    Editorial Review

Some people may sneer at this 1965 musical, but the truth is the film has earned its status as a perennially watchable romantic-drama, largely on the strength of a fun story and chemistry between stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. Veteran filmmaker Robert Wise (The Day the Earth Stood Still) mostly stays out of the way of the film's appealing elements, which include a based-on-fact tale of Austria's von Trapp family, who fled their Nazi-occupied country in 1938. Andrews is delightful and even fascinating as Maria, who sheds her tomboyish ways as a novice nun to accept the mantle of adulthood, becoming matron of the motherless von Trapp clan. Plummer is matinee-idol handsome and gives a smart performance to boot, and the cast of young people and kids who make up the singing von Trapp children make a strong impression. Based on the Rodgers and Hammerstein stage musical, the score includes such winners as "Maria" and the future John Coltrane hit "My Favorite Things." --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh! How do you solve a problem like Maria?
This movie is simply amazing. It is a very good story. It starts off on the hills of Austria with Maria (Juilie Andrews) singing The sound of music. She realises she is late for church at the abbey and rushes off. Next we here a wonderful performance by the nuns. "How do you solve a problem like Maria"? It was beautiful. Next we have Maria in the Reverand Mothers office. She is told she well become a governess...on her way to Captain Vontraps she sings a song. "I have confidence" A very delightful song that well make you cry. Then she meets the Captain. A mean man. The children pull a prank on her but she covers them. Then there is more songs, a visit from the boareness and more! BUY THIS!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of The Best Movies I have ever Seen!!
"The Sound of Music" is one of my all time favorite movies. This movie is a great musiacal for the whole family. The movie is about a young woman who is trying to become a nun. The Reverned Mother asks her if she wants to be the goveness for the children of a retired navy officer. The job is easier said than done. The captain runs a very strict household. He uses a whistle when he wants to call one of the children or anyone else in the house. The woman works her charm on the children. She also works her magic and charm on the captain as well and ends up marrying him. This is a great film because there are so many songs and its great for young kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars "The hills are alive with the sound of music..."
Such golden moments in cinema history include the world-famous helicopter-shot zoom-in on Julie Andrews spinning joyfully around in the middle of an open green field, the orchestral music rising and Julie starting to sing those opening words in a closeup shot! Absolutely timeless! You know it's a classic already after the first 5 minutes with the long very played-out opening of wind-whistling, helicopter shots of mountains, valleys, lush towns below and the sweeping orchestral music. Same goes for the opening credits. Based on a true story, Julie Andrews is Maria, a young postulant that's just not cut out for convent life. She is sent to be the governess of seven children headed by their strict father Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). She re-introduces music to the Trapp household and brings forth the charm and merriment that they once knew, and works her charm on the Captain, too. As the children learn to sing, Uncle Max (Richard Haydn) finds that this is the great singing group he's been after to exploit to Salzburg, and the children, Maria and the Captain become the Von Trapp Family Singers. This wonderful, lavish story is set against the backdrop of the Nazi invasion of Austria and the Von Trapp's dodging the Nazis and escaping into Switzerland. I have first seen this film back when I was very small and loved every minute of it. Finally, I got this DVD recently and rediscovered all of its breathtaking beauty. It still hasn't grown old. I love the Spanish audio track, too, though no songs are dubbed in Spanish which isn't to speak of for the French audio track. The French female singer dubbing Julie Andrews' songs is actually kind of nice to listen to. There is also a commentary track by Robert Wise, the director with the isolated score; yes, you hear the score by itself with no talking or singing overtop of it. Good for music historians and appreciators. Everybody, no matter who they are, should see this film at least once in their lifetime for it is an all-time essential classic. Highly appealing to children as well as adults, "The Sound of Music" is one film that will always be treasured. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gee, has it been 22 years already???
I'm "old" enough to remember the Madonna craze that swept the nation in the early and mid-1980's: It seemed as though every adolescent kid (me) and teenaged girl wanted to copy her look with the tons of jewelry, the calf-length pants, the sky-high hair, the pounds of makeup, and the punk clothes.Of course, those of us still in the single digits of age would have gotten our hides kicked if we walked around in that much makeup, so we settled for listening to her album (back when it was actually an album!).

I enjoy listening to Madonna's first self-titled album time and again because of the fact that, indeed, they're songs that can still be (and are) enjoyed to this day - 22 years later.

"Burning Up" is special for us Madonna fans as this was her first video. The song sounds dated (those 80's synthesizers at work!) but you can always ignore that and just enjoy the beat.

"Holiday" has become a classic party tune and whenever I hear "Borderline" I think of the video where she's playing a wanna-be model spray-painting on the wall and how the paint winds up on the photographer's car (who happens to have taken a romatic interest in her) and the look that says she just doesn't care.

