This high-temperature thermometer takes the guesswork out of deep-frying chicken, doughnuts, and french fries or making jelly, fudge, or butterscotch. An adjustable clip on the insulated handle secures the thermometer to a pan. Made of stainless steel with a shatterproof plastic lens, the thermometer measures 12 inches long overall and is dishwasher-safe. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well-crafted thermometer
This thermometer is perfectly designed, with the bulb sitting far enough away from the bottom to give a proper reading. The metal backing makes it very sturdy. The clip can be used to affix it vertically to a pot, or just to prop it up slanted in a smaller pot.
5-0 out of 5 stars good
I had been making fudge and doing the water method to determine if it was in the soft stage and let me tell you. This thermometer is the way to go. No guessing. When it reaches 240 degrees which it is also mark 'soft stage', I know it's time to remove from the heat. It has all kinds of markings on it next to the degree markings. Extremely helpful.I like the idea that it has an adjustable clamp on it to fit any depth size pan. The glass tip of the thermometer is about 1/2" higher than the metal framing to prevent the tip from touching the bottom of the pan. This is a pretty big thermometer. Approx. 8" high. Very sturdy and good quality made. You can see why some people have had these for years and years. Highly recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelllent thermometer
I purchased this thermometer to replace the one my mother (who has always loved to make candy) has used for the last 40 years. It was the same thermometer. She broke it, or it would still be going another 40. Most companies don't even last that long, much less their products. ... Read more

Turn out perfect candies, jelly, and caramelized sugar with this stove-top thermometer by CDN. Made of stainless steel with durable laboratory glass, the thermometer precisely measures temperature with a non-mercuric column in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, from 75 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (25 to 200 degrees Celsius). Excellent also at monitoring hot oil for deep frying doughnuts, onion rings, and other foods, the thermometer can be attached firmly to the side of any size fry vat or candy pan with its stainless-steel clip, while the plastic handle stays cool to the touch. Highlighted sections of the thermometer show the best temperatures for different candy stages, specifically thread, soft ball, firm ball, hard ball, soft crack, hard crack, and caramel. An exclusive safety shield at the bottom protects the glass bulb from breakage. Measuring 12 inches in length, the thermometer should be allowed to cool before carefully washed by hand, and should never be placed on a cool surface when hot. A five-year warranty covers the thermometer against defects.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Correcting mis-information
I'm not sure how K Ma gets fudge to set - but fudge is cooked to 234-240F.Having just been making fudge today - I cooked mine in that range and it came out wonderful. BTW - the chocolate goes in AFTER the sugar/milk/butter mixture is brought up to temperature.
5-0 out of 5 stars i love it when blame product for their own fault :)
I'm not aware of a chocolate fudge/pudding that you'd heat up to 225.you don't heat chocolate by itself past 110, and you don't heat egg product past 160, at which point protein completely coagulates...
1-0 out of 5 stars Completely Ineffective Candy Thermometer
When I bought this item I attempted to test it in hot water. My only comparison was another grocery store thermometer which wasn't accurate. It appeared to register better than the grocery store model. However, when using it to make chocolate fudge, by the time it registered 225 degree's, the fudge was thickening in the pan, not a pretty sight.I used it correctly and it has been stored according to manufacturers direction. It has a 5 year Limited Warranty for replacement.I don't feel it's worth the trouble to send back as I don't want another of this brands products, ever. It's going in the garbage as I attempt to find an accurate, well calibrated candy thermometer. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars very annoyed!
I bought this thermomter after watching Goods Eats with Alton Brown, because when I make buttercream frosting I wanted to be able to clip on the thermometer to the pot and get an accurate reading. Well this themometer did a lousy job at staying clipped onto the pot, it kept falling off no matter how I put it on. I even tried using other pots, but no luck. I am so mad that I paid so much money for this crappy gadget, it sucks!

1-0 out of 5 stars Great ... as long as it worked
I used this thermometer fewer than 10 times before it stopped working. For the most part, it no longer registers any temperature, and when it does it reads 75-100 degrees too cool. While it was working, I definitely preferred it to my analog candy thermometer because it was less bulky, but I certainly can't recommend it now.
1-0 out of 5 stars Well made unit that suffers from a fatal design flaw
This seems to be a well made product, and if not for one tremendous flaw I could somewhat recommend it.

This thermometer gives completely inaccurate readings unless you have at least the first 1.5 inches in the food.If any part of that sensor area is exposed to air, the reading will be way low.

