Great dehydrator
I agree with all the other reviews on this product.One missing nice-to-have feature would be a "timer".This is because, after several iterations, you will get a good feel for your optimal dehydration time for your particular fruit/vegetable of choice.In these cases, it would be ideal to have a timer turn the machine off so you don't have to supervise it.Myself, I've connected an external timer to it for dehydrating my Gala apples for exactly 4 hours 20 mins :-).If the machine were a little less loud and had a timer, it would receive 5-stars from me.

Dehydrator is efficient and powerful
After trying smaller, less powerful, circular dehydrators, we were very happy with the performance of the Nesco model. The unit keeps the air circulation among stackable trays which leads to quicker drying of veggies in 1/3 the time of other brands. We use the four tray system, but the powerful fan could handle several more trays with the same efficiency. The fan noise is noticable, but not annoying. And the unit could be moved to a remote room if that were an issue (which it was not!) Also the metal construction of the base and heavy-duty plastic trays promise a very durable product. The candy-like dried fruits and veggies are delicious, healthy and delightful!

What was I thinking when I bought this product
Thats what I was thinking after I ordered this dehydrator.What do I need a dehydrator for.There are too many other things, that I could use more.And I am not much of a cook, beyond nuking something that's frozen.There are not many products reviewed on Amazon that get consistent 5 stars from this many reviewers.That was a big factor in my decision.

Great Starter Dehydrator
Have tried to dehydrate several fruits - peaches, bananas, papaya, pineapple - turned out great. Jerky - better than store bought. Haven't tried leathers yet. Am very pleased with FD-35 - have been using it almost every day since it arrived. Cindy, Watha, NC

Great bargain - exactly what I was looking for!!
I wanted to dabble into making some homemade Beef Jerky.. but I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on a dehydrator because I wasn't sure of the outcome..
Not worth the money!
The first time I tried using this machine to make beef jerky it shut off in the middle of the process.I had to stay next to it for 8 hours making sure it didn't shut off. When it shut off I had to take the cover off and let the machine cool down.And this happened about 15 times.What a pain!I called the company and they said that they would send me a new one but I needed to ship the old one to them at my cost - WHAT!This is a brand new machine used once and I have to pay to ship the machine back.Buy a different machine! ... Hard to find in stores
This is our favorite flavor to use to make hamburger jerky.Our grandson will not eat hamburgers but eats this and loves it.Yes, he knows it's made of hamburger but he doesn't care.
I add cayene and/or black pepper
I used a gift certificateto stock up on this jerky spice. You can use this as a base and add other spices to it to make it your very own. Teriyaki, soy and garlic are good too. My family and friends are always asking me to make more jerky. We love it!

Absolutely love this machine, Beef jerky heaven.
This is the second food dehydrator I have owned, and I must say that this one is a great investment and value. My other machine was a lower priced model from another company, and takes longer to work. This machine is quiet and fast.The beef jerky recipe is great, or you can buy the optional jerky gun from Nesco and use their mix packets.About 3 LBS of ground beef and the jerky gun will fill this machine and be done in about 4 hours.I have made about 12 batches over the past year with this machine, and it is reliable and consistent.Unless you do tons of fruit or jerky, buying a larger model is just not worth it. For the causual user like me, this is the best model. Dishwasher safe clean up of trays as well (takes some maneuvering though to fit them in).

It's a workhorse.
I'm brand new to the raw/natural food & dehydrator craze. I can munch on a handful of excellent zucchini, banana, or sweet potato 'chips' made in this dehydrator and feel like it's a guilty pleasure.Who knew?Easy way to get your daily serving of veggies.Every time I use it I've got all 6 trays going at once, at capacity.If you're gung-ho raw foodies (or a bigger family) you might want to order more trays from another source. Amazon doesn't seem to sell them, but pleasanthillgrain.com does.They also sell the L'Equip as listed here, but charge more.I figure eventually I'll have to just chip in for more trays.
Regarding False Advertising
This whole false advertising argument is based on an incorrect product description on amazon.com.

