4-0 out of 5 stars Worth buying
I bought this machine after reading the reviews here and elsewhere on the Web.I agree with the good reviews. What people didn't mention, however, are:
2-0 out of 5 stars The most expensive, yet wonderously excellent espresso you'll ever have
It makes a fabulous and consistent cup of espresso, with many varities of coffee to choose from. Its easy, drop in the capsule and simply rinse off the removable capsule drop area.I'm not sure if its easier than a traditional espresso machine. In a traditional machine, you simply pack some grounds into a filter, instead of using a capsule.
5-0 out of 5 stars Say goodbye to Starbucks (and mean it)
I must first disclose that I am not an espresso connoisseur; I drink lattes and cafes-au-lait, and until the time my husband (a quad-espresso per day drinker) purchased the Nespresso C100, I had been a loyal Starbucks patron for at least 9 years. We've had the C100 now for over a month and since firing it up the first time, neither he nor I have stepped foot in a Starbucks. If you're not an espresso drinker and are afraid of the C100 PLUS a regular coffeemaker taking up counter space, fear no more. The C100 has two default settings -- one pulls an espresso, and the other, a 4-ounce "lungo" -- *and* its volume, unlike the C90, is also programmable.I've heard some people complaining about the noise Nespresso machines make, but really, have you ever listened to the noise -- and I'm not talking about the deafening and/or obnoxious music -- coming out of Starbucks??As far as the quality goes, I haven't had coffee this good since my trip to Europe. It is consistent, never burnt-smelling/tasting (especially since the coffee doesn't sit around after being made), and does not require extensive doctoring to make it palatable.I now drink a plain ol' lungo, not a drink whose desciption requires a memory capable of beating the upper levels of "Simon Says."The only drawbacks, which are not enough to demote this rating to 4 stars, are the mandatory pod-ordering (and waiting), and the cost of accessories. If you don't believe me, go to Nespresso's website and see what a podholder costs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I Live on This! The Darker the Roast the Better
Starbucks Espresso Roast is hands down my all time favorite beverage. I drink this incredible dark roast, which makes it taste (and smell) so great, day and night. After trying so many different roasts, the whole beans in this one are awesome. The flavor is so rich. Once you drink this, you'll never go back to weak, poorly grown, watered down, bland so-called coffee. The Arabica beans are what to look for that make this full body coffee so great.
5-0 out of 5 stars Has Starbucks changed their roast recently?
It seems like about a couple months ago there appeared this odd but distinct new smell to most of Starbuck's coffee. Mainly in the Expresso, but lesser in breakfast blends.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee
As for espresso coffee, this is the best by far. I own a pavoni europiccloa lever machine and have made home espresso everyday for the past 11 years. To date, Starbucks is the best coffee and the only coffee I have used for the past couple of years (I have tried Lavazza and Illy recently and simply was disappointed).

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY DELONGHI
If you want to make 30 cups of espresso then go ahead and buy this.It makes OK coffee. If you want more than this though go buy something else from someone else. The steam tap on mine jammed and it has been at Delonghi for repair now for over four months (YES MONTHS) and I still don;t know when it will be returned, if ever.Customer service know (or share) nothing. I have since done a lot of internet research and it's littered with tales of disgraceful customer 'service' by Delonghi.(I wish I'd done this before buying.)Don't waste your time and money like I did.

