Editorial Review

When the aroma of freshly brewed coffee--from freshly ground beans--wafts into your bedroom in the morning, you won't need your alarm clock. Preset this coffeemaker for your desired wake-up time, add coffee beans to the grinder, and in the morning the beans are ground to a medium grind and hot coffee awaits in the 10-cup stainless steel, double-wall insulated thermal carafe. You can also program the machine to start brewing at the end of a dinner party to avoid having to get up from the table, or to have hot coffee waiting after a brisk winter walk. When making fewer than five cups of coffee, use the 1-to-4-cups setting to improve extraction and heat; coffeemakers without this setting often lack the time to heat up properly, and coffee comes out cooler. A disposable charcoal filter removes chlorine and odors from tap water, improving coffee flavor, and should be changed every few months. Other features include a gold-tone commercial-style filter (or use No. 4 basket-style paper filters); capacity to use preground coffee instead of beans; 30-second Brew Pause, which allows a cup be poured before brewing is complete; and an audible tone to indicate the pot is ready. The grinder removes for easy cleaning, and all removable parts can be washed safely in the upper rack of a dishwasher. The Cuisinart Grind and Brew measures 15 by 8 by 7-1/2 inches, and comes with a three-year warranty. Read more

Features

  • Grinder removes for easy clean-up; brew-pause for mid-brew pour
  • Measures 15 by 8 by 7-1/2 inches, 3-year warranty

2-0 out of 5 stars Worthless!!
Worst coffee maker I have ever owned. Can't measure water in pot.Have to press buttons for every pot up to 4 cups and another button if don't want to use grind and brew. But worst part is that I have had trouble with it since the get go.It is supposed to be factory reconditioned but after 3 months has a mind of its' own.I got mine from Smart Bargains who told me I had no recourse other than to contact Cuisinart.Guess I learned not to buy reconditioned or from Smart Bargains!

3-0 out of 5 stars Cuisinart DGB-600BC: Cleaning is a drawback
Regarding the Cuisinart DGB-600BC Grind and Brew -- great idea at first, but a troublesome item to keep clean. It is a lot simpler to merely use the common separate coffee grinder and a more conventional coffee pots because what you gain from the convenience of "grind and brew" you loose in cleaning out all the finely ground coffee that seems to be able to collect in the oddest places. I am an engineer, age 82, and it seems to me that a little research on the upkeep required to clean out all the places where the fine coffee grounds collect should have resulted in a product that is less frustrating. The fact that the grinder part and the coffee basket come out for "easy" cleaning sounds okay but wait until you find all the corners where it takes a brush (provided) to rake loose the sticky grounds that running water will not take away. Then, there is the impossible problem of cleaning out the accummulation of finely ground coffee grounds from the parts that do not disassemble. Daily maintence of a separate coffee grinder and coffee maker involves much less time to keep clean of stray coffee grounds.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great coffee
This coffeemaker is well worth the money and the time spent on a bit of extra cleanup every day.It makes great, consistent coffee. It keeps it warm for a really long time.Get some Weiman Stainless Steel wipes and keep the outside looking great.Yes, you do have to wash and dry the interior components each day, but I think it's worth it.You can do everything at night before you go to bed, set the timer, and wake up to great coffee. The only issue I have is that it only makes 10 cups.Oh, and the grinder is pretty loud. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised
I had been searching for a coffee maker with a built-in grinder and even went as far as purchasing a Cuisinart for $150.00, which I didn't care for and returned. There aren't that many coffee makers out there with the built-in grinders, so I decided to give the Sanyo a try.I must admit I was pleasantly surprised at how hot the coffee was (compared to the Cuisinart) and how delicious.I was a little bit disappointed in that I thought the grinder automatically ground the coffee and brewed it, but got over that quickly, since everything else was so great.I also would have preferred the coffee maker been in black rather than the dark gray color, but again, it is a minor flaw to me.All in all, for the money, I don't think there is a better coffeemaker out there with the features it has for the low price.Buy it!Patricia Davis in Cave Creek, AZ

