Editorial Review

Something about the gurgling action of this 10-cup capacity coffeemaker produces a heady aroma that will bring all coffee lovers running with their mugs. This sleek hour-glass-shaped model comes with all the amenities: a sure-grip handle on the carafe, a pause-and-serve feature for mid-brew pouring, a push-button release for the swing-out filter basket, a removable gold-tone screen filter (or, use a No. 4 paper filter), a water-level indicator, and a 2-hour automatic shutoff. What really makes coffee from this machine taste better is the replaceable Brita water filter; it significantly reduces chlorine and prevents calcification (scale) buildup. A handy dial acts as a reminder to replace the filter every two months, or simply install the space compensator if the filter is not desired. All removable parts of the coffeemaker are dishwasher-safe. This Braun product measures 13 by 10 by 7 inches, and is covered by a one-year warranty against defects. Read more

Features

  • 10-cup capacity with easy-to-read water-level indicator
  • Brita water filter for better tasting coffee; 2-hour auto shut-off

3-0 out of 5 stars Seems excellent... but cheaply made.
I bought this coffee maker for my dad for Christmas. It made excellent tasting coffee, and was very easy and simple to use - especially for someone who has a hard time figuring out new gadgets & electronics.
1-0 out of 5 stars weak coffee; brews too fast
I agree that this coffee maker brews coffee too fast. For 6 cups of coffee I need to use 6 heaping tbsp of coffee, where in my previous coffee maker I could get by with 3 or so.My wife also noticed that the coffee was very weak the first time she used this coffee maker. So maybe we'll use it just when we have company, but for now I guess I'll keep using the free 4-cupper that I got with Gevalia coffee several yrs ago.
1-0 out of 5 stars QC getting worse at Braun
My last one (same model) was good. This one, the auto shut-off just buzzes and doesn't shut off. ... Read more

Employing a stainless-steel vacuum carafe instead of a warmingplate, this 1,200-watt coffeemaker brews up to ten 5-ounce cups in just8 minutes for maximum flavor and aroma, and the carafe then keeps thecoffee hot for 4 hours. The carafe prevents coffee from turning bitter,as it can when sitting on a warming plate, and doesn't have to remainwith the machine for coffee to stay hot. To reduce calcification,Capresso's stainless-steel ThermoBlock system prevents water fromcontacting aluminum inside the machine. Other features: a digital, programmable, 24-hour clock/timer that makes it possible to have coffeeready in the morning; an automatic pause when the carafe is removedduring the brewing process for a quick pour; a charcoal water filter toremove up to 83 percent of the chlorine in tap water; an electronicindicator to show when the water filter needs replacing; a setting forbrewing three to five cups without diluting flavor and aroma; apermanent Gold Tone filter; automatic shutoff after brewing; anexternal water-level indicator; and concealed cord storage.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Yikes!
I read the reviews before buying this coffeemaker and disregarded the ones about it overflowing as fluks or that the users didn't follow the instructions. That was a mistake. I read the instructions. It overflowed everytime I used it. I returned it. Save yourself the trouble and pass on this machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nearly perfect
Capresso's MT-500 is as close to a perfect coffemaker as I have tried. Coffee is brewed quickly and with much taste and aroma. The thermal pot holds heat for several hours reducing the need to make multiple pots during the day. Savings in coffee, filters and spring water should pay for the Capresso in time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not brainless ease of use... but superb coffee
I have owned the MT-500 for about two months and am completely happy with the coffee it is capable of brewing. The water brewing temperature is exactly right on my machine (195 degrees F) and the brew time is OK, if just slightly long (about 5.5 minutes for the full pot of"10" cups - 1.6 liters). I will admit that it took me a while to find the correct brewing proportion of coffee / water. In the end I use 75 grams of medium roast drip grind for the full pot. If I use any more coffee than this the brew basket will overflow and it makes a mess. SO... be warned that this machine takes a little patience and experimentation to master but the results are outstanding. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The Chambord is Bodum’s original coffee press design, which the company began to mass produce in 1982 after acquiring a small factory in Normandy where craftspeople made these presses by hand. Bodum takes great care to instill the same quality in craftsmanship, and the result, according to coffee purists, is a brewing machine that produces a taste and aroma superior to any electric coffeemaker. The secret is that the grounds are able to steep in boiling water for about 4 minutes before they are pressed with the plunger, producing a richer, full-bodied flavor. The glass carafe on this Chambord model holds a maximum of 48 ounces or 12 cups of brewed coffee or tea, making it a useful size for entertaining or for all-day-long drinkers. The chrome-plated brass frame and lid and stainless-steel plunger are durable and will hold up to years of brewing. For easy cleaning, the carafe and all its parts go right into the dishwasher. Replacement parts are available from the manufacturer. Read more

