Editorial Review

KitchenAid's Artisan stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 325 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough. This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solidly constructed and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist. This model also includes a pouring shield for guiding ingredients to their proper destination, and the bowl itself locks tight to the base. Standing about 15 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off. --Betsy Danheim

From the Manufacturer

The Artisan mixer's strong 325-watt motor delivers the power to handle the heaviest mixtures, and mix large batches easily.

The 5-quart polished stainless steel bowl with ergonomic handle is big enough to handle large batches of heavy mixtures. Its ergonomically designed handle is contoured to fit the hand and makes lifting the bowl more comfortable.

Unique Mixing Action

The beater spins clockwise as the shaft spins counter clockwise; moving the beater to 67 different points around the bowl. This unique mixing action creates a thorough blend of ingredients and eliminates the need to rotate the bowl.

Multiple Speeds

10 speeds allow the user to select the right speed for the mixing job; from very high to very slow stir. It's easy to select the precise speed needed for a perfect mix.

Versatile Accessories

The flat beater, dough hook, and the professional wire whip add to the versatility of the mixer. The flat beater is the ideal accessory for mixing normal to heavy batters. From cake mixes to firm cookie dough, the flat beater mixes quickly and thoroughly.

The dough hook mixes and kneads yeast dough, saving both time and the effort of hand-kneading. The wire whip incorporates the maximum amount of air in whipped mixtures for fluffier whipped cream and angel food cakes.

All attachments are solidly constructed, and attach easily to the stand mixer.

Easy Clean Up

The pouring shield fits around the top of the bowl and prevents ingredient splash-out. The chute makes it convenient and easy to add ingredients.

The tilt-back mixer head allows for easy access to bowl and beaters. A lock lever holds the mixer head securely in place and the bowl fastens tightly to the base.

Optional Attachments

Optional attachments (sold separately) complete the package to make cooking a pleasure. From citrus juicer to sausage stuffer, KitchenAid stand mixers can handle just about any job in the kitchen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great essential for the baker in your life....you!
I love the mixer's power, capacity and ease of use. It makes even garlic mashed potatoes heavenly. I selected a black model to match my Viking kitchens without realizing the color would need more frequent cleaning. If you use this mixer every day buy a cover or another color to save time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I got this mixer about a month ago. I've wanted one for years, but always talked myself out of it (too expensive, too big, etc.) After finding a great deal here on Amazon, I finally caved in and let me say, I'm glad I did. I love this mixer! I was worried I wouldn't use it very much, since I already have a very nice bread machine (a "Zo"). I find that I'm using it all the time though. It really is like having an extra pair of hands in the kitchen. Cookie dough is so much easier. I'm also making bread with it constantly. It's just so simple to throw the ingredients in the mixer and let it do all the kneading. I've been making fresh bread and bagels every week and it's been no hassle. It handles the dough very well and stays put. It's a big heavy machine. The only problem I was having with it was I was finding it very difficult to remove the bowl to clean it after I was done mixing something. My husband suggested rubbing some vaseline on the bottom edge and that has solved the problem completely. Now I can pop the bowl off with one hand. Anyway, if you've been wanting one of these and if you like to bake at all, do youself a favor and get one. You will be amazed at how much easier it will make your life. I only wish I'd gotten one years ago!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ivan must like Belgian Waffles too...
Well....my wife of 14 years finally found out about my girlfriend of 13 years and my 7 children with said girlfriend.
She didn't take the news very well, cried, yelled at me, smacked me, then packed up all of her stuff.
She informed me that she had found out about the affair and now had met someone else herself, a Russian Dancer named Ivan Karkov. He came over, punched me in the face, and then helped her move all of her things into a van. And off they went.

As sad as I was to see my wife leave, I was even more sad to see our KitchenAid Mixer leaving. It was the secret to perfect Belgian Waffles that my wife would make for me when I actually spent the night there and wasn't "Busy working at Uncle Joey's Mashed Potato Bar".