1-0 out of 5 stars Orininal one was Great - This is Junk
I am the only coffee drinker in my family and had a Brew N' Go for over 6 years when the mesh filter began to separate from the plastic.Unfortunately, Black and Decker changed the design and I was unable to find a replacement filter from them or anybody.I looked for a replacement single cup coffee maker in several retailers and finally found one on Amazon at a very reasonable price.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing product
I agree with other reviewers - the grounds overflow problem is a BIG problem - they go everywhere! The only thing I've found that helps is (1) be sure the top is tightly closed before brewing, and (2) switch to a heavier grind of coffee for less "float".The permanent filter is only good if you like LOTS of silt in the bottom of your cup.I tried the largest grind available, and still there's plenty of silt.I'm glad to hear others are buying #1 paper filters - I'll try that.Don't bank on this product being something Black & Decker will stand behind - I've talked to them once on the phone, and written online once, and they aren't able to help, nor do they even acknowledge the product shortcomings. They actually seem surprised at its flaws!I wish they'd have told me about the paper filters - that would have solved much of my complaints.B&D has farmed out production and service to another company who simply puts the B&D name on it.My best advice - rule this one out, and try something else. There has to be something better.

4-0 out of 5 stars perfect size & right safety feature
This brew 'n go was the perfect size for my office; small enough to fit on a small table next to my deck & wall. Also, I didn't like having to clean the permanent filter so I started using the #1 size disposable paper filter and it works great. The main reason I bought this brew 'n go was because of the auto shutoff after the coffee is made. I don't have to remember to turn it off which I usually did with other types of coffee makers. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This is one programmable coffeemaker that's actually very easy to program. The touch-pad buttons are intuitive, and the printed directions clear, so there's no excuse for not waking up to the aroma of a freshly brewed pot of java. To prepare for making a pot at any hour, the lid lifts up (hinges in rear), exposing the brew basket: add a flat-bottomed paper filter and the ground coffee of your choice. There's ample pour space for water, the level of which you can view through a convenient window on either side. Simply close the lid and push the On button. Auto/On and the clock buttons set the time for delayed start. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great coffeemaker
I recently bought this from Amazon. It was shipped promptly and I received it in excellent condition, much sooner than I expected. It is so easy to use and makes a great cup of coffee. There is no way it would leak on the counter if you put the pot back on the warmer correctly. It only fits in a certain way. My advice is go ahead and buy it, for the price, you won't find anything better.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works
I got it and it not only looks great it works. That's what we are all looking for any way in a great coffee maker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Coffee on the market!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed but not all bad.
When I purchased this, it had far better reviews. The biggest complaint was that it didnt keep the coffee hot. However, Ive found that the coffee will stay hot for hours as long as you dont leave it sitting on the coffeemaker. This is due to the position of the lid when the carafe is in the brewing position. The lid is pressed down slightly when its brewing and releases heat.Removing the carafe after it finishes brewing alleviates this problem.
1-0 out of 5 stars This is the worst coffeemaker I ever owned even though it's the most expensive I've ever owned.
I had great hopes for it.First, the filter basket arrived with a broken piece due to poor West Bend packaging so I had to go through the hassle of returning the entire coffeemaker.Once I started using it to make coffee, it started to periodically run over - usually because the coffee shoots somewhat sideways out of the cone and doesn't go into the pot but rather out over its side.I have tried every imaginable thing in terms of finer and coarser grind of the coffee, etc. Finally put a cookie sheet under the entire coffeemaker so at least it doesn't run down the front of the counter and onto the floor.Forget using the timer feature - who would want that mess developing before you woke up in the morning?I am normally an easy to please person who has reasonable expectations for products, but this is a dud.I suspect the favorable reviews of having been entered by West Bend employees.

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't stay hot!
I wanted a thermal carafe pot so I could brew coffee once in the morning and have it stay hot for at least a few hours but this does NOT keep the coffee hot for very long even if you take it off the base to keep the closure sealed. Perhaps the coffee maker doesn't brew it hot enough in the first place. Warming the pot first helps but not enough and isn't practical if you like to use the timer function. I also have a complaint about the lid because it is hard to get all the liquid out when you're washing it. Spend the extra money and get a better machine! ... Read more