People can say whatever they want about Madonna but the woman has proven she can change according to the times and still match and/or outsell kids half her age.

You can either like her or hate her, but there's definitely no in between. And, either way, she laughs all the way to the bank.

5-0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL MADONNA
The remastered version is excellent. They almost sound like brand new songs and not just it's been remastered. More than 20 years later this album does not sound dated. In fact all the songs that were released in the 80's are still played today, unlike the overated follow-up, LIKE A VIRGIN. In addition to the crisp old songs you get two extra remixed tracks. Essential to any music collection. FLAWLESS

    5-0 out of 5 stars Madonna's Original--And Best Album
I bought this album on cassette back in 1984 and it instantly became a favorite of mine. You know it's a good album when you don't at all feel compelled to fast forward through any songs.I never had to with this one.All the songs are fantastic. When I first saw her on TV (on "Solid Gold" around 1983) I didn't think she'd be a huge star, but when I bought this album a few months later, I realized that she would be.

I recently bought it on CD so I could rip the songs and put them on my MP3 player.I have to say I don't think the songs feel dated in any way. They're still as enjoyable and refreshing as ever.I highly recommend buying this album.I wish someone would come around and make an album similar to this so to revive today's brain-dead pop scene. An album like this one is sorely needed today. ... Editorial Review

Founded by cookbook author Marion Cunningham and professional baker Amy Pressman, the Baker's Dozen, a Bay Area group, helps its members bake better, sharing knowledge and solving members' baking problems. Edited by Rick Rodgers, The Baker's Dozen Cookbook, the group's first work, includes 135 enticing recipes, from Sour Cream Pound Cake and Almond and Chocolate Sandwich Cookies to breads and other nonsweet baked goods. The book's great appeal, however, lies in its lucid instructive material. New and veteran bakers alike will find this collection a true learning tool, which provides basic tutorials and more-advanced explorations into the art of baking.

The recipes come with a pedigree. Readers can thus enjoy baking-book expert Flo Braker's Triple Chocolate Cake and Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam Cake, "Italian baker" Carol Field's Italian Whole Wheat Bread, and Chez Panisse pastry chef Lindsey Shere's Warm Pear Tart and Simple Nectarine Gallete. Other outstanding recipes include Julia Cookenboo's Pistachio-Golden Raisin Biscotti, Fran Gage's Spicy Cornmeal Crackers, and Rochelle Huppin-Fleck's Blood Orange Chiffon Pie with Chocolate Crumb Crust. In addition to insightful notes that accompany every recipe, the book offers definitive ingredient and equipment glossaries (chocolate is particularly well treated here), a detailed cake-basics section (batter-mixing for all cake types as well as other techniques are explored in depth), and color photos that depict the mouthwatering sweets in all their glory. The group has done its work well--this is one of the best baking books to appear in recent years. --Arthur Boehm ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Recipes always come out wonderful!
I was looking for a book that gave me information on how foods react to each other and why. This book does that and more.I particularly enjoy the first section. It calls itself a glossary but should be renamed encyclopedia.Everything from what percentage of chocolate liquor makes bittersweet chocolate bittersweet to what situtations baking soda is prefered over powder and why. The preface sections of each chapter are also filled with a ton of information that I have never seen in any of my other books. The section on high altitude cooking is also probably the most in depth published. To top off the interesting information are recipes that so far have not failed.I have made several of the cakes and they have been delicious and beautiful. There are only two things that would make this book better: pictures and weight.Even if there was a very tiny picture of each of the recipes it would be nice to be able to see it.Early on in the book they talk about how measuring by weight is so much better but most of the recipes are not by weight. How hard would it have been to put both cups and weight in each recipe. This book combined with "The Professional Pastry Chef" by Bo Friberg gives a pretty thorough decription of what you need to know to bake.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very impressed
This book is informative, insightful, and intelligent. It's not a trendy cookbook with a lot of flash, it's just got good recipes that come out perfect.I highly recommend it to any cook.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Baker's Bible
Many cookbooks about baking have words like "bible" or "complete" in them.Yet, none really deserve the term. They are never complete nor correct enough to warrant the title. This book, however, has earned the rights to these words. It originally started out as a club for professional bakers to solve their common baking problems that metastasized into this baking cookbook. It features many highly respected names such as Flo Braker, John Phillip Carroll, Marion Cunningham, Carol Field, Fran Gage, and Alice Medrich. The whole thing is edited by Rick Rodgers.