I didn't know where I would get a mixer like this, I only shop at Old Navy, Home Depot, and Sam Goody. None of those places had them . (I looked.)
I didn't think I would ever be able to replace my Mixer as easy as I replaced my wife one year into our marriage! So, I asked my girlfriend and mother of my 7 children if she knew where to get a Kitchenaid Mixer. She said she buys all her kitchen needs on Amazon. OF COURSE! I didn't even think of it, maybe it's because all I can think of is some sweaty russian dancer touching my first love.....but, I did go buy one.
I finally got a new one and my Belgian Waffle breakfasts are back! Hooray!

Guess I didn't need my wife after all.... ... Read more

Functional as well as beautiful, this 1-quart saucepan is made of heavy 18/10 stainless steel polished to a mirror finish. The pan has an aluminum core in its base to spread heat quickly and evenly. The core is completely clad in stainless steel so, like the rest of the pan, the bottom resists corrosion and discoloring and cleans up easily. Thick rolled rims add durability and make it possible to pour from the pan without dripping. Because the pan comes with a domed lid that self-bastes foods it can be used for reheating a portion or two of cassoulet or macaroni and cheese on the stovetop or in the oven without drying it out. 5-0 out of 5 stars I've used mine a million times
This IS a kitchen essential.I have two. This is the pot you grab for every little thing: heating up a can of soup, frozen veggies, straining gravy in to, anything. This and the next size up, are musts in every kitchen.Cleans easily and stays nice and shiny.I got all of mine years ago for a wedding present and it was my favorite present and still is, I use them always.I have since acquired Le Creuset and All-Clad, and I love them too, but THESE are the tried and true pots you don't have to think about damaging or how do I clean it, or will I scratch it.Good buy for the money too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect cookware for the young bachelor...
This has got to be the deal of the century, and not only that, these pans will last you almost that long! My mother has had a set for 35 years, and I've had mine for 5. Nearly indestructible, dishwasher safe, good performers on the stovetop, with stay-cool handles! They even look great after all those years!
Keep in mind that because they are mostly stainless steel, with an aluminum bottom, Farberware does not heat up quite as fast as, say, hard-anodized aluminum such as Calphalon, which gourmets prefer. Stainless steel is a poor heat conductor, while aluminum is good and copper is the best. On the plus side, you can't put Calphalon in the dishwasher and Calphalon does not have true stay-cool handles, like Farberware.
Anyway, how often do you buy a gift knowing that it will still be around 20, 30, 40 years from now? By the way, if the pot does have a problem, they come with a Lifetime Warranty.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Functional Pan For Daily Use
This Farberware pan is a study in functionality. It is well made and quite rugged; it has a relatively thick bottom and heats very evenly, and has high quality, durable phenolic handles, which are securely attached and will last a long time. It also has an attachment on the handle to enable hanging from a hook.

My only critique of the pan is that it is a bit too tall relative to other two quart saucepans, and not as big in diameter as I would like, as it won't cover even the smallest burner on an electric range. That is the main reason that I gave it four stars instead of five, but I also deducted a bit for appearance: the pan is homely. I am not looking for a major style statement in my cookware, but rivals like Cuisinart have similarly priced high quality cookware that is considerably more stylish and less dowdy.

Recommended overall: will give years of good service if treated with even a modicum of care, which, in the end, is what I really want from a saucepan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazon Sleazy Practices
Beware of so-called Amazon rebates. They are phony and will never materialize. I am still waiting after three months for my $50 rebate in Kitchen & Houseware. Amazon now refuses to reply.
Sleazy.

5-0 out of 5 stars lasts forever
I received farberware pots for shower gifts 42 years ago...I use them everyday and they still look great...I haven't lost a handle yet.Picked up this 3 qt because I did not have that size...love it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing like the original!
While I agree this pan is good looking, it's not good cooking!Takes a long time to heat up and bottom does not heat evenly. If I'd known Farberware had changed their "classic" pan, I wouldn't have bought it.My advice--look for another brand.

Editorial Review

Many people think of stockpots as the no-talent workhorses of the kitchen--as long as they handle big jobs, conventional wisdom goes, they don't need the conductive qualities of smaller saucepans. That thinking goes out the window, however, when you cook soups, stews, pastas, or chili in a quality stockpot like this Farberware Classic 8-quart product. Like any other cookware item in your kitchen, the better the construction and heat distribution, the more flavorful your food will taste.

