4-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
This is the least priced combo coffee/espresso maker on Amazon. It works and does its job, but to a certain extent. You really do get what you pay for. So for the price, I would say it meets expectations. If you're not picky and your priority is cost, then you could say that this could do. But if you really want quality, then go for another one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the price
I have been using the Mr. Coffee Espresso machine and coffeemaker for just over a month now and have had absolutely no problems with it. My past experience with Mr. Coffee has been that the plastic handle tends to break or come loose after a while. This particular design seems to be slightly better, though time will tell...
1-0 out of 5 stars Not all that great.
We were excited to have an espresso maker in the house. I wish we had now bought two seperate units. This machine has broken, and we've had it just over a year. We haven't been able to use the steamer spout for a long time. It went out quickly after we bought the unit. The spillage is considerable if you quickly pour a cup of coffee. Buy two seperate units. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!!
I drink a lot of Cafe Americano. I got one of these years ago from my wife for my birthday. I honestly can't tell any difference in mine and the ones from Starbucks. I can also make Cafe Mocha that tastes identicalby using Ghirardelli sweet ground chocolate and some really good dark-roasted coffee. If you insist on spending $200 or more go ahead but you're wasting your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars For this price....of course!
I did not buy it from Amazon, but from Target. I drink coffee about 3-4 times a week and have had this coffee maker for about a year. It has been pretty consistent and makes good coffee. Totally worth the money!

I was making espresso this morning when this machine exploded, sending coffee, steam, and broken glass all over my kitchen. It's a wonder I was not badly injured.I do not recommend this espresso maker! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Made in Italy, this 1,250-watt machine eliminates the fuss of creating espresso and espresso drinks at home by automating the entire process. With the push of a button, the machine grinds coffee beans without burning them, tamps the ground coffee into the brew group, brews a cup of espresso, and then dumps the spent grounds into a container--all in about 30 seconds. For creating a cappuccino or latte, there's a hot water/steam wand with a milk-frothing attachment. (With this model, there's a 35-second delay from brewing to steaming, and 15 seconds from steaming to brewing.) A button selects one or two cups, and a knob adjusts cup size up to 10 ounces. For safety, the machine shuts off if the grinder runs out of beans or the water tank is empty (control-panel lights indicate specific problems).Read more

  • Grinds, doses, tamps, brews, and dispenses quality coffee; prepares 1 to 2 cups at the same time
  • Powerful steam wand and exclusive Pannarello frothing device
  • Opti-Dose adjustable coffee grinder and dispensing unit; automatic coffee grounds disposal
  • Includes easy-to-clean, removable brew group and 57-ounce water tank; 12.35-ounce bean hopper

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT COFFEE/GREAT PRICE
I have had this machine since May 2002, My husband and I LOVE it.We used it all the time until it started leaking. We brought it to the service center for repair (in NJ) and after 3 months it was finally fixed..The cost to repair it was 1/2 of what we origionally paid for it.My suggestion would be that after several years use...buy another and dont repair it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product
Makes perfect coffee everytime. Cleanup is a less work
5-0 out of 5 stars Its like being in Paris
I got this machine 2 years ago as a gift and to this day its been the best gift I have ever received.I really got hooked on drinking grand caf while spending ten days in Paris.I was so used to watered down Mr. Coffee style coffee every morning and when I came back to the US, I couldn't stand it, I needed the French grand caf.

3-0 out of 5 stars Problems with dial otherwise great
Love this item. It is small and compact, easy to use and clean and makes great espresso. The only complaint I have is that the dial on mine started to act up.It will not turn off, which I guess is better than not turning on.So I have to unplug it to turn it off. When I turn the dial I actually do not even hear it click. Not sure what the issue is.Other than that, it is perfect! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!
It took a little 'tweaking' before I fully mastered the art of espresso making. I tried to use the Perfect Crema rubber disc that came with the machine, but after inserting the disc into the portafilter, it adds so much thickness that the basket doesn't fit on top of it and therefore cannot be locked onto the brewing head. I called up customer service, they picked up the phone immediately and told me to throw it away. There were defects from manufacturer and they don't recommend anyone using the disc. Stick to the 'Golden Rules' that came with your instruciton booklet. And I have been making delicious capuccinos! The auto frother is simply magical. And it is very easy to clean. The machine is solidly constructed with metal. Although the dripping tray is made of cheap plastic. But no big deal, as long as the rest of the machine is well made. This is an excellent buy. Go for it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Much Better than the Breville ESP8XL it Replaced
This is a solid coffee machine. It makes great froth. Unlike a previous reviwer, I had no problems with the froth attachment. The trick is to make sure it is assembled correctly and to froth correctly. To make froth, keep the Turbo frother up close to the surface. You will actually see the frother suck in the milk and hear a hissing. To heat up the milk without making much froth, make sure the frother is below the surface so that you are no longer making froth but heating the milk instead. The machine has quality parts, a big water tank, a powerful pump, separate controls for steaming and making coffee, and a cup warmer (which you probably don't need because there are more efficient ways to hear the cups). It is easy to clean. I would only recommend getting a decent coffee grinder, obviosuly one that allows you to adjust how fine you grind the beans.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't expect it anytime soon, although it's an excellent espresso machine
Mine's been on order with Amazon for several months and I just got yet another notice that shipping is delayed by another month. Therefore, if you're willing to wait half a year for one, don't hesitate to order one. Well, don't hesitate too much, at least. ;)

