Perfect Little Dish!

Cracked the First Time They Were Used
Although these are rated for use in an oven up to 500 degrees, mine cracked the first time I used them in an oven (which was only set to 375 degrees).They are pretty thin (not much thicker or heavier than dinner plates, really), so don't inspire a lot of confidence when you hold them.So really they should get zero stars.But if you don't plan to use them in the oven, but just as serving dishes they would be cute. ... As good as can be!
These au gratins are great for one or two servings and their flattish, open design allows the contents to cook and sizzle and be displayed in the most appetizing way.Well made and relatively easy to clean, they fit in my toaster oven as well.

Another New Apple Dish for the Collector!
This Franciscan Apple Dinnerware Cookware Oval Gratin is a beautiful piece to add to your collection or to mix-and-match with another pattern of dinnerware. The handpainted Apple design on the inside of this dish is so lovely that it almost seems a shame to cover it up. Nevertheless, this gratin is very versatile--you can use it to bake your favorite au gratins (but don't use too a high temperature or put it under the broiler). I will display mine on an open shelf in my kitchen and use it as a serving dish for informal dining. I think the "Gratin" name for this dinnerware refers more to the traditional gratin shape of the dish rather than to its use for baking au gratins.