This Farberware Classic stockpot features a thick, durable body made of 18/10 stainless steel with an aluminum core. As with all Farberware Classic cookware, the core spreads heat evenly across the bottom and sides, conserving energy while uniformly cooking your food. The pot comes with a lid that fits tightly over the top, preserving the flavors inside. Due to the stainless-steel construction, the pot is easy to clean and is corrosion-resistant. In addition, the pot's thick rolled rims means users can pour from the sides without fear of the soup or stew dripping onto the floor or their shirts. The pot features stay-cool phenolic handles that are oven-safe to 350 degrees F. To top it off, the stockpot is dishwasher-safe and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. --Rivers Janssen ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is a GREAT item!
I love this stockpot. Now I can make a big batch of stew or soup without using two pots.It cleans up very well and is easy to handle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yippee, another workhorse for the kitchen!
I was impressed with the thickness of the pot and immediately made beef stew--it handled the initial saute to three hours of simmering perfectly, and was still easy to clean. I have a non-stick Anolon stockpot in the same size--but its not as easy to clean even though it has the same size and heft as the Farberware. Its a great addition to anyone who loves and needs to cook.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Any Kitchen

You want hollandaise on poached eggs and chocolate sauce on a cake, but to do it right, you'll need a double boiler. Is it worth the grief? Yes, and this convenient midsize outfit reduces the grief by quickly providing what is needed for smooth sauces, while incidentally adding an extra 2-quart pan to a kitchen's repertoire. The pieces are made of highly polished stainless steel, and have phenolic handles that stay cool, are oven safe to 350 degrees, and have metal hanging loops; the large "knob" handle on the lid is also easy to get a hold of in a hurry. The pans are also dishwasher-safe. --Richard Farr ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars the cutest pan ever made!
I boughtthis miniature pan to warm a bowl of soup, not for melting butter or chocolate; It really is a little too small but will hold a can of condensed soup plus thewater needed to reconstitute thesoup ( about 21 Ozs total) but justbarely and the base is a littletoo small for even the smallest electricelement on my stove. A gas cooktop would be worse and a smooth cooktop probably much better. empty, the pan is handle heavy but filled evenpartially rock steady
Frankly it is so pretty that I'll use it as a bibelot( bric-a brac) rather than a cooking tool. but then maybe I'm just a weird dude . . .:To me, it is a work of visual art!For meltingbutter I'dchoose a ceramic or porcelain creamer inthe microwave instead ( faster/safer)

The impressive and somewhat daunting 10-inch blade on this knife features a curved cutting edge and a blunt back; chopping, dicing, and mincing duties are simplified--and made safer--by utilizing a quick rocking motion on the cutting edge. Part of the popular Four Star series, the hand-honed blade is made with Henckels's Sintermetal Component Technology (SCT), which allows three different grades of steel to be combined to form a single piece, fusing together the blade, bolster, and tang. What does this mean in layman's terms? A strong, high-quality knife that will last a lifetime--in a size that says you mean business in the kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most important tool in my kitchen.
This knife is a superstar!I cannot express how much more enjoyable food preperation has become since I purchased it.After two years of almost daily use, it looks and performs like it just came out of the box.Of course, I only hand wash and dry it, and I never allow food or anything else to dry on this gem!Though seemingly expensive, it is well worth every penny!

5-0 out of 5 stars Henckels 4 star gets 5 stars
About 5 years ago I got into cooking stir fry a little bit and found that cutting carrots, onions and many other vegitables was quite a chore with the cheap selection of knives that my kitchen was stocked with.I had to get sometimes near paper thin slices of various ingredients and there was no way even the best knife sold by Target could stack up to the task.I went to a real cookware store and purchased this knife and the 14" sword like knife for starters.

