Editorial Review

A perfect gift for a home chef, Füri's Rachel Ray 3-piece knife set offers a handsome presentation as well as high-quality, functional tools. The set is named after the Food Network personality and includes both a 5-inch and a 7-inch Gusto Gripo East/West knife. With features of both a cook's knife and a vegetable chopper, the two make handy all-around tools that suit everyday kitchen jobs. The German stainless-steel alloy blades are crafted without seams and have been cut very thin then hardened and tempered, so the edges start out extremely sharp, maintain their razor sharpness longer, and hold up well for years of heavy use. For exceptional maneuverability, scallops along the blades help the knives move through food without sticking, and the forged bolsters and weighty tangs provide balance and strength. The contoured red handles provide a striking finish and fit comfortably in the palm. Enclosed in a natural bamboo box with a hinged lid and slots for the knives, these tools store safely and securely when they're not working hard. Best washed by hand to protect the edges, this set comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Read more

Features

  • 3-piece knife set includes 7- and 5-inch Gusto Grip East/West knives and bamboo case
  • Knives crafted from a single seamless piece of CrMoV German stainless-steel alloy
  • Hardened and tempered; forged solid bolsters and heavy tangs for enhanced strength
  • Ultra-thin blades with exceptionally sharp cutting edges; scalloped edges minimize friction
  • Hand washing recommended; limited lifetime warranty

5-0 out of 5 stars Life is easy with FURI
My boyfriend bought me the Furi Rachel Ray knives for xmas last year 2005. This knife set is so easy to use cutting whole chickens for roasting, onions, peppers, and potatoes with no effort making it easy on my wrist. I couldn't believe how smooth of a cut the knives generated after I went back to try my old knives. The bonus is the small knife that is included in the set, very good for small items like the ones in salads.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Knives w/Great Handles
These are my first real knives.I've been using them for about six months, and I LOVE them. They chop like a breeze, and the silicon handle doesn't slip even if your hands are covered with oil.The silicon is also applied such that food cannot get between it and the bolster or heel.
5-0 out of 5 stars happy slicing
The knives are amazing, really sharp, smooth cutting and easy to handle.Sorry I waited so long to purchase them.

Editorial Review

Tough polypropylene handles with full, visible tangs and thetraditional three rivets distinguish Classic knives from Wüsthof'sother cutlery lines. Otherwise Classic knives are identical to otherWüsthof knives, embodying all the virtues that have earned theGerman manufacturer world renown. The principal parts of a Wüsthofknife--blade, bolster, and tang--are forged from a single piece ofhigh-carbon stainless steel, and the blade is precisely tapered frombolster to tip and from back to hand-honed edge. The blades andbeautifully formed bolsters are not as thick as on some knives. As aresult, despite their heft, strength, and durability, Wüsthofknives are pleasingly delicate and marvelously balanced in action.Read more

  • Japanese-style cook's knife designed for chopping, slicing, dicing
  • Alternating hollows on blade's sides prevent food from clinging

5-0 out of 5 stars Knife Expert Approved; Multi-Functional and Durable
I am a stage performer as well as a chef. I specialize in contortion and throwing knives (often with my feet). I use the Wusthof so much in the kitchen, that I thought I would incorporate it into my act. I throw the knives at flying fruit and vegis and perform flips with knives between my toes and fling them at my assistants. Throwing knives are usually smaller, perfectly balanced, and forged from one solid piece. They require perfect tang as well and incredible strength. Wusthof is the ONLY high-end kitchen knife that meets these requirements.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great knife
Various cooking shows recommend this style knife and it is everything they say it is.It is excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible for the price
Most of my knives are Henckels and until this little gem arrived, my 8" chef and my 8" slicer got all the action. I don't have any other santoku knives so when I ran into this I decided that at that price it was worth a try. I'm glad I did because it's been my #1 all-around most-used knife since it arrived, and I do a lot of cooking - daily meals for my family of five, plus a weekly dinner party. Cuts veggies, even tomatoes, into perfect thin slices with no trouble. I even used it to filet an entire 12-lb salmon into steaks for freezing! It's well-made, sharp, and balanced - Quite a dandy little knife at the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Knife
Good knife, sharp, cuts well. However, I'm partial to the KitcheAidChef's Knife.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great out of the box
Previous comment about not being sharp did not apply here.I sliced a dead-ripe tomato paper-thin slices without even using my steel.