I have often heard people, including many respected food writers, lament that there ought to be a comprehensive book about baking that covers all of the important aspects and types of recipes and techniques.Well, here it is.It delves into such arcana as: the differences between genoise, sponge cake, chiffon cake, and angel food cake; the proper way to measure flour (in fact, different chapters use different methods, so read the recipes carefully and follow them to the letter; similar comments apply to which rolling pin or what kind of flour to use); and 4 different recipes for pie dough using either lard, cream cheese, shortening, or butter. The same applies to the chapter on tarts. It starts out with 5 recipes for crusts (pate brisee, pate sablee, pate sucree, tartlet dough, and quick puff pastry), and the subsequent recipes for tarts start with one of one of the crusts. The chapter on yeast breads is especially noteworthy.

Each chapter is written by a different person, and functions as a self contained primer on a particular subject. Each subject is treated systematically and thoroughly. In fact, each chapter could be published on its own as reference work on its subject. One chapter often contains more information than a standard cookbook on baking. The chapters are: ingredients, tools, basic cakes, fancy cakes, pies, tarts, fruit desserts, cookies, muffins and quick breads, yeast breads, custards, and frostings.

There are 2 important features in this book that are absent from most others about baking.First, all of the recipes are the result of extensive testing by the bakers (of which, incidentally, there are many more than just a baker's dozen or 13), and not just a "traditional" one someone habitually uses.Second, all of the recipes are solid, old-fashioned favorites (like: brownies, biscuits, doughnuts, banana bread, apple pandowdy, pecan pie, cornbread) that have been staples of the family table for decades; there are no trendy recipes here for weird baked goods that you will never make.On the down side, there are a couple of editing mistakes: p. 221 and 224 both refer to "page 000".

If you can bake cakes from boxed mixes and make cookies from the recipe on the back of the package of chocolate chips, then you are ready for this book.Even experienced bakers will learn much from the collective intelligence in this book.If there is only one cookbook about baking on your shelf, then this is the one to have. ... This bakeware set covers many home baking needs. Its 9-inch round cake pans are ideal for a child's first birthday cake or a beautifully decorated Sachertorte, while the muffin pan makes 12 muffins and features SilverStone nonstick coating, so each whole muffin comes out easily. The eponymous jelly-roll pan is wonderful for jelly-roll cakes and drop or bar cookies, and even works for candy such as peanut brittle. This set is wonderful for a new baker, as most items won't stick to the pans--thanks to the coating--but each piece is heavy and should be used only with rubber, wood, or plastic tools. The bakeware should not be cleaned with any abrasive cleaner or pad, as the surface will scratch and is not covered under the manufacturer's 25-year warranty. --Teresa Simanton ... Read more

Designed with nonclogging air vents, the mixer is easy to clean because smooth, sleek surfaces have no seams or grooves that trap ingredients. 3-0 out of 5 stars NOT made in USA as Tech Data says
I'm not happy. The Amazon "Technical Data" section currently states "Country of manufacture: USA" but on the box it says "Made in China"! I go out of my way to purchase items that are made in the USA and to avoid things that are made in China. It is important to me.It's hard enough to find things (in many categories) that are are not made in China.I definitely don't appreciate being misled.Come on Amazon!
    -----------------------
Now ... regarding the mixer itself ... we just received it and have only used it once so it's a bit early to give it a meaningful rating. However, we definitely noticed two points that many others have mentioned. It is very quiet but it is not as fast as many other mixers. My wife doesn't seem too concerned about the speed so I guess it's not a major issue but definitely noticable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh my gosh!
This is the best hand mixer EVER! After 25 years with an old GE hand mixer that finally went, I picked up a Hamilton Beach hand mixer because I was in a baking bind. It was one of the worst purchases I ever made -- chasing batter around the bowl until it finally mixed. Then I ordered the KitchenAid mixer on the recommendation of Cooks Illustrated and let me tell you, it is a PLEASURE to use!! I just made one of my standard recipes and I never had to a) use a speed higher than #1, b) chase batter around the bowl, or c) mix anything by hand because it was too heavy for the mixer! All I can say is WOW! Get this hand mixer if you're in the market for one. ... Read more