2-0 out of 5 stars Customer service-lacking
I got this machine as a gift for Valentine's Day. I spent a number of years in Seattle and am a bit spoiled when it comes to quality coffee drinks, so my dh thought this would be a great idea.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great machine
This is our first espresso maker in our home. We've had it for several weeks now--many many cups worth--and we're still impressed. It makes a wonderful cup of espresso, and lattes too.It is well thought out, and well put together; seems very solid.Instructions were good. This was a great buy for the money, and I can't imagine the espresso makers costing hundreds more being any better than this. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Machine for the price
After reading all the gaggia reviews (Capressa and Evolution) I decided to splurge for the extra $50 and go for the evolution. Setup was pretty easy (why the two manuals, I dont know but took about 15 minutes to setup). Overall, sturdy machine. My last one (a $75 Briel Apollo) lasted a few years and the boiler broke. This one is sturdier and feels solid. First cups came out perfect. For the money, you cant beat this machine. Highly reccommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb value, nice design, some corners cut
After calculating exactly how much money I've forked over to Starbuck$ in the last 4 years in exchange for burnt-coffee-flavored milk, I decided to look for a tastier, "wordlier", yet money-saving option. I did give the Nespresso machines a hard look (those use a metal capsule and they are quick, clean, and the coffee tastes quite good), but I eventually decided against them because the capsules are somewhat expensive ($0.50/piece plus shipping), and only available in a few different "beans". A regular espresso machine, such as this Gaggia model, opens up the world of exotic coffees and the pleasure of preparing them.
3-0 out of 5 stars good espresso, lukewarm milk
I like this machine, and it makes great espresso. However, it is noisy and I wish I could get the milk hotter.Perhaps it is just operator error, but I can't get the milk hot enough for my liking. If your only interest is perfect espresso and you don't really care about hot milk, this machine is a good choice. ... Editorial Review

A compact way to get your daily shot, the DeLonghi Alicia Electric Moka espresso maker satisfies the dueling needs for convenience and caffeine. Italian in origin and engineering, DeLonghi is well respected for its small appliance innovations, and this unit boasts several, from durable construction to safety features. Because it is outfitted with a cool-touch base, the Alicia goes anywhere you can plug it in. The sturdy aluminum boiler is built for frequent use, and the container is transparent to let you track the brewing progress. The boiler automatically shuts off to prevent overheating and, in the case of inopportune phone calls, keeps your coffee warm for up to 30 minutes. The Alicia also automatically switches off when you remove the coffee-maker from the base. Additional helpful features include an indicator light, a cool-touch handle, and a swiveling base. Measuring 5.12 by 8.27 by 10.63 inches, the Alicia churns out 3 to 6 cups of espresso. The 3-cup adaptor is available separately. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It has a big flaw, but I love it anyway
I'm on my 2nd Electric Moka machine. The first one died when the plastic piece on top cracked near the handle and it began to leak. I realize now that it cracked from tightening the top piece by rotating the plastic handle rather than grabbing the metal mid-section.I also realize that I began tightening it extra tight when the rubber washer inside started to wear out.So that's the deal. Replace the washer when it gets ragged and don't screw the pot together with the plastic handle.Do these two things and the machine will last ages.BTW, it makes FANTASTIC espresso, is easy to clean, is compact and very cute.I love it!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Wish it would have lasted longer
I loved this coffee maker for about 10 months. It used to make excellent european style coffee until the upper (plastic) part of it cracked. I did NOT drop it! First the crack was purely esthetical but few months later it become more apparent and started to leak. I wanted to get the exact same model again cause it made such good coffee, but then I realized that all the reviews complain about the same problem, so I guess its time to say goodbye.