I wrote the following review in April 2005, comparing the Bunn MCP with the Senseo:
5-0 out of 5 stars Bunn MCP My Cafe Professional-Grade Single-Serve Coffee/Tea Machine
I tried almost all the coffee pod coffee makers. The Cafe Professional-Grade Single-Serve Coffee/Tea Machine is by far the best. Makes great coffee and tea. The coffee comes out hot, not warm like the others. You can use any coffee pod you want and you can select how strong or weak you want your coffee or tea. Don't forget the tea. a lot of machines don't make tea. You can even use regular store bought tea bags, just remove the tag. Cost more but well worth it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee.Maker......Thanks B&D
I have been a big fan of B&D Spacesaver CoffeeMaker since the first one came out. I was so happy they came out with the product again. I look over all these reviews prior to my new purchase of the Black & Decker ODC440B SpaceMaker? 12- Cup Under-The-Counter Coffee Maker. I really took the comments with a grain of salt since I am so familiar with the product. I just got my CoffeeMaker today and as always it is Great! There is nothing wrong with this design. Some people just don't know how to make coffee or how to pull a pot off the warming tray. Everything locks in place. The resivoir has a release button so it won't pull out unless you click the button and the gind cup locks in place too. No leaks just a great cup of coffee. My husband and I couldn't wait for this product to come back. We are very pleased. It makes the best coffee and is really attractive in the black. The mounting system works fine too just gotta know how to use a screw driver. Thank You B&D.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Owned it and made coffee for three months, then for no reason I can figure it quit working. Will not buy another.

1-0 out of 5 stars Defective need a replacement
I tried to contact NowOnSale to replace this defevtive product on 7/17, but my email was rejected by their site,I have been on vacation until yesterday and this is the first opportunity that I had to write to you.Imediately after brewing a pot, the unit shuts down completely as though a circuit breaker was opened.the display disappears completely.I have checked the circuit and all is well.I plugged the unit into a surge protector with the same result.I replaced the surge protector with no luck. The only way to energize the unitis to unplug or turn off the surge protector for about a minute, and then turn it back on.The clock then needs to be reset, anfd then the unit can be energized to turn on the hot plate to keep the coffee warm.I spoke with Black and Decker on 7/17, and they advised me to contact you for a replacement. Please send the same unit in Black, and thr RA to return the defective one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tea Pot Too
Got the 4-cup for my kids who come to visit grandpa. Read the reviews and was prepared for drips and leaks. Have had none. Love this thing; makes great coffee. Best of all I now use it constantly for making my tea. Two tea bags in the resivoir and you are good to go. With the paper filter I use my loose leaf teas as well. And they turn out less bitter than when I brew manually. Not to mention Mr Coffee is much faster than the tea kettle on the stove. I would rate this a 7 if I could.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile Purchase
Had to turn in the first unit I bought for a replacement because a small plastic piece on the filter basket door broke, rendering the door useless. The replacement has worked fine, but I am very careful in swinging the door open.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great coffeemaker - too much bling.
And BEWARE THE "DUO FILTER". If you buy this device make sure you dig this bizarre contraption out of the box/coffeemaker before doing anything else. Its a long plastic thing that looks like an IUD and a filter packaged in a white plastic wrap. This is supposed to go into the water reservoir, although you wont find definitive instructions anywhere in the manual. (Arggghhh spit cuss!)
2-0 out of 5 stars Hot Plate and Air Bubble issues

Editorial Review

Employing a stainless-steel vacuum carafe instead of a warmingplate, this 1,200-watt coffeemaker brews up to ten 5-ounce cups in just8 minutes for maximum flavor and aroma, and the carafe then keeps thecoffee hot for 4 hours. The carafe prevents coffee from turning bitter,as it can when sitting on a warming plate, and doesn't have to remainwith the machine for coffee to stay hot. To reduce calcification,Capresso's stainless-steel ThermoBlock system prevents water fromcontacting aluminum inside the machine. Other features: a digital, programmable, 24-hour clock/timer that makes it possible to have coffeeready in the morning; an automatic pause when the carafe is removedduring the brewing process for a quick pour; a charcoal water filter toremove up to 83 percent of the chlorine in tap water; an electronicindicator to show when the water filter needs replacing; a setting forbrewing three to five cups without diluting flavor and aroma; apermanent Gold Tone filter; automatic shutoff after brewing; anexternal water-level indicator; and concealed cord storage.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Yikes!
I read the reviews before buying this coffeemaker and disregarded the ones about it overflowing as fluks or that the users didn't follow the instructions. That was a mistake. I read the instructions. It overflowed everytime I used it. I returned it. Save yourself the trouble and pass on this machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nearly perfect
Capresso's MT-500 is as close to a perfect coffemaker as I have tried. Coffee is brewed quickly and with much taste and aroma. The thermal pot holds heat for several hours reducing the need to make multiple pots during the day. Savings in coffee, filters and spring water should pay for the Capresso in time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not brainless ease of use... but superb coffee
I have owned the MT-500 for about two months and am completely happy with the coffee it is capable of brewing. The water brewing temperature is exactly right on my machine (195 degrees F) and the brew time is OK, if just slightly long (about 5.5 minutes for the full pot of"10" cups - 1.6 liters). I will admit that it took me a while to find the correct brewing proportion of coffee / water. In the end I use 75 grams of medium roast drip grind for the full pot. If I use any more coffee than this the brew basket will overflow and it makes a mess. SO... be warned that this machine takes a little patience and experimentation to master but the results are outstanding. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars fast cup of joe, but 1/2 of it ends up spilling on counter
this coffee maker is acceptable in terms of size, quickness of brew, temperature, and appearance.however, 75% of the time, regardless of angle of pour, speed of pour, or alignment of the planets, this sucker is impossible to pour without dribbling.