4-0 out of 5 stars As Easy to Use as Shown on Ms. Ray's Cooking Show
I have always been afraid of knives and tend to use them gingerly in the kitchen. However, this knife is very sturdy with a comfortable-to-hold handle. It is as easy to use as demonstrated on the 30 Minute Meals show.
5-0 out of 5 stars Furi Pro Rachel Ray 7-Inch Gusto Grip East/West Knife
This knife is as sharp as Rachel is cute... wonderful balance and cleans like a dream,SHARP !!!We have been using a japanese laminated kitchen knife for 20 + years and have never found a knife that could be as sharp. But it was getting tired, the handle had come loose and the blade was pitted because it was not a stainless base.
4-0 out of 5 stars Overall a good knife
I've been using this knife for several months now and find it to be a good all around knife. It's heavy enough to cut up chicken yet sharp enough to cut tomatoes. It is weighted somewhat differently and I often find that I have my finger on top of the blade when cutting extensively. I also like the "rounded" santoku since you can rock the blade or cut flat, whichever you prefer.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW what a knife!
I love it, love it love it! This is the best vegetable knife I ever had! It is absolutely wonderful! What else can I say?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great knife, great value, great gift
We love ours and use it constantly. It looks cool. Our friends are intrigued by it. We have bought several as gifts - they have all been very well appreciated. It's very sharp and easy to use. It's the best knife I've used to thinly slicing onions. For the price it's simply amazing. I wish thos company would introduce had a paring knife!

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable value.
I've had this knife for nearly about a year, purchased at the same time as a name brand chef's knife, which cost 5x more.I've used the Komachi much more often--twice daily, and it has kept its sharp edge much better than the other knife! So I give this 5 stars for function and price. It has become my favorite knife. When it finally goes, I won't hesitate to buy another one. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I wanted to love it, really I did
The Furi knives are well made, that is evident. And the rubberized handle provides a good, safe grip. But this little sucker just doesn't cut very well; the blade seemed dull right out of the box.I purchased the Furi sharpener and used it (and used it) but can't get the knife sharp. It's a shame because this little five incher would be wonderful for chopping all sorts of veggies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Knife
This is a great little knife!I have small hands and found this knife to be a great size that is easy to handle.I like that it has an orange handle, it makes it easy to find in my wood block.Others have said that it is poor quality, but I disagree. It may not be the same quality of a $100 knife, but look it is only $40.Overall it is a great addition to my kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Find At A Reasonable Price!A++
I just purchased this knife, having a larger Wustof Santoku Knife.I wanted this smaller knife to handle jobs that did not require the larger Santoku. This knife is simply wonderful; and despite other reviews about the orange handle, the ease of use makes up for the color. The handle is quite comfortable and the grip makes it easier to chop and cut without fatigue. It's easy to clean and the knife is as sharp as any of the other higher priced knives that I own such as Henckel's or Wustof's.Highly recommend!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My new best knife friend
Such a great bargain for such a sharp and practical knife. This outshines several older and more expensive cooking knives in our kitchen.
4-0 out of 5 stars Replaced my old chef's knife...
I reserve 5-stars for items that are mind-blowing in quality. This knife has replaced my original Chef's knife in the kitchen so I would say it comes pretty close to 5-stars. It is surprisingly light and balanced, but the weight seems mainly in the grip area. It is so sharp that my wife lopped off one of her fingernail tips accidentally. She has a greater respect for it now! The santoku has just enough curve in it to rock back and forth for finely mincing garlic if needed. Since the blade is so light, an experienced wielder can perform those rapid chopping motions with ease. I would say that my skills are not good enough to utilize this knife to its full potential. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite knife
as a cook at a well known nyc restaurant, i spend a minimum of 3 hours a day with a knife in my hand. over the years, i have used many brands and types of knives.I've owned german--wustof, messemiester and japanese--global and mac, but i find myself constanly reaching for this knife. it feels really comfortable in my hand.it's well balanced in is great for everything.if i could only own one knife, this would be it.I would also like to note that anyone with hand or wrist problems including arthritis should give this knife a try.i've had tendonitis from cooking and the ergonomic design of the hand has been a tremendous relief.at first it may feel a bit awkward, but it soon feels comfortable.i'm just a little embarrased now that it has the rachel ray print on the blade.that's not something you want seen in a professional kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you Rachael
This knife is the most outstanding piece of cutlery I have ever used in my life. I have given my "chef's knife" to Goodwill after I first used my "Rachael." More to the point my daughter has been a professional chef for almost 20 years, has prepared dinners for three President's of the United States, and has been an Executive Chef at two fine restaurants in the Middle Atlantic area, - she has tried my "Rachael" and I had a hard time keeping her from walking off with it. That will be a Chanukah present for her.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sharp, Perfectly Balanced, Great Feel
There is no shortage of expensive, high quality kitchen knives, but this is my favorite and the one I reach for most often. The steel is first grade excellent, it takes and holds a very sharp edge, and it feels like a natural extension of my hand. It also looks lovely. You can certainly spend more money, but a knife with these qualities is all you really need. ... Read more

