground coffee per 4-ounce cup, pour in the hot water, stir, and place the lid on the carafe. Wait approximately 4 minutes, then slowly press down the filter. The filter will snap into the coffee catcher, trapping all the loose grounds. When you pull the filter out, it pulls the coffee grounds out with it. Great for some people, but not for my tastes.
I'm very picky about my coffee.I'm the type who buys whole beans from a local coffee roaster in small batches and know when the roasting dates are.I buy just enough to last me 2 weeks and no more.I do this to keep my stock fresh.I bring the coffee home and grind it myself -just before brewing- in a coffee MILL, not in those cheap blade grinder.I also use fresh reverse-osmosis-filtered (not tap or bottled) water to bring out the full flavor of the coffee.After all this work, I know I must use the best coffee maker.After using paper filters for so many years, I thought I try the French Press because one of my Seattle friends (w/Starbucks connections) told me that's the TRUE way to make coffee.I even watched a Starbucks video where the coffee expert used the French Press to make the coffee.So, I thought, "Hey, I gotta get myself this Bodum 8-cup French Press!"After using it for several months, I switched back to using paper filters.Why?Because I didn't like the extra residue in my coffee.I think it actually ruined the coffee than enhance it.Yes, I tried different grinds (extra fine to extra coarse) and even varied the brew time.Still, I preferred the clean taste that paper filters gave me.Yes, the plastic coffee catcher thing this comes with is more of a gimmick... I took it off and kept it off the whole time I used this coffee maker.It doesn't really work that well...instead, it just adds one more thing to clean at the end... another hassle.Another thing I hate is the fragile glass flask.I already broke it once while cleaning it only after a month of owning it.I had to go buy a replacement that costed almost half the original price of a brand new unit.Now that I've switched back to paper filters, this thing just sits on the counter...a pretty-looking kitchen ornament and something to impress the guests with I guess.It's a matter of taste... if you're the type who like really strong coffee and don't mind the residue, then this is for you.If you're the type who like stout beer and ales with the residue floating around, then you'll like this.When I mean residue, I don't mean big chunks of coffee beans floating around or anything nasty.It's more like the difference between apple juice versus apple cider (murky).My Starbucks friend who loves extra extra dark strong coffee swears by this thing.He's the kind who thinks that coffee grown in Vietnam is the best coffee... the strongest coffee sold in America is too weak for him.Go figure.

It works, and the coffee catcher is a godsend
Other reviewers have complained that this is advertised as 8-cup but is actually 4-cup. The "cups" specified are 4oz coffee cups, not 8oz US measuring cups. I really like the coffee press.It makes great coffee, as long as the water isn't too hot (if it's too hot, coffee will be bitter).As other people have mentioned when reviewing the presses, when the product says "8 cup" it's not referring to a standard 8 oz cup.A standard "cup" of coffee is 4 oz.The entire thing dismantles (including the filter), so it's easy to clean.My only prob is keeping coffee grounds from the filter out of my sink because I don't have a garbage disposal.But, that's my problem. ...