Editorial Review

Savor a burst of true Italian flavor at home with this DeLonghi espresso and cappuccino maker. With a durable stainless-steel boiler, two thermostats (for water and steam), 35-ounce water reservoir (which removes for easy filling and cleaning), and two nozzles, this self-priming pump machine brews up single or double shots of espresso in just minutes. As for taste, the machine’s ‘sempre crema’ filter holder produces a perfect, caramel-colored crema, the essence of great espresso. Before brewing, a built-in tamper levels and presses the grounds before use; some practice is usually required to tamp at just the right pressure. After brewing, a lever on the filter holder flips up to hold the metal basket in place in order to knock out the used grounds. Three switches make the entire brewing process intuitive: on/off, espresso/water delivery, and steam: the machine preheats cups and filter holder with hot water and also froths milk for cappuccino using a swivel steamer and adjustable steam control knob. An "OK" light illuminates when the machine is fully heated and ready to go. A drip tray under the nozzles holds two espresso shot glasses or cups (not included), and removes for dishwasher cleaning. The machine measures 11-1/2 by 8-1/2 by 7-1/4 inches, and is covered by a one-year warranty against defects. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This machine is a very good investment!
I brought this machine 3 years ago. I have very good service with this machine. I make two (double)espressos some times more if I have friends over ... I am still in love with this machine and may be you should trust my opinion ... and each cup is the same excellent (I am using regular Melita espresso brand or Lavazza "Espresso").
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this machine!
I was taken in by the low price, but that was a mistake. The machine arrived with a broken water tank -- it's made of a flimsy, cheap plastic, which was cracked when I took it out of the box, and leaked water when I filled it.I'm sending it back for a refund -- the cheaper Hamilton Beach espresso maker I have now had a better-quality, sturdier water tank than this does.Don't buy this!

1-0 out of 5 stars DeLonghi Service and Quality Stinks
I bought a machine similar to this one late last year - it broke after about 30 cups. The 'tap' for the steam jammed.I'm still waiting for the repaired machine to be returned after 3 months - yes months, not weeks.According to DeLonghi service it will be another month before it's repaired.I have no faith this will happen, nor that it will work for any length of time after I receive it.Their service people, while reasonably pleasant, don't help - they know virtually nothing and seem reluctant to go beyond just answering your questions. If you're smart, you'll go buy a coffee machine from someone else. ... Both a regular coffeemaker and espresso machine, this1,500-watt appliance has separate water tanks for simultaneouslybrewing drip coffee and espresso. The espresso machine side has abuilt-in frothing system with a milk tank for creating cappuccinos andlattés in their cups. Separate knobs select the strength of bothregular coffee and espresso. Making espresso follows tradition: tampcoffee into a filter basket inside a filter holder, twist the filterholder onto the machine, pour water into the machine's boiler, andpress a button. Depending on the amount of water added, up to four2-ounce cups then flow into an 8-ounce glass carafe. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Good coffee until a piece broke...
I've had my machine for 7 months (it was the wedding gift I was most thrilled to receive).Unfortunately, it has given me quite a bit of trouble already. My lattes are barely lukewarm, so I have to microwave them every time. The clock light appears only after I unplug and re-plug in the machine. It is a chore to clean the milk container.Coffee grounds come through the expresso part, forcing me to use a small filter. All this I could handle, but then yesterday the little red piece in the milk container broke, leading to a mini-milk explosion during frothing. Now I'm not sure what to do.What will I ever tell my gracious mother-in-law who gave me this lovely gift?If I could go back, I would register for a different machine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth The Price!!!
Stay away from this one! This is the second model I own since the first one, not even a year old, started leaking all over the place as well as turn on when you weren't even making coffee which is a fire hazard in itself.I thought, okay, maybe I got a lemon. I went through hoops with the company to get another one. Well, I wish I had never bought it in the first place. Although this one does not leak, it still turns on by itself. I have to keep it unplugged so it doesn't start a fire. Definitely not worth the money I spent and will not buy DeLonghi again!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee Maker