3-0 out of 5 stars I hate loving this one.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. My two year old Mr. Coffee had blown some gaskets and was leaking everywhere. I had a coupon and bought this at a fair price in Dec 2004. I love the job it does brewing but hated the carafe immediately. Guess what? The Mr. Coffee carafe fits just fine. There do seem to be some circuit problems over time. After eighteen months, I had mine apart to look. It needs a relay but I kick it and it chatters back and yields another pot. Aside from the carafe issues, I liked this one a lot but it is time to move on once again. I'm sorely tempted to buy another. I guess I'll look for warranty and sales slip paperwork but for a dollar a month, it was a trooper that did its duty. The carafe from four cup Mr. Coffee fits, so if you are having issues, the replacement MC carafes are pretty cheap.I may have cooked the relay by cycling the hot plate back on too often. It rides on a cute little circuit board inside that could be replaced in ten minutes. I may just bypass all that and make it soldier on by making it plug and play.

3-0 out of 5 stars Take it or leave it
I selected this item because the black base and stainless steel carafe matched nicely with my other kitchen appliances. I also figured the stainless steel carafe would be more durable than a glass one. Now that I've got it though, its a bit bothersome not to be able to see the amount of coffee in the carafe without removing the lid. Although its less likely to dribble when pouring than my previous coffee maker, you can't pour out the last spoonful or so of coffee without holding it upside down and shaking it. Its also more awkward to fill the reservoir and to see how full it is than with my previous maker. Its too bad they don't make that model anymore. I've been using it for about a month now and other than the nuisances I've already described, its worked fine and appears to be solidly built. Still, I can take it or leave it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The slim and trim Scandinavian Design coffee maker from Presto offers speedy brewing in a smart, space-saving machine. Engineered with a patented top heating element, the unit heats water to the ideal temperature for extracting flavor from coffee grounds and ensures that it's especially hot right before it hits the coffee. During brewing, the machine includes a pause-and-serve feature, so you can pour a cup before the brew process is finished, while the 24-hour programmable timer means the coffee will be ready when you wake. Able to brew up to 10 cups in about eight minutes, the machine keeps coffee hot for about two hours then shuts off power for safety. The keep-warm element deserves special mention--its Positive Temperature Coefficient design cycles on and off to maintain optimum serving temperature.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It makes the same old coffee taste better.
I very seldom write reviews on Amazon, but I will write one for this machine. It makes the same old coffee taste better. The flavor is more complex, deeper, more subtle shades.Words don't convey tastes very well.Buy the thing and try it.I bought the Goldtone filter as well.It fits like a glove.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
I read the reviews for this and was swayed to order it. Bad choice.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great coffee at a great price
I'm the first to admit that I'm a coffee snob. I rarely drink coffee in resaurants or coffee shops, preferring my own espresso brew to all others.Being so picky, finding a good, everyday drip coffee pot to keep on hand when I need to brew a full pot for company at such a cheap price seemed impossible. I still can't believe how good the coffee is from this pot. Mind you, it's not sheshe gormet, but it IS very good, everyday coffee - hot coffee. A good quality thermos will keep it hot for hours.