VERY SHARP - do not touch the blade! I sliced a wafer of my skin. Wish it came with a sheath.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Knives
I bought a couple of these knives on a lark three years ago and have used them everyday to slice everything. I have never been disappointed, never.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good first Santoku for an aspiring cook!!
My husband and I love to cook! We decided we needed a good knife and we were not sure which one to buy but one thing we were sure about was the money we were going to spend. We were looking for something under $20 and while we were searching for one, we came across this. It sure was very promising! After doing a lot of research about what knives we wanted, we decided we need a sharp one with a scalloped edge and took a risk of buying this and so far we don't regret this!!

This 7-inch multi-use Santoku knife effortless handles any household kitchen cutting need--from chopping to dicing and slicing. 3-0 out of 5 stars Lighter than I expected but...
The first thing I noticed was the weight (or lack thereof) in the Grand Prix II 7" Santuko blade, it feels noticably lighter than my 6" Grand Prix Chef's knife. After using this knife however, I am very impressed with it's performance and feel. The Grand Prix II has a slightly different handle shape than the original Grand Prix but that is barely noticable. I find that the Santuko blade is excellent for large quantity chopping jobs, I can speed through veggies and meats in no time at all. A great addition to my Wusthof set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Go ahead. Live a little.
When my Wusthof Grand Prix II 7" Hollow Ground Santoku knife arrived from Amazon as a mid-year birthday present to myself, I tore open the packaging and immediately bonded with the high carbon no-stain steel beauty inside. The knife *gleamed*, was obviously surgically sharp and, for an intermediate cook who had been using a 1980s-era Chicago Cutlery chef's knife all her life, it was a bit...intimidating.
4-0 out of 5 stars Quick action, cheap handle
I am lucky enough to own three very beautiful blades: a Shun Santoku 7", the Wusthof Grand Prix II 7", and the Henckel 8".Of these three the Wusthof is my least favorite. The blade is somewhat thinner than the Shun, which may be a positive point for those who prefer lighter blades. The black plastic handle also contributes to a lighter weight. However, I personally prefer the heavier better quality steel of the Shun as well as the beautiful wooden handle.Makes for very satisfactory action on the cutting board--solid thunks.Of those three knives, the Henckel is by far my favorite. It is so incredibly versatile, nice quality materials, and the weight and length are perfect for very fast action using both hands. If you have a choice, I would definitely research Shun and Henckel. That said, the Wusthof is a wonderful knife and you should be very pleased with it.As I said, some of the things that I find less attractive about it may very well be a draw for others. It's a good quality blade and with proper care should last many years. If you've ever wondered what the fuss about knives was, then you really must borrow a nice knife for an evening of cooking. It makes all the difference. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars VERY DISAPPOINTED
I bought this knive about 6 months ago. When I first started using it it was great. After about 2 weeks it became so dull I had to throw it away. This knife can't be sharpened.I recently bought a better knife that can be sharpened and I am very happy with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stayed sharp for a couple days
I got a Pure Komachi Chef's Knife last year and enjoyed it the first couple times I used it.After that, the blade got dull and since you can't sharpen it, it became useless.I'm afraid there is no such thing as a "forever sharp" knife.I couldn't even cut a cherry tomato with the Komachi without having to saw through it.

