Preliminary review after initial use
I just brought this home today and have made the first pot o' joe with it. Prior to this, I've been using a Krups Moka Brew which I was really tired of having to deal with and was continually dissatisfied with the coffee it made. After one use of this Braun, my impressions are as follows: first cup quite good & flavorful using some gourmet beans, and the temperature pretty hot! The second cup, for some reason, seemed to lose a bit of the flavor of the first cup. Too soon to say if this will be the norm - if it is, I'll probably take this back to the store. But for now, I'll keep it for a day or two, experiment with more coffee, slightly different grind, etc. and see what happens. I've been drinking coffee and trying different coffemakers for many years so I'm quite finicky about my coffeemaker & the cup it produces. A follow-up review will be posted once I decide if this is a keeper or not, but I do know it makes better coffee than the Krups Moka Brew and it's heck of a lot user-friendlier.

Bad Unit
Wish I had heeded the advice of most of the reviewers before I purchased this. I went ahead and purchased this because it was replacing a Braun coffee maker that we had had for 10 - 15 years.After it got the new plastic taste out of it, it made good coffee. Even without the Brita Filter.Just like all the reviewers indicated, the carafe leaked and spilled badly unless you poured very slowly and carefully.Unfortunately, it has quit working after only 2 1/2 months.The seller, Etronics, is declining to do anything about it saying it is now outside of their 30 return period.That will be the last thing I buy through them.Like uhh, since they sell Braun,one would think they would have some recourse through Braun and try to help their customers.So, here I am between the proverbial rock and a hard place,try to find a Braun warranty center and wait for it to get repaired or replaced, or just bite the bullet an go buy another. (want to bet it won't be a Braun?) Additionally, what do we do for coffee in the mean time?Such are the hazards of purchasing an electric appliance on the internet.

Disappointment
I've had two of these now, and they both had one serious flaw: the trumpeted "brew and pause" feature DOES NOT WORK.Pull the carafe out during brewing and treat yourself to a steaming hot waterfall of coffee that would almost be comical if it weren't such a relentless pain in the neck to clean up.

It Leaks!
I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend and he loved it, though I think he had some trouble with the frother a few times. But after two years, it started leaking every time it was used -- coffee-colored water all over the counter. Looking at other reviewers' experiences with the warranty process, I think I'll just skip it and buy a new one. Probably better not to buy a coffee/espresso combo unit again, and definitely not a DeLonghi.

Mixed feelings
I agree with some of the other reviews that have been submitted.This machine is an affordable product that yields a decent cappuccino and coffee, not the best I've had but pretty good considering the price.I have also had problems with descaling issues and have had the machine repaired once already.When I called DeLonghi about the second breakdown, they informed me that it would not be fixed under warranty for 2 reasons: first, they questioned whether I had followed the maintenance guidelines (i.e. they didn't believe me), and second they said that since the warranty period had expired (it had been 13 months only since I purchased) they could do nothing about it.I contered with the argument that this was the second repair, and although the machine was not an elite product, I felt that the $150 I had paid (at the time) was too much for something to break the month after warranty was over.So, I took it apart myself and "fixed" it.It worked horribly for a while yet, but I had switched to using my bottled water instead of tap water, and I found that this eliminated my scaling issues, and now, incredibly, the problem is gone!Who knew. Still too much work for something this expensive.Next time I will save up and buy a better product.

Worked great -- for a while
My machine is about a year and a half old and it has stopped brewing for the second time and it is not responding to the descaling they recommend.There is no service center in my state so by the time I mail it outstate it will be cheaper to buy another coffee maker -- and friends, it won't be this one. ... Great coffee maker
I can readily reccommend the Krups Coffee maker.This my second in 10 years.It is easy to fill with water, the controls are straightforward, it does not leak water and is just a fine coffee maker.

Krups Catastrophe
I thought this would be a top of the line product.It is poorly made.The filter holder broke the first week where the spring attaches at the top.The top gets hot and causes it not to fit properly making it virtually impossible to repair.I had to use tape across the top to hold it down so that it would keep the filter holder in place.I can't tell you how many times it would fall out, spilling coffee grounds everywhere!I have tried to contact Krups, but cannot get through to their website.I threw it away yesterday and bought another Mr. Coffee!