1-0 out of 5 stars Keeps coffe hot--that's its only advantage--poor performance and quality.
Purchased the unit about 6 months ago and have never been happy with it. The heating plate under the pot started to rust; the pot leaks every time it's poured; it's almost impossible to pour water into the water chamber without spilling it; the handle of the coffee basket broke within a few months; and two days ago the entire top of the unit snapped off when we opened it to pour in the water. We purchased this unit because of the Cuisinart brand and the stainless steel carafe. We will not purchase another.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some flaws worth considering
I've had this for about 9 months and I don't think I've ever quite liked it. I'm shocked to read that some people think it doesn't brew hot enough. My warmer plate runs so hot that by about the time the carafe has enough coffee for a cup's worth, it has already made the coffe almost hot enough to boil. I always have to wait 5-10 minutes after pouring myself a cup before I can drink it. I never had this problem with my old black n decker.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best lil red coffee maker!!!
I love my Cuisinart 4 cup coffeemaker with stainless steel carafe.I chose the red and it looks so sharp in my kitchen.Makes wonderful coffee.I always get compliments on how my coffee tastes so good.I will get another one if this one ever wears out. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money
I did a lot of research before purchasing this coffee maker.I spent a lot of money, and now after less than a year, I am looking for a replacement, and it won't be another DeLonghi product. The gold filter disentegrated after 3 months. When it came time to replace the charcoal filter in the water filtration unit, I could not find anyone who carried them.I contacted DeLonghi, and they sent me to some online dealer who never returned my emails. The basket that holds the filters has a plastic piece that keeps falling off.And finally, believe everyone who says the carafe leaks when you pour the coffee.I thought they were just crazy and couldn't pour properly, but the only way to avoid half of your coffee running all over the counter is to hold the carafe over the sink at about three feet above your mug, then pour very very slowly. At least the drips will go down the drain.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great coffemaker and the best customer support
I bought this coffeemaker from Starbucks, believing that if they recommend it, it must be great. Ultimately they were vindicated. My unit initially exhibited all of the problems others have written about: overflows and an inability to pour without spills, then later on another very serious problem. The good news is that DeLonghi has great customer service, they are acutely aware of issues with this unit and they fully solved my problems. DeLonghi promptly sent me a new lid and new carafe which worked perfectly. (It seems many units were delivered having been fitted with an incorrect seal, causing the spill problems.) After receiving the new lid and carafe, all seemed ok, barring the rare, occasional overflow. Then one day, the coffemaker just died! Lights out. Done. I thought I was surely in for a protracted dispute with the DeLonghi company. They surprised me (perhaps I'm jaded) by immediately sending me a brand newly boxed unit, complete with all the accessories.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Review from Coffee Lover
I disagree with many of the other people reviewing this coffee maker.I buy a new coffee maker about every six to nine months because I am fussy about coffee quality and features.First and foremost, this maker brews an excellent pot of coffee. And, it's stylish looks are great on the kitchen counter. It got my four stars based on coffee quality alone. Now a couple of the insignificant negatives that resulted in 4 instead of 5 stars. The time setting, and controls could be much easier to use and more user friendly. The carafe could pour better, although after a few uses I now know how to use the carafe without trashing the kitchen counters. There - that's it - two negatives, both of which after using the maker for a while, I'll get used to.The positive features, such as the removable water tank, the easy to use and clean filter holder, top access, design and the GREAT COFFEE make this a coffee maker I would reccomend to anyone. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Warning! Do not purchase this product.
I just purchased this filter and it is much smaller than the filter basket of the coffee maker. I thought it would fit snugly, but it does not. There is a gap between the outside of the filter and the basket.
2-0 out of 5 stars don't buy this product
Don't buy this product, because is not bigger then other filters that are sold at grocery stores.I first bougth one from a grocery store and I thought it was too small to fit right in the hamilton beach brewstation so I went and bot this product thinking it would fit better to my amazement it did not it was no biger then the filter I bought at the grocery store and I pay only 3.95 for the filter it was black and decker filter.I promise you will be mad when you get it cause you would think it would be custom made for the actual brewstation but is not.

