Mr. Humphrey helped my sister -- age 30 -- kill herself
Mr. Humphrey may think that his "don't kill yourself if you're just depressed, please call a hotline" admonitions are sufficient to justify publishing such a book as this, but he is responsible for the suffering of many who remain after their loved ones commit suicide. I will never, ever stop feeling the pain of losing my beautiful, brilliant sister. Am I positive that Mr. Humphrey influenced her? Yes. She left a copy of his book on a computer disk in a folder with her explicit suicide plan and her suicide letters. The only good thing I can say is that I am glad she pirated a copy of this book off the web and that Mr. Humphrey received no financial profit from her death. Think about it: Mr. Humprey makes money each time a suicidal person buys his book and uses it to end his life.

Puttingthis publication out for widespread, general availability is grotesquely irresponsible.

Appreciating Life
What I like most about this man is that he genuinely appreciates life and encourages people to live....surprised? This book is not aimed at everyone, only the terminally ill. He strongly discourages people from taking their own life unless they're sick. I respect his view that humans have the right to end their existence, even if the problem is mental distress, not physical. I did see a few methods that anyone who can walk themselves to the store with some cash on hand can do. Those methods require no doctor or hard-to-get materials. For sure, anyone with access to a doctor can use this book as a guide to obtain the essential materials needed.

I did wish the book had more methods of self deliverence (that are available without prescription), and more detailed instructions on using prescribed drugs.

A sad but necessary volume
My father died after fighting metastatic cancer for almost five years. The last six months of his life were horrific for him and for his family, and eventually, he did end his own life. If readers whose "worldview" is unalterably opposed to the ending of one's existence at cause are appalled at this text, let them channel at least some of their holier-than-thou energies into finding a cure-or at least more effective treatments than today's "cut-burn-poison" armamentarium, which is only slightly better than Victorian technology can do.

At the same time, I am also saddened at the stories, here and elsewhere, of people who had no terminal affliction who simply chose to terminate their life, apparently somehow encouraged by this book. My father didn't have this book and neither did the vast majority of other suicides, famous or otherwise. I have often wondered whether it wouldn't be more responsible to distribute this book under controlled conditions, as some law enforcement and locksmithing books are. Simply the best bedtime cd for kids!
I needed to get my children into a routine for bedtime. This CD offered a wonderful selection of songs to accompany all the things we would do before bed. The songs are so soothing for the little ones. I love this as much as my kids. I highly recommend this selection.

A "Must Have" every night at our house
My son who is five and one of my daughter's who is almost four both listen to this CD every night.It is an integral part of our night-time routine.In fact, when we vacation, we even take a portable CD player with us, just so that they can hear their "Barney Sleepy-time" CD.The music is typically, sweet Barney-ish music and there is kind of a rhythm to the pace in that the beginning of the CD is a little peppier and the second half is definitely more mellow and sub-dued.I have tried to suggest to my five year old that maybe he would enjoy some other type of night-time CD---but no go--at least for now, this Barney CD with its sweet, peaceful tone is what he wants.Our two year old is ready for her big girl bed--so it's almost time to order her CD, too.

A perfect bedtime routine begins here...
My three children have been listening to Barney's Sleepytime songs for YEARS.It is now in the hands of our youngest child, who will be 2 this summer.It is the ONLY cassette she will listen to at bedtime, and it is our second (wore out the first copy)...we're now investing in the CD version!Side One is perfect to play while your child takes his/her bath, brushes teeth, etc.It is a little more "uptempo" than the second side of the tape (or second half of the CD, whatever the case may be).The second half is VERY soothing... sometimes WE fall asleep as we rock the baby and sing along to the "nighty-night" songs. I'd recommend this to ANYONE in need of a new routine at bedtime, for ages birth-5 years. :) ... Read more

It's a keeper!
As a gerontologist, I have read many books on drugs and drug interaction for elderly patients. All of them were thoughtfully written and had salient points. However, if you asked me to provide you with a list of books I've read on this subject, I couldn't help you. I didn't keep them. In fact, I gave them away. Nothing I have read seemed relevant to my work with elderly patients. However, I'll keep Salzman's book.

Two critical points can be made about this important volume.

First, it is well written. Salzman has a rare ability to captivate his readers. Please realize that PSYCHIATRIC MEDICATIONS FOR OLDER ADULTS is an academic book. It is not suppose to be interesting, but it is. I think the case illustrations are particularly good.

Second, it is relevant to gerontologists who are NOT physicians. After reading this book, I can more clearly understand issues that physicians must address and comprehend how medication mistakes can be made.

Everyone who is concerned about drugs and elderly should read this book and retain it as a reference. It's a keeper. ... Read more

All-Clad Stainless 7-Quart Mixing Bowl - The Best!
These are the best mixing bowls I have ever used! I have 4 sizes (7, 5, 3 and 1.5 quart) and I use at least one or two every day.They have a nice handle so you can get a good grip on it.The polished stainless steel is so beautiful you could definitely use them to serve as well.I use the 7 quart for making several pounds of meatballs at a time.It is definitely one of my favorites.Also, the clean up couldn't be any easier and they all nest together for easy storage.I can't imagine using any others!

The base is a good size and there is no danger that anything could tip over, that is unless you tip it over!Top quality and excellent design!Highly recommended!

The Best but Overpriced
I investigated all the mixing bowls at local stores and on-line, and the All Clad ones are the best.1.) Many other bowls roll the top lip over to increase strength.Unfortunately (as with my old bowls), water and other grime collects or dribbles in the rolled lip.All Clad bolws have an edge that is flat and doesn't do this.They use thicker material for strength.2.) The All Clad bowls have a handle attached.This is so much better for beating, whisking, etc., since you get a good grip on the bowl.3.) The All Clad bowls are highly polished which makes them easier to clean, and you could even serve in them since they look nice.4.) The All Clad bowls have a nice shape.Others are too shallow so stuff slops out when mixing or are too conical not allowing you to mix.These bowls are nicely shaped like a half-circle.

So why only only 4 stars?Look at the price.For the price of one All Clad bowl, you can buy a whole set (or two) of other brands.I plan on giving these to my grandchildren.

The 7Qt is a monster--large enough for tossing a salad.Finally, it doesn't look like they do, but they do stack/nest just like other bowls despite the handles. ... Read more