3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent coffee when it works
I received this as a gift and had about twenty wonderful cups of moka from this cute little electric machine, but then one day in the third week of ownership, steam went a'flyin outside of the moka maker instead of into the top chamber.I called customer service and was given a run-around, ugh.I was told that without a receipt I could buy the replacement unit for around $40 plus shipping. She said that most of their products have a 30 or 60 day warranty, which surprised me greatly.Since I'd owned the product for less than 30 days, I figured I was still in the warranty time any way one looked at it, but I was wrong. With no receipt, no exchange from DeLonghi.Well, I tried to use the unit after really tightening the top and bottom together and the escaping steam abated. The next week, the shut off valve on the heating unit started making a terrible noise and the unit wouldn't even start. It would be triggered within a few seconds to shut off, so I had nothing at all brewing.Aha, I regained my smartness finally, and took the item to Bed Bath and Beyond, and they were extremely gracious in having another sent to me because the store didn't have it in stock.I hope that when this replacement arrives in a week or two I'll love it again, but I hope this time it's a more long lasting relationship.I'll recommend that you buy this from Amazon because the price is substantially less but be sure to keep your receipt even if you register the warranty! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
For those of us who don't need a $900 espresso maker, the ECMP40 is a good vaule. It's easy to use, comes with an espresso pod adapter for cleaner/easier espresso making and heats up quickly.
1-0 out of 5 stars Seal Fails, Sunbeam Unhelpful
I was given this coffee maker as a gift, and it worked great for about nine months. Then progressively-larger amounts of water started leaking around the top of the basket that holds the coffee. I tried everything: more and less fine grounds, tighter and looser packing of grounds, tighter and looser locking of the basket, completely cleaning the area, etc. Nothing worked.
1-0 out of 5 stars Eww, go elsewhere?
We bought this product originally in a local store. Didn't work out of the box. Bought it online instead. It gave (past tense) about 7 months of very spotty service. Not only did it put out inconsistant temperatures and pressure, but within the first few months, pieces of it started falling apart. The handle on the coffee grounds holder, as well as the cover for the steaming spout, both shattered under minimal strain. Go elsewhere. We've bought $5 thrift store old machines that have served faithfully for years, and expected when spending a goodly amount of money on a 'new' coffee machine to be getting our money's worth. Go visit your thriftstore before you order this particular espresso machine. ... Read more

This compact 1,200-watt machine automatically produces espresso with the push of a button. Easy-to-understand controls put espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes a fingertip away, and the stainless-steel boiler produces two cups of espresso in just seconds. Mine arrived with a piece of the front broken off and scratches all over the front.Makes me wonder if it's a piece of junk, not sure if I should look for a different machine or get a replacement. All I know if I have NO espresso right now!

Editorial Review

Serious espresso drinkers want a serious machine--and this is it. Crafted in Italy of highly polished stainless steel with professional grade components, the XP1 handles restaurant demands as well as the demands of the high-end user. This workhorse can even be left on all day to satisfy a house full of holiday guests. After 10 minutes the 1.3-liter copper boiler is fully heated and raring to go; with no recovery time needed between extractions, multiple cups of espresso can be brewed continuously. Two systems allow milk steaming and espresso extraction simultaneously. Should the water reservoir reach empty, a safety mechanism automatically shuts off the machine. A cup warmer on top keeps cups at the perfect temperature, and the machine is ESE adapted for use with either ground coffee or prepackaged coffee pods. Spouts for single or double cups are included, along with two porta-filters, a single-cup/pod filter basket, a double-cup filter basket, a back-flush blank filter basket, a measuring spoon, a coffee tamper, and an instruction manual. The XP1 measures 10-1/4 by 16-1/2 by 15 inches and should last a lifetime. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T BELIEVE THE REVIEWS
I have to give this machine 1 star even though I haven't ever used it.The reason is that the majority of the reviews seem to be from the same person making up different reviews, but with very common themes.Read the reviews yourself and see...
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the hype
look at the "reviewer" with the multiple glorious postings from Oakbrook, IL. If it were actually a quality machine you wouldn't need to falsify reviews, would you?

5-0 out of 5 stars COMMERCIAL QUALITY WORKHORSE
We were in the market for a true one group commercial espresso machine in the traditional manner and came across the XP1 from Espressione. We called Espressione office before purchasing machine and learned that this machine is made by GRIMAC in Italy one of Europe's largest makers of commercial espresso machines for bars, restuarants, coffee shops, etc. This machine is a true powerhouse. We crank it up in the morning and leave it on all day. It is capable of brewing coffee at the same time as frothing milk for cappuccinos, lattes, etc. The water reservoir is huge and has zero recovery time from making one coffee after another. 5-0 out of 5 stars A happy hubby
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. It has probably been the best gift I ever thought of.Because the preparation of an espresso is something of a ritual, we do not use it on a daily basis. We save it for the weekends. It makes perfect coffee every time.As for the post-brewing drips, we place a coffee cup under the spout and mess avoided. We are very happy with this machine and would buy this brand again

5-0 out of 5 stars this will be my downfall
Got mine today! Unpacked, ran some blank runs through to get everything lubed up and hot. Made my first weee cuppas and... they sucked. I musta tamped waay to hard and just got nastyness. Then I read their manual and messed around with how hard I was tamping the grinds and voila! crema without their silly crema disk! If you see me shaking in the streets 5 years from now help a man out and give me enough beans for a double shot...

