Editorial Review

This electric food chopper accomplishes a food processor's principal function of chopping and mincing without having to haul out the big machine. It's just 8 inches high and 4-3/4 inches in diameter, and its 3-cup bowl is ample for many chores in a family household and most chores in a one or two-person household. At 150 watts, the motor is powerful enough to chop or mince vegetables, fruits, herbs, cheese, nuts, chocolate, cooked meats, and bread. The power head has a soft grip for easy one-handed use. The rugged, plastic bowl; its slip-resistant base, which doubles as the bowl's lid for storing food; and the stainless-steel blade are all dishwasher-safe. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm buying more of these for presents.
This is the best chopper. I have a small food processor and a large food processor.I have purchased those handheld types that you pound up and down.I've went through several of those, because they are handy.Well this one is just as handy. It cleans up so easily.I don't have to twist parts to lock in place, just place the top over the non-skid bottom and BOOM! Your chopping. It doesn't mush your food either, it chops!

I love this thing!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great little chopper!!!
I just received my food chopper on today and immediately washed it out in some Dawn w/bleach detergent.I followed the directions as to how to prepare my veggies before putting them into the chopper and didn't have any problems whatsoever.I chopped up some celery, scallions and one hard-boiled egg to add to canned tuna and canned turkey. Then, I spooned the chopped mixture into separate bowls with one tablespoon of Hellman's mayo, 2 teaspoons of sweet relish and a few sprinkles of black pepper.I put this over some lettuce and it was very tasty!!! I love this little product and I'm very happy that I purchased it when I did.It will definitely make my life in the kitchen alot easier and healthier!!!!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Chrome-painted plastic, NOT metal
Most of the rack and lids are not made of metal, but painted plastic. The circular top and bottom are the only metal parts on it, and those are just a thin metal shell over plastic underneath them.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite gadgets
This is useful and fun, what more could you ask ? You can use one or two probes. The probes are connected to the transmitter, you then turn on the remote, then the transmitter. I use it for everything, steaks, chops, whatever. I go into the living room and watch the remote. When the temperature gets over about 100 I turn the meat over if necessary. The only thing I have noticed is the temperatures that trigger the audible alarm are set too high, likely thanks to lawyers. For example, when I set it to medium rare for beef, it was more like medium. Now I set it on rare ( 140 ) and get a perfect medium rare. For pork the number is 170. I take it off at 160. After all, it continues to cook after it is taken off. Before I bought this I used to guess but now I get perfect results every time. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE best wireless transmitter for the money
This transmitter works flawlessly. The dual-probes let you track two meats - or if you are like me and like to cook things at low (200-250 degree) temperatures it is invaluable to free you from having to sit next to the grill the whole time.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money.
This would be a fantastic item - if only it would work! I followed the instructions exactly and repeatedly for set up.It works great for about 20 minutes, then it loses the remote signal from the probes even when the receiver is located 15 feet away from my smoker. The signal won't come back until I go through set up, re-entering every setting only to lose the signal again in about 20 minutes. I made certain that I haven't exceeded operating temperatures or violted any other parameters for use. This product is a dog! ... Read more

Although this crock and utensil set is designed to color-coordinate with Le Creuset cookware, the superb quality and choice of colors makes this a great gift for any cook, regardless of his or her cookware brand. The one-quart ceramic crock sits sturdily on the countertop and shows an attractive glaze pattern that fades from dark at the bottom to light at the flared top. Included are six tools with high-heat-resistant silicone heads that won't scratch nonstick pans and remove from the wooden handles for dishwasher cleaning.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice but pricey
These are great spatulas. They have virtually replaced all of my other cooking utensils.I tend to favor the larger ones but will use the smaller ones in a pinch.I have to remember to pop the heads off to wash so the wood handles do not swell and warp in water.I do put the heads in the dishwasher and they come out fine.I have not had a problem with the heads slipping off during use if I pay attention to putting the larger heads on the larger handles. The red is BRIGHT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well-crafted thermometer
This thermometer is perfectly designed, with the bulb sitting far enough away from the bottom to give a proper reading. The metal backing makes it very sturdy. The clip can be used to affix it vertically to a pot, or just to prop it up slanted in a smaller pot.
5-0 out of 5 stars good
I had been making fudge and doing the water method to determine if it was in the soft stage and let me tell you. This thermometer is the way to go. No guessing. When it reaches 240 degrees which it is also mark 'soft stage', I know it's time to remove from the heat. It has all kinds of markings on it next to the degree markings. Extremely helpful.I like the idea that it has an adjustable clamp on it to fit any depth size pan. The glass tip of the thermometer is about 1/2" higher than the metal framing to prevent the tip from touching the bottom of the pan. This is a pretty big thermometer. Approx. 8" high. Very sturdy and good quality made. You can see why some people have had these for years and years. Highly recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelllent thermometer
I purchased this thermometer to replace the one my mother (who has always loved to make candy) has used for the last 40 years. It was the same thermometer. She broke it, or it would still be going another 40. Most companies don't even last that long, much less their products. ... Read more