Features

  • Brews 48 ounces of coffee; retains beans' oils for rich, complex flavor
  • Sturdy, chrome-plated brass frame; easy-to-clean glass carafe
  • Stainless-steel press mechanism; replacement parts available
  • Turn lid to close spout; not for stovetop use
  • All parts are dishwasher-safe

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Coffee Pot!
A friend introduced me to French Press, so I had to share with my husband. I've always been a tea drinker, but this is an awesome way to drink coffee! We brew a whole pot, 12 cups, and will drink iced coffee for the rest of the day. The design is simple, easy to clean, and beautiful to just sit on the counter. I just wish I could figure out a better way to deal with the coffee grounds! They go straight into the garden - right from the pot!

5-0 out of 5 stars Why not?
--If you have tried french press before and are looking for a good one, there is no reason to look elsewhere.I have not tried any other models but Bodum has a great reputation and it works as advertised.I have had mine a year and never broken anything and it works great. My understanding is that the only other real option is with a thermal carafe that keeps the coffee hot longer but you don't want this as far as I understand. The reason is that in a french press, the coffee (if not poured right away) keeps on getting extracted as it sits there. There should be nothing needed to keep warm if you are serving right away.

Standing handsomely on its stay-cool base, this big coffeemaker is ideal for a buffet line, office, or any other situation where a lot of people drink a lot of coffee. That's when the light goes on and the spigot shows off its no-drip capacity, perfect for spotless cup-and-saucer use. Lifting the spigot provides a continuous flow for filling coffee servers. 5-0 out of 5 stars watch out - the sizes are confusing!
I really like my Bodum coffee presses - I have two sizes, and was delighted to see I could replace the beaker separately. But watch out if you order a replacement beaker. My small one holds 3 of what I think are ordinary cups, so I ordered the 3 cup replacement beaker by mistake. Looks like my small one is actually an 8 cup unit, and my big one (which hold 5 of my cups) is a 12 cup unit. There is no info on the Bodum itself of how big it is, so if you don't remember, it takes some guesswork to figure out whether you have a "3", "8", or "12" cup Bodum.

I wrote the following review in April 2005, comparing the Bunn MCP with the Senseo:
5-0 out of 5 stars Bunn MCP My Cafe Professional-Grade Single-Serve Coffee/Tea Machine
I tried almost all the coffee pod coffee makers. The Cafe Professional-Grade Single-Serve Coffee/Tea Machine is by far the best. Makes great coffee and tea. The coffee comes out hot, not warm like the others. You can use any coffee pod you want and you can select how strong or weak you want your coffee or tea. Don't forget the tea. a lot of machines don't make tea. You can even use regular store bought tea bags, just remove the tag. Cost more but well worth it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile Purchase
Had to turn in the first unit I bought for a replacement because a small plastic piece on the filter basket door broke, rendering the door useless. The replacement has worked fine, but I am very careful in swinging the door open.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great coffeemaker - too much bling.
And BEWARE THE "DUO FILTER". If you buy this device make sure you dig this bizarre contraption out of the box/coffeemaker before doing anything else. Its a long plastic thing that looks like an IUD and a filter packaged in a white plastic wrap. This is supposed to go into the water reservoir, although you wont find definitive instructions anywhere in the manual. (Arggghhh spit cuss!)
2-0 out of 5 stars Hot Plate and Air Bubble issues

