Junk
The blender can't handle occasional ice crushing at all.Not worth the money.

Could be better
I've had this blender for one year. It is still working but not as well as when I bought it. The pulse button stopped working after 6 months which is also the off button. I turn off the machine by partially hitting one of the other buttons. The liquify button doesn't pop up all the way when not in use and this is the speed I always use. I'm waiting for this one to break also. I do use this item 5 times a week to blend frozen banana slices, frozen blueberries, frozen shredded carrots and milk for two people. It takes a while and half the time I have to stick a spoon in there to move things around when it won't blend. At its highest speed it can get bogged down and isn't very powerful. It worked much better when I first got it and I'm waiting for it to break. What I don't understand is that people talk about having a blender for 20 years. Blenders today must be perceived as a disposible item by the manufacturers and built much cheaper. Why else are we replacing them so frequently. Considering I use mine almost daily, I need to find another one that is better made.

Good value for the money
I have had this blender for a month now. I have not used it for heavy stuff like crushing ice, but I can see it can handle it well. Worth The Money
This is a very good unit, my wife and I use it several times a week and when friends are over.We only use it for frozen Margarita's and its never failed us.My wife says it needs to have a Bigger container when you are serving up three or four at a time, and the tap drips, other than that its a bargain.

Not "elite"
This has been used twice.The first time I used it, it made a great smoothie.I tried to use it this past Independence day and the "pulse" stopped and started continuously.After a while, something smelled like it was burning.On the bottom, there appears to be lots of specks of metal.Don't think I'll be buying a new one.

Broke!

Similar problem as the first reviewer..
The blender I received also smelled as if it was overheating and the tachometer did not work. I am sending it back and will be asking for a refund. This clearly is not a reliable blender.

I love my L'equip!
It does everything I need it to and more! I'm a raw foodist so I don't need something that will "cook" foods like some of the other high-powered blenders will. However, if that's what you need one for, this will do that, too. The L'equip is the only blender I have ever used without the lid (not advised for households with children). I can start it out at a crawl and go up to blindingly fast with a turn of the knob. I liked my original one so much that I bought one to have at the office so my green smoothies could be made fresh for lunch. Alton Brown was showing off his appliances on "Good Eats" and he has a L'equip, too. Made me feel famous!

OK for the price~ nothing to rave about
I purchased this blender off of Amazon because of the good reviews it received, which I can usually rely on, but not so much this time.
Great product for the price
I use to have the Black & Decker ProBlend and it broke after the second use because it could not handle the ice. This one is VERY good and blends anything I put in it, including ice. It is very strong for how light and simple it is and has never leaked. Anyone who gave this a low rating must have a defective unit or missing the gasket. The only negative I can find is that it occassionally has a burning electronics smell if I let it run to long after the ice is turned into a smoothie texture. I think it is because the motor stops having resistance and speeds up too much. This has only happened twice in the several times I have blended ice and only on high speeds.

Best blender ever!
We LOVE this blender. I've never had a blender with power before, I guess, but this one will take a beet or a carrot and chop it up just like it's oatmeal or something. It makes awesome shakes and I use it to chop or puree lots of everything else as well.

This is a good blender with lots of power. I was happy to junk my 12-speed Hamilton-Beach when i got this puppy. (If you've seen recent episodes of Good Eats on Food Network, this is one of the blenders Alton Brown uses.)

Love the concept but the hardware needs some work
I have loved my smoothie Elite for over a year. I have used it over and over again regardless of its issues. Several things I don't like about are: You have to turn the power on (pulse)if you want the spout to pour. The rubber teeth on the bottom are not rugged enough and have been stripped or broken off rendering my smoothie maker useless. I looked on line to see if I could buy spare parts but can't find any.

Nice Concept - Poor Execution
I agree with the other reviewers; had the machine for a couple weeks, after 5 uses the machine didn't sit right on the base, causing the teeth between the base and the container to grind a bit.After that, it was all downhill.The base teeth were completely ground down within 2 uses.Interestingly, the new back to basics smoothie machines seem to have a better locking mechanism, and teeth that seem to be made of more durabe material.

Smoothie Smoke Maker
We thought we would give the smoothie elite another chance after our previous model broke when the pitcher fell on the floor.Making smoothies is great so long as you do not use alot of ice.One you add a full pitcher of ice it becomes a smoke machine and the rubber/plastic gear shread and make smoke.Now after 3 pitchers of margaritas we said adios to smoothies elite since the gears are gone!!!I think we should all file a class action suit for this junk machine. ... Best blender for a guy
I've had this blender in black for 3 years with no problems.And for a guy, I like the functionality.Speed settings are slow... or fast.Nothing like, puree, frappe, stir, mix.Just slow... or fast.Pretty simple.I've crushed frozen fruits.Blade still looks good.But I just chipped the glass jar at the bottom.Now it won't seal.That surprised me.Maybe the glass isn't as tough as it feels.But still a great blender.Except I bought mine...in the store, on sale.

HATE IT
We used this blender maybe 5 times before the metal piece that makes the blade turn broke off. It's cheaply made and do not suggest this product to anyone. We havent had any luck with Oster products.We returned the blender twice and the same thing happend both times.

Great blender
This blender does its job very well. I can drop frozen fruit, ice, and fruit juice to make a smoothie indistinguishable from smoothie shops. Although the manual says that the blender isn't designed to crush ice, I've had no problems with adding uncrushed ice to whatever I'm blending.