Designed to be used with all Tilia FoodSaver vacuum-packaging machines, the two rolls of material in this package can be cut and sealed at both ends to create custom-size food-storage bags. Each roll is 8 inches wide and 22 feet long. The material is a three-layer construction--two plastic layers and an outer layer of nylon--that keeps moist foods moist, dry foods dry, and all foods from leaking odor. Bags can go directly into a microwave oven or boiling water to reheat food. They are resealable, reusable, and dishwasher-safe. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great price for these rolls
You can't beat this price for these rolls. If you own the machine, you'll want more of the bags to seal and store, for sure. This is the best price I could find on this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars These Are Okay, But I Like the 11" Better
The basic concept appears sound.Smaller foods need smaller width bags. However, in practice we rarely use the 8 inch width. There are a few things that fit better in the 8 inch width, but considering that almost everything that we routinely use in the kitchen will fit in the 11 inch width, we tend to use that width most of the time.
4-0 out of 5 stars rolls vs. bags
The 8x11.5" quart bags are more convenient to use, but I figured the 8" x 22' rolls would be more cost-effective.As it turns out, the rolls (at $18.69 for 44 bags' worth - assuming a foot per use) are slightly more expensive than the bags (at $18 for 48), so you might as well get the bags.As for being able to use more or less as needed, I've found that I can re-seal or re-use the bags, thus leaving me an assortment of available sizes when I've used their previous contents. It is occasionally useful to have larger sizes, so I would recommend purchasing the bags in the quart size & the rolls in the larger 11" x 18' to give a wide range of useful applications. ... Sometimes the wheel needs to be reinvented, and theside-operation can opener, like this Good Grips Smooth Edge model from Oxo, is a case in point. Designed to operate on the horizontal, the opener makes a smooth cut below the can edge. The lid doesn't fall into the can, and the opener makes minimal contact with can contents.Built-in lid pliers let you grip the lid without touching it for clean and efficient removal. Though the large handles may be unwieldy for small hands, Oxo does use soft, nonslip material for a more comfortable grip. Like most standard manual openers, this unit is designed for right-handed operation. It measures 7-1/2 inches long and is safe for the dishwasher. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EXELLENT PRODUCT
This can opener is well worth spending a little extra money for.I had bad experiences with two cheaper smooth-edge type can openers, one left metal shavings along the rim of the can after opening (GROSS!) and one just plain broke after one use. This OXO Good Grips can opener is sturdy and feels like cutting through soft butter while moving around the can.It also leaves a very clean cut and the lid pops on or off the can like a dream.Highly recommend.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible design
I bought one of these while looking for a side cutting can opener. It works great for the standard soup can size. However, the handle is mounted on the side which means that when you try to open larger diameter cans with it, the handle bumps into the can and doesn't turn! What's the point of having a replacable lid on your food if the only cans you can do it to are the tiny sizes? Whomever designed this thing should be homeless.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best I have used
I'll make this review simple. This is the best hand-held can opener I have ever used. It fits in your hand comfortably, turns with minimal effort, and does the job with ease. Since the lid won't fall into the can once you have it open, this is as good as it gets. ... Read more

For fluffy, evenly sized cheese shreds, this is the perfect grater. Its design is based on that of a rasp, the small and efficient woodworking tool. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the completely flat grating surface makes it easy to move the cheese across the blades. Carrots, onions, and medium to firm cheeses all worked beautifully with this grater. It's also an excellent choice for larger strips of citrus zest or ginger. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EASY!
I have watched chefs on cooking shows use this microplane and thought I would give it a try. I am thrilled. The first time I used it to zest a lemon, it took the zest and left the pith behind. I plan on using this item for many, many things and I know it will work just fine.