5-0 out of 5 stars Going on 1 Year - Still a Great Espresso Machine
I bought a Gaggia Carezza expresso machine and Gaggia MDF grinder one year ago now, & I've come to love my morning & lunchtime ritual of making latte's for me and my wife.I do it every day and have had no problems or issues - both machines are still working great.

Editorial Review

It’s easy to offer guests or family members a choice of drip coffee or an espresso drink with this combination coffee/espresso maker. The Caffé Nero has separate controls and water tanks for each function, so you can brew drip coffee and espresso simultaneously. The coffee side has a patented Flavor Savor brewing system that fully saturates grounds and lets them steep for a while to draw out rich coffee flavors. A permanent gold-tone filter keeps even the finest grounds from sneaking through to a coffee cup and eliminates the need for buying paper filters. Using the dial on the top of the coffeemaker, you can adjust the coffee’s strength to personal preference. A separate button lets you choose between brewing 5 cups or less or from 6 to 10 cups and alters the heating element accordingly so smaller pots never taste burnt or overheated. The drip coffee side also has a 24-hour programmable timer that can be set each night to brew first thing in the morning and a "drip interrupt" feature, so you can pour a cup before the full pot is brewed. Coffee remains hot in the 10-cup glass carafe due to the Caffé Nero’s nonstick warming plate.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars there are better ones out there
I thought I did enough research before buying this machine but apparently not enough. I was disappointed in 1. the design ( looks rather cheap) and 2. the performance. The coffee maker didn't stop dripping either water or coffee when you pulled out the pot and for the espresso part you need to REHEAT the unit 30 MINUTES prior to use!!! So much about being flexible about having an espresso! If you really enjoy good coffee you need to invest more, unfortunately.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's as beautiful as it is functional
I am not a coffe drinker myself but I make cofee, espresso and cappacino for my wife. The machine is easy to operate and quite stylish. It's also built to last a life time. I highly recommend this machine.

4-0 out of 5 stars great drip coffee, average espresso
The drip coffee is wonderful, but the espresso is weak.It seems like the pump does not generate enough pressure to make real, full bodied espresso.Overall, a satisfactory purchase. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Romeo vs. D290
My impression of these 2 machines.
5-0 out of 5 stars Espresso Perfecto
My wife and I were in Paris recently for 2.5 weeks and loved the coffee there so much that when we returned we just had to have an espresso machine at home.Researched a variety of espresso makers and decided that an automatic machine was what we wanted. We figured that at some point the novelty of measuring, tamping, cleaning, etc., would grow old and our enthusiasm for making espresso (not drinking it) would diminish, so we agreed that fully automatic was the way to go.Bought the Nespresso Romeo on Amazon last week and have used it many times since then.We absolutely love it, and our friends rave about it, too.Nespresso has more than a dozen different flavors/strengths of coffee in their capsules, which you have to use in this machine.I was a bit concerned about that, but my research indicated that the coffee was of very high quality, and my own tasting over the last few days has confirmed it.Terrific coffee, every bit as good as in Paris coffee bars. And it is just so easy to use and clean.Haven't used the steam element for capuccino or lattes yet, but it appears to be fairly simple to employ.Very good instructions in the provided manual and book, and also on line.I highly recommend this product.