3-0 out of 5 stars Agreat product till they start leaking!
This is a highly recommended product if you are willing to buy a new one every 2 years or so. I have read of others having the same problem that we did. We have one & it started to leak around the bottom edges a few drops at 1st. As time went by, it would leak more according to how much water was in the pitcher; (the seal inside the pitcher was slowly getting worse).
5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS! (not easy when I hate gadgets and the Kitchen)
Well maybe its not really a gadget, but its not a pot and a flame either!
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the extra price.
Just got this unit and love it.Got sick of going back and forth to the microwave to heat water for my tea so decided to finally purchase and electric kettle to keep at my desk. After reading reviews I finally decided to pay a little extra to get this unit.Part of the reason for going with the more expensive unit was because my coworker had a cheaper one and stopped using it because it was so loud. When the water boiled the unit would vibrate and make a lot of noise as the water boiled. This unit does not have that problem.Item is sturdy and well made and pretty quiet.Another advantage of this unit is that there are no coils so cleaning is a cinch. This unit is very easy to use and I would definitely recommend it. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Can't get rid of foul taste
There is something inside that's tainting the flavor of the coffee. You can smell it while it's brewing. I figured it was just the "new" smell but it persists. I've cleaned it twice with vinegar... no help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Coffeemaker
This coffee maker is easy to use and easy to clean.I get a perfect cup of coffee every time. It's fast. Also, it has a pleasant appearance and does not take a lot of counterspace.I am pleased to recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars WHAT A GREAT PRODUCT!
I bought some of the most expensive coffee makers out there equipped with all (and too many) bells and whistles). At the end of the day, those coffee pots were never any good -coffee was COLD...features were not necessary...and COSTLY!

39. Bodum 3000-10USAA Electric Santos 12-Cup Coffeemaker With Timer, Clear

Editorial Review

Many products are touted for their uniqueness, or how they're revolutionizing this or that, but few live up the hype. Bodum's Santos coffeemaker is different, as it really is unlike other coffeemakers on the market. First off, it uses an electric vacuum brewing process, and secondly it lets you watch the whole thing. Fill the jug with cold filtered water, and place it on the power base. Then twist the funnel onto the jug. Next, add fresh coffee (a handy scoop is included) to the funnel and press the start button. As the water heats up to boiling, the vacuum created between the two parts moves water up the funnel, where the hot water and coffee mix together. Once the correct brewing time has elapsed, the heat turns off and the coffee drains back into the carafe through a nylon filter (nylon doesn't affect the taste of the coffee like paper filters).Read more

Features

  • Unique electric-vacuum brewing process; coffee and hot water mingle for optimum time
  • Built-in nylon filter provides better tasting coffee; slide-out funnel holder
  • 40-ounce capacity; 24-hour timer; keep-warm feature; automatic shut-off
  • Takes 11 minutes for up to 12 cups of coffee

2-0 out of 5 stars Uses Twice as Much Coffee as a French Press
See other reviews for a description of overall performance and cleaning. Cool design, but overpriced and requires the use of nearly twice as much coffee to arrive at a similar strength to that typical of a french press. I only used this coffee maker 3 times, and reverted to the press.
5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this coffeemaker!
...but invest in a soft spongy brush for the carafe and a smaller skinny brush for the tube inside. The Santos makes the best cup of joe I've ever had and although I was skeptical after several weeks of researching and reading customer reviews it's not that hard to clean if you spend an extra $5 on the right tools.
5-0 out of 5 stars A little extra effort, but well worth it.
I have to start by saying I got a great deal on this machine.I already wanted one and the Bodum store in Dallas was closing so I got it for 50% off along with a grinder and other Bodum goodies..I have to agree with other reviewers issues with cleaning. It is a bit of a pain but I've found that a bottle cleaner with just a sponge tip--NO SCRUBBER-IT SCRATCHES--works just fine.I put the funnel in the dishwasher about once a month.I've found that the grounds will dry faster and be easier to clean out of the funnel when the coffee isn't piled on the filter before brewing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
The convenience tempted me to try this for $20 at my local grocery. Poorly executed & constructed, the pods were too expensive & bland. Will be donating this to charity.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked for a Year
I used this appliance on the weekends for the first 6 months. After that, I began using it for 2 cups a day, seven days a week. It's been a year and the pod holder and casing around the pod holder have completely cracked. It costs $16 (w/shipping) to order the replacement part. My recommendation is to put your money into something that will last longer.

3-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.
On average, we go through one of these units per year. But, you only pay in the $30-$40 range for this piece of equipment, so you can't really expect it to last forever. If you want durable construction (read:not plastic) then you must purchase a more expensive unit.If you want REAL cappuccino, you have to spring for the $2000 cappucino maker.