The USDA recommends pressure canning as the only safe method for low-acid foods such as vegetables, meats, and poultry. It's a professional-quality tool, made of heavy-duty aluminum, with stay-cool handles and a strong-lock steel lid. As a kid,I shelled more peas, snapped more beans and scraped more new potatoes than I ever thought necessary! Now I appreciate what she did and I'm trying to follow suit. This item was a total success. It was very easy to use and worked as advertised. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to bring the country back to their kitchen. Canned goods at the store might be easier but nothing tastes better on a cold winter day than the vegetables you put up yourself out of your own garden in the summer. The SaladShooter makes a fabulous gift for those who like big, healthy salads loaded with veggies, homemade pizza with plenty of grated cheese, desserts topped with nuts or chocolate--find yourself in that portrait somewhere? Amazingly fast, the SaladShooter literally shoots out prepared food directly into a salad bowl or in neat piles for an assemble-your-own taco party. Featuring sharp stainless-steel cutting blades, the two interchangeable cones, one for shredding and one for slicing, each slip in and out of the main chute and are secured in place with a twist-lock ring. That’s all--no complicated parts to assemble. Food should be cut into blocks or lengths that fit into the food chamber, and a chart in the user guide specifies which cone to use for which foods. To operate, one hand grips the handle of the shooter and flips on the power switch, while the other hand presses down on the food guide to produce a steady output of shredded or sliced food. There’s no need to wash the parts in between processing different kinds of food, so shredded cheese, lettuce, carrots, and more are ready one after the other. All parts except the motor base can be washed in the dishwasher. The SaladShooter is not intended for grinding coffee or processing cranberries, tomatoes, or meats. Measuring 9-1/2 by 7 by 3-1/2 inches with a five-foot cord, the SaladShooter is covered by a two-year warranty against defects. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars replacement
The purchase of this salad shooter replaces our 7 year old shooter. The old one stopped working due to a worn out switch. I was informed by Presto that these items are not repairable. They do not carry parts to repair them. So now my wife has a new shooter that she uses daily and that saves her a lot of time. And now I don't mind helping her with grating the veges as the shooter takes all of the work out of it. It's also very easy to clean. Any one who cooks a lot should have one of these

This food mill is an excellent tool for making homemade baby purees from fibrous ingredients, such as peas, dried apricots, or prunes, as it pushes through the smooth pulp and leaves the fiber behind. In addition, it strains seeds and skin from tomatoes to make soup or sauce and makes the fluffiest mashed potatoes. Made of high-quality stainless-steel, this tomato/vegetable mill has three heavy-duty blades with fine, medium, and coarse holes to accommodate many different foods. After inserting the proper blade, you can load up to 2.1 quarts of puree ingredients into the mill. Then simply rotate the handle to push fruits and veggies through the strainer with the paddle. The food mill has three non-slip legs that allow it to rest on any pot or bowl with a 9-inch or smaller diameter. For mess-free clean-up, the mill is dishwasher-safe. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for applesauce
I make homemade applesauce every year.I had an old (regular steel) Foley Food mill which is probably 25 or more years old. It's starting to show it's age.I wanted to get one for my daughter who is setting up her own household, so picked up one of these. After using hers, I decided to give up on MY old one and get one for myself.I also had a minute or so of difficulty assembling, but not bad.The only thing I wish I had was some sort of guidelines on what kind of food goes best with each insert (e.g., which to use for mashed potatoes?).I guessed to use the middle for applesauce and it worked great.I plan to experiment with mashing potatoes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well made for price
This is a great food mill compared to others in the price range. It has a larger diameter than my old mill which makes it faster. The disks are well made and are sharp/abrasive enough to process the food. The spring is strong enough to force most of the food through.
5-0 out of 5 stars MIU Food Mill
Excellent operating device that cleans easily. We've had ours now for over a year and does beautiful work. Some reviewers had assembly trouble on the account that there is no instrucion manual.I had similar difficulties initially. So, if you cannot get the mill to turn, you have the grater (insert) upside down.(This is somewhat counterintuitive because the whole device is shiny and the correct upward facing grater surface is matte. The shiny side goes down)

5-0 out of 5 stars How did I live without it??
This gadget has got the be the coolest thing I have bought for my kitchen in years (and I buy A LOT of things for my kitchen)! We are getting ready to make apple butter for the first time (my husband misses his grandmother's homemade apple butter from PA) and I wasn't looking forward to peeling, coring, and cutting bushels of apples.I saw this and figured it was worth the money to save my sanity! We got it last night and grabbed a few apples to test out... it works PERFECTLY!Even the kids are able to use it with no problems. They were all sitting at the table with their own apple cut into a spiral in minutes.AMAZING!My husband is excited... now not only will he get his apple butter, but I will bake apple pies a lot more often!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great product, but don't buy it here
This is a great peeler.Cook's Illustrated rated it as the best mechanical peeler.I had a very similar looking one that I bought last year, but it wasn't as well made as the A505 and it didn't work as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best ever
Just purchased this item.I truely don't know what I did before I got it.It takes about 7 minutes to peel enough apples for an entire pie.It does absolutely great peeling potatoes... especially the ones you skin your knuckles on with a conventional peeler. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Professional pizza and traditional European bread ovens are often lined with stone or brick. This is so heat is stored up and redistributed evenly. The resulting blast of heat from the Old Stone Oven rectangular pizza stone gives bread and pizza a nice chewy crust. The rustic French tarts called galettes are also well suited to a baking stone. To use the stone, place it in a cold oven and preheat to 500 degrees for pizza, or according to the recipe for bread or galettes. The stone is made of the same material that lines blast furnaces and kilns, so it can handle ultra-high temperatures.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars At last! A home-made pizza worth eating!
I was helped in choosing this pizza stone by the hundreds of online reviews and suggestions posted by people from all over. Well, they were all right. Excellent item. I bought two stones and used them simultaneously for the first two homemade pizzas of my life... DELICIOUS! As others have suggested, I never remove the stone from the oven, and lately I just placed a pan containing the dough for an olive focaccia and it came out perfectly done. I am convinced that the stone works its magic also when not used to bake directly on it. I am extremely happy so far and I'd highly recommend this item. Buon Appetito!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pizza Stone
I can't believe how fast I received my pizza stone and the way it was packaged was great.I've use pizza stones before and loved the way they even out the heat in the oven and the cripy crust that it gives.I'll very happy with my purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars it's a must for crisp crust!
One of two ordered stones arrived broken. It was quickly replaced and the broken one sent back.I'm not sure if I was charged and then credited or they just sent the replacement on faith. Might buy another one. It's a must for thin, crisp, crust. ... Read more

