    Editorial Review

These powerful 8-inch kitchen shears are Henckels' premier model. They're balanced in the hand for a comfortable grip and are large enough to accommodate even thick fingers. Blades curve inward so the cutting action is smooth and exact. A steel-tooth inset in the handle opens bottle and other screw caps. A plastic cap on the screw securing the blades can be lifted so the shears may be taken apart for resharpening. Hand washing is recommended. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best.
I have had these shears for over 10 years - they have withstood everything.I put them in the dishwasher regularly without any problems. They are as sharp as the day I bought them. I have had other less expensive shears and scissors during the same time - they just don't stand up to the use/abuse that these do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dishwasher safe?
These are wonderful shears. I would never put ANY of my good knives in the dishwasher - including these shears. Handwashing is always recommended for good quality knives because it helps preseve the edge of the blade. (No matter WHAT brand they are!)

1-0 out of 5 stars Dead on Exhumer a big P.O.S.
My husband thought this would be cool as heck to have with the features and finally tracked one down. 5 nails into using it for the first time one claw snapped clean off. Biggest waste of hard earned money ever not to mention costing him down time on the job. Didn't even scratch the paint on the hammer part and its worthless. Thanks a bundle for producing a HUGE P.O.S. product. He's going back to the inexpensive yet reliable Vaughn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth it's weight
I've had this cat's paw in my tool pouch for nearly 2 yrs. There are better pullers for trim nails. The Exhummer does it's job verywell and the saw wench (begins to swoon)... it is the only tool I reach for when I need to change a blade. If you need a good framing paw this is it and If you are always wondering where your cresent wrench is like I am, you can not go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars CONSTRUCTED BOY
BUY TWO.THIS IS THE BEST CATS-PAW I HAVE EVER USED.SMALL AND LIGHT WEIGHT, FOR THOSE HARD TO REACH SPOTS, YET ENOUGH BALLS TO GET THE JOB DONE.ALSO, THE SKIL SAW WRENCH COMES VERY MUCH IN HANDY.
THE ONLY SMALL DOWN SIDE IS THAT THE HEAD TENDS TO MUSHROOM A LITTLE AFTER REPEATED BEATINGS, BUT THAT IS TO BE EXPECTED.

    Editorial Review

Originally invented and marketed in Germany, the Garden Weasel is still an amazing garden tool, even after 15 years of "As Seen on TV" advertising here in the States. Its self-cleaning rotary cutters run crosswise against each other, meeting about 1-1/2 inches below the ground to break the surface soil and creating a fine till with their scissorlike action. Use this tool to break up soil in large areas or wide rows or to scarify soil for seeding. If you remove a few of the blades, you can work on exceptionally narrow rows or around plants. By using the short handle (included), you can work in greenhouses or rock gardens. Clearly, there are many uses for this tool--it's hard to imagine, but after all these years, it's still one of the best cultivators on the market. Ingenious design, versatile applications, and solid construction have kept this tool at the top for decades. --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be called a Garden Wiz
I've had my weasel for a couple of years now and I love it.I have a vegetable garden about 12'X12' and this weasle is a wiz in it.Excellent to use weekly to rid my garden of beginner weeds, if you use it regularly you won't have a problem with weeds.

It also works good to airiate bad spots in your lawn and break up the compacted soil for new grass to grow.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is a useless tool
What a waste of money. It won't cultivate, it won't weed, it won't even mix soft soils together. If you want to break your back scratching the surface of your yard or spend hours untangling the impenetrable foliage tapestry the blades will create, then this is the tool for you.If you actually want to accomplish something, you're better off buying a hoe, a rake, or a sharp, pointy stick.

1-0 out of 5 stars Like most as seen on TV items...
I'm probably going to get blasted with no helpfuls for this review, but I've got to call a spade a spade.Growing up my family's summer project was driving to my grandparents farm and growing about 3 acres of winter squash. We started every saturday at about 6:00 am and worked through the day until 4 or 5 at night. There were 3 hoes around the farm that were fought over and a couple that were ok.My father to try and help out the situation bought one of these garden weasels, which soon became the most fought over tool around... to not have to use it.After everyone had tried it for a few rows (the rows were longer than you are thinking... no raised beds) it got left in the shed every time. After the first day that garden weasel was not used again.Save yourself the cash and buy a real hoe, designed for use in a garden.People have been using hoes for hundreds of years and I don't think much progress has been made in the last 20 years on the designs.Stick to the traditional.Unfortunately as much as I love amazon (see my other reviews) I don't see many options for hoes here. There are a couple of scuffle or stirrup hoes, I have only cursory experience with this kind of hoe and can't say you should buy one.Tierra looks to have a couple of hoes with promise but I shrink a bit at the price. My personal favorites can be found from a company called Prohoe or from Lehmans.Sorry Amazon, one thing you don't have. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Film, Loosely Based on Book
I say loosely because if you are a fan of the book, there are many striking differences. However, while Murray is a more playful version of Larry, most major elements of the book are served up in their original spirit. Many book to film transitions loose the soul of the original work. The Razor's Edge does not. While the timeline, various characters and elements are "adapted" to make the story work in film, the message of the film is the same as the book. For me, the Bill Murray version of the Razor's Edge is a different angle on perhaps my favorite book. If you know Bill Murray, you will recognize the humor he brings to an otherwise relatively serious role. To the film's credit, it is beautiful to look at, the music is epic and a timeless tale of longing for an understanding of spirituality, purpose and life. Buy it, watch it and read the book, over and over again!