Editorial Review

If you're an espresso, cappuccino, and/or latte fancier with an aversion to messiness and a devotion to uncomplicated appliances, this is the espresso machine for you. Instead of requiring an operator to measure out and carefully tamp down ground coffee and then dispose of wet grounds, it uses capsules filled with exactly the amount of ground coffee needed for one cup of espresso (use two capsules for a larger cappuccino or latte). After use, simply discard the capsule, which won't spill grounds on the counter. Nespresso sends along 20 capsules of two varieties of coffee with the machine, and they offer additional capsules in nine varieties of coffee, including two decaffeinated, for sale on their Web site or by toll-free telephone order.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine
I've had this machine for 3 weeks and am very pleased.I have not stepped foot in Starbucks since it arrived!Very easy to use and the selection of coffee sent with the machine was an added bonus (along with 2 cups and saucers). After trying all the different pods, I placed a coffee order from Nespresso and my order arrived in two days - very quick - especially since I am in California and Nespresso ships from Florida.
4-0 out of 5 stars Broke my 3-year hiatus from caffeine....
....when a friend offered me a cup of Nespresso from her machine.I immediately went online and bought myself one despite doctor's advice. It has excellent flavour and aroma - and the different blends offer a good variety for different moods and tastes. It is easy to operate, and the capsules are convenient to purchase. My only gripe is: I still cannot get it to froth properly for a good cappuccino - but I highly recommend this for coffee enthusiasts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine for Espresso ONLY...
This is a great machine for espresso. I would recommend it time and time again. It's consistent and convenient. There are a variety of pods so you can get specific levels of strength for your taste. For example, I like dark and full-body coffees while my wife likes lighter coffees. Now, we can have coffee together without a large production. It's just a matter of using a different pod for my/her cup.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than Starbuck's
This machine is really just as advertised - one touch capuccino and espresso with enormous customization. You can adjust the coffee strength independent of the volume (ristretto to lungo). The milk frother works wonderfully with good tight foam, and is mixed with the coffee in the cup in perfect ratio. It produces capuccino just as good as Starbucks (assuming you use Starbucks beans), and more consistent (sometimes, depending on the barista, the capuccino can be weaker or stronger based on the amount of milk added).
5-0 out of 5 stars Robust for even a small company
This machine has now been going strong in the breakroom of my 100 person company for more than 9 months. Ever since we got the machine, people have drastically reduced making their trips to nearby Starbucks. Everybody loves the machine because of its simplicity and ease of use. Lot of people just use the frothed milk only feature as well. The cleaning is simple as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars We love this machine!
We purchased the DeLonghi EAM3500 Magnifica for our second home and we enjoy the taste of the coffee, latte, etc so much we're ordering another for our main residence. So simple to use - very easy to keep clean. The machine grinds the coffee just before brewing - wonderful. We've also been pleased with the milk attachment for latte and cappuccino - no more standing at the machine frothing milk.

Editorial Review

By eliminating the usual fuss and mess, this 1,200-watt machine makes it easy to brew espresso and make cappuccinos and lattes at home or in the office. It's semiautomatic because all that's required is to fill the water tank, place ground coffee into a receptacle, and pull a lever. Within seconds coffee flows from the double spout, which adjusts for different cup heights, into one or two cups. No tamping is required because the machine tamps the coffee precisely and automatically. Nor is it necessary to clean used coffee grounds out of a messy filter holder, because there is no filter holder, and the machine automatically discards grounds into a waste tray. The tray also catches overflows, and a light shows when it needs emptying.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised
My wife and I have had our Ultima for about 6 months. We're very pleased. It worked fine with my original blade grinder and very well with a burr grinder (I use the Capresso 560.01 which works well too). We get consistent, excellent results on our daily cappuccino and crema coffee (our drinks of choice).
5-0 out of 5 stars Rocks!
Makes excellent espresso/crema.So much cleaner and easier to use than traditional espresso machines and I do not need the additional automatic features of the more expensive Jura machines. My only complaint is that it isn't a sleek/attractive appliance. But the espresso doesn't disappoint and I am totally pleased with the machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Capresso treated me right
I had a C1000 that had a recall - they offered to fix it or sell me the E8 for half price.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not a reliable machine
We've had this for about one month, used it twice a day (two espresso drinkers in the house) and it's now starting to fail once a day. The machine will fail for a couple of attempts, ask you to open and close the tap, and evenutally work correctly. The espresso tastes great, but it's not worth the headache of using up beans on failed attempts. For this much money, you'd think they would have worked out the kinks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Earlier reviewer didn't know how easy it is to fix....
The reviewer from '04 that was having problems didn't know about a super easy fix...all he had to do was call the 800 number and they'd walk him thru the relatively simple, 1 minute cleaning procedure. My S8 machine was doing the exact same thing, and they halped me out without any problems. Capresso has been great. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Both a regular coffeemaker and espresso machine, this 1,500-watt appliance has separate water tanks for simultaneously brewing drip coffee and espresso. The espresso machine side has a milk frother for creating cappuccinos and lattes. Separate knobs select the strength of both regular coffee and espresso. Making espresso follows tradition: tamp coffee into a filter basket inside a filter holder, twist the filter holder onto the machine, pour water into the machine's boiler, and press a button. Depending on the amount of water, up to four 2-ounce cups then flow into an 8-ounce glass carafe.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars It Leaks!
I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend and he loved it, though I think he had some trouble with the frother a few times. But after two years, it started leaking every time it was used -- coffee-colored water all over the counter. Looking at other reviewers' experiences with the warranty process, I think I'll just skip it and buy a new one. Probably better not to buy a coffee/espresso combo unit again, and definitely not a DeLonghi.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings
I agree with some of the other reviews that have been submitted. This machine is an affordable product that yields a decent cappuccino and coffee, not the best I've had but pretty good considering the price.I have also had problems with descaling issues and have had the machine repaired once already. When I called DeLonghi about the second breakdown, they informed me that it would not be fixed under warranty for 2 reasons: first, they questioned whether I had followed the maintenance guidelines (i.e. they didn't believe me), and second they said that since the warranty period had expired (it had been 13 months only since I purchased) they could do nothing about it.I contered with the argument that this was the second repair, and although the machine was not an elite product, I felt that the $150 I had paid (at the time) was too much for something to break the month after warranty was over. So, I took it apart myself and "fixed" it.It worked horribly for a while yet, but I had switched to using my bottled water instead of tap water, and I found that this eliminated my scaling issues, and now, incredibly, the problem is gone!Who knew. Still too much work for something this expensive.Next time I will save up and buy a better product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worked great -- for a while
My machine is about a year and a half old and it has stopped brewing for the second time and it is not responding to the descaling they recommend. There is no service center in my state so by the time I mail it outstate it will be cheaper to buy another coffee maker -- and friends, it won't be this one. ... Editorial Review