This lightweight cutter divides a potato into its french-fry essence in a jiffy. One blade creates up to 49 3/8-inch fries with a single lever-push. The other creates up to 25 half-inch fries. You'll get those numbers, however, only if you precisely shape a large potato to fit the bed. The bed's size is the cutter's only drawback. Even if you cut a large potato to fit the head, the fry length is at most 3-1/2 inches. That length, however, is ideal for carrot, cucumber, and zucchini batons to assemble a vegetable tray around a bagna cauda, an Italian dipping sauce of olive oil, butter, garlic, and anchovies. And such batons get you halfway to a pretty dice for a vegetable soup. Hand wash. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet potato fry heaven
If you nuke or boil the potatoes before running them through it works great. We use it for sweet potato fries once a week and it seems to be standing up to my husbands force when the potatoes are not quite soft enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
This fry cutter is good if you have a small potato and want some fries...otherwise you will need to cut your potato first. Also, it takes a bit of effort to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Time Saver
I was really impressed with how easy this french fry cutter was to use.All of the pieces were cleanly and uniformily cut.Sure a time saver over cutting by hand. Was easy to wash & clean. ... Read more

Sometimes overlooked as a valuable kitchen tool, tongs serve a variety of kitchen duties: tossing salads, flipping cutlets in a frying pan, snagging stubborn pickles from a jar, and more. These tongs are constructed of brushed stainless steel for easy cleaning and durability. A locking mechanism closes the tongs for easy storage, and provides a large loop for hanging. The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands, while providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material as dishwasher gaskets are constructed of, the handles are slip-proof, wet or dry, as well as dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful kitchen tool - solid construction and handy!
OXO makes good gear and this set of tongs is both comfortable and built well. The plastic handle keeps the end from getting too hot when stirring pasta or other work where it's exposed to heat for a long time.
5-0 out of 5 stars great tongs very well made
very well made the lock is metal witch on other tongs wears out and they will not lock properly after three or so months of

5-0 out of 5 stars Proctor Silex Food Chopper
My second one.Perfect for that small chopping job.Makes chicken salad, turkey salad, egg salad, ham salad, shrimp salad and tuna salad sandwiches tast better being ground up finer than cutting with a knife.

5-0 out of 5 stars a very convenient food processor
I got this food processor in order to make pesto sauce.I'm sure it will work will salsa and bruschetta, as well. It's the perfect size, dishwasher safe (blade, cup, and lid), and it chops very cleanly. It's so easy to use and store since it's so small. For making just a little bit of pesto, maybe just a quarter cup, it would really be annoying to have to take out and clean a larger food processor. But this food chopper is the perfect size for such a small amount...or anything up to 1 cup, 1 1/2 cups really.I'm really glad I bought this...and it was just the right price. No need to get a larger, clumsy, and more expensive larger food processor that won't get used as often.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
It's fast to use. I can chop half an onion (or more if I wanted), which is exactly what I need for one day.I can mix fruits and yogurt for a dessert for me. I used to use it to pure food for my baby.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very, very sharp
The design of this peeler is excellent. It's easy to grip, and you can reverse or replace the blade. But what really counts is the blade is sharp! Razor sharp! It works so easily it doesn't feel as if you're actually cutting. It comes with a plastic shield for the blade. I suggest you keep it and use it when you store the peeler to preserve that marvelous edge.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a very good peeler
I used it to peel an apple, and it worked great!I didn't know that peelers could do that.It is very well made, and very sharp.I would expect it to last maybe 20 years based on my twice a week or so usage.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
This is simply the best peeler we've ever owned, in both quality of manufacture and ease of use.You can't go wrong here. ... Read more