The first slice through an onion I knew where the extra money goes, some of it is for the name, but the rest is all quality. These knives will amaze you with how well they feel with their perfect balance and with a little work, you can get the blade sharp enough to shave with. When I held the 14" knife balanced on a tomato and just pulled, the weight of the knife sliced through it with a clean stroke. The 10" chefs knife I picked up as my 3rd addition and find it excellent for slicing, for dicing I prefer the heavier knife though.

Cut all the coke cans you want with your Ginsu, but leave the real jobs to a real knife.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another serious kitchen tool.
This 10" chef's knife would impress Crocodile Dundee. It features fine balance and a comfortable handle (like all 4-Star knives) and an incredibly sharp edge. Just be sure to wash and dry by hand. ... Read more

The first slice through an onion I knew where the extra money goes, some of it is for the name, but the rest is all quality. These knives will amaze you with how well they feel with their perfect balance and with a little work, you can get the blade sharp enough to shave with. When I held the chefs knife balanced on a tomato and just pulled, the weight of the knife sliced through it with a clean stroke. The paring knife is handy for so many more things than just paring (which it does quite well), I've used it more than once as a steak knife. For some reason I cant stand serrated edges anymore.

Cut all the coke cans you want with your Ginsu, but leave the real jobs to a real knife.

5-0 out of 5 stars A CUT ABOVE THE REST
It seems that everyone's kitchen drawer holds more than one paring knife - ours certainly does, and this small knife by Henckels is a favorite.

The three inch blade makes it perfect for paring whether it be a garlic clove or potato.

With a user friendly handle it fits neatly into your hand, and is easy to grip for lengthy chores.

Pop it in the dishwasher, and it's like new.

This is the best for fruits and vegetables! It is the perfect size and blade length for my hand. ... Read more

Functional as well as beautiful, this 12-inch frying pan is made of heavy 18/10 stainless steel polished to a mirror finish. Because the pan is 3 inches deep and comes with a tight-fitting, domed lid, it is roomy enough to fry chicken and sauté vegetables and can also be used for braising short ribs and sauerkraut or for cooking chili on the stovetop or in the oven. (The handles are oven-safe to 350 degrees F and stay cool on the stovetop.) The pan is dishwasher-safe and comes with a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Pan, love to fry...
This is a great pan for preparing meals. I generally have trouble with a pan being able to hold all of the ingredients, but this one is definitely up to the task. Although it's not stick-proof, most of my cooking involves sauces or olive oil (usually both), resulting in relatively easy cleanup. Keep in mind that it's very heavy (12 inces of stainless steel), but it doesn't warp, tip over, or get knocked off the counter.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worse frying pan I ever bought
If you like scrapping food out of the bottom of a frying pan then this is the one to buy! Adding oil or cooking sprays did not help, even bacon slices stick to this pan! I finally gave up and purchased a professional non stick frying pan and love it. This pan is going in my next garage sale!

3-0 out of 5 stars Works well but can scorch
This is a handy-sized frying pan, and the helper handle is great when it is full.It is dishwasher safe.Because it is uncoated, it can scorch, when means hand-washing with a scrubbing pad. Also, because it is large (with the lid) it can be tricky finding a place to store it. ... Read more

Creating up to 1-1/2 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home takes only about 20 minutes with thiselectric appliance, and salt and ice are not needed. After themachine's chilling chamber has been in the freezer for about eighthours the liquid between its walls is thoroughly frozen. The chamberthen goes atop the power base, the unit's paddle goes into the chamber, the transparent top is locked in place, and the machine is turned on.Ingredients go into the chamber through an opening in the top as thepaddle turns. The chamber chills the ingredients to whateverconsistency is desired--though dense treats are hard to make becausethe paddle churns in air.

Chocolate chips, chopped fruit, nuts, and other special ingredients canbe added toward the end. The chamber is nonstick for easy cleanup.Storing it in the freezer ensures a frozen confection is only 20 to 40minutes away when the mood strikes. The machine measures 10 inches indiameter and 15 inches high and weighs 9-1/2 pounds. It carries athree-year warranty against defects. 5-0 out of 5 stars Ice cream just the way you want it!
This is a delightfully easy way to make ice cream that tastes the way you want it to.Want a flavor no one sells?Mix it yourself with this easy-to-use machine.Even basic flavors are great when you control the ingredients that go in.
The machine is not messy, as it requires no ice or rock salt, and all of the parts are fairly easy to wash. The recipes in the instruction book work just fine.

