4-0 out of 5 stars Best machine in this price range
I've been using this machine for a good month now, and I'm very happy with it. While I'm no stranger to espresso, having spent many dollars at my local coffee houses, this is my first home espresso machine.
4-0 out of 5 stars great for small quantities; check your warranty terms
There's a lesson in this review: make sure to check with the warranty provider how long it takes to fix a broken machine. With some providers, it may take up to three months where you'll be without your machine, and since these small espresso machines might break often, it's an important factor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great concept, great espresso, so-so machine quality
I have two Nespresso machines and generally love the concept. Great coffee, quick and easy to make. Outstanding when it works. Two issues:
2-0 out of 5 stars Questionable Quality
I purchased this machine, enjoyed ONE cup of espresso and then the machine broke. No reasoning behind it. Spent two calls with customer service (they were great), but the machine was beyond repair and I had to take it back. Something about a router problem. My thinking is that a $500 machine should have the kinks worked out before it hits the shelf.Luckily I had just purchased it from a local retailer so I didn't have to hassle with postal. I'm going back to Saeco.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but there are better choices available
Good machine, but I would recommend Nespresso E350 Romeo. It costs $150 more, but if you really love good espresso it worth it. You will get much more choices and better quality from Romeo and it is very easy to operate. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value for the price
I bought this machine because I wanted to upgrade, and with a 20% discount coupon from a local major retailer the price was about $360.00. I also wanted a machine that would take ESE pods. I use Starbucks. Very solidly built machine. The first cup of espresso was excellent, much better flavor and more crema than my last machine. I don't know if this was due to the pre-brew feature, but this machine extracted a much better cup of espresso than what I was used to.
3-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but has serious shortcomings
I very much wanted to love this machine, but am about ready to return it (not to Amazon, I bought it locally) because of several negative points. I agree that the fit and finish of the 800ESXL is amazing, with well thought out features like the storage compartment, and it is very sturdy. The machine makes an acceptable shot of espresso with proper grind and tamp. BUT ...
2-0 out of 5 stars Looks great but only works when filters are not clogged...
After one month of use, no espresso would come out of brew head. Cleaning the filter holes with the provided tool is tedious and ulitmately does not work, because the coffe grinds are forever trapped between the two walls of the filter. Breville instructs to soak clogged filters in vinegar overnight and then run water only through filterhead on machine to clear - this does not work either. Breville says its because the coffee I was using was too fine of grind...ILLY only was recommended. I tried to order replacement filters, they were on permanent back order - they must have sold them all to clogged filter owners. Customer service was poor, they didn't tell me the filters were backorderd until I called for status. Weeks later Breville sent me a can of ILLY coffee, but unfortunately with clogged filters I can not use it. I returned the machine to retailer who agreed it was not acceptable performance. Be very careful with the grind of coffee, and get on the list for extra filter inserts - $10 each BTW. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good for the money
We have had our machine for about a year and a half, and so far the only problem we have is that the frothing nozzle began to drip hot water on to the counter (the seal probably went bad). but the unit still works just fine for making our drinks. The reason for 4 stars is the leaking nozzle and Hamilton Beach could make it more convienient to get replacments for lost or broken parts. We lost the frothing nozzle cover and are still trying to figure out how to get another one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice machine!
I really like this machine. It is convenient and easy to use. It makes great cappuccino. The steam feature works fine. The machine heats up fast so when I want a quick cup before work its great and once the machine heats up you can make multiple cups without a long wait time.
1-0 out of 5 stars A Disappointed Optimistic
I had read most of the comments rating this product before I decided to take a chance and buy.I was split 60/40 with the odds being in my favor that the product would work as promised.WRONG! The unit I received was clearly defective from the beginning. The expresso maker leaked water from the top of the machine, it did not allow the water to get hot, and it did not produce steam to make cappuccinos. It's sad that Hamilton Beach does not quality control their products.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Features, But...
I really liked the feature set on this machine... Double punch a button and it goes through the cycle twice. Easy to program the amount of water for the single and double shot buttons. Rapid response from steam to making coffee. Well placed and easy to use milk frother.
1-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable, but great if it isn't broken
Mine required sending back 3 times during the warrantee period. For this reason, I cannot recommend it. However, when it works it makes great coffee, provides steam quickly, and has a number of great features. The dump box that receives the coffee grounds is very small and is hard to get to for emptying and cleaning. This is identical to the Gaggia Syncrony Compact.