5-0 out of 5 stars A 'nam vet sees many parallels
Did a tour as a FAC with a TACRON (Navy) back in 70/71.I'm now an educational counselor (after a 30 yr Navy career)for the military and have contact with combat vets constantly.Got someone who's been in combat? WATCH THIS MOVIE!I relate to the character and numerous others I've loaned this movie to have come back in tears - but good tears.Bill Murray is the perfect Larry because of the fact that the humorous little boy continues to shine through, THAT'S WHO HE IS, in spite of what he's endured, the experience of watching friends die and knowing human nature in a manner of which only combat veterans and law enforcement people ever experience.Larry stays Larry, he just changes in a manner that only another PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) victim can relate to.It's my opinion that many people miss the depth of the character Larry and see only the exterior of the character.Do you have to act like Budda or Ghandi to seek the meaning of life, the reason for you existence? The whole point of the movie is that Larry is just an average person tossed into circumstances and situations that preclude him from returning to what his existence was "planned out" to be (work in an office/firm, get married, kids, summer home, etc, etc)- life's experiences and fate dictated his new journey - a journey he obviously was forced travel, with truth always just steps further away.

Hey, could go on forever about this movie.Just to say I understand my feelings and thoughts about Vietnam (and other experiences) in a completely different light after watching a man that reminds me of me going through the same emotions.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Razor's Edge

    Editorial Review

Billy Bob Thornton wrote, directed, and starred in this mesmerizing drama with haunting overtones of To Kill a Mockingbird. Thornton plays a mentally retarded man who has spent 20 years in a psychiatric hospital for killing his mother and her lover. Released into the community from which he came, he befriends and protects a lonely boy regularly harassed and abused by his mom's boyfriend (a terrific performance by Dwight Yoakam). The story is ultimately about sacrifice, but Thornton certainly doesn't get twinkly about it. Some of the best material concerns the hero's no-big-deal efforts to integrate into a "normal" life: working, eating fast food, earning admiration for his handyman skills, and attaining a semblance of community among other damaged souls. John Ritter has a great part as a gay shopkeeper who tries to assuage his own loneliness by spilling his guts out to Thornton's uncomprehending character. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AS GOOD AS FAULKNER OR FLANNERY O'CONNOR

Billy Bob Thornton's astonishing, haunting, mesmerizing SLING BLADE DIRECTOR'S CUT (Miramax) arrives in a new edition with almost 15 minutes of additional footage and an amazing commentary track from writer, director, actor Thornton.

A second disc is jammed with highly watchable extras.I was stunned by the nearly feature length "Mr. Thornton Goes to Hollywood" that details the struggles and setbacks in achieveing any kind of recognition in Hollyood and the perserverance (almost unto death) of Thornton.

The expanded material in "Sling Blade" adds some character depth to Karl Childers. He's part Boo Radley, part Frankenstein's monster and part Old Testament avenging angel. There is a profound truth to Thornton's mentally challenged but morally centered Childers that will stay with you forever.

Billy Bob Thornton's character-driven tale is an extraordinary creative riff that is certainly equal to the best of William Faulkner or Flannery O'Connor (Thornton won an Oscar© for his screenplay). This edition of the Southern gothic fable is one for the library.

5-0 out of 5 stars The film speaks for itself
The only thing missing is a presentation of the original 78 minute film "Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade" (1993) which later the feature length film was created from. Can't have it all, I guess.Perhaps when they release the extra-special edition? If you like Bill Bob in this film, you should also check out "Dead Man" (he's in exactly one hilarious scene) and "The Man Who Wasn't There".

4-0 out of 5 stars All Right Then
If you are expecting a slow southern drama about a small-town misfit who is released from an asylum and trying to fit in again, then Sling Blade is a "must see" movie.Released by Miramax in 1996 and wrote, directed and starred by Billy Bob Thornton, this fictional drama is set in Arkansas , where a mildly retarded man named Karl Childers played by Thornton is about to be released after 25 years from an asylum for the criminally insane. This movie has a very slow pace which is in comparison to how Thornton is portraying Karl.Thornton receives an "Academy Award winner for Best Adapted Screen Play and for Best Actor in 1996" in this breath taking performance as Karl Childers.

Karl, played by Thornton, was imprisoned for a youthful act of terrible vengeance. Stumbling upon his mother naked on the floor with one of the towns men on top of her, and believing that she was being raped, he killed the man with a few thrashings of a sling blade. After killing the man and looking at his mother he realized that the man was her lover and Karl, filled with red rage, killed his mother as well. Now 25 years later he returns to the community where he stumbles upon a young boy named Frank Wheatley (Lucas Black) who has lost his father and likes to listen to Karl's rasp voice andhis "all right then" phrases that he makes. With both Karl and Frank feeling like outcast they are drawn together and become good friends, and before long Karl moves in with Frank and his mother, Linda (Natalie Canerday), and finds a job fixing lawnmowers. Not to long after Karl moving in with the Wheatley home, he realized that Linda's boyfriend, Doyle (Dwight Yoakam), abuses both her and Frank.Doyle is always putting Frank down for being different and calls Karl a "humped-over retard", between each of the drinks of beer he swigs down. You also learn about Linda's friend and protector, a gay grocery store manager (John Ritter) whose self appointed goal is to protect the Wheatley family from Doyle's drunken outrages, and to keep his gay life in the closet in this small southern town.

In addition to figures such as Jim Jarmusch showing up in a cameo as a Tastee Cream counter clerk and J.T. Walsh captive role, musicians such as Vic Chesnutt and Ian Moore make appearances as members of Doyle's terrible backyard band. I give this movie 4 stars even though it could be argued that Sling Blade could be taken under the cutting board, but it does not take away from the great performance of the movie which runs approximately 1 hour 34 minutes.