5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift for the coffee/loose tea lover on your list!
I've purchased a total of 5 of these mugs now (different colors). They're well-constructed and attractive. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I've put 3 aside for Christmas gift giving. I think they're uniquely perfect for that person who seems to have everything, without spending a fortune to achieve that "Wow!" factor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for real Tea lovers !
Great invention! I drink mostly loose teas, gave up coffee some time ago. Because of work and being "Mom", I spend a lot of time in my car.I have tried several travel presses and most of them don't trap all of the leaves under the press, especially leaves that unroll as they steep. This is the most practical travel mug that I've ever seen and the storage compartment is absolutely great for carrying extra loose tea for those all day meetings.I ordered one for my desk and one for those long car trips. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT. Works great. Highly recommend.
We have had this about six months. Already own a burr grinder..but heck waking up to a fresh pot, not having to measure bean (just fill and it grinds what it wants. What is not to like?
5-0 out of 5 stars Luv this coffeemaker~!!
This coffeemaker is so well worth the price~!!It makes great coffee and I like that you don't have to add beans every day~!!Too bad it doesn't come in different colors.Highly recommended~!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Poor. I mean pour.
I've had this model coffemaker at work for a couple of years, and so I placed it on my registry and got it as a wedding gift. As far as grind and brew goes, this one is mostly good, but falls short in a few respects.

3-0 out of 5 stars fast cup of joe, but 1/2 of it ends up spilling on counter
this coffee maker is acceptable in terms of size, quickness of brew, temperature, and appearance.however, 75% of the time, regardless of angle of pour, speed of pour, or alignment of the planets, this sucker is impossible to pour without dribbling.

3-0 out of 5 stars I hate loving this one.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. My two year old Mr. Coffee had blown some gaskets and was leaking everywhere. I had a coupon and bought this at a fair price in Dec 2004. I love the job it does brewing but hated the carafe immediately. Guess what? The Mr. Coffee carafe fits just fine. There do seem to be some circuit problems over time. After eighteen months, I had mine apart to look. It needs a relay but I kick it and it chatters back and yields another pot. Aside from the carafe issues, I liked this one a lot but it is time to move on once again. I'm sorely tempted to buy another. I guess I'll look for warranty and sales slip paperwork but for a dollar a month, it was a trooper that did its duty. The carafe from four cup Mr. Coffee fits, so if you are having issues, the replacement MC carafes are pretty cheap.I may have cooked the relay by cycling the hot plate back on too often. It rides on a cute little circuit board inside that could be replaced in ten minutes. I may just bypass all that and make it soldier on by making it plug and play.

3-0 out of 5 stars Take it or leave it
I selected this item because the black base and stainless steel carafe matched nicely with my other kitchen appliances. I also figured the stainless steel carafe would be more durable than a glass one. Now that I've got it though, its a bit bothersome not to be able to see the amount of coffee in the carafe without removing the lid. Although its less likely to dribble when pouring than my previous coffee maker, you can't pour out the last spoonful or so of coffee without holding it upside down and shaking it. Its also more awkward to fill the reservoir and to see how full it is than with my previous maker. Its too bad they don't make that model anymore. I've been using it for about a month now and other than the nuisances I've already described, its worked fine and appears to be solidly built. Still, I can take it or leave it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dunno if it's microwaveable, but I microwaved it anyway
I picked up one of these from a trash pile in college (American college students tend to throw away a lot of perfectly good stuff at the end of the year) and had it for two years until I accidentally whacked it against a wall. During that time it performed quite well. I used to take out the metal plunger and heat water in the microwave in the glass/plastic body. The plastic seemed to hold up all right.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my most used kitchen items
First off, make sure you notice in the writing above that while this is called a 3 cup press, it does not make 3 US cups.It makes 1.5 US cups. This is a sip or two more than will fit in most of my mugs and hence is exactly the amount of coffee I want since my husband can't stand coffee. If you were wanting this to make a mug each for two people though, you won't be happy with this little guy and need to look at the bigger models.