Disaster
I too replaced a wonderful Krups 12 cup coffee maker we had for many years after its recent death from old age.So we bought a FRM2 and it proceeded to leak all over the counter. We figured that the leak had to be a unique problem (We should have heeded an earlier review) and traded for another new one.This one leaked just as badly and for a bonus, the program wouldn't set properly.I have now purchased a Cuisinart DCC-1000 at a comparabele price.It is in my opinion a much sturdier machine ... Not for everyone
Well I had really high hopes when I got this for Christmas... and even before I tried it for the first time I read through all of these ratings and followed what many were saying are the 'tricks'. I have had it now for over half a year and tried to use it probably about 10 times and have yet to get a pot to brew correctly. Every single time to filter clogs, not allowing but only 1/4 or so of the coffee to come back down. I have set my coffee grinder to max coarse all these times, and no I dont store my beans in freezer or refigerator. I make sure the rubber seal is seated good and I have also tried overfilling the lower carafe with water per suggestion here. I have also put it back on the heat momentarily to try to unclog it, but it still will only drain down maybe an inch at most after removing.
Where do I start...
I purchased this unit a few weeks ago, and it's been trouble ever since.I think I managed to get one decent cup of coffee out of it, but not as good as my old fashioned percolator.
Great Tasting Coffee!
Because this coffeemaker was unavailable for a while I was waiting for it with some anticipation. My patience was well rewarded with some fine tasting cups of coffee!

Excellent single servecoffeemaker
After reading several reviews on other single serve coffeemakers I was discouraged. I was thinking there no good single serve coffeemakers out there. But I found one with my Procter Silex!
Why did I try Proctor-Silex again??
After me first coffeemaker began leaking- and it was a realtively new proctor-silex 12 cup maker- I decided to try one of these "cute" single serve ones.Why, oh why did I purchase this brand??First, it does take around 3-4 minutes to brew a single cup of coffee or tea.This seems like a longer time than most.And now, after 2 or 3 frustrating weeks, it's leaking just like the old one did.Not user error, as the water comes from underneath the coffeemaker.Also, the coffee is not coming out as hot either, which causes me to wonder if it's the heating element...Even though this one can use loose grounds or pods, it is not worth the frustration!Try a different brand.My sister-in-law has really enjoyed her Sensao!

Does the job well.
This is pretty nice if you want to just make small, individual servings of coffee (or just hot water). It makes a little less than 1 pint of coffee (which is actually about 2 cups of coffee). The coffee just drips right into the mug (there is no connection between the drip mechanism and the catch vessel).Since there is no hot plate, you could even put a different mug (as long as it's big enough) to catch the coffee. The coffee tastes quite good and I plan on using this form now on to prevent me from stopping for coffee on the way to work. It can also be used to brew hot water for other hot beverages such as tea, hot chocolate, instant oatmeal or soups. So, for $20, not too bad.

Great little coffee maker!
I've had various small coffee makers in the past such as the Mr. Coffee 4 cup, etc.I was skeptical because these coffee makers never seem to get the water hot enough for brewing and rely on a hot plate to heat (and burn) the coffee.This is not the case with the Black and Decker Brew and Go.It makes a large, hot cup of coffee in about 2 minutes.There is no hot plate, so no burnt coffee.It has a permanent filter so you don't have to find the small paper type filters for this unit.This machine brews a fantastic cup of coffee. Doesn't fit all cone style coffee makers
We bought this filter today because the package said it would fit every #4 cone style coffee maker on the market.Well, it doesn't.We own a Kitchenaid, and it didn't fit ours.I'm sure this would be a great filter if we had the right kind of machine.

Obnoxious coffeemaker makes good coffee
While I would never complain about the taste of the coffee (one way or the other it is delicious), the set up stinks. The carafe drips every time I pour it, even when I pour it slowly and it makes a huge mess when I pour the water in to make coffee. and if I want slightly bolder coffee and use a 1/2 teaspoon more coffee grounds, it makes a huge mess! The place where you put the grounds is too small. And lately, just to make this coffee pot a bigger pain, I have been finding huge coffee drips, not water, but coffee, under, around, behind, etc. the coffee pot almost every day! I have only had this pot for 2 months and I am ready for new one!

Great coffee for the price
We love this coffee maker. We are on our 2nd one because we broke the carafe on the 1st. You can order a replacement carafe, but by the time you pay shipping & handling it is just about 1/2 the cost of the original coffee maker. (By the way, when I contacted Hamilton Beach customer service via E-mail they responded very quickly) The carafe can drip, but just set it on the edge of the cup & the problem is solved. It makes really good coffee! We just use Maxwell House French blend coffee, but always get compliments about our coffee. We used to have a Krupps that we loved & this flavor plus brewed coffee tastes as good or better.