4-0 out of 5 stars No more tamping and knockout boxes
I purchased this machine as a "refurb" in silver color here on Amazon.com for half the price of the black one new.Normally the silver version is $100 more than the black one (on Saeco's own USA outlet site they are selling the silver refurbs for $600 so for $369 here on Amazon with the $25 housewares coupon that is frequently offered, this was a great deal! The machine looked brand new, other than the fact it came in a plain brown box. For a savings of $300 to $400 over the same model new, I am quite happy with the condition of the machine I received. The box says "Refurbished Class A" so maybe Amazon is getting only the cream of the refurb crop from the U.S. Distributor (Cafe West Dist.). I have had the machine for about a week now and have really put it through its paces (around 30 to 40 shots already). I set the machine to make long pulls at approx. 4 ounces and espresso shots at 1 oz. The coffee comes out quite nice with a decent crema on it. When it makes coffee the machine is quite loud with three thumping noises as the inside machinery whirls around and does its magic. I do not mind this but if you have light sleepers in your household it might wake them up. The product manual is not very clear and it takes a while to figure out what the different blinking lights mean (i.e., steady light no so and so means bean hopper empty while blinking light so and so means you need to empty the pucks out of the machine). Also emptying the pucks means you have to open the access door, slide out the drip tray and then remove the puck box, which is inserted into the drip tray. This procedure is a little much but can be done quickly once you are used to it. Everything I have read on these machines says that if you perform normal maintainence (i.e., remove and clean brewing mechanism and brew group once a week, descale when machine says to, etc.) they will last a long time. People that do not maintain them seem to have trouble with them (like any finely tuned machine you need to keep it clean, etc.). Overall, I rate this machine a 4 because even though the coffee is decent it does not make as nice a shot as a high end manual machine, but I wanted speed and convenience and that is what I got. If I have any problems I will update this review but so far I am quite happy with the product I received. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent Performance
The machine is pretty good in terms of features, noise, and time, but it never delivered a consistent cup of espresso.Sometimes the strength would be fine, other times it would be very weak.I would use the same technique each time, but the result would be different.I tried a stronger roast, a different grind - couldn't ever get the machine to brew a cup of espresso the same way twice.I purchased a $30 machine from Target years ago that this one replaced and the $30 jobbie was much better and delivered the same cup of java every time.Disappointing.I guess I'll try a cheaper machine this time around.

5-0 out of 5 stars magic
this baby whips out the blackest black coffe faster than I'm able to down it. Never mind the price. It is magic in its pure form...

5-0 out of 5 stars A total buy - work excellent, affordable price
We had this machine for over half a year, and we use it every day to make at least 2 cups of latte. It took us some time to practive (to adjust how much coffee bean we need to use per shot, and how much espresso we should take every time, etc), after the practice, we now can make very consistent espresso, and the machine is working very reliable! We love it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great looking machine, great tasting espresso
I almost didn't buy this machine because I was worried about some of the negative reveiws I've read about it from users. However, it was the only machine its price range that really caught our eye, so we went ahead and purchased it and have been using it for about six months. It is hands down the best machine I've ever owned. It has great features, and the espresso is the best espresso I've made at home, and better than most espresso I can buy in american coffee shops.A quick rundown of the great features.
3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Looks - Poor Functionality
I wanted to share with others what I wish I had known before I bought this machine. If I had known these things, I wouldn't have bought it. Unfortunately, there are a lot of fake reviews out there, which I read before buying, so beware!
1-0 out of 5 stars Form over function
The machine looks great. It sat nicely on our counter-top next to the Kitchen Aid mixer and looked really classy. If that was all I wanted to do with it, then I would have been very happy with it, but I actually wanted to make decent lattes and espressos.

Editorial Review

Espresso makers can be tricky but the Artese is designed to be less intimidating than most and, in addition to being easy to use, it brews excellent espresso. This pump espresso machine has an advanced Thermobloc system with 15 bars of pressure to consistently deliver delicious espresso, cappuccino, or latté drinks. Advanced electronic controls let you tailor the coffee to your taste. You may alter the water flow for each cycle so that the precise amount of espresso is brewed at the desired strength. A memo button sets your preferences so you can have your coffee just as you like it every day. The Artese is also one of the only pump machines with an adjustable portafilter, allowing you to accommodate varying amounts of espresso--a single versus a double shot--by simply turning a dial rather than having to change the filter as is required on most other machines. Additionally, the CLARIS water filtration system improves your coffee’s taste by filtering out 85 percent of the chlorine taste and other harmful minerals found in tap water.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Great!!.....but not.
I've had this machine for 2 years which is why I gave it 2 stars. At first I was impressed, but as I got better at being a barister I found the milk didn't get as hot as I would like.I got great foam, just not enough heat. The clean up for the steamer got to be a drag. But this didn't make me dislike the machine. It was when the electrical went haywire that I began to dislike this machine. The machine turns on but when you push the button for 1 or 2 cups of espresso, the machine immediately turns off.I turn it back on, wait and the game begins, will it or won't it give me an espresso. Some days I win the game after a couple of hours and some days the machine wins and I'm off to Starbucks for a fix. My next machine will be a simple one.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful machine
I bought this machine 8 months ago. It makes the best espresso, latte and cappuccino. It is so easy to use and clean. It make a nice foam even if I can froth half and half but in this case you have to raise the milk container about 3 inches higher (because the liquid is denser). I paid for this machine $229. Also I bought another one to use it in my office lately.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice but no foam
I just got mine and still learning how to use it.The espresso is great, however I am a Latte drinker and I can not get the foamer to create foamed milk.In fact the milk is not very hot that comes out of the tap.Turning the tap all the way to the bottom produces steam, however it does no seem in infuse it into the milk. ... Editorial Review

He likes double shot cappuccinos with extra foam, she loves decaf lattes with skim milk...now they can have both and sip them in bed. Flama's FL1250 espresso maker brews one- or two-cup portions in a compact, simple-to-use machine. Powerfully running on 1000 watts, the stainless-steel boiler heats the water to the correct temperature for brewing, and the 15-bar pressure pump produces light, consistent foam. Just add ground coffee or pods, fill the water tank, place the cups on the drip tray, and choose the desired setting. The indicator light announces when the machine is ready to brew. For lattes and mochas, the convenient steamer tool produces frothy milk, controlled by the steam regulation knob on the side. This hard-working machine also does more: it comes with an auto-priming system and anti-scale protection to keep things running smoothly. No need for disappointments first thing in the morning! To store, the cord tucks away in a storage compartment. Disassemble the parts and wash by hand to clean. The espresso maker measures 10-3/4 by 9-1/2 by 12-3/4 inches. Read more