A bit of advice;
1)Read the instructions carefully.
2)Plan for some lead time. You need to have the bowl completely frozen. (If you need to make more than one batch at a time, you can buy an extra freezer bowl.)
3)Bear in mind that the ice cream will still be soft when the machine is done with it. (This is true with most ice cream machines.) You will still need to put it in the freezer for a while before serving.
4)Indulge in high quality ingredients; for example, get some whole vanilla beans for your vanilla ice cream. (If you want a lot of them, eBay is the cheapest place to get them.)

I am delighted with this purchase and just can not imagine buying ice cream from the store again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pays for itself in one summer of use
I've had this ice-cream maker for three years now, and think it's the best little ice-cream maker I've owned. It's so easy to use and clean, and works perfectly every time. It has definitely paid for itself several times over, because I haven't bought store-bought ice-cream since I bought this machine, and I've made LOTS of ice-cream, gelato and sorbet with it since.

My recommendation for best results: Refridgerate your ice-cream mixture overnight before making if possible, and be sure the insert is thoroughly frozen in a very cold freezer. On warm summer days, I also cover the top opening of the clear plastic "lid"with a folded towel to keep the cool in better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Pinacolada maker
I got this icecream maker for Chritmas a couple of years ago. It really works well. It does take some of your freezer room but well worth it. We made Pinacoladas with it when I first got it and my friends havent stopped talking about them since. Makes a wonderful gift or for your home. My kids love it too. ... Read more

Bandleader and inventor Fred Waring introduced the firstblender in 1936; more than 60 years later the Waring blender remainsthe standard for the field. With this stainless-steel, black barblender, the company has captured perfectly the sleek, modern look ofits first models. The perfect cocktail party appliance, it doesn't justlook good but has a strong, efficient (though slightly noisy) motorthat zips through ice and frozen strawberries. The metal keeps drinkscold longer, too. The blade is nondetachable, so you never need toworry about the seal deteriorating. The stainless-steel container isalso perfect for a classic diner-style milkshake. --Maria Dolan

Editor's Choice:Waring's professional bar blender only has twospeeds, high and low, and it doesn't need any more, which is why it'sour choice for best blender over $100. This 350-watt blender is reallyfor professional bartenders, but it's also a dream for the home userthat plans on blending often, or on blending a lot of ice or frozendrinks. 5-0 out of 5 stars Second to None
I've had this blender for over a year now, and wow! It's the best, period. It blends anything; no matter how frozen. It has also proven it self to be the most durable blender I've ever owned.I am a bodybuilder, so I use it to blend protein shakes 2-3 times a day.

Like people have said...it is very load. However, that's not an issue to me.Also, it's easier to clean rigth away.Simply fill with some water, add a drop of soap, blend, rise, and you're done.

3-0 out of 5 stars A top name in blenders, but has some flaws
With Waring on the product you know you're buying quality. This is a well built blender with a motor that feels like it could start your car.It is easy to clean and will crush/blend/pulverize anything you throw at it.
The downside, you cant see what you blending or how well mixed it is.The metal carafe is very durable, but I wish it had a pyrex or glass one instead.
The lack of more speed settings is also a bit irksome... but pulsing can obtain the same results.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too small
This is a handsome product and is undoubtedly a good blender, but it should be noted that it is considerably smaller than most blenders. It is described as having a 32 oz container, but it will only blend 24 oz, about half of a standard KitchenAid. A more accurate representation of its functional capacity would have kept me from mistakenly ordering it. ... Read more

When set on low for all-day simmering, this cooker from the makers of the original Crock Pot slowly tenderizes meat, turning even budget cuts into juicy meals. A modest 3-1/2-quart size, the oval-shaped crock holds enough chicken, beef, stew or soup for two to three people. The temperature knob has three settings: off, low, and high. The crock, which lifts from the base for cleaning, features a rinse-clean, lifetime stick-resistant coating. As long as extreme changes in temperature are avoided, such as placing in cold water when hot, the crock should give years of service. Both the crock and lid are dishwasher-safe. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Slow Cooker
Just what I was looking for. Perfect size for side dish for pot luck, or dinner for a family. I love the clean look.