Editorial Review

Combining advanced technology with a classic design, this coffee/espresso machine for making hot drinks at home includes all the benefits of a commercial system. Designed in Italy by Gaggia, one of the most respected names in the espresso industry, the unit uses standard 58 mm filters to provide ample room for brewing rich, full espresso. Its commercial-grade construction includes stainless-steel housing, a high-power 17-1/2-bar pump with a high-voltage boiler for quick warm-up times, and an independent expansion valve. A three-way solenoid valve is also included, providing immediate pressure release from the grouphead once an espresso pull is completed, allowing the portafilter to be removed and the next shot to be prepared instantly. For excellent temperature stability, its portafilters and grouphead are made of heavy-duty marine-grade brass with chrome plating. The machine works with coffee pods and is designed to deliver two cups at once. Other convenient features include a hot-water dispenser for tea, a frothing wand for crema, and a cup warmer. A single- and double-shot stainless-steel filter basket, coffee tamper, and 7-gram measuring scoop are included. Its 72-ounce water reservoir is removable for easy filling or cleaning. To keep the espresso machine clean, simply wipe it down with a damp cloth. The unit measures 14-1/4 by 8 by 9-1/2 inches. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great espresso, poor steaming wand
For the price, I'd give the espresso making part of this machine 5 stars. The portafilter and brew group are substantial and well-made.I've worked at two espresso shops with commercial machines, and the parts on this moderately priced Gaggia are nearly as heavy and substantial as the big multiple-thousands of dollars machines.I've had the machine for 4 days and have been brewing shots with Starbuck$ pods. The toggle switches are easy to use, the reservoir is easy to fill, and the shots are aromatic and full of crema every time. However, the steaming wand takes a star away from this machine. It does not rotate in every direction like the comparably priced Starbucks machine. This makes it hard to remove a cup full of frothed milk from under the wand without spilling. Also, the plastic frother contraption is silly. Actual frothing capability is pretty good, though the plain metal tips on the commercial machines produced finer microfroth, and were more fine-tuned to the trained barista's hand.Overall, it's a good-looking machine, and I'm satisfied with it for my main purposes - iced lattes and americanos, and straight double shots, all of which do not require use of the steaming attachment. This is a good entry-level machine that will brew you good shots, and look good on your countertop. However, I'm expecting to outgrow it and move up to an Isomac with more refined steaming capability within a few years.

2-0 out of 5 stars overwhelming reputation, underwhelming performance
The machine produces an extremely wonderful cup of espresso. It's main and constantly irritating flaw is this turbo frother sleeve. It has too many pieces to clean, and worst of all, the sleeve does not remain securely attached to the the metal steam pipe.Several times I've had the frother explode off the machine in a cloud burst of half-steamed milk that sprayed all over the kitchen.I've had various other problems with this complicated design. In fact, the company provides a detailed, additional page of instructions on how to troubleshoot with the frother sleeve, which suggests to me that the company is already aware that the design is flawed.I have to ask the question: why not produce a simple, metal frother that doesn't break and require such special care?
5-0 out of 5 stars Gaggia Classic Brushed Stainless is worth every penny!
I just bought a Gaggia Classic after extensively reading online about which machines were the best pick (thanks to N. Caine for his excellent reviews and suggestions - you made the choice a lot easier). After much research, I chose the Gaggia Classic and I'm glad that I did. This machine is very impressive:sturdy housing, 3 way solenoid valve and crema laden expresso that's liquid gold. It's easy to use and clean up is also a breeze.Although I looked at the Gaggia Carezza as a possible candidate, I was turned off by the plastic housing and the lack of the solenoid valve. The Gaggia Classic is worth the extra money and is a pleasure to use.I highly recommend this machine for anyone who is looking to upgrade from otherwise disappointing machines such as Krups or Delonghi.Look no further: the Gaggia doesn't disappoint! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This machine sucks
We had an older model of this machine at our office and it lasted for a couple of years. Last month we replaced it with this one and it's already going out.Dont waste your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Makes great coffee, cappucino and espresso, but has some quirks
I've been enjoying my Saeco Magic Comfort Plus machine for several days now.The machine works as advertised, but it does have some quirks.Fortunately none are very serious.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great convenience and good but not perfect espresso
We finally took the plunge and bought yet another complicated piece of machinery to share our house with. Why a superautomatica?Making espresso requires a lot of fiddling---even with a simple Italian-style moka machine (if you call that espresso). When one, like us, is constantly running around with a long list of high-priority tasks in mind, the desire to eliminate any avoidable fiddling is strong and legitimate.