This polished aluminum coffeemaker brews coffee and then lets brunch guests or executives at a breakfast meeting serve themselves. The coffeemaker brews up to 30 cups of coffee and averages about one cup per minute in brewing time. For accurate filling, the urn has water level markings on its interior. The coffeemaker has a red serving light that illuminates when brewing is complete and the coffee is ready to pour. The two-way faucet pours easily and is dripless. An automatic temperature control keeps coffee warm as long as it is plugged into an outlet. For safety from burns, the filter basket has a cool tip and the handles, base, and lid are all heat-resistant. Additionally, the coffeemaker’s cover twists to lock, ensuring that accidental spilling will not occur. The coffeemaker comes with a detachable cord for easy storage. This appliance is covered by West Bend under a 1-year warranty. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Maybe I did something wrong, but...
Everyone else seems happy with this thing, but I have been very dissappointed. No matter how I scour and wash the inside of this urn, I am always left with a gritty, oily deposit on the bottom. When I refill the urn with water and heat it (I use it only for hot water, not coffee), I get an oily film on the water. It is unuseable and I will have to replace it.For what it's worth, I do not get these deposits or oily surface on the same tap water when boiled in a regular kettle.Avoid this product!

Editorial Review

Made in Italy, this 1,250-watt machine eliminates the fuss of creating espresso and espresso drinks at home by automating the entire process. With the push of a button, the machine grinds coffee beans without burning them, tamps the ground coffee into the brew group, brews a cup of espresso, and then dumps the spent grounds into a container--all in about 30 seconds. For creating a cappuccino or latte, there's a hot water/steam wand with a milk-frothing attachment, and there's only a 10-second delay from brewing to steaming. A button selects one or two cups, a knob adjusts cup size up to 10 ounces. For safety, the machine shuts off if the grinder runs out of beans or the water tank is empty (control-panel lights indicate specific problems).Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Good coffee but bad workmanship
The machine is easy to use and makes great espresso ... when it's working!Mine broke down within the first year.I spent $80 dollars to fix it the first time, but it broke down again after another two months of use (water wouldn't heat up).It would cost me another $200 to fix it.I'm now looking for a more reliable machine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny paid!
Bottom line...worth the $500.Bought it here for $540 and got $25 off which covered the $30.00/3 year full replacement warranty from Amazon.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great value for your money
I bought this machine not from Amazon but from another place, but this machine paid for itself within months. No more frustrations at waiting in line at one of the over priced chain coffee shops and getting a bad drink at the end of the wait.