First manufactured in 1936 during Art Deco's later, less ornate phase, Fiestaware went out of production in the 1970s but returned in the 1980s and now enjoys unprecedented popularity. Older pieces fetch hundreds or even thousands of dollars at auction. The new line offers the original designs in contemporary colors at affordable prices. To complete a set of yellow Fiestaware or complement your multicolored Fiestaware collection, this curvaceous teapot is essential. Its shape is truly unique--pale rings symmetrically (in true Art Deco style) encircle the pot, handle, and lid. Made of vitrified china with a gleaming, lead-free glaze, the pot holds 4 cups, stands 7 inches high, and is both dishwasher- and microwave-safe. --Fred Brack ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not functional at all
Because of the handle's round shape it is difficult to hold this teapot level when hot.You can't support the pot with your pinky (because the pot is hot) and otherwise the weight of the pot will twist the ring shaped handle in your hand - spilling tea everywhere. The spout also tends to dribble, so (assuming you can actually hold the thing) getting tea into a cup is an added challenge.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty, but pretty useless
I thought this teapot would be a great addition to my Fiesta collection - I bought it in cobalt. It looks great on display, and I've occasionally used it to hold flowers, but it is virtually worthless as a teapot. The pour spout causes tea to run down the side of the pot and tea pretty much goes everywhere but in the teacup. Only buy this if you're looking for a collectible - if you're looking for a good teapot for tea, look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for display
I wanted this teapot because it matched my purple kitchen.I don't use it for tea because of it's heaviness and the fact that it gets very hot to hold.Other than that, everyone asks me where I got it because you just don't see something this unique daily.I really love it and am glad that I added this teapot to my collection.I don't think it's practical for tea though. Might want to check out something else for that. ...

To complete a set of yellow Fiestaware, these thick, heavy mugs are essential. 3-0 out of 5 stars Stick your finger in it
Hunting and collecting is the fun way to obtain this product. However if you have not got the time or the inclination, purchasing is the next best thing. (See my review of "Collector's Encyclopedia of Fiesta" ISBN: 1574322125

Most Fiestaware stick to the rule "form follows function." In the case of these mugs the designer deviated. You know what I am about to say. What to you do with your other fingers after you stuck one in the small portal on the side of the mug full of hot liquid?

3-0 out of 5 stars It burns, it burns!
I really love my fiestaware, but these mugs are enough to suck the joy from the whole set. I wish they offered an option of practical (non-jumbo) mugs, so that fiesta purists could have these and people who want practical drinkware could have something comfortable.

The problem, as others have noted, is the handle. However for me it's not really the awkwardness of having to support the mug with just one finger. Rather, it's the way you have to brace it with your other fingers against the burning hot mug. The thing conducts heat like mad, and even the thickened bit under the handle is too hot for me to keep contact with for more than a quick sip. A mug should not be painful to use! I wind up holding it with two hands on the top and bottom edges, or waiting until it cools and drinking my beverage cold. That's if I use the mugs at all--we gave up on them and keep a separate set of mugs for our use and mostly just bring these out when we care if things look nice and match.

These things have been around forever, and it's obvious that a significant percentage of people just hate them. I just can't understand why over the years they haven't come out with an alternative.

4-0 out of 5 stars Meh.
These are the most bizarre coffee mugs I've ever owned. Yeah, they look really neat, but the "handle" is just a little circle that's hard to grip.

If you like holding your coffee mug with just your index finger and spilling the contents all over the place, this is the mug for YOU!

The capacity is very small, too. All of my other mugs hold a good deal more than these.

I wouldn't buy these particular mugs now that I've had them (they were a gift!) nor would I give them as a gift to anyone else. Does Fiestaware make another kind of mug? Maybe they're better-designed than these ones. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Filled with warm water, this electric footbath, now with twice the bubble power of the previous model, presents a pleasing dilemma: massage your feet with the bath's warm, vibrating bottom and warm them with penetrating infrared heat? Massage, warm with infrared heat, and stimulate with bubbles? Or just treat those tired, aching tootsies to a warm, bubbling bath? (You'll need to use warm water to fill the bath; it will not heat cold water.) A control dial offers those three options. Plus, you can insert rollers in the bottom for saving your soles. Plus, there's a rack containing three more options: a pumice stone, a brush, and a massage device whose top is covered by roller balls. On the bath's divider is a post covered by a cap. Remove the cap; replace with stone, brush, or roller balls; press down with your foot; and your selection will vibrate to working life. Made of plastic, the footbath measures 18 by 15-1/2 by 7 inches and is about 3 inches deep. It carries a two-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

I bought this item for my mother. She is 71 and has a bad ankle. She has tried this product and says she really likes. She likes the massage, bubbles and the heat. She feels it will help with circulation and the achiness she has in her ankle.
Not sure how she will do on her own when it comes to emptying it. Not that heavy. I am sure she will be fine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mucho cash for ....?
This item was a big waste of money. It is not comfortable, just a place to put water. I would use a regular tub over this. This has no power and yet is extremely loud! It has useless rollers and is far from warm..its COOL. The pumice stone is useless. I reggret buying this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Such a treat!
Truly enjoyable.I paid 49.99 but item went on sale
less than a month later for 29.99 & Amazon.com honored the
difference.Point being, shop around & get a good price.
My only complaint is filling/emptying the water is a chore as
machine is extremely heavy when full. I would suggest placing a rubber mat or towel under it while using as water does kind of
slosh around & spill at times. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So funny it will make you beg for more!
Patsy and Edie are hands down the FUNNIEST women in television. After seeing these, you will realize how many American shows used them as an example.Guaranteed to make you laugh outloud even if you are all alone.Yet, under all the fun and laughs there is always a sublte political satire that rings true.