Got this for christmas and couldn't be happier.Yes the size dimensions are not quite what is advertised on the box, but, I am not dehydrating for a restaurant and don't need that much space anyway. It is still a lot of drying room.Also,it is quiet, efficient, and, for me, the best looking one I have seen.

Who wrote the manual?
I read all the reviews and decided to purchase this machine.But like many manuals the author was in a hurry when he/she wrote it.So since I've never used a dehydrator before I don't know whether I can use all five trays at once; if I only need one tray, do I leave the others in there? Do I have to use the drying screen and what is it for?It's difficult to remove or place trays while rotating but maybe that's a bad idea anyway although it says to let it warm up so then do I turn it off again?The manual also says that the drying temperature is around 150 degrees but then later says it's between 100 and 140 degrees.I bought this one because it says it doesn't overheat and I guess some dehydrators you can set the temperature on, another reason I got it was because my oven doesn't go lower than 170 so I'm hoping the temperature is between 100 and 140 but I'm guessing the 150 is probably more accurate.Also, it tells you how to rehydrate but once again the author was in a hurry and so everywhere it means to say rehydrate it says dehydrate.They put it in bold to distinguish so it's really funny because it'll say to dehydrate blah blah blah and to DEHYDRATE (in bold not caps) put in water . . . There are also several other typos.
Just the gift for a friend
I gave this as a gift for a friend who wanted to replace a similar item which got very old but still works.I'd like to buy extra trays for this but couldn't find them.Someone could help and find them for me to buy.The dehydrator arrived on HI so quickly.As always, we get superior service through Amazon.Thank you.

works great for leathers, backpacking and not just on nesco
I have a ronco dehydrator and at first didn't think these fit.However, after pushing on them a bit, they fit great and work like a charm!I've made excellent apple leather out of applesauce and have dried spaghetti sauce to use for dinner on an overnight backpacking trip.

Fruit rolls - mmmmm!
My mother has these and I used to make lots of fruit rolls with them - lots of fun, and a good treat!I recommend mixing applesauce with (thawed) frozen fruit juice concentrate of your choice to make whatever flavor you like.My favorite was mixing grape fruit juice concentrate with the applesauce.It makes a very deep purple and fruity treat.(Ratio was one can frozen concentrate to a big jar of applesauce.I'll edit my post and add specific sizes soon.)

Great for fruit snacks
I bought a set of these to make fruit rolls for hiking.The Scouts in my troop are always impressed with them (if I bring enough to share).They work great, and are very easy to use.Simply spray them with Pam and pour your fruit mixture on them.Put them in the dehydrator and turn it on.For the fruit mixture, I usually use unsweetened applesauce (from big Costco jars) mixed with jam or jelly.In season, I've also used fresh fruit with applesauce, but it sometimes comes out a little sour.Read more

Works just the way it should
This dehydrator works just the way it should - quietly and efficiently.The jerky came out perfect and took slightly less time than was expected (about 6 hours).Given the relatively low cost and ease of use, this product is worth it.If you are going to do more than 3 pounds of meat you might want to buy additional trays.Cleanup was also quite easy.There are other products that cost more, but I doubt that they do the job any better. ... hesitant at first, but quick easy and GOOD beef jerky
I am a casual user of the food dehydrator, mainly for beef jerky. I had always used thin cut steak and marinated it for a day or two and then dehydrated. Well, I received a Nesco dehydrator for christmas which had jerky spice packets included with it. Reviewing how these packets worked, i saw that it called for ground meat, a new concept for me. Well, I broke down and got this item and mixed up a small batch, and I am never going back to the steak. It took a while for me to perfect which flavors to use, but this is as close to store bought jerky you can get.My best batch is 3lbs of 96%lean ground beef, one Hot & SPicy pack, One teryaki pack, and One original pack...with one 4 oz bottle of Hickory Liquid smoke...and presto...Store bought beef jerky. I have a Nesco dehydrator (see my other review nesco FD-60), and 3 lbs ground beef fill all the trays with the flat jerky strips.Lowrey's beware. And it's quick to make this, no marinating or cutting up beef, just buy the meat, mix the spices in, and into the gun it goes, and little formed strips of beef come out the gun. It's just like a caulk gun. I make the flat strips, but this kit comes with the capability to make beef sticks as well, which are awesome as well. Try this jerky fans, you will not be disappointed