1-0 out of 5 stars Keeps coffe hot--that's its only advantage--poor performance and quality.
Purchased the unit about 6 months ago and have never been happy with it. The heating plate under the pot started to rust; the pot leaks every time it's poured; it's almost impossible to pour water into the water chamber without spilling it; the handle of the coffee basket broke within a few months; and two days ago the entire top of the unit snapped off when we opened it to pour in the water. We purchased this unit because of the Cuisinart brand and the stainless steel carafe. We will not purchase another.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some flaws worth considering
I've had this for about 9 months and I don't think I've ever quite liked it. I'm shocked to read that some people think it doesn't brew hot enough. My warmer plate runs so hot that by about the time the carafe has enough coffee for a cup's worth, it has already made the coffe almost hot enough to boil. I always have to wait 5-10 minutes after pouring myself a cup before I can drink it. I never had this problem with my old black n decker.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best lil red coffee maker!!!
I love my Cuisinart 4 cup coffeemaker with stainless steel carafe.I chose the red and it looks so sharp in my kitchen.Makes wonderful coffee.I always get compliments on how my coffee tastes so good.I will get another one if this one ever wears out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee.Maker......Thanks B&D
I have been a big fan of B&D Spacesaver CoffeeMaker since the first one came out. I was so happy they came out with the product again. I look over all these reviews prior to my new purchase of the Black & Decker ODC440B SpaceMaker? 12- Cup Under-The-Counter Coffee Maker. I really took the comments with a grain of salt since I am so familiar with the product. I just got my CoffeeMaker today and as always it is Great! There is nothing wrong with this design. Some people just don't know how to make coffee or how to pull a pot off the warming tray. Everything locks in place. The resivoir has a release button so it won't pull out unless you click the button and the gind cup locks in place too. No leaks just a great cup of coffee. My husband and I couldn't wait for this product to come back. We are very pleased. It makes the best coffee and is really attractive in the black. The mounting system works fine too just gotta know how to use a screw driver. Thank You B&D.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Owned it and made coffee for three months, then for no reason I can figure it quit working. Will not buy another.

1-0 out of 5 stars Defective need a replacement
I tried to contact NowOnSale to replace this defevtive product on 7/17, but my email was rejected by their site,I have been on vacation until yesterday and this is the first opportunity that I had to write to you.Imediately after brewing a pot, the unit shuts down completely as though a circuit breaker was opened.the display disappears completely.I have checked the circuit and all is well.I plugged the unit into a surge protector with the same result.I replaced the surge protector with no luck. The only way to energize the unitis to unplug or turn off the surge protector for about a minute, and then turn it back on.The clock then needs to be reset, anfd then the unit can be energized to turn on the hot plate to keep the coffee warm.I spoke with Black and Decker on 7/17, and they advised me to contact you for a replacement. Please send the same unit in Black, and thr RA to return the defective one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth it!
After trying the 12 cup Cuisinart, a Delonghi and 2 different Krups models we have fallen in love with this one. The water level indicator may be a slight drawback but since since we fill the coffeemaker from the pot it's no problem for us.
3-0 out of 5 stars Poor Water Level Indicator Design
I purchased this coffee maker and had to return it before trying the coffee it makes.
5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT TASTING COFFEE
I HAVE HAD SOME BAD EXPERIENCES WITH COFFEE MAKERS LATELY.HOWEVER THIS COFFEE POT IS NOT ONE OF THEM. IT MAKES WONDERFUL COFFEE. I HAVE BEEN USING THE GOLD TONE FILTER LOVE IT. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE OR NOT.DOES NOT LEAK. NO DRIP DECANTER HOWEVER COVER ON IT A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO GET ON AND OFF. APPEARS TO BE WELL BUILT I HAVE HAD IT ONLY A MONTH. WHEN DECANTER IS FULL IT IS FAIRLY HEAVY BUT FULL OF GOOD TASTING COFFEE. IF YOU ARE A COFFEE-FANATIC YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.STAY AWAY FROM STAINLESS STEEL MR. COFFEE. THIS IS THE ONE YOU NEED.SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY SOME THINGS YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. ... Read more

We are on our second Mr. Coffee AR5 4-Cup Switch Coffeemaker, Black. Both leak water onto our counter. No reponses to my emails to Mr Coffee 'nonsupport'.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tea Pot Too
Got the 4-cup for my kids who come to visit grandpa. Read the reviews and was prepared for drips and leaks. Have had none. Love this thing; makes great coffee. Best of all I now use it constantly for making my tea. Two tea bags in the resivoir and you are good to go. With the paper filter I use my loose leaf teas as well. And they turn out less bitter than when I brew manually. Not to mention Mr Coffee is much faster than the tea kettle on the stove. I would rate this a 7 if I could.