This is by far the most intelligent writing in tv history but it entertains better than the best of them.

Buy the complete series one and you will be back for the rest.

1-0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS BUT THEY MESSED IT UP!
This TV show is a GREAT SHOW, but do not buy these DVD's because they cut a LOT out.No smoking joints, no tooting lines to account for the little trysts these ladies go through. Without these "actions" as a frame of reference, a person who had never seen this show before might just think these ladies are cuckoo.(well they might be, but for good reason!) Fabulous Darling.

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets!
This is British comedy (well, any comedy really) at its very best. I have yet to find another comedy that would a.) make me laugh so much, and b.) make me laugh out loud even after dozens of viewings. For me, most comedies, even the best ones, generally wear out after two or three viewings. The same thing has happened countless of times: I find a new show and fall in love, then start watching the same episodes again and soon find myself getting bored. I expected this to happen with AbFab as well, but it didn't. Even though I know most of the lines by heart now, the delivery still somehow seems fresh to me. It's a work of genius.

However, the show is quite outrageous and I know of people who simply don't get the humor in it, so be warned, but personally I think that AbFab is definitely worth of taking the risk. The chances are you'll be wetting your pants over and over again, and if you don't find it funny you can always (as Patsy would say) 'mark it up and sell it on'. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb as usual - the best Ab Fab series?
After the incredibly successful run of six Series 1 episodes, Jennifer Saunders' genius creation Absolutely Fabulous was back for a much-hyped second series. The wait was more than a year, but definitely worth it when the Series 2 opener, Hospital, was shown on 27th January 1994. Series 2 is perhaps the best Absolutely Fabulous series of the lot, and portrays the mother/daughter reversal role the best of all the seasons. Jennifer Saunders is brilliant as ever as Edina Monsoon, as are Joanna Lumley and Julia Sawalha as Patsy Stone and Saffy Monsoon respectively. There's an increasing role for June Whitfield as Edina's crazy mother, yet with this good news there's the bad that Jane Horrocks as Bubble (Edina's brain-dead office assistant) isn't is Series 2 as much as Series 3.

Series 2 opens with Hospital. At the beginning of this superb episode, we see Patsy arrive at Edina's house being followed by the press after she's caught up in a sex-scandal. She's all over the papers and her reaction to the suggestion that she's 47 years old is hilarious! She goes mental! Hello! magazine want to do a photoshoot of Patsy, so she has to try and look 35; the result is rather unexpected...walking like a skeleton and eyes that appear to be closed are the highlights. Of course, Edina has to buy tons of new "things" for her living room after hearing Hello! are coming, including an eskimo papoose! Absolutely Fabulous constantly takes the mickey out of the stuck-up and snobby fashion world we live in today. The ditzy Hello! magazine interviewer who doesn't even know what she's doing is another side of the fashion world mickey-take by Jennifer Saunders - this being that most people who work in fashion have nothing to do. Death is the next episode, and probably the most disturbing one of all the series. Edina's mother tells her that her father is dead, and she just doesn't care! "What, did she finish him off?!" she says to her daughter Saffy about her mother. Edina takes a trip to an art store to buy some "things," saying that ...to the shop assistant. The episode is very funny, but a bit disturbing. In the episode Morocco, Edina and Patsy take a trip to Marrakech to get away from it all. A good episode, but not a highlight.