Editorial Review

High tech from tip to handle, Global knives from Japan created a sensation when they burst onto the world's culinary stage as an alternative to traditional European-style cutlery. Blades are made of hard molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel and "face-ground" with a long taper rather than a short bevel so edges remain sharp longer than even the best high-carbon stainless-steel knives. Edges also are ground at a more acute angle than traditional European-style knives and arrive from the factory razor-sharp. Although Global also makes a "heavyweight" line for cooks who prefer hefty knives, its original knives--of which this 5-1/2-inch knife for precisely slicing and chopping vegetables is an example--have thinner blades and are lighter than traditional European-style knives. Global also dispensed with bolsters on its original knives to reduce weight. Balance is achieved by injecting a precise amount of sand for a particular blade style into a hollow handle. To ensure balance is continuous, the sand flows inside the handle as a blade is maneuvered. A finger notch between blade and handle provides safety. Read more

You can't go wrong with this knife.I use it almost as much as I use my 8 inch chef's knife. It holds an edge well, feels light in your hand, and has perfect ballance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy Crap, that's a good knife.
This knife has made me eat more vegetables, just because it's so much fun to chop carrots.I was a little concerned with the handle at first, but it's very comfortable, and isn't slick at all, even in soapy water.I also worried that maybe I should have gotten the bigger version of this knife.Again, my fears were unfounded, as this was the perfect size for vegetable preparation. You can't really describe the feeling of using the best tool for the job... but if you've ever had that feeling, you already know how you'll feel using a Global. When I slice carrots for snacks, they come out as perfect, translucent discs.Any vegetable I've cut has been a joy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super sharp, great medium size knife
I really like this knife for making thin slices of small to medium size veggies. However, I think this knife is a bit small for mincing onions and the side is too short for scooping like a cleaver (which is bad for your knife anyway). I still usually grab for this knife because its insanely sharp, light, and versatile because of its size. I can use it as to slice tomatoes, shred lettuce, and then dip it in the mayo jar. Perfect for making gourmet sandwiches. Great knife, worth every penny. I plan on getting a 7 1/2 inch Global vegetable cleaver/knife and a Shun 10" chef's as well. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Even though I have many knives I purchased this expecting it to be reliably superior. After a few uses it is less sharp than my otherknives, does not slice vegetables or fruits well and is quite a disappointment.

5-0 out of 5 stars perfect!
I love this knife. We've had ours for about ten years and we take it with us when we're going on trips and picnics. It is extremely useful for slicing meat, cheese and bread; for spreading butter and cream cheese; and for cutting and peeling fresh fruit and vegetables. The blade has remained sharped over the years and it's small enough that it easily slips into a picnic basket or a cooler. The sheath fits well so you don't have to worry about it becoming accidentally separated from the knife. It's easy to clean. It's perfect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sharpest Knife in the Drawer
This near-razor sharp little knife is a great kitchen or camp tool and a handy self defense item for a lady's purse or concealed carry: The built in plastic sheath has a friction fit that keeps the knife safe until it is extracted for use as a deep slashing or stabbing edged weapon or innocent looking apple slicer. ...