Overflows Consistently
I bought this coffee maker to match my KitchenAid blender and coffee gridner. The coffee maker is attractive but works terribly. If you make more than 1 or 2 cups it overflows hot coffee onto the counter top. There is almost always grounds in the coffee too. When I called KitchenAid customer service they said they made a revision to fix the problems and sent me another one. It has the same problems. This is NOT user error I have tried different coffees, grinds, and positioning the carafe differently. This coffee maker is just a distrastrous design mistake. Finally I got KitchenAid to buy the coffee maker back and got a Cuisinart one. It works perfectly, costs less, and has more features. I would recommend Cuisinart and highly recommend that you do not buy this shoddy coffee maker - you will regret it.

BEST coffee maker I have ever owned
I'm glad I didn't listen to the reviews here!I figured how hard is it to brew a pot of coffee?Apparently very difficult for many people!I pour a bottle of spring water into the back of the thing add my Starbucks or Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf coffee and viola.Seems to me many of the problems experienced are all operator error so don't blame the manufacturer. It's a very stylish design and I hope they come out with even more cool colors like orange and apple green and bright yellow.I bought the red one and it looks great in my kitchen.

Best coffee maker I've ever owned
I'm glad I bought it before I read these reviews - mine has NO problems with spills, no grounds in the coffee, no error messages (if you see an error message, I suggest you exchange it for another of the same model - it's probably a quality control issue). It definitely gets 5 stars - just read the instructions, don't use both filters at once, and watch where you pour the water. What I like: 1. The water filter really works - it makes a superb tasting cup of coffee - the difference is noticeable. 2. The coffee is really HOT and stays hot, unlike the Black & Decker I had with the insulated carafe (kept it warm for hours but hot for only a few minutes). 3. The 1-4 cup brew option takes the guesswork out of brewing a partial pot. 4. The split lid! A real advantage since all my counter space has standard height overhead cabinets. Not only can I open the top while it's under the cabinet, I can remove and replace the basket and even pour the water in, although I can't use the carafe for this - I use a 2-quart juice jar on which I've drawn a line to mark the correct water level (much easier than moving the whole thing around every time I use it). 4. Horrible plastic taste even after cleaning several times
Most of the times, we use a coffeemaker to heat water or make tea instead of coffee. I didn't expect the quality is so bad. Before I used it, I boiled about 3 cups of water four times. But the water still had horrible plastic smell and taste.

The only complaint I have is when you pour the water in or pour a cup of coffee. The pour spout is too small and you have to pour slowly!! Sometimes that doesn't even work and I end up with paper towels moping up the counter top. I have bought this brand for years because it last longer than any coffee maker I have ever bought!!! Not bad for the low price
I really wanted one of the more sophisticated and expensive single cup brewers but his little number caught my eye and the price, paid $20, was very attractive.You get what you pay for and this Proctor-Silex single serve unit does o.k.Some of the 'pods' I have tried are not strong enought for my caffine habit.Folgers dark roast works best so far, Senso pods are not very tastey.I also learned not to exceed six ounces of water with a pod.With the little brew basket you can load in a couple tablespoons and make a bigger, more powerful cup of joe.Works pretty well, about five minutes for a fresh cup.It tends to spit and drip a bit, so keep a paper towel near.For now (two weeks of use) it is satisfactory.Not sure how long it will hold up, looks sort of fragile.Try one, you don't have too much to loose.Nice looking unit but black does not match the rest of kitchen gear.

This is a great little coffee maker. I was extremely impressed with this item. It works great and is a great value. I keep it in my office and I love it. It is easy to use, easy to clean and works like a machine that costs twice the price. I like the options of using either the pods or regular coffee grounds. I haven't had any problems with this product.

Simple coffee done right
I thought about pods and other single serve coffee makers, but when I stopped to think about why I was getting a new coffee maker it came down to two facts - my wife and I always broke the glass pot when washing it out and I wanted a coffee maker that could handle making great coffee by the cup or by the pot.
COFFEE BY THE CUP WITHOUT PODS A MASTERPIECE!
IF you think you need pods for coffee by the cup surprise you no longer need to be a slave to a selection of average coffee pods with proprietary interests that do not work universally on all machines. I am tired of pods that work on one machine but not another and none tasting fresh or full bodied.