New Best Friend is another excellent episode in which Edina's old friends come to stay at her house. The last time she met up with them, they were incredibly minimalist - white rooms, white clothes, etc. Edina wants to makes her house look as tidy as possible for when her two old friends arrive, but Patsy's jealous and she falls out with Edina. Trying to act as if they have friends other than each other when they find themselves in a restaurant alone are the highlights. But now Edina's friends have a baby! Their lives have totally changed, and the mother is hilarious in the situation-type comedy scenes where everything that can go wrong do, especially when she hears her husband with Edina...you know, doing stuff on the baby monitor! Absolutely hilarious. Poor is a favourite episode for many fans of the show. Edina's ex-husband has threatened to stop his money income to support the family and she's furious. She has to cancel food orders from Harrods and is forced to go to a supermarket! She has no idea what one is, so you can expect the mayhem and chaos she and Patsy will cause when they have to drive themselves there! They get out of their car and hurl abuse at a driver who dares to hoot their horn at them, expect assistance at the supermarket, park their car on the pavement outside Harvey Nichols, and are forced to visit "The Car-Clamp Club" to try and get the damn thing off their wheel! The ending results with Edina and Patsy in court, facing charges of driving without a licence, driving without insurance, not wearing a seatbelt, having no tax-disc displayed, driving over the legal speed limit, driving under the influence of alcohol, allowing another person to drive your vehicle under the influence of alcohol, in the region of £5,000 of parking fees owing, £6,000 of damage to property, charges of assault and abuse, and shoplifting while the charges of attempted murder and robbery are dropped! Birth is probably the best episode of Series 2 - and a superb series finale! Saffy has a man coming round to her house, but she doesn't want Edina and Patsy to know. When the three are locked in the living room by Edina's insane mother, they are forced to put up with each other. In these desperate situations, Patsy's worse nightmare is confronted - she'd rather die than be locked in a room with Saffy. Edina and Patsy try to help Saffy with her "first sexual experience" with a Cosmo Sex Quiz - hilarity ensures. Edina tells Saffy about her birth and how beautiful it was. The news pleases Saffy, but of course it's a pack of lies. Patsy (telling that the first few years of her life, she was locked in a room!) and Edina's flashback to their births are also superb.

    OVERALL GRADE: 10/10

I can't stress enough how superb Absolutely Fabulous is. This truly is the greatest British comedy ever. A lot of people love it, but some people think it's gross - because of its drugs, sex and drink references. But this is what real life is like - people live their lives like this and to ignore it would be ignorant. The DVD extras are not exactly amazing, but the "15 Minutes Of Out-Takes" is superb. Jennifer Saunders is a genius, and the acting in Ab Fab is amongst some if the best I have ever seen. Buy Series 2 of Absolutely Fabulous now - you won't regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Brits know comedy
After seeing several commercials for AbFab being broadcast on Comedy Central, I gave in to my curiosity and watched it.The result was that I found one of my favorite comedies of all time!AbFab is truly original, fresh, and just downright funny.Edina and Patsy aren't ready to give up their lives of binge drinking, wild parties, and uninhibited sex. This series follows their lives one crazy event after another and is unlike any other show on TV today.

5-0 out of 5 stars GET READY FOR A SECOND HELPING, DARLINGS!
Get ready darlings, because ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS continues in its second series on DVD, with all six remastered episodes along with a fair few extras.

HOSPITAL - Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley) has got a week to look 35 for a Hello! Magazine photo shoot - cue a trip to the hospital for a face peel and eye rejuvenation.

DEATH - Edina Monsoon's (Jennifer Saunders) father is dead. But is it art?

MOROCC0 - Edina and Patsy jet off to Morocco for cheap drugs and underage sex, but with Saffy (Julia Sawalha) in tow, its going to be tough.

NEW BEST FRIEND - Lacroix and baby-spew don't mix, and Edina finds this out when old friends Bettina (Miranda Richardson) and Max (Patrick Barlow) decide to visit along with their new baby.

POOR - Harrods has stopped delivering! Call the stress guru! Edina is going to be poor, her two ex-husbands have cut her off, and Patsy is fuming. What the hell is a supermarket?!?

5-0 out of 5 stars A superb third series of the best British comedy in history!
With its first three series, the popularity of Absolutely Fabulous just grew and grew. Millions tuned in every week for an outrageous helping of their favourite comic duo who drink, smoke and refuse to grow any older. Jennifer Saunders is once again superb as the evil and self-obsessed Edina Monsoon as is Joanna Lumley as Patsy Stone. Julia Sawalha is brilliant as Edina's long-suffering daughter Saffy, but seems a little distracted from her performance; she was spot-on and perfect in Series 2. June Whitfield and Jane Horrocks are also excellent as Edina's mother and Bubble respectively. The two became big stars after their career-revival through Absolutely Fabulous, and rightly so! There is a big list of celebrity guests in Series 3, ranging from Kate O'Mara, Gary Beadle, Naomi Campbell, Lulu, Celia Imrie, Kathy Burke, Ruby Wax and Josie Lawrence.