Overcooked roast beef is a thing of the past with this handy 3-in-1 digital device. The timer can be set to go off when the meat reaches a desired internal temperature; the 7-inch stainless-steel probe stays in the roast during cooking, with the oven door closing right over the flexible 39-inch cable. The digital thermometer/timer is also useful for candy-making: the clip attaches the probe to the side of a saucepan, and again, the alarm can be programmed to sound after a certain number of minutes or when a particular temperature is reached. Different sounds for the timer and thermometer alarms avoid confusion. Read more

Features

  • Digital thermometer, timer, and clock magnetically attaches to oven
  • Probe with 39-inch cord stays in meats during roasting
  • Saucepan clip keeps probe in candy mixture for careful monitoring

  • Temperature range 14 to 392 degrees Fahrenheit (¿10 to 200 degrees Celsius)

1-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous
I attempted to use this thermometer to carefully monitor the temperature of a pot of shortening for frying doughnuts. By the time the reading indicated 250F, the oil was severely smoking. Fortunately, I aborted heating any further to curtail the possibility of a loss of human life in this preparation. Using another thermometer (thank you Taylor), I discovered that the pyrex was incorrect by more than 150F. Seems exceptionally poor in qualitiy but exceptionally profound in functional negligence.
1-0 out of 5 stars A cup of cold water more precise...
I purchased the Robinson Pyrex Candy Thermometer as a replacement for my old, cheap tube thermometer that was giving off readings.
1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Candy Thermometer
The only positive thing I can say about this candy thermometer is that the design allows it to stay on the sauce pan relatively well.Other than that, it is difficult to discern temperatures between the 0 - 50 marks. Also, it tends to read low so that the candy is much warmer than the read out indicates.Since using this thermometer, I have ruined more batches of fudge than I care to think about. If you want a good candy thermometer, don't buy this one. ... Editorial Review

Fondant, fudge, and fries are more likely to attain perfection when made with a candy and deep frying thermometer such as this one from OXO. Sturdy stainless-steel construction means the thermometer won’t be harmed by hot oil splatters, while a secure pot-clip prevents slippage. Calibrated for accuracy, the 3-inch-wide, easy-to-read dial displays a temperature range of 100 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, with markings for soft ball, firm ball, hard ball, soft crack, and hard crack candy, as well as zones for caramelizing and deep frying. To use, a sliding red indicator on the rim is set at the desired temperature; when the thermometer needle lines up with the indicator, the food is ready. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible product. It doesn't register correct temperature.
Actually zero stars. It doesn't give the right temperature. It showed 250 when temperature of fat for fried chicken was 350 according to Taylor Instant Read Digital Thermometer. I just threw it in the garbage. This is a terrible product. Shame on Oxo for distributing it. Their products are usually excellent.

1-0 out of 5 stars USELESS--VERY ANGRY CUSTOMER
I usually like Oxo products, but this one is a real loser. Not only does it not give accurate readings (which in itself should deem it useless, being that it is a THERMOMETER after all) but there are other features that further enhance its horrible design. First of all, the "handy" (so they claim) spin dial that allows you to set the temperature that you want to reach, is so flimsy that the slightest movement of the thermometer throws the dial off. Useless. Secondly, after only one handwashing, water seeped under the dial face which is impossible to get out. The water then turns to steam which fogs up the display so you can't even read its inaccurate readings. 2 weeks later there is STILL steam under the dial. Useless again. And to pour salt on my already stinging wound, I had emailed Oxo to inquire about how to return this item and get a refund weeks ago, but they have yet to respond to me, even though on the package it states that satisfaction is 100 percent guaranteed. Well, I am NOT a satisfied customer and if my second attempt to reach them proves fruitless once again, then I doubt I will ever purchase another Oxo product again, no matter how good they are. It pains me to even give this product one star, as a product that's utterly useless deserves no star at all. Oxo should be ashamed of themselves. Thanks for allowing me to vent my 2 cents.

1-0 out of 5 stars worthless

Editorial Review

First-rate in all respects, this instant-read digital thermometer is ideal for food-service professionals but can serve household cooks as well. Because it's digital, you don't need to insert it deeply for an accurate reading--just 1 inch will do--and the reading is updated every 2 seconds. Its extra-wide temperature range is -58 to 500 degrees F (-50 to 260 degrees C), with a switch to select Fahrenheit or Celsius. Buttons recall maximum/minimum temperatures, and the memory persists even when the thermometer is turned off. The slim, 4-3/4-inch probe is stainless steel, and the flat, durable polycarbonate case won't roll off a counter. The thermometer operates on a replaceable watch battery (included), and can be recalibrated for long-life precision. The pen-holder pocket case has a loop that slides onto the probe, converting the case into a handle for safely checking high-temperature foods. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Battery cover fell off and I lost battery in the grill.
I was initially satisfied with the operation of the thermometer, but when I first used it at the grill, the battery cover came off and I lost the battery into the gas grill. The battery cover was not made well and doesn't stay on.I got a new battery, but I must say that after taping the thing together, it just makes me mad to look at it...I would send it back to Taylor, but I lost the address.