Barely gets by
After borring my brothers, i decided to buy my own jerky gun. I bought the exact model he had but my first one would not advance the meat. Amazon replaced it with another one that still did not work, the cap kept popping off when I pressed meat into the tube. I returned that one too and gave up after that. If you can afford to pay $40, then go get yourself a real jerky gun.
Works good but doesn't last
The product certainly does do it's job and makes formed jerky and beef sticks, but being that it is of cheap construction (like everything else it seems) doesn't last all that long.As another reviewer posted, once it starts making popping noises, you're on borrowed time as the internal spring piece (what you push down to pull the barrel back) will strip out and become chewed up, especially if you're using harder cuts of meat (or meat with more fat/water as it gives more resistance).I would've preferred if they had used better parts, but obviously it would cost more, and you wouldn't have to keep paying money and buy new ones! ... Good price, but you get what you pay for
I am not unsatisfied with my dehydrator, but after several years of use the tray are starting to warp/melt.It dries things fairly quickly, and having a large garden (3/4 acre) I use it all year long.
Great Service, great product
I received the dehydrator in great time, have spent so much time looking for one in the stores.Got it at a great price.Now I have enough snacks around for young kids as well as adults.Fruit comes out tasty.I have also done many green peppers, tomatoes, parsley, onions, and more from the garden.It is so simple and I have all I need stored away for use.Can't wait for the garden to produce again next year.
Not a great purchase at any price!
I bought this machine for making jerky for the family before vacation. I have made jerky many times in the past but have not had a machine in years. Price was great, so I thought. Bought $35 worth of meat, marinated and put it in the dehydrator. Drying time is very slow, the meat spoiled from lack of air rotation and lack of heat through the trays. 2 days later when the jerky was finally done (supposed to be) all the trays had cracked around the rim and the slats had fallen off like particles of glass onto the meat. So, need I say more. Contacted the company and if you warranty within the 1st 30 days they will replace the product. I find this hard that it is not an ongoing issue with the set up of the machine. I am going to request a refund from the company and we will see what happens. I recommend you search for another deyhdrator altogether. The machine not only cost me the $30 but the meat loss of $35 a total loss so far of $65. Should have just gone to Walmart to purchase jerky for the vacation! ... Read more

Very Happy with this purchase..

Excellent!
Love it!The Jerky maker along with the dehydrator is the smartest way to go.I also buy the Nesco Jerky Spice Works boxes that come with spice packets & cure mixes.For the men in your lives that crave substance, they'll love it, too.It's more frugal to make your own your jerky.Plus you know exactly from what & how it's made.I just mix 1 lb ground beef with one cure mix then mix in a season packet.Put it through your jerky maker pump & dry for a few hours. I haven't tried cutting up strips of flank steak or round steak, yet. I did make a couple good batches of my own granola bars.I lined the trays with plastic wrap, spread my granola mix on, dried & broke into pieces.(no High Fructose corn syrup in mine!) Machine also quickly makes great apple chips & banana chips.I like to dip my banana slices in a mix of half water & half honey.Very tasty and good for you.It also may be a good idea to only put one sliced banana portion (or apple) per tray.Then when it's done drying, store one tray portion in a 4 oz plastic container. (Glad or Tupperware, etc, reusable containers you can buy in the stores).They are then great to put in your husband's lunchbox (or kids').Keeping the "one fruit" portions separated is a good idea for portion control because smaller, dried, snack food is a big culprit of over-eating.One does not realize how much they are eating.You normally wouldn't sit down & eat two bananas or two apples in a row.Back to the dehydrator itself, I love how the motor is on top & comes down through the middle.No rotating trays or drip messes on a bottom coil.I love mine!Hope this helps! ... Great for dried sticky fruits
We have an apricot tree at my parents' house and my dad used to love to make frozen apricots. The problem with drying them however, is that they stick to the dehydrator as the sugars concentrate in the fruit.
Works Great for small items.
These inserts are wonderful.I can dry small items like grapes (raisins) and they don't fall through the slots.I can also lift out the inserts and finished product slides off easily.