Doorhandle is the first episode of Series 3 and a superb one to start it off. Edina's got an electronic organiser which controls her life. Apparently she got it free because, "It's the latest thing!" Since Patsy burnt down their kitchen in the Series 2 finale, Edina and Saffy's kitchen has been left in ruins. To begin with, Edina and Patsy fly to New York to buy a doorhandle! Happy New Year is just a classic episode, and one of the best in the show's history. It's New Year's Eve and Edina's house is full of all the people she hates - her mother, her ex-husband and his boyfriend Oliver, Bubble and Sarah (Saffy's best friend). Things only get worse when Patsy's older sister, Jackie, arrives on the scene. It's the first time they've seen each other in 20 years and she spoils Edina's plans in a big way for a night out on the town. Kate O'Mara plays Jackie as Patsy's older sister incredibly well and she gives some of the most hilarious scenes in the episode. For example, she says to Edina when she first meets Saffy, "Oh well, too late to flush her now!" In the end, Patsy discovers a whole different side to Jackie than she had ever dreamed of, and the revelation that she's 72 makes Patsy seriously question how old she is! Sex is an episode loved by a lot of people, but I don't quite see what the appeal is. After discovering a filthy magazine in her son's bedroom, Edina plans an orgy with a man of her choice - along with Patsy and her man! As usual, things go totally wrong and they're forced to race around to find Saffy's college lecture to recover the two tapes that are mixed up - one on science DNA, and the other one of Patsy's dirtier ones!

Jealous is one of the best episodes in Series 3. Edina and Patsy are attending the PR PR Person's Awards Dinner Of The Lunch Month. Edina hopes to win the top award, but fails against her arch-rival Claudia Bing. Even after choosing and bribing the judges, she still looses to that Bing woman! Naomi Campbell also stars in this episode as the stuck-up and very difficult supermodel who is pestered by everyone every minute of her life. Meanwhile, Saffy has a new love interest in a college lecturer. When the revelation that he is married with four children comes out, Edina's punch to the face sorts him out! Fear is probably the worst episode of Series 3, in which Saffy has now left home to attend college and after a bust-up with Edina, Patsy moves to New York, while Edina resides to the country to "find herself." The episode is good, but not much happens. The End is the final episode of Series 3. Edina and Patsy aren't finding much happiness in their new homes, and if the truth be told, they miss each other dearly - not that they'd actually confess to that. Edina decides to track Patsy down in New York, and the reunion on top of a skyscraper is a great moment to see these two life-long friends reunited at last. The two return home and are the subject to a screaming lecture from Saffy, before a hilarious look at what the whole bunch of them will be like in 25 years' time!

    OVERALL GRADE: 10/10

Series 3 of Absolutely Fabulous is a lot more sophisticated and aware of its popularity than Series 1 and Series 2 were. The jokes and gags keep on coming, almost at five-second gaps! The guest-stars are all superb, and the storylines which happen in each episode seem to be at their peak in Series 3 more so than in any other series of the show. The selection of 15 Minutes Of Out-Takes is brilliant and are almost as funny as the episodes themselves. Don't hesitate, buy Absolutely Fabulous Series 3 DVD now!

5-0 out of 5 stars care for a third helping, darlings?
Break out the Bolly and the Japanese finger-food for the third hilarious series of ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, the show that is - well - absolutely fabulous!

DOORHANDLE - Edina's got an electronic organiser and a plan to become a model (of efficiency, that is).And what's more efficient than flying to New York on the Concorde for a doorknob?

HAPPY NEW YEAR - It's New Year's Eve and Edina's got a full house - including Patsy's ultra-glam sister Jackie. But Edina's not going to let the crowd interfere with her resolution to have more fun!

JEALOUS - Edina's feeling low and needs an award for her PR work to make her feel better.Supermodel Naomi Campbell could be her ticket to success (that's if arch-rival Claudia Bing doesn't get to her first!).

THE END - Cosmodrama, deep breathing, sand play - Edina's on a quest for inner peace and enlightenment. Before the search drives her crazy, she'd better find Patsy in New York...

    Editorial Review

The babes of boozeland are back and drunker than ever in the fourth season of the Britcom Absolutely Fabulous. Even after a five-year hiatus, the main characters are unchanged, and the only giveaway that things are different is Eddy's defection from Lacroix to Burberry. Devoted fans will appreciate that this season (which also has the usual dieting, drinking, and manhunting) goes where no Pats and Edina have gone before, from a PR gig with Twiggy to menopause. What's more frightening: Patsy going through "the change" or the two dames dressed to the nines... for a night of moshing at a Marilyn Manson concert? If you're new to the series, have no fears; it won't take long to figure out that Edina (Jennifer Saunders) is the queen of excess, an extraordinary drinker and dieter but horrific mother. (Her daughter, Saffron--played by Julia Sawalha--is the levelheaded one, although as a young adult, her character has less purpose than in previous years.) Patsy (Joanna Lumley) is Eddy's sidekick, with a figure to die for--or at least paralyze for, as her experiences with youth-enhancing Parralox show. This is not a series to miss. --Jenny Brown ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Sin is in, sweetie!
I couldnt think of a better title. lol.

