KitchenAid KSM150PSBU Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Cobalt Blue by KitchenAid Average Customer Review: Kitchen list price: $289.99 -- our price: $249.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review KitchenAid's Artisan stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 325 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough. This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solidly constructed and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist. This model also includes a pouring shield for guiding ingredients to their proper destination, and the bowl itself locks tight to the base. Standing about 15 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged--you'll want to show it off. --Betsy Danheim From the Manufacturer The 5-quart polished stainless steel bowl with ergonomic handle is big enough to handle large batches of heavy mixtures. Its ergonomically designed handle is contoured to fit the hand and makes lifting the bowl more comfortable. Unique Mixing Action The beater spins clockwise as the shaft spins counter clockwise; moving the beater to 67 different points around the bowl. This unique mixing action creates a thorough blend of ingredients and eliminates the need to rotate the bowl.
Multiple Speeds 10 speeds allow the user to select the right speed for the mixing job; from very high to very slow stir. It's easy to select the precise speed needed for a perfect mix. Versatile Accessories The flat beater, dough hook, and the professional wire whip add to the versatility of the mixer. The flat beater is the ideal accessory for mixing normal to heavy batters. From cake mixes to firm cookie dough, the flat beater mixes quickly and thoroughly. The dough hook mixes and kneads yeast dough, saving both time and the effort of hand-kneading. The wire whip incorporates the maximum amount of air in whipped mixtures for fluffier whipped cream and angel food cakes. All attachments are solidly constructed, and attach easily to the stand mixer.
Easy Clean Up The pouring shield fits around the top of the bowl and prevents ingredient splash-out. The chute makes it convenient and easy to add ingredients. The tilt-back mixer head allows for easy access to bowl and beaters. A lock lever holds the mixer head securely in place and the bowl fastens tightly to the base. Optional attachments (sold separately) complete the package to make cooking a pleasure. From citrus juicer to sausage stuffer, KitchenAid stand mixers can handle just about any job in the kitchen. ... Read more Features Reviews (171)

My only critique of the pan is that it is a bit too tall relative to other two quart saucepans, and not as big in diameter as I would like, as it won't cover even the smallest burner on an electric range. That is the main reason that I gave it four stars instead of five, but I also deducted a bit for appearance: the pan is homely. I am not looking for a major style statement in my cookware, but rivals like Cuisinart have similarly priced high quality cookware that is considerably more stylish and less dowdy. Recommended overall: will give years of good service if treated with even a modicum of care, which, in the end, is what I really want from a saucepan.

Farberware Classic 8-Quart Stockpot with Lid by Farberware Average Customer Review: Kitchen list price: $88.00 -- our price: $34.99 (price subject to change: see help) US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Many people think of stockpots as the no-talent workhorses of the kitchen--as long as they handle big jobs, conventional wisdom goes, they don't need the conductive qualities of smaller saucepans. That thinking goes out the window, however, when you cook soups, stews, pastas, or chili in a quality stockpot like this Farberware Classic 8-quart product. Like any other cookware item in your kitchen, the better the construction and heat distribution, the more flavorful your food will taste. This Farberware Classic stockpot features a thick, durable body made of 18/10 stainless steel with an aluminum core. As with all Farberware Classic cookware, the core spreads heat evenly across the bottom and sides, conserving energy while uniformly cooking your food. The pot comes with a lid that fits tightly over the top, preserving the flavors inside. Due to the stainless-steel construction, the pot is easy to clean and is corrosion-resistant. In addition, the pot's thick rolled rims means users can pour from the sides without fear of the soup or stew dripping onto the floor or their shirts. The pot features stay-cool phenolic handles that are oven-safe to 350 degrees F. To top it off, the stockpot is dishwasher-safe and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. --Rivers Janssen ... Lodge 5-Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven with Iron Lid by Lodge Logic Average Customer Review: Kitchen list price: $25.00 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review There are certain dishes that absolutely require cast-iron cookware, and others that just simply taste better when made with it. Sampling a hearty spoonful of authentic jambalaya right out this Dutch oven will make this point completely clear. Fancy alloys and coatings on other types of cookware are simply trying to emulate the innate qualities of properly seasoned cast iron: heat retention, even heat distribution, and a scratchproof nonstick surface that will never warp. Since 1896, Lodge has been steadily producing the world's most extensive selection of professional cast-iron cookware, lovingly poured one piece at a time. Cared for properly, which means never even thinking of putting them in the dishwasher, these products will last for generations. --Dominic Johnson ... Read more Features Reviews (13)
My skillet was preseasoned, so this was my first go at seasoning.I learned that it is smoky and stinky, so don't do it right before having guests.:)
I have been using my 5 quart Dutch oven for about two years now and despite it's weight, my food turns out better, tastier and clean-up is a breeze. In addition, cast iron can last a lifetime unlike Teflon coated pots and pans which can and will flake and apparently if in your food, it is unhealthy. This pot has been used on electrical and gas stoves and with almost identical results. The pot does not require special heat coils or other "technology" to evenly distribute heat, it's built in its structure, it's cast iron.In addition, it can easily go from stovetop to oven for casseroles and other such items. One or two less items to clean at the end of the meal. I highly recommend cast iron and as time goes on all my Teflon pots and pans will be completely replaced by cast iron. Sometimes old becomes new again and I foresee that people will look more towards cast iron as their everyday cookware that is relatively inexpensive compared to "professional" cookware currently on the market. You really can't beat something that will outlast even you if you give it tender loving care.
This pot is going to last forever. Its care is easy: I scrub it with hot water only, and dry it with an old rag and apply a thin layer of vegetable oil while the iron is still hot... a year and a half later, it's still rust-free and delivering the reliable service I have come to expect and admire. No scratches interfere with its performance, as is the case with my allegedly-long-lasting Wearever nonstick cookware set (what a waste of money THAT was!).Heck, I even use my cast-iron skillet for CREPES, and that's saying something!Despite the pan's weight, it's an immeasurably better nonstick crepe-cooker than teflon. In fact, I use my cast iron cookware for everything from french fries to spaghetti sauce to eggs and bacon to french toast! It's a dependable griddle, skillet, grill, and pot, and it goes right from the stovetop and into the oven for maximum versatility. I am an avid home-chef, and I can say without exception that my cast-iron cookware is the best kitchen investment I've ever made. ... Read more Asin: B00004S9HE |