3-0 out of 5 stars Rival Crockpot 3 1/2 qt.
One of the reviews described this crockpot as cool to the touch.Even on low there is a spot that is hot.On high the entire outside is too hot to keep a hand on it.A bad feature that makes me uncomfortable leaving it untended all day.

Aside from that (which is a major consideration) I love the way it cooks, the design is attractive, and the size is very convenient.

Also, I have not been able to find out what is meant by the "auto-protect safety system"

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for singles, too!
I'm single and live by myself, and I have found that this Crock Pot is an excellent way to have a really nice meal waiting for me when I get home from work. I can make enough to last a few meals, but the Crock Pot works great even with a smaller amount of food -- you just want to make sure you've got plenty of liquid in there. I use my Crock Pot all the time, and it has worked perfectly from the moment I took it out of the box. It is also quite easy to clean; even if you forget to clean it right away, a bit of a soak with hot soapy water does the trick. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Silpat
These mats are nice, but they don't work as well as Silpat. They are just as non-stick, but they will stain more than Silpat do --- mine has brown stains where cookies once burnt, whereas my Silpat doesn't.And Silpat isn't even that much more expensive if you use froogle or look at their website for wholesalers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just wish there were more sizes!
This is a great tool - really reduces cleaning time and the agony of cookies or other items that could stick to the pan.I've have no problems using it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wow, where did I go wrong???
I used the Matfer sheet for a pizza crust but didn't have it more than 5 minutes in the approx. 400 degree oven before a horrible smell filled the apartment and the smoke alarms began shrieking. This was a brand new sheet, so there was no residual grease on this matt, as one suggested to another experiencing this problem.

A few others with the problem also seem to be in an apartment, so perhaps the smell is better tolerated or not as noticeable in a larger house?Or did a bunch of us get defective sheets?Until I'd find out, I couldn't recommend this product. ... Read more

I used to dread making batters until these whisks. They are sturdy and the three sizes give flexibility: I love using the small one for eggs. A snap to clean. Only wish the handle could have a better grip like Oxo's rubber grip. But 3 whisks for this price is excellent value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great and inexpensive
This is a great set for a great price. They're basic and sturdy. The handles are lightweight, hollow, and SEALED, so no more shaking water out of the inside. They won't break, melt, or bend. They're easy to clean, by hand or dishwasher.Good sizes- the little one is great for small jobs, and the other two are great for everything else.I love 'em.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value!
There's not much one can say about something as basic as these whisks. When I was in the market for a new set of whisks, I was looking for round handles and (preferably) metal construction. Most of what I found was REALLY expensive.I gambled and purchased these several months ago (after all how bad can they be for this price?).

I have been pleasantly surprised at how much I like these whisks! They are light, strong, and comfortable in my hand.I am sure I might like the expensive ones better, but these are the better value.

Lodge 5-Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven with Iron Lid

Editorial Review

There are certain dishes that absolutely require cast-iron cookware, and others that just simply taste better when made with it. Sampling a hearty spoonful of authentic jambalaya right out this Dutch oven will make this point completely clear. Fancy alloys and coatings on other types of cookware are simply trying to emulate the innate qualities of properly seasoned cast iron: heat retention, even heat distribution, and a scratchproof nonstick surface that will never warp. Since 1896, Lodge has been steadily producing the world's most extensive selection of professional cast-iron cookware, lovingly poured one piece at a time. Cared for properly, which means never even thinking of putting them in the dishwasher, these products will last for generations. --Dominic Johnson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It is great
I bought this as a gold box special.I have a skillet as well, but do not use it very much.So far I have made hungarian goulash and weight watchers turkey chili in it and both have come out excellent.