Just by looking, it's not hard to believe this automatic espresso machine won The Chicago Athenaeum's prestigious Good Design 2003 award. But, in addition to the sophisticated modern styling, the machine’s many innovative features make it easy to brew great-tasting espresso, cappuccino, and latte drinks. To take the guesswork out of making the perfect cup, the Granos offers a fully programmable control panel. Set it to accommodate individual preferences, or choose a single or double espresso by simply pushing a button. There's also the option of using either regular ground coffee or the popular pre-packed espresso pods. The Bodum Granos' ThermoBlock heating system ensures the correct water temperature for extracting the coffee's full flavor, while its unique water system expels used water rather than letting it flow back into the fresh-water reservoir. A 19-bar pump, dual-wall filter, and a stabilizing baffle in combination ensure a consistent, correct release of pressure. Its filter holder and handle are made of chrome-plated brass, and all internal and external components are made from metal and high-quality electrical parts. Additional features include a cup warmer, a steam wand for making cappuccino and latte drinks, and an adapter for attaching bottled water directly to the machine. A tamper and single, double, and pod shot filters are included. This espresso machine carries a two-year limited warranty. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So far so good!
Have had the Granos for about 1 month.Great espresso, great latte and great design.I hope all the leak issues I read below have been solved, but only time will tell.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Customer Service
I received my Granos as a birthday present two years ago.As had already been reported here, the machine is great--when it works.I thought I was the only one who had leak problems but most everyone who wrote a review here reported the same problem. Leak from the bottom and leak from the water container.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Machine Is Awsome !
My old machine was a Starbucks Barista. Had for 3 Years before steam nozzle broke. Worked fine for a home machine, or so I thought! Enter GAGGIA. I ordered this machine (the espresso) on tuesday. It arrived on thursday, well packaged and double boxed. First thing I noticed was the quality of the portafilter. About twice as heavy as old one. Filled up with 64OZ. of water, primed the pump, and was ready to go in about 5 minutes. First shot. Heavy reddish brown creama!!! Tasted amazing first shot out of machine. Next, set to steam, took about 30 seconds to reach temp and zoom, more than enough to steam milk for 2 lattes. Hotter, faster, better frothing, cafe quality.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best value on the market.
OK - the negative reviews on this are pretty out there; they are either complaining about non-existant issues (um, 1 star from someone who didn't even BUY it?Becuase it supposedly doesn't come in 110?That's wacky), or have the wrong expectations of what this machine will do.The bottom line on this espresso maker is that it has the guts of their more expensive models (minus the 3 way solenoid, which has NO effect on how espresso is made) and IF you know what you are doing can make espresso as well as pretty much any model out there.
1-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine, But...
A friend had one of these, and it was great, but it was in Germany.I tried to get one of my own now that I'm back in America.Nowhere on the web site is it stated that they only sell this model in 230-240 volts.Customer service at Amazon.com said that there is not a 110 volt version available.Since I can't use it, I had to send it back. ...