Anyway, I don't know why people don't like this season. I actually think it's the best season. It has some of the best episodes. The first three seasons were great, but I still like the fourth better. I bought this DVD mainly because it had a lot of cool extras (this is the only series I own of Ab Fab).

    Here's an episode overview:
1)Parralox- Patsy gets parralox and pressures Edina into getting it as well so she'll look good on TV when she goes on Richard and Judy with Twiggy. Saffy tries to get a New Labor job. It's not one of my favorite episodes, but it's got some great parts (I don't understand the whole exchange between Candy and that other girl in the club, even after watching it with the commentary.) Anyway, pretty good episode. 8/10

2)Fish Farm- This isn't one of my favorite episodes, but it does have some good gags in it. Edina finally goes on a date again with a supposed wealthy person, but a shocking (to them) secret is revealed. 7/10

3)Paris- Patsy begins her modeling career again for a special photo shoot of young and old models as well as a mother and daughter shoot. Saffy, Edina, and Bubble join Patsy on her way to Paris. The relationship between Edina and Saffy begins to blossom, but Edina's idea of sight seeing does something that causes a riff between them again. A hilarious episode. 9/10

4)Donkey- A Sex and the City-type episode. It begins with a usual dinner with Edina and her friends and Edina is told that she's too fat. Determined to be the fast racehorse and not the donkey, she engages in an exercise program and gives up booze. But sometimes things don't always work out. Absolutely hilarious episode. 10/10

5)Small Opening- Saffy's written a play about her life and Edina is horrified at what kind of play Saffy's written, and just HOW fat is the actress playing her? This is definitely one of the best episodes in the whole show's history. I love this episode and I'm so glad that I have the chance to watch it whenever I want to now. 10/10

6)Menopause- I'm just gonna write what's on the back of the DVD because I don't know how to describe this fantastic epiosde. Womb prayers echo all around the house as Eddy and Patsy join Menopausals Anonymous. While Edina rails against the group hugs, a new, altogether fluffier Patsy is about to emerge...
I absolutely love this episode. With a peek into the future life of Edina and Patsy as old women, another great episode from Series 4. 10/10

EXTRAS: Commentary by Jen Saunders and Jon Plowman on all 6 episodes (hilarious); Mirrorball special featuring the original cast in different characters (Jane Horrocks is HILARIOUS in this); Outtakes; Photo Gallery; a Who's Who guide to the cast, the celebrity guests, and the various references made throughout Series 4; two sketches from French and Saunders that started the whole show of Ab Fab ("Modern Mother and Daughter" and "Woman's World", hilarious stuff); and a clip from 1967 with Joanna Lumley talking about modeling (a very interesting clip)

All in all, one of the best DVD packages I've seen. The episodes are great, the extras are awesome, so get this DVD!

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it but...
Perhaps after a long hiatus from the show and the teaming up with Comedy Central in the US, this season of Ab Fab somehow is not quite it. SOmething is missing from the usual bawdy, unapolgetic humor. Still it is funny enough but not as memorable as the first 3 seasons.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fabulous is Fabulous!
Well, being a religious watcher of Ab Fab since the beginning, series 4 really doesnt stand up to the orginal 3 series. But i totally understand why. It was quite a long break the producers took b/t series 3 and 4.But dont get me wrong, series 4 is a delightful season.I love it! I am giving it 5 stars because of the humor, the characters, the dvd extras, and just because it is Ab Fab.Here is a brief episode guide:

1.Parralox- Edina has started a new TV production company.Patsy has taken up parrlox injections to preserve her "beauty".And Saffy is applying for a New Labour job.Its a good start for a good season.

2.Fish Farm- Edina and Patsy return from a Marilyn Manson concert. And Edina finds that her new male gardener is quite a catch.See what happens!!

3.Paris-The gang goes to Paris for a fashion shoot that Patsy is going to be in.Edina and Saffy go on an all out tour de paris. And Patsy just cant seem to get her 60's fashion poses out of her.

4.Donkey-Once again, poor Edina needs to lose weight. She bites the bullet and starts a new excersise program. Will she be skinny enough to be called Sarah Jessica Parker?!

5.Small Opening-My favorite episode from series 4.Saffy is making a play about her life and doesnt want Edina to know. But once Edina finds out...well, you'll just have to see what happens.A great story line!!

6.Menopause-The last episode in series 4.Edina is worried that she may have menopause, so Saffy forces her into a menopause anonymous group...in her living room!!!

Your going to have loads of fun watching this series. Ta-Ta Sweetie Darling!!! ... Read more