My skillet was preseasoned, so this was my first go at seasoning.I learned that it is smoky and stinky, so don't do it right before having guests.:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Bye-Bye Teflon and Hello Lodge Cast Iron
Kiss that Teflon coated cookware good bye.Get yourself a Lodge cast iron Dutch oven for the kitchen and tell me this isn't the best cookware you have ever owned.

I have been using my 5 quart Dutch oven for about two years now and despite it's weight, my food turns out better, tastier and clean-up is a breeze. In addition, cast iron can last a lifetime unlike Teflon coated pots and pans which can and will flake and apparently if in your food, it is unhealthy.

This pot has been used on electrical and gas stoves and with almost identical results. The pot does not require special heat coils or other "technology" to evenly distribute heat, it's built in its structure, it's cast iron.In addition, it can easily go from stovetop to oven for casseroles and other such items. One or two less items to clean at the end of the meal.

I highly recommend cast iron and as time goes on all my Teflon pots and pans will be completely replaced by cast iron.

Sometimes old becomes new again and I foresee that people will look more towards cast iron as their everyday cookware that is relatively inexpensive compared to "professional" cookware currently on the market. You really can't beat something that will outlast even you if you give it tender loving care.

5-0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS FABULOUS FABULOUS
I own three pieces of cast iron cookware, and this item is one of them... and among my favorite cooking implements, period.Cast iron is not a quickie-cooking component (it takes time for the iron to heat, and it takes experience to gauge the iron's "perfect temperature" for sensitive dishes), but for dishes requiring steady, even heat and for cooks who require durable cookware with easy clean-up, cast iron CANNOT be beat!

This pot is going to last forever. Its care is easy: I scrub it with hot water only, and dry it with an old rag and apply a thin layer of vegetable oil while the iron is still hot... a year and a half later, it's still rust-free and delivering the reliable service I have come to expect and admire. No scratches interfere with its performance, as is the case with my allegedly-long-lasting Wearever nonstick cookware set (what a waste of money THAT was!).Heck, I even use my cast-iron skillet for CREPES, and that's saying something!Despite the pan's weight, it's an immeasurably better nonstick crepe-cooker than teflon. In fact, I use my cast iron cookware for everything from french fries to spaghetti sauce to eggs and bacon to french toast! It's a dependable griddle, skillet, grill, and pot, and it goes right from the stovetop and into the oven for maximum versatility.

I am an avid home-chef, and I can say without exception that my cast-iron cookware is the best kitchen investment I've ever made. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Pan Hands Down!
I just got this pan a few days ago, after reading the reviews, which are all true, and I love it! I too bought nonstick pans because I hated the clean up and didn't like things to stick. This pan is very easy to clean and food doesn't stick to it at all, as long as you take care of it properly. I got so tired of buying nonstick pans because even though they have those long warranties, they alway seem to eventually stick, and then be thrown away.. I hate to just keep spending money over and over for new cookware. Now I won't have to. I just made breakfast in this pan, and made the best bacon gravy ever! I never thought a pan could make things taste better until I cooked in this and I swear, you can taste the difference- things have a more intense flavor. If I want to use metal utensils no worries.. this pan is a little bigger than I thought as well.. There are no cons about this pan that I can honestly think about, other than it is heavier than your average skillet, but not too bad. Buy you a couple of pans and get free shipping- now that's a win-win situation!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good seasoning, but won't hurt to do it again, a keeper
The skillet is well seasoned. Fried eggs didn't stick on the new skillet. I did spray canola oil and heated it on the burner for 15 min, and then sprayed again and put in oven at 450F for 1 hr. It is now a very deep black, with some parts of it real smooth, and now nothing sticks. Looks like it's been used for years. This is a great item.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite skillet
I always thought cast iron was a lot of work to clean and season. I also never thought of it as non stick. My husband bought me this skillet and now I use it all of the time.It is virtually non stick and easy to clean.I highly recommend it for either an occaisional breakfast cook or a hard core gourmet.Alton Brown says if you are going to have just one skillet, this is it.He is right. ... - After about 4 large cloves, the 'garlic paper' sticks to the inside.(You can shake it out and keep going.)
- Not as sexy as slapping a big chef's knife
- Single-purpose gadget