Edges are also ground at a more acute angle than traditional European-style knives and arrive from the factory razor-sharp. Although Global also makes a "heavyweight" line for cooks who prefer hefty knives, its original knives--of which this all-purpose 7-inch hollow-ground Santoku knife is an example--have thinner blades and are lighter than traditional European-style knives.Read more

The latest rage among kitchen professionals and serious home cooks, Asian knives combine light weight and maneuverability with a seriously sharp edge. This two-piece set contains the two knives essential to modern Asian-style cooking. The three-inch paring knife is ideal for small-scale tasks like peeling and trimming fruits and vegetables, while the seven-inch santoku knife combines characteristics of a Western chef’s knife and a Chinese cleaver. Great for chopping and dicing herbs or vegetables, the broad, straight blade also produces razor-thin and precise slices of sashimi, or any other fish, meat, or poultry. Oval-shaped indentations on each side reduce friction for a cleaner cut and help release food so that it falls away from the blade.Read more

  • Includes 3-inch paring knife and 7-inch santoku, a Japanese-style chef's knife
  • Forged high-carbon stainless steel blades for exceptional sharpness and rust and stain resistance

  • Ergonomically-designed, triple-riveted polymer handles are nonporous and ultra-hygienic

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! and a great bargain
Santoku knives are wonderful; easier to use on vegetables than a chef knife, at least in my hand. It took a bit of use to get the feel of, but I'm a believer.
1-0 out of 5 stars Hard to rate
This item was ordered 1/4/06 it is now 2/25/06 and has not yet been shipped. Hard to rate the item, but for sure you can see the rating for delivery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Kitchen Tool
I was curious about what a Santoku knife - a Japanese-style chef's knife - was all about, and bought this pair because in my mind $19.99 beats paying something like $195.95 for a similar-looking Henckel, or Sabatier, or the such. And if I didn't like it, I figured that $19.99 wasn't much of a loss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not cheap
I own Rachael Ray's 3 piece knife set; they are great; sturdy, sharp, wonderfully weighted. They are "Australian designed hardened German stainless steel". The bamboo box is not of great quality and maybe that was made in China.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheaply Made
I tried this knife at Sur La Table at the Furi demo. They appeared to be very sharp. However I did not like these knives for the following reasons

5-0 out of 5 stars The Santoku Knife
I bought this knife as a Christmas gift for my wife who has become an excellent cook and I asked her about Santoku knives and shesaid they are very good knives to have in the kitchen. So I bought her this 4.5 inch model because she has small hands and she absolutely loves it. It is put to use everyday. An excellent buy

Editorial Review

The Japanese version of the chef’s knife, the santoku is useful for straight chopping, mincing, and slicing of larger quantities of vegetables and meat. Cooks with smaller hands may prefer this 7-inch blade as the shorter length offers better control while cutting. The width also provides a great platform for transporting chopped vegetables from cutting board to sauté pan. This version of the santoku actually has a hollow edge or oval cut-outs along the blade. The benefit to this blade style is that cooks can cut paper-thin slices and individual slices won’t stick to the blade.Read more

  • 7-inch hollow-edge blade allows for paper-thin slices, keeps food from sticking
  • High-carbon stainless-steel; optimum grades of metal welded into each part of knife

  • Full tang and bolster; black polypropelene handle

5-0 out of 5 stars The sharpest knife I have ever owned!
I had always wanted one of these knives, and finally caved in and purchased one.I cannot believe how quickly I can cut up a chicken! It takes one tenth the time as with my other "sharp" knives. And, I was able to easily cut through beef ribs to separate them before cooking. If you are tired of wrestling with difficult meat joints, this is the knife for you!I give it 5 stars!

1-0 out of 5 stars one star henckles breakable knife~
after reading reviews of this knife and others, my husband came to the conclusion that this knife would be the best christmas present for me.and it was for about 5 days.it cut wonderfully and felt perfect in my hand.after i was washing the knife off after cutting an onion, i noticed a crack in the blade!!so i sent it back for another one, and that one was defective.the divits that are on the sides of the blades (to keep food from sticking to the knife) were off centered and went off the blade's edge instead of running above it.so i sent that back for another one.then amazon said lots of other people were having problems, too, so they did not have any more in stock.i gave up then.i am using my refund money towards a trip to california....

4-0 out of 5 stars My Henckels 7-Inch Santoku Knife
I love this knife. It makes slicing of anything so easy. The knife feels a little heavy, but I am all right with it.I find myself taking this knife out to slice everything.I have actually become a better slicer, since using this knife.I would recommend this knife to anyone who wants a good quality knife that is not too expensive. ...
